WWE News: Vince Wants Acting, Taker Hurting and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.07.2008
Lots of WWE news for the day!
- Vince McMahon feels that the wrestlers need to become much better actors. He feels that Raw has to be able to stand up to the standards of acting on a regular television show, and a lot of the wrestlers in backstage vignettes aren't very good actors. Freddy Prinze Jr. is working with Michael Hayes and Christopher DeJosephs, and is now trying to teach the guys better acting skills.
- While WWE did well on their most recent International tour, it appears as if the Spain boom is now over. WWE drew 4,000 to 7,000 in 12,000-seat arenas that they were previously selling out. The feeling is that Spain, much like Italy has burn out on the wrestling scene.
- One of the Undertaker's knees are bothering him. Undertaker had arthroscopic surgery while he was off and his knee was in worse shape than they thought, and the beginnings of arthritis have set in. He was noticeably limping on the recent International tour and most feel that is due to him coming back so soon to work the Hell in a Cell match with Edge, which was very physically demanding. He has been booked for house shows in tag matches, and the TV dark matches have been kept short. While the knee is bothering Taker, they feel that by limiting him that he should be fine. Taker has a reputation for being one of those guys who can be in tremendous pain backstage, never complain about it, never show it in the ring, and comes back hurting behind the curtain.
- Festus suffered a strained calf on the European tour, but it is considered a minor injury.
If they want acting, why don't they use Paul London? He took acting classes just to be a better wrestling character. Vince is a moron sometimes

go home taker no one wants to see your washed up butt. they might take you if you beg.

Good thing they have FREDDIE PRINZE JR. teaching the wrestlers how to act. Good lord, why not just hire an inanimate lamp shade to teach them how to express human emotions. It'd probably work a million times better.
Or just go out of business right now and save yourself the slow decline.

Old man taker needs to retire, he looks like he's moving in slo-mo half the time.
Why don't they hire an acting coach to work with the guys?

UFC will eventually wipe out pro wrestling.

It is a very, very good idea for the boys to up their acting chops. While I don't think Prinze is the best judge of acting skills, he does have the experience that most of the guys are lacking. This probably came about because of Jericho/Micheals and its awesomeness, and I wouldn't doubt that Vince will put those two in similar teaching positions. It's really too bad that this notion came about after Foley and Flair's respective departures, both of them would do wonders for the young'uns.
Also, despite all that's going on with his, y'know, aging process, Undertaker is gonna work through anything and everything. Dude is the toughest bastard this side of Terry Funk.

It wasn't that long ago, 98 or so, when wrestlers were extensions of themselves. Flair , Austin, Rock aren't really actors. They just perform a character that is natural to play. Things were less scripted, unnatural and I believe things were more entertaining.

I agree with Vince McMahon's assessment. Many times when I have watched promo's from younger guys on the WWE roster, it just doesn't feel real to me. I know their tryin' their heart out, but many of today's younger WWE superstars just don't have the tremendous personalities of the 80s, 90s and Attitude era's. I don't think Freddie Prinze JR is the answer however.
Posted By: Dwayne (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 12:29 AM
I agree with Vince...to a point. It seems to me that some such as Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase should be better actors than they are, given their pedigree, but, as with their looks, it appears as if their mamas dominated their gene pools.

oh, but we don't use those anymore...

because Paul London weigh 120 pounds and has ZERO heat/pop. The guy isnt over. Get the f*ck used to it already.

Wasn't Paul London the only guy who couldn't keep a straight face while Vince McMahon was marching to a fiery demise? I'm just sayin'.

"go home taker no one wants to see your washed up butt. they might take you if you beg."
Really ? I mean...really ?
Your kidding right ? I mean I read a lot of stupid ass stuff here. But to say they might take him if he begs ? what is his job on a string ? Are they that close to letting the undertaker ? really is he so low on the card he needs to fear for his livlyhood ? I think you should have added "TNA will never take you ether cuz thats how stupid you are "

The fact that Vince thinks the problem with his show is the guys don't act well enough is the real reason why Europe became "burned out" on wrestling in two years and his ratings have gone from 6.0 to 2.9 in ten years.
So ridiculous. Trust me, as a business, it's all on a decline and unless at some point they change something they will go out of business very slowly... just like the AWA did.
Posted By: Guest#0629 (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Festus should suck it up. 'Taker would want it that way.

The WWE isn't going to go out of business anythime soon, or even for a long, long while. Speaking strictly business, Vince is a genius. He knows when to expand, when to cut losses, is not afraid to take chances, prepares for the future by making new stars, keeps each demographic interested in the product, changes with the times, and so many other reasons keep his company afloat and healthy. He has two kids who are very involved in the company, have been on both sides of the curtain, and both are capable enough to keep the company going long after Vince has retired.
So no, I don't believe that the WWE will end up like the AWA in any way, shape or form. The only thing that could possibly derail the WWE now would be some sort of unforseen catastrophic event.
And even that might not slow the company down too much.

Who is Freddie Prinze servicing. He's lucky to still have a job.
Posted By: Chico (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 01:23 AM
fuck these haters, undertaker is awesome. I think he is established enough that he shouldnt be overworking himself on house shows and dark matches. Keep him on TV where he can keep drawing ratings and not burning himself out on throw away matches.
Posted By: chris (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 01:29 AM
Their priorities are so fucked. 'Taker should be saving himself for televised matches, not non-televised matches. He's burning himself out in dark matches and house shows in front of 2,000-10,000 fans but not wrestling on television in front of five million fans.

