Notes from Mick Foley’s Appearance on Opie and Anthony
Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.05.2008

- Mick Foley called into the Opie and Anthony show today and discussed a few things. He confirmed leaving WWE over being upset due to Vince McMahon yelling at him over the headset. JBL had told Foley that it wouldn't get any easier. Apparently Foley was told that Vince was being nicer to him than most. The breaking point was Vince yelling at him during Edge and Vickie's wedding.

- He did mention signing with TNA, but gave no starting date. Opie and Anthony said that no one watches TNA.

- Foley said he would be at the Long Island TNA show, likely just visiting and not appearing before the crowd.

- With Foley leaving WWE, he said that he has been pulled from the WrestleMania legends game.

Hopefully they leave all the code for Foley in the game. Easy enough to pull from if if they do.

No one watches TNA huh? Howbout a third of Raw's audience. Not too shabby I'd say for a company that has been in existance for five years.

Opie and Anthony are dumbasses. After O&A started talking shit about Stern and Bubba, Bubba challenged the two bitches to a fight, any two of Bubba's crew vs any two of the O&A crew... they talk shit and then won't back it up.

I love Mick, but quitting your job because you got yelled at is pretty lame. Now if Vince insulted Mick by cussing him out or making comments about his family, then I could see leaving. Did Mick think that, due to his history with the company,
things would be different for him compared to the other annoucers? Or maybe Mick feels like he doesn't need improvement. All I know is, if I quit my job everytime I got yelled at, I would jump ship every 2 weeks. I love you Mick, but I can't help but feel like you took your ball and went home. Honestly, good luck in TNA. I hope your body holds up against Abyss in the various gimmick matches that are sure to come.

"Opie and Anthony said that no one watches TNA."

Meaning that, shockingly as it might sound, they DO know something about pro-wrestling.

Opie and Anthony preaching the truth...

Too bad about Mick FOley being taken out of the WrestleMania Legends game...but those are the breaks when you want to resume to career in the minor leagues or indy feds I guess...

why did't Mick just tell Vince to get in the ring if you want to yell at me. A little barb wire should do the trick.

Pulled from the legends game?? Thats Stupid as ever . Now who am I going to throw of the hell in the cell. HUH???

So no Foley in game...can almost guarantee no Savage or Warrior. :P Great game this is shaping up to be.

Y'know...not for nothing...and I'm a Foley mark...but he can get incredibly bitchy at times. I know he's the Hardcore Legend and all, but if he can't take getting yelled at by the boss he should probably go back to writing kids books. Sad to see him lower his standards to TNA. Yeah...that'll put butts in the seats.

Wow Mick, WAH WAH WAH.

And, to save everyone some time, here is the rest of the comment thread on this article:

Both WWE and Foley are being very childish.

I like Vince McMahon, but I do not think there is a more wealthy man who is as childish as him. His pettiness and grudge-holding has ruined the wrestler/WWE relationship of too many big name stars.

Dear Mick Foley,

Waaa waaa waaa. Bosses yell at employees. Get over it. Don't take it personally. He would be yelling at anyone else in your place. You were a good commentatot alongside Jim Ross and you brought something different to the broadcast team. Instead of staying with WWE and making a lot of money, dinero, bread, moolah, $$$$$, cabbage, you opted to go to TNA, a lousy promotiom, and make a lot less money. I would think that the money you were making at WWE would be worth it even if Vince McMahon did yell at you. Cry us a river, then build and bridge and get over it.

That would be great.

Mmmkay?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Your friend,

Chico

P.S.

Mick,, being emails buddies with Melina or whoever you were claiming to be emails buddies with makes you sound like a nerdy 6th-grader. You're married. She's dating Batista. You've got no status emailing any of the divas or anyone who's not your wife or kids. Remember that.

Sincerely,

Your friend,

Chico

Dude it's fucking radio, not gang wars. Everyone is tough on radio and talks shit. Does not mean they have to back it up by fighting. I am a Howard and Bubba fan and never have listened to O&A, but seriously. How many times has Howard ran his mouth about someone and do you honestly think he'd ever throw down if someone confronted him?

Who wants to get yelled at the whole time they're doing their job?

Foley is a legend, with plenty of money, and has other options than getting yelled at by Vince McMahon.

Posted By: Makes Sense (Guest)  on September 05, 2008 at 04:33 PM

I think you guys are missing the point with Foley v. Vince. Vince is notorious for yelling at the announcers pretty much non-stop _during_ the shows, when they are trying to (a) call the matches and (b) listen for cues from the technical show production team. The way I understand this, it was not like "getting yelled at by your boss" - it was more like "having your boss stand directly over top of you and yell criticism and 'helpful suggestions' non-stop while you did your actual work, all day, every day." We've all been yelled at in the workplace by our bosses - but the two situations are in no way shape or form comparable. Who would put up with the latter if they had other options?
Now, since Vince's behavior was no secret, you can probably criticize Foley for naively taking the job in the first place -- but I don't see this as a simple case of petulance on Foley's part.

