Jim Ross Speaks On Mick Foley, Lesnar/Couture, Unforgiven, More

New blog from JR....
Jim Ross has a new blog entry up. Highlights are below.
On Mick Foley: The speculation regarding Mick Foley allowing his contract to lapse with the WWE and knowing at least a portion of Mick's future plans has finally ended. Obviously, Mick cannot and will not be a full time wrestler for any organization but one can easily see Mick wrestling sporadically meaning once or twice a year if everyone involved in this scenario is of sound mind. Mick has many diverse, creative interests and my sense is that he is looking to explore TV opportunities that might come his way. Many of us have said for years that Mick would be great in a TV sitcom. Plus Mick has many more books left to write. No matter what Mick does I wish him only the best. It will be interesting to see how Mick is utilized and one can bet a slab of ribs that subject will be under the proverbial microscope by many within the business and more specifically the 'rasslin media. In the short time I had broadcasting with Mrs. Foley's baby boy, Mick became one of my favorite partners. If the opportunity had presented itself, I feel strongly that we would have really jelled. Be that as it may, I have nothing but respect for Mick wanting to explore other options and forms of entertainment with the Braverman-Bloom Agency who will look after Mick's interests well. As I see it, and remember this is merely one man's opinion, it would appear that Mick did not burn any bridges with the WWE and a return engagement with the WWE isn't beyond the realm of possibilities for Mick Foley in the future. No one in their right mind can argue that Mick Foley isn't WWE Hall of Fame worthy at some point in the future.
On Lesnar/Couture: It will be interesting to see what the betting line will be on the upcoming, November UFC fight between Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture. Scheduled for 5 five minute rounds, this might give Couture the slight edge but this one is really a pick 'em or so it would seem. Some say that the longer the fight goes the more it favors Couture who is 45 years of age, over a decade Lesnar's senior, and will give up some 50+ pounds come fight time to Brock. Couture's wife mentioned that she felt sorry for Lesnar having only 3 MMA fights under his belt while her husband had a huge experience advantage. Certainly Mrs. Couture has the right to her opinion and she is absolutely correct regarding the experience edge her husband holds over Lesnar but it might not be wise to start adding more fuel to the fire of this fight that might become the most talked about in MMA history going into it. Couture has never fought a big man with Lesnar's combined quickness and strength. This only adds to the hype for this bout that I will not miss on PPV IF I don't make it to Vegas to see it live.
On Presidential Politics: What in the hell does Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin's family have to do with her intellect and ability to make a good V.P.? Does the color of Obama's skin or the fact that he was called another name (Barry) at one time in his life mean any thing when it comes to being President of the United States? Does John McCain's age eliminate him from being American's Chief Executive Officer? Hell no. Of course not on ALL these questions. However, the news media who is largely NOT unbiased (fair and balanced my ass the lot of them) love to pick the bones of these candidates. I do not like today's politics or professional politicians. This country needs to initiate some tough changes to benefit ALL the people and not just for SOME of the people.
On Unforgiven: Something tells me that Sunday's Unforgiven which has sort of flown under the radar with only a 3 week build on TV including a pre-emption for Raw and the Labor Day holiday to contend with will have some shocking moments and major surprises come Sunday. These types of PPV's usually out deliver what is expected of them as often times expectations by the fans are not that lofty for these short turnaround events. I am intrigued to see the "Scramble" bouts and even more stoked to see Shawn Michaels, with one healthy arm, fight, not wrestle, Chris Jericho. Even though HBK is injured this bout will take place and to whoever has to follow it all I can say is good luck.
for wwe's sake and from a fan's point of view i really hope that hbk will still be able to put on a good performance with y2j

TNA is slowly but surely starting to resemble WCW. I'd say that by the year 2010, TNA will be a MAJOR force in the wrestling world.

Mick Foley is being sent to TNA to ruin it, at the nice $$$ request $$$ of Vince. Look for Foley's partner in crime to leave WWE soon too.

what it has to do with anything JR is that she is a hard hard right pro lifer (if you get raped or a uncle molest you she would not allow you to get an abortion, even if the pregnancy would result in the mothers death.) that runs on good clean family morals. She has an unwed teenage daughter that just turned 17 and is five months pregnant. Something about glass houses and rocks, I forget how it goes.
If Madam Dixie is smart, she'll fire Don West (or at least keep him just doing spin cycle or whatever that piece of crap web show is) and bring in Foley to the announce booth. I truly believe that Foley could reign Tenay in to be what he was for WCW, a straight play by play man that knew every lock, driver, slam in the book. Foley's calm delivery in the booth, could make TNA watchable. Too all those that thing Mick is losing his legacy or is a traitor or whatever, shove it. If it weren't for Foley, a lot of guys would have never gotten over. He took a lot of beatings to help guys get over (Edge, HHH, NAO, etc.) If you ever read any of his books the one line that gets repeated over and over is "They would come to me and say hey see if you can help get this guy over." that's his legacy and thats what he'll do in TNA that Sting never has ever done for anyone in TNA, get them over. At least 3D came in and helped get LAX over, after that nothing else, MCMG pretty much got BERRIED thanks to 3D, but at least LAX got the rub. I can already see Foley help get numerous guys over on the mic and in the ring. Hopefully they wont renew Sting's contract and they'll give Foley the 600K thats wasted on a washed up has been that wouldn't have gotten over if not for the likes of Ric Flair lending his name and skill to put him over.

does this fuckin guy ever get sour about ANYTHING? Dude always has/finds something good to say about every topic he discusses. But good for him, wish i had the ability to never get angrily hyped up and be perpetually optimistic.

Never angry and always optimistic?
That IS the polar opposite of most internet commenters.
Maybe he just reserves his more passionate emotions for things more important than wrestling.

Can't wait to see Lesnar get his ass kicked.

I totally agree, what a bunch of pesimistic jackoffs that leave comments all over these pages. 90% of the comments are left by a bunch of smart marks, get a fucking life, it's just wrestling!

What TNA need to do is fire Russo, give the book to Cornette and bring in JR for commentary and Talent Development. McMahonagement have been running him down long enough - capturing the voice of WWE and putting him on their programming with no restrictions on his natural commentating style with Foley doing cover and Tenay providing stats would raise TNA's profile AND help make genuine stars.
He was in charge of Talent Development at the 'E during its most fruitful period helping to bring through genuine main eventers like Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Dave Bautista and Adam Copeland as well as countless others like Jay Reso. He campaigned for quality workers like Chris Jericho to be poached and deserves far more respect from Vince McMahon for what he's done than the constant sh*t sandwich that he's forced to eat.
Screw em Jim, so what's right for you for a change and head over to TNA. Stick it to him were it hurts most - the wallet.
Rant Over.