Vince is a homosexual pervert

Meh, People don't want to watch Raw or smackdown when all they get to see are boring matches and bad acting. Vince, as much as you want to, you are wrestling, not acting. People want to watch WWE for WRESTLING, not acting. I think a lot of the young guys WWE have really need to cut their chops in the indies. The development territory is fine and all but since they're trained in WWE style, It's bland as hell.

Doesn't matter how good a wrestler you are: if you can't work the mic and you don't have a manager to work the mic for you, you are fucking worthless (see: Jeff Hardy)

People loved the Michaels-Jericho feud because they played their roles well and delivered great promos, not just because of their matches.

ffs it wrestling 0 people expect the acting to be badm that's the appeal

Because he's still shit at acting.

I don't know if they should be going to Freddie Prinze Jr. for acting lessons

Probably because Paul London likes to pretend he's Princess Jasmine getting fucked in the ass by Aladdin.

you know what I think when I watch a 5 star classic with rest holds and counters and real wrestling? BO-ring. But honestly, If I don't give a shit about the character why would I waste my time. Quit talking about "people" wanting to watch wwe for wrestling. Thats like saying people wanting to go to KFC for their tasty cheeseburgers. dickwad
And Jericho is kind of not really acting that well, he's cutting good promo's but he could at least throw a little inflection in his voice instead of the slow...plodding...promos he has been doing...like a bad dirty harry impression
Posted By: luthor (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 07:54 AM
Shelton could use lessons, then he'd be beyond awesome. Meanwhile, Morrison is being bitched out.

You mean the nervous, "Please don't fire me", !@#$-eating grin? Uh...that's 100% in character (& possibly real as well) 'cause that's what Paul London and half the roster must be thinking all the time.
Posted By: Ash (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 10:00 AM
yeah because I loved the promo at summerslam people won't care about promos if the matches suck throughout the feud. HBK and Jericho bring it in the ring so people care more.
Posted By: Guest#7430 (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Undertaker will face Triple H at next month's PPV in a Last Man Standing Match for the Title.

Luthor Apparently you dont get it. He said that hes not the old Y2J, that hes different. thats why he has changed the way hes done his promos. At least hes not going out there and just screaming his promos with the same old cliche about space mountain and being the man.

Freddie Prinz Jr to teach them acting?.....what's next Hulk Hogan to teach them wrestling?
Posted By: Draxxilla (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 12:16 PM
In other news, Hulk Hogan is giving parenting lessons and Dusty Rhodes is teaching the wrestlers about the benifits of healthy eating.

So you reckon the insanely over tag team of London and Kendrick was so popular based on Kendrick alone? Or do you argue that they weren't in fact popular?
You may be right that 120 pound guys can't be stars though because if they drew then Vince would have something like, I don't know, a Cruiserweight division or something. But no, we only want people like Batista don't we?
You're a jackass. So get the f*ck used to it already.

I think taker needs to take it easy with the house shows and such. Actually if they were sensible they'd turn him back heel for a bit and let him start up another Ministry. He would hardly need to wrestle at all if he did that (until the eventual betrayal and face turn) and could give plenty of clout to the show with his presence.
But then they don't really do stables bigger then 3 guys these days and of course no managers. Which I agree with others would be a great solutions to some guys sloppy promo work.
They really need to bring in Jake the Snake (if clean) and Ted Dibiase senior to teach the youngsters how to do promo's.
Posted By: Fenris (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 02:38 PM
Michael Hayes, Big Dick Johnson and Fred from scooby doo teaching wrestlers how to act?
When does the reality show start? It's like Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling in reverse!

Taker feels no pain, cuz his an undead zombie dead guy, u morons! he is awesome!!

Hulk Hogan SHOULD teach them wrestling. He's the best wrestler to ever live. Of course, we're talking about "pro-wrestling" here. Pro-wrestling isn't about how many moves you can do, it's about pacing your matches and making the fans care. And Hulk Hogan is and always will be the king in that regard.

Do you know who the most successful acting coaches in the world are? People who failed at becoming actors and became teachers instead.
Shit on Prince Jr. all you want, but he is a Hollywood actor with many starring roles under his belt. To have someone of his caliber actually be an acting teacher is WAY beyond any top acting coach they could possibly hope for.
Posted By: JP (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 05:23 PM
i think taker should lay low for a while. Bring him back in to face HBK at Wrestlemania. Its already two years overdue. Plus, there both from texas. Huge Draw Vince!!

think about this for a second.
do you watch porn for its acting?
No, you want to watch people fuck. If you watch it for the acting, you are a gay.
It should be the same with the wrestling biz. Sure, acting brings people into the feuds, so I can see where you pro-acting people are going. But, you really watch because you want people to fight. Or you just want to watch Santino work the mic, like me.
Posted By: ... (Guest) on October 07, 2008 at 07:26 PM
Taker can still work better hurt than almost anyone else his age can work healthy.
who the hell is Paul London?
Posted By: Darth Mortis (Registered) on October 07, 2008 at 10:00 PM
If they want better acting on WWE shows, Maybe they should, I don't know, Call me crazy but, HIRE SOME FREAKING ACTORS!!!!
Wrestlers go into the business to become wrestlers. GEE, Did killer kowalski's school have acting claas? probably not.
Take some actors out Hollywood and teach then a lil' wrestling. It's not like much of it on their show anymore
and what they do have "SUCKS" anyway.
