WWE News: TV in Mexico, Vince is Angry, Jericho vs. Michaels and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.02.2008

- While both TV Azteca and Televisa in Mexico turned down Shane McMahon in negotiations to improve the company's TV situation in Mexico, WWE has signed a deal with the cable channel TVC Deportes. They will air Raw live starting on October 6th. In terms of a US comparison, TVC Deportes is equivalent to ESPN, while Televisa is equivalent to NBC and CBS during their big ratings days combined.

- Vince McMahon was on a rampage at the TV Tapings directly after Summerslam. He was critical of aspects of Raw, and was reportedly in a worse mood the next day. There was one situation where he cussed out Bruce Prichard at Raw, which surprised many people and caused everyone to "walk on egg shells." The TV didn't go as they would have liked from a timing issue and it was said to be overwritten. To make matters even worse the script for Smackdown didn't come until 7pm the night of the show, and the disorganization reminded some people of working with WCW.

- In regards to the debuts of Colt Cabana as Scotty Goldman, Jay Bradley as Ryan Braddock and Shawn Spears as Gavin Spears it all boils down to the fact that the creative team has never been high on any of them. With that being the case they didn't give them any wins in their debuts.

- The Jericho vs. Michaels angle is coming across so differently than the regular WWE angles because Jericho and Michaels are working together on the angle. The creative team does have some input to the angle, but Jericho and Michaels are the ones deciding the direction and coming up with the main ideas.

Interesting that one of the best things on Raw isn't really being worked on by the writers.

As for the new guys not being looked favorably and the writing team downplaying them; well, that's good for business. Let the writers decide not to write. Wrestlers have to take whatever gimmick them get and try to work with it. Well, I don't see why Vince is letting his writer's decided who they see worth writing for.

"Hey writer, this is a new guy we've brought up."

"Don't like him. I'll just give him a generic name and call it a day."

"Well then, YOU'RE FIREDD!!"

Vince is almost pissed off about something, I can't imagine working for the guy.

Dear WWE Writers,

Scotty Goldman truly is gold. Make that his gimmick, let him be hilarious and awesome, and your program will be better for it. Promise.

Sincerely,
Aaron

The Jericho-HBK angle is working because the wrestlers are dealing with it themselves instead of idiot writing/creative. Color me so shocked :)

uh oh freddie prinze, better get your smackdown script in on time!

This idea is gold....
HHH is mad at Jeff Hardy. He lost his title at whatever ppv. So HHH brings up he knows who burnt his home down. At the rematch Matt Hardy comes out and costs him(jeff) the title and tells him it was him cause he is sick of being the second Hardy. He just didn't know jeff would be gone. Blood feud!!! Book that! So much realism. It writes it self. Matt and HHH get muched needed healheat. "I'm out, and it doesn't matter what you lame ass iwc people think. Go download you miley cyrus"

I live in Mexico, and TVC Deportes is nowhere near ESPN. It's a crappy channel.

Never high on any of them? Is that the reason for their names...some kind of punishment?

Actually, it's not. First off, there's no way Vince would ever let Jeff Hardy win the WWE title, let alone from Triple H. The guy is reckless and unreliable. And he would never put the Hardys together in a feud, they are both too over. Vince also stated he's not interested in a Matt-Jeff feud.

Hey,ZHarvest Cafe, they probably would have done your Hardy idea in 2002, or if Vince Russo were still around.

I really think they are missing the boat with Colt Cabana. He should host his own talk show and tick everyone off while having a blast.

Kudos to HBK & Jericho for putting on one of the best storylines in recent history. Give these jobs in "creative" when they retire.

The Michaels-Jericho angle is fucking badass. Hope HBK's doing alright with the injury...

To be down on Colt Cabana is to have a completely clueless about what can make money in wrestling.

lets see all the old talent is either on hiatus or injured therefore...LETS BURY ALL THE NEW GUYS!!!

It's pretty sad when you can't come up with something interesting for Colt Cabana to do. Some "creative" team they have. Oh well, let him go back to ROH!

Colt could read the phone book and I would fall over dead from laughter. If the E can't figure this guy out, then I refuse to refer to them as "wrestling" anymore.

Posted By: kip (Guest)  on September 02, 2008 at 02:28 AM

Is this not sending alarm bells ringing for everyone in the E. The best angle on TV for years is being written by people other than the writers, yet Colt Cabana comes in and they've got nothing for him? Is it just me or is this a massive sign for Vince on the state of the 'creative' team?

