CHIKARA Debuts in Chicago on September 20th
Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.14.2008

CHIKARA sent out the following press release:

CHICAGO, IL
– Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's acclaimed professional wrestling promotion CHIKARA, is making its Chicagoland debut next Saturday night September 20, 2008. CHIKARA, now in its seventh and biggest year to date, is heading west to present their vision of family-friendly, internationally-flavored pro-wrestling.

"CHIKARA is a comic book come to life, filled with colorful characters and cutting-edge wrestling that's fun for the whole family," according to founder Mike Quackenbush. "We want to bring our international style wrestling and unique brand of entertainment to new places, and considering our Lucha Libre roots, the Chicagoland area makes for an obvious first choice!"

Mark Coale of Odessa Steps Magazine notes "CHIKARA is the closest thing we have in America to Mexican pro-wrestling, better known as Lucha Libre." CHIKARA is full of masked and non-masked wrestlers who fly all over the ring doing all kind of dives, flips and incredible submission maneuvers. The air traffic controllers at nearby O'Hare Airport have been put on alert, as there should be some low flying aircraft in Streamwood on September 20. Including such luchadors as El Oriental from the acclaimed Mexico AAA promotion, and the original Mistico from Mexico, Incognito!

"I'm very excited about CHIKARA coming to the greatest wrestling town in the world, Chicagoland" says promoter Keith Lipinski. "For years I have wanted CHIKARA to venture west, and the fans have demanded an authentic CHIKARA show. Next Saturday September 20, they will finally get it. The CHIKARA professional wresting experience is unlike any other, perfect for families, fans of pro wrestling and the theater. It will be a very special night in Streamwood."

CHIKARA is not only known for its outstanding pro-wrestling contests, but for its wacky cast of characters. Besides your normal professional wrestlers, CHIKARA hosts some of the following intriguing characters: a colony of ants, two ancient Egyptians (a dancing pharaoh and a cobra), an insect evil doer, and two living ice cream clowns.

After playing to boisterous crowds in both Massachusetts and Connecticut earlier this year to celebrate the sixth year of CHIKARA pro wrestling, it was decided to take the CHIKARA circus on the road to see their great fans and friends in the Midwestern United States. The third weekend in September, CHIKARA is hitting the road and making our debut in both Illinois and Ohio!

Thanks to the cooperation of fine independent wrestling groups like NWA Midwest and Elite Pro Wrestling, among others, CHIKARA can finally announce the exact location for our September 20th Chicago-area event! On that particular Saturday, the stars of CHIKARA will play the Streamwood Park District Community Center, located in scenic Streamwood, IL. Our event will be titled, what else but, "The Artistic Pursuit of Being Yourself" and so far, a who's who of CHIKARA's finest have signed to be part of the event.

WOW !! A who's who of wrestling. Who's Tim Donst, Who's Fire Ant. The card should draw well if they promote it on the 10-15 sapnish stations in the Chicago area. Streamwood has a large Mexican population.

I wish it wasn't in Streamwood but I still might go.

Having grown up in Streamwood, Illinois, I can personally attest to its scenic beauty. The venue, in fact, is just south of the sewage plant, offering a lovely view.

I've heard a lot of good things about Chikara. I havn't watched any of there shows though, I don't have a job, lol. I'll probably pick up their "best of" set if I ever find it at BestBuy.

I am so heart broken that I cannot be at this show. And yes, I'm serious.
