Notes From Kurt Angle’s Appearance on Off The Record
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 09.12.2008

  • Kurt Angle made an appearance on Off The Record in Canada tonight. Here are some of the highlights:

    ON THE BUSINESS PROTECTING TALENT:
It's trying to now, he's wrestling less but even in TNA the schedule is growing. It won't stop as long as people want to see them and are willing to pay for it. Wellness is a step in the right direction but it won't fix the root cause.

    ON PAINKILLERS:
You sign a contract and it says exactly what you have to do. Most wrestlers are too scared to say there are too many dates in a month. He went to Vince and said 22 days a month was too much and he needed to go part-time. Vince said they needed him full-time. Kurt said he would have to quit. He says your health is most important and if you can't fulfill a certain schedule, don't sign the contract.

    ON WRESTLING LEARNING FROM BENOIT:
In the long run, wrestlers wrestle year-round because the money is good. Nobody has died recently, so Wellness might be helping. He says it's down to Vince and Dixie to start telling guys to take time off, because the wrestler's themselves aren't going to do it. He also admitted that he was the guy who was on death watch before leaving WWE.A lot of WWE talent were asking Vince to keep an eye on him because they thought he would be next.

    OTHER:
    He's a Republican.

He mentioned outrageous parties in the Olympic village.

Read Bret's book but not Chris Jericho's, and he didn't know who Tito Santana was. He seemed to be a bit slurred by this point.

He was treated well in WWE, and said Vince knows what he's doing, which is both a blessing and a curse. He doesn't think any sport has a good drug policy right now. He picked Lesnar over Couture, and set next year as his MMA debut date. He also told a story about Big Show knocking someone out on a plane by punching the back of his chair.

It's, like, half crazy Kurt and half sane Kurt.

Also, it is interesting to know that he was the guy on Death Watch. Even though everyone had already 'knew' that he was the one.

"...set next year as his MMA debut date"

He also announced that he will be Hulk Hogan's running mate in the 2012 presidental elections...

Seemed slurred, didn't know who Tito Santana was and says he'll have an MMA fight next year. Surely those facts are enough to fail a wellness test. The man has problems and a neck attached to his body by wood clue and string.

Republican? EWWW! He probably got his broken freakin neck from giving blow jobs under bathroom stalls in Minnesota airports.

Kurt Angle is not a lazy bastard that expects free stuff to be handed to him thats why he's a Republican.

Talks out of his ass? Check.
    Addicted to pain medication? Check.
    Lies about his intentions? Check.

Yeah, I'm not at all surprised that he's a republican.

"parties in the olympic village...did everyone gang-bang the gymnists or something?"

Well, in 96 te USA team had some hotties. It turned out that most of them were lil freaks, not the good wholesome girls they claimed to be. I was a teenager at that time and would've given my left nut to have banged that short Dominique chick. Too bad she got fat and strung out later.

let's not crucify him for not knowing who Chico Santana was.

the only decent thing he had going for him was he was decent in the ring and provided fodder for Jessie Ventura. he isn't Ricky Steamboat or anything like that, he's the fucking Matador.

The reason he is Republican is because he is so competitive and obsessed with success.

its funny when people cling to a group or a political party, it just shows exactly how much they know about politics... lol.. Seeing as how you vote really counts huh ? lol ahh shit...
    START A REVOLUTION AMERICA.

"It's, like, half crazy Kurt and half sane Kurt."

-Agreed. This is an improvement from a year ago or so.

Also, to everyone frustrated or glad he's a Republican or whatever...so what? That's his personal business. It may have come up during the discussion or something, but eh, whatever. It's his personal business and your groaning or lauding really contributes nothing to the topic. I say leave it alone as it's up to him to choose what he believes in.

Ok how can you be a pro wrestler and NOT know who Tito Santana is? I could understand maybe a young fan not knowing, but come on, Kurt Angle??

Posted By: WTF??!! (Guest)  on September 13, 2008 at 09:50 AM

If there is one thing we know about Kurt, it is that his health comes first. I mean when he won his Olympic medal, the health of his broken neck came first. Then every other time he hurt his neck, he stopped wretling right away. I will admit I do not frequently watch TNA, but from what I have read about him there, he only wresltes when he is healthy.

You gotta love a guy with principles. Brain damage be damned!

Because, God forbid, someone be a Republican.

HOW DARE he have a different political view than some people!?!?

Most WWE wrestlers are Republicans. I haven't heard any stats on TNA or other feds. Deal with it. half of the uS population have different opinions than you.

Flair and Angle should run together! :O

"He as in Benoit or He as in Angle?"

    He as in Angle.

Angle was wrestling through a neck injury that needed (presumably) neck surgery, was doped to shit on painkillers and refused to slow down and worked a full time shedule until he asked for his release instead of taking time off, healing himself and coming back to the ring as healthy as possible.

actually I've seen Dominique Dawes here in DC, she's still a hottie, but anyway....

.....Kurt Angle seems to be a bit more sane than usual, but he needs to give up the MMA dream.

In his Shoot Interview Kurt Mentions how he didn't who Shawn Michaels was. He talks about the Survivor Series when HBK was Stacked 5 to 1 (03 or 04?) and how good he thought Shawn's Performance was. So Shawn comes to back and Kurt goes "Hey Man, You're Pretty Good." and Shawn just gives him this "Are you kidding me?" look.