Posted By: Guest#2435 (Guest)  on September 02, 2008 at 03:02 AM

No wonder HBK/Jericho is the only thing interesting in the entire WWE.

Does anyone else wonder how this news becomes available at all? Like does someone backstage in WWE just leak every bit of info? I always wondered lol

Creative, if you can't figure out anything to make your shows work then I got two words for you.

DIVA SEARCH!

When I saw "Vince is angry"...I thought of...well, go to YouTube and look up "Angry Vince" (and/or "Opie and Anthony") and find out.

ZHarvest Cafe, I think its curfew. Go home and spare us your fantasy "booking".

So the best angle in recent memory is being handled by the wrestlers and not the so called creative team? What a fucking shocker!! Jeez, do you think it'll sink in with Vince that his writers are absolutely awful at their jobs?
He should be livid they can't come up with ideas for talent, thats their bloody job. If they can't do it, fire their asses and let the agents and talent come up with angles.

Posted By: dennett316 (Guest)  on September 02, 2008 at 06:58 AM

So with the release of Stevie Richards, Nunzio, Shannon More, etc, will Colt and these other guys be our new job squad? You know, it's gotta be a little sad that these guys have reached their dream company, and they are turned into jobbers on their first night and will probably remain that way. Charisma is great, but if the "creative" team doesn't want to do anything with them then there is no hope.
Remember when Cena first debuted? Angle threw out an open invitation and he came out and got a decent reaction. And Cenas charisma got him over, but it was because he was given a chance. If you don't give these guys a chance, you never know who will be the next Cena or Austin or Rock.

If you can't think of something for Colt f'ing Cabana to do, you don't have a creative bone in your body. What a bunch of imbeciles.

Posted By: Guest-0 (Guest)  on September 02, 2008 at 12:02 PM

The "creative" team (for lack of a better word) should let the wrestlers be themselves and it will work out just fine. If you make every wrestler wrestle the same ol' same ol' "seen that before" WWE style, it doesn't allow the new wreslters to play off their strengths and stand out from the crowd and get over. We want to see various styles of wrestling, not the same same same same same style from every wrestler. Get a clue, Vince.

zharvast..
that would be a terrible storyline that would prevent Matt from ever successfully turning face again.

Bring "Good Times,Great Memories" to Smackdown! And for Colt's sake ....BRING CABANA BACK!!!!

Posted By: greggagnesucks (Guest)  on September 02, 2008 at 03:22 PM

Agree with what you guys are saying about the writers, I've said for years Stephanie and Brian Gerwitz (sp?) are at the root of alot of WWE's problems because Steph. can't book and Gerwitz is a "yes man". The Jericho/ HBK feud is the only reason to watch RAW these days, much like when Foley would make a return and book some awesome stuff (vs Orton, Edge, Flair etc.) the wrestlers know how their characters should be utilized and giving them more creative freedom would lead to an improved product.

As for the Scotty Goldman thing, just let him be himself, let him act & wrestle as Colt, let him be the wacky, funny guy who's an awesome wrestler, let him do "Good Times, Great memories" (It'd be much better than most of the backstage skits they do) and he would easily get over to a solid US Title level.

I guess when Vince bought WCw he didnt know that he also purchased the curse of WCW.

Mexico does not want the WWE and considering what they usually air as wrestling opposed to WWE, I'm hardly surprised.

If Vince is that pissed off here's an idea: FIRE THE WRITERS WHO HAVE BEEN THERE FOR 15 YEARS AND CONTRIBUTED NOTHING THE LAST 8. Fire the sycophants and the ass kissers only having a job because they smooch his buttcheeks. Vince should be angry because his product sucks, now maybe he will DO something about it.

Creative Team = not wished well on their future endeavours by me. Although I do hope that they get a good earful of Copa Cabana on the way out to remind them why they aren't employed any longer.

Jericho and HBK working together and putting on the #1 angle in the WWE? Ok, now here's the thing: Vince, make them write everything else on the shows and you're all set! Oh, and give them both at least a 200% salary bonus.

For the love of god will someone PLEASE give us some original ideas!

Vince is angry, and we REALLY suck at our jobs, so we're getting a bit nervous. :(