WTF are you guys talking about how no one watches TNA? Describe no one. Obviously they are doing well enough to be able to sign a huge star like Foley.

Posted By: D-Steak (Guest)  on September 05, 2008 at 04:47 PM

Getting yelled at is one thing, but getting yelled at every time you go to work is another. Mick's saved his money, so why put up with the stress?

wow... you people take this stuff waaaaay too seriously. mick foley is a grown man and has every right to do whatever he wants without so much as a wink to you petulant little fools. get over yourselves.

Please tell me the yelling stories were a cue for Anthony to start acting like Angry Vince...

Posted By: James (Guest)  on September 05, 2008 at 05:58 PM

Mick Foley basically doesn't have to work at all since he is well off from a successful wrestling career. He's already established a great legacy in wrestling, has several best selling books, and really doesn't much left to proove in the wrestling industry. So, if I didn't have to get yelled at while I am trying to do commentary, I wouldn't. I've taken shit from many bosses, and I would quit if I could, but I gotta think about the bills. However, Foley can help benefit TNA much more than he can benefit WWE at this point.

from the penthouse to the outhouse! Bang Bang!

Posted By: tyronewashington (Guest)  on September 05, 2008 at 06:38 PM

The guys who have left WWE for TNA are doing it for two reasons. 1)they're in a good enough position to where they no longer need to put up with Vince's crap or 2) they want to be the ones who help a fledgling company get worldwide recognition.

Yes, the WWE is a billion dollar industry and Vince can do what he wants, however that doesn't mean these vets have to put up with it. These guys are professionals and probably feel they would never get the opportunity to headline a WWE PPV for a number of reasons.

Also, i'm sure that Angle, Booker, Cage, and Foley have saved up enough money to the point where they don't need the drama that working for Vince creates. Can't blame them for doing what they feel is best.

It's a shame WWE fans are so blind they'll never accept reality, that the money and bright lights aren't all what it's cracked up to be.

Yeah I like Mick too, I've met him three times and his father and I live a few towns over from where he grew up on Long island but he's being immature with this situation. Vince obvisouly can be a jerk, but quitting WWE because he's yelling at you over the headset is stupid, which is a shame because he and JR made a great team. I wish him luck in TNA but I think Mick's run is just about over no matter what company he is in.

WWE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO REMOVE FOLEY FROM WWE GAMES BECAUSE THEY WON'T HAVE TO PAY HIM ROYALTY MONEY IF HE IS NOT IN THE GAMES.

FOLEY IS A TRAITOR. HE WENT TO TNA IN ORDER TO STICK IT TO WWE.

WWE DOES NOT WANT COMPETITION WHICH IS WHY THEY BOUGHT OUT WCW IN 2001.

HOPEFULLY WWE WILL BLACKLIST HIM FROM THE WWE HALL OF FAME ALONG WITH KURT ANGLE, SAVAGE, WARRIOR, BOOKER T ETC.

You know you two assholes amongst others sit at your fucking pc and bitch about foley's decision. Let the man live his life the way he wants to. If he wants to go to TNA let him. If he wants to retire let him, if he wants to fucking kill himself let him. He makes tons more money than you assholes sitting in your momma's basement watching free porn anyways.

JSpence is the person who talked the most sense here. Most of the rest of you sound stupid. Foley COULDN'T do his job because Vince was on his headset at nearly all times. He couldn't come back wrestling full time. So since he couldn't be an announcer or a wrestler and his only option left was essentially to show up every few months and pretend he mattered, he prefered to go somewhere where he could liven things up and hopefully do some good for the wrestling business as a whole as opposed to simply the WWE. Great! So why is everyone bitching?

Posted By: Ash (Guest)  on September 05, 2008 at 08:33 PM

Well, Foley can quit for whatever damn reason he wants to quit. Hell, maybe he's just saying that Vince yelling at him was the catalyst when it could be any number of things. It only matters how long he uses hurt feelings to put himself over. (See: Hart, Bret)

SpikeTV subsidizing Foley could be part of a larger deal between he and the network. So stopping off at TNA before hosting some retooled 'Robot Wars' is indeed a quaint, 'Have a nice day!'

So what if Foley isn't in the 'Legends' game. He doesn't have such a unique look or moveset that he couldn't be replicated as a CAW. Now you can add your own music, so short of an entrance video and introduction, Foley lives!

I'd rather see Mick doing political analysis than let Vince change his schtick into another blathering puppet behind the announcer's table.

It's amusing to see keyboard jockeys call Foley a crybaby... I'd sure like to see them go through what Foley did in the ring.

D-Streak PLEASE!!!!

for a company thats been around for THAT long, it should have a much larger audience than what it currently has.

But just like WWE, it has flaws but they arent a TRUE established company. They make ALOT more mistakes than WWE does.

TNA in my eyes, and until its proven wrong to me, is a GLORIFIED indy fed with a TV deal.
