WWE News: Great American Bash Buys, Punk Gets Key to the City and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.16.2008

- The WWE Great American Bash PPV did 195,000 buys worldwide, with 122,000 in North America. Last year the show did 250,000 buys worldwide and about 162,000 buys in North America. The show is down 22% from last year.

- The in ring return of Candice Michelle was heavily edited. Raw was a taped show that week.

- At the September 6th WWE house show in Jamestown, New York, city Mayor Sam Teresi and City Councilman Michael Taylor came into the ring and awarded CM Punk the key to the city.

I was at the show and Candice botched the hell out of a spring off the middle rope. Then the 'cover-up' moves were even worse. There was at least a good 20 seconds edited out that left the fans booing.

It should interesting to see the final GAB number when it comes out (this number reported is the early number).

According to the quarterly finanical reports, all 2008 WWE PPVs so far (except WrestleMania 24) did better numbers than the 2007 versions of the same events.

WrestleMania 24, slightly down from last year, was the second most bought pro wrestling PPV in history (behind WM 23).

Somehow, despite the ratings going down, the buyrates have picked up.

Punk as Champ = Epic Fail!!!

Thank god Vince took the title off him.

Really? She did a springboard flying kick aganist Jillian tonight and hit it fine. She also looked way more comofortable.

Perhaps it was just jitters of her first match back because she looked decent on Raw tonight. And much more comfortable.

Sorry for repeating myself in my above post about Candice. I hit the button before I meant to do so.

I figure the jitters is what she had. Her moves were crisp and solid up until she slipped off the middle rope, then it was like she lost all her confidence.

It wasn't too bad though. I thought HBK whiffing the kick's to Lance Cade's head three times was a funnier flub :D

PPV buy rates might be up but the PPV's still suck. Terrible booking and bad cards. Yuck.

No offense to Punk, but I guess it's not that hard to get a Key to the City of Jamestown.

..this is not an IMPROVEMENT in buyrates. Buyrates are obviously not up coming into July. Down 22% is pretty damn bad considering it was the only show they had that month.
