More Details On The Low RAW Rating
Posted by Ashish on 09.16.2008

Apparently the RAW rating ended up being rounded down to a 2.6, not a 2.7 as reported earlier. The show didn't have a single quarter hour that did a 3.0 or above, as the highest rated segment was a 2.9 at 10:15PM ET. The hourly ratings were 2.5 and 2.7.

The rating was obviously impacted some by Monday Night Football which did a monster 13.3 rating, the highest rating ever for ESPN.

Monday Night Football was not just the highest rated show in ESPN history but one of the highest in the history of cable television.

Damn, 2.6 rating. Could you imagine if TNA was pulling that kind of action?

Posted By: Dman (Guest)  on September 16, 2008 at 11:26 PM

I watched a lil' bit of Raw but that Dallas (my team) vs Eagles game was good.

Posted By: jaypayday (Guest)  on September 16, 2008 at 11:31 PM

So, wait, WHY did ABC hoist Monday Night Football off on ESPN?

Oh right, that's not what you're supposed to say. Let's see, what's the phrase again? Oh yes: FPIC EAIL.

......oh wai

Vince just got squashed. He should've moved RAW up to 6 PM to dodge the juggernaut known as the NFL. Seriously. Then, he can air the rerun of RAW at midnight.

All I know is he's not getting 3's unless there's a stinker of a game on ESPN that night, and he may not get that chance until November.

i hope vince doesnt over react and put the title on cena(who is injured) or batista just because of one bad rating.
they could of had a six man tag of hogan/rock/austin vs hbk/HHH/taker and still only do a 2.6 against eagles/cowboys.

Posted By: jd (Guest)  on September 16, 2008 at 11:44 PM

If TNA pulled that rating, they would all shit a brick

I want to see them put THIS fact on RAW next week!

Maybe if the WWE would have given away the result of the Monday Night Football Game they would have fared alot better.

Posted By: Tony Schiavone (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 12:15 AM

Since Punk is no longer champion the ratings have gone down the past couple of weeks. Plus did you think that Kane vs. Mysterio main event was really going to draw numbers?

"I want to see them put THIS fact on RAW next week!"

Did You Know? Sept 14, 2008... 10 years ago, 8.5 million watched Monday Night Wrestling.

If you didn't know, now you know.

Damn could you imagine that WWE once did triple TNA and now barely does twice pretty much says it all.

Vince will fire everyone if the ratings don't improve.

Damn, sorry guys, didn't mean to hog all the ratings away. Just picking up a garbage win en route to the Super Bowl...

Jericho as Champ = EPIC FAIL

Bring Back Hunter, or hell put the Title immediately on either cena or batista

wow...I'm not surprised. A great game was on...they said the game was the highest rated show in the history of CABLE television. too bad my birds lost.

A 2.6 was a damn good rating for WWE for Monday. I watched the cage match and flipped back a bit during commercials half time, but that MNF game was insanely great. I'm an Eagles fan and wasn't even that disappointed in the end just because the game was that good. WWE did the bet move in "stacking" that show a bit with the hot opener, but really, they shouldn't be upset over the rating being low considering their target audience is shared with the NFL's.

Posted By: Jimmy (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 04:55 AM

Not that it matters now, but you put a cage match for the title on first, you are not going to keep the people that tune in after that. Also, not that it affects US ratings, but the cage match was 1/2 over when The Score in Canada started showing RAW. It usually starts at 9:15, but due to technical difficulties, was joined in progress.
Also, you really need to put on a good show. If your ratings are slipping, you should try to do better every week. Dare I say, pull a WCW, scrap some story lines and start over.

To hell with football. I only watch real sports like pro wrestling.

Well...
Now people can't mock the TNA 1.1 rating for atleast this week...

Posted By: Travis (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 07:24 AM

That rating for the football game is massive, so the rating for raw does have a valid excuse.

I wonder how SD did in comparison cause I think it was higher then the week before.

Posted By: Jesse (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 09:49 AM

So, do you guys crap on TNA just because? I don't see how TNA was brought into this. It's about WWE and NFL. WWE went low for 1 week because of the awesome Dallas and Eagles game.

Posted By: UNBIASED (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 09:58 AM

Dallas Cowboys = EPIC WIN

No really if you saw the game it was awesome. Rey will no longer draw, he has gone down in preformance since the knee operations. And who cares what Raw did ten years ago? TNA has been building its fan base for six years and WWE has been around for decades. Yes they ned to FIRE RUSSO but still put on a good show with the X guys and KONG! I love TNA but Russo has to go for them to be a better company. Oh, I almost forgot.

RAW = EPIC FAIL

Damn, Sorry guys, was busy getting lucky that Dunavan MACnabb fumbled the ball and gave the game away... but hell im used to gettin' lucky, look at my girlfriend! yeehawww

I wouldn't be too worried. They were up against a helluva game that had a bunch of hype (and surpassed it in my opinion). I flipped back and forth between the game and RAW, but RAW was pretty good IMO this week. But the game was great.

jericho = scape goat

Well ESPN will have Brett Favre vs. LT in next week's game so I wonder what the excuses will be should RAW have another 2.7 rating.

Face it, no Cena, no kiddies to watch the program.

Posted By: Orlando (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 11:42 AM

Meh,take it with a grain of salt Vince. There are always going to be some who watch wrestling but don't watch real sports.

"...they shouldn't be upset over the rating being low considering their target audience is shared with the NFL'"

sorry, that kind of logic is frowned upon by the trolls. please utter 'epic fail' and suck a little tna dick and move along please.

"The rating was obviously impacted some by Monday Night Football which did a monster 13.3 rating, the highest rating ever for ESPN."

If i'm not mistaken, the game did a 12.4

"Damn, 2.6 rating. Could you imagine if TNA was pulling that kind of action?"

TNA isn't a multi-billion dollar corporation, the WWE is. It's pretty weak to try to deflect from the WWE's struggles by attacking TNA.

"If TNA pulled that rating, they would all shit a brick

Posted By: Michael Cole (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 11:51 PM"

TNA has been around for less then 10 years, the WWE for about 50 years. Hell yeah TNA would shit a brick, they're a new organization. That doesn't take away from the fact that 2.6 is a pretty shitting rating.

SEPTIC TAIL!!!!

Posted By: lazyassbum (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 02:22 PM

Yea RAW needs to understand that many wrestling fans are also football fans. I myself dont watch Raw during football season because it interferes with MNF. Maybe if Raw brought Kornheisher as an announcer ratings go up!

Posted By: Tony (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 03:48 PM

I guess that's what happens when you take the belt off CM Punk!

Just another chiming in who watched the game and DVR'ed RAW.

Watching a huge football game like this live > than watching RAW live. I can't believe they weren't singing from the mountain tops for pulling anything over 2.5.

Ratings were down 13% from last week? That is FANTASTIC considering what MNF did... more than 13% of the people commenting on here seemed to have watched the game, 'nuff said.

Posted By: Bucksinnc (Guest)  on September 17, 2008 at 09:02 PM

I live in Australia and I watched the game. Seriously, it was that good. Raw gets replayed the next day here anyway.

As far as a solution to the problem... well, there isn't one. Football has and always will be bigger than wrestling and more people will pick the game (especially if its a good looking one) over wrestling for that reason.

Posted By: Banz (Guest)  on September 18, 2008 at 11:41 AM

I can't see how the rating was impacted by football at all, considering 10 years ago the NFL tried to encourage WWE to move RAW to a different night for it impacting THEIR ratings. Face it - its because the show is of poor quality and people don't want to watch.
