TNA News: Jim Cornette Update, Video Game Woes and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.10.2008

- In what is seen as bad news regarding the TNA Video Game, they have already dropped the price. This is a move that usually happens 6-months after the initial release. It is felt that the only reason this would be done so quickly is that it is a panic move, which would indicate that sales are even lower than originally anticipated.

- Jim Cornette was at the last TV tapings but never on camera, he was working as an agent backstage. Everyone backstage was putting over his work as an agent and it appears that this is where he will be used for now. With Jeff Jarrett, Mick Foley and Jim Cornette, it is felt that would be too many authority figures as TV characters, which is why the move was made. There is a possibility that Cornette could become a heel authority figure and feud with Foley.

- One of the drawbacks with the Main Event Mafia being the dominant angle in the company is that they will never be together as a group on house shows. Kurt Angle and Booker work a lot of the shows, and Steiner has in the past, but Sting will not be doing house shows. Kevin Nash isn't booked to do house shows although the belief is he's up for doing at least some. The thing there is that the lure of TNA for him has always been the TV's are a short drive from home, and he does very few dates on the road, just PPV and media days.

I would hope they didn't sign him for much then, since there's little chance he'd be willing to go to the WWE and put up with that travel schedule.

TNA The Video Game = Epic Sale!

Man Nash no shows PPV's and not B PPV's but the flagship PPV BFG and in the mainevent too.

Not to mention he's been "injured" on live TV 30 seconds into a match.

Unless they crowds really start to die off I wouldnt even think about bringing him out to tour.

He's good at iMPACT and PPV's and for doing promo shoots and shit like that.

I have a feeling they're gonna let Nash go as soon as they finish the MEM storyline.

I think they really were gonna cut him before BFG.

This is the final squeeze on Sting/Nash and Steiner and I dont see what more than they can do with those guys.

Steiner doesnt bitch and does house shows but hes injured half the time,so whats the use?

"Sting will not be doing house shows"

Its great that TNA has a champ that doesn't do house shows.
Way to represent the company.

There's a reason the TNA game dropped in price...it wasn't getting good reviews...Nintendo Power rated the Wii version a 5.0 out of 10. Gamespot gave the PS2 version a 6, the PS3 a 7.0

That tna game was terrible. It was like going back in time to some ps2 crap. They spent more hyping it than actually making it a solid game.

Heel Cornette = Intriguing.

iMPACT is way better than the first few gen Smackdown games.

Use Cornette to manage the MEM like a JJ Dillion...

"iMPACT is way better than the first few gen Smackdown games."

Yeah well, you know what's better than the iMPacT game? Smackdown vs Raw 2009.

People are making too big a deal of TNA iMPACT having the price lowered. Here in the UK last year, SmackDown! vs RAW 2008 was brought out at £39.99, within a month it was selling for £22.49 in Gamestation (one of the biggest game stores in the UK), and according to THQ, that sold well, so either THQ is lying through their teeth, or it really has no relation to how well it sold.

Personally, I understand the iMPACT game has faults, but the gameplay is great and I am eagerly anticipating iMPACT 2 since they now have a game engine to work on and they just need to build on that, the hard work is now done.

Actually, gameplay wise, it doesn't come close. Slow to react characters on the screen, the graphics are nice and shiny, but thats about it. So it has more game modes? Big deal, Create a Finisher is a big letdown since you can only do moves that require the opponent to be facing you and groggy.

Personally, I'd take the gameplay and fun of iMPACT and the features of SmackDown! vs RAW 09 and you'd have the perfect wrestling game.

The Impact game was a real piece of crap. I wanted to like it, I really did, but when everyone on the roster does Death Valley Drivers and has the same movesets, when there's no titles in the game to use, and when it's basically released only half finished...it's just a joke.

Smackdown vs Raw 2009 on the other hand is the dogs bollocks! Huge roster, loads of new features. I love it. And yes I agree the series had been in a slump beforehand but 2009 really picks it back up.

Here's hoping that Impact 2 turns out well. I do still get excited by the fact of a potential good game with all those things WWE games have, but with TNA stars.

It's 2008 and WWF no mercy is still better than it. That's just sad

TNA game was incomplete...the developers openly admitted. That POS should not have been released. I am still shocked anyone bought it at all. You have to be a hell of a fan boy to buy such an incomplete game. Have some respect for yourself and your money.

Just for the record (at least in my opinion), No Mercy is the greatest wrestling game ever released on any system, for any company. It will take something a level beyond incredible to ever top it.

Also, the first few SD games were actually not bad. Yes the first one kind of sucked, but 2 was really good in my eyes. Just Bring It sucked because of the retarded story mode. The best one in my eyes was Here Comes The Pain. The level of depth you could go into on the CAW mode was nuts. Pity the CAW has been stripped down in recent game.

And yes, the Impact game blows. When there's a total of around 30 moves in the entire game (including finishers), the movesets are identical, pinfalls are ridiculous, and the story mode is unrealistic garbage, it's generally not a very good game.

The TNA game was a piece of garbage - I usually have a lot of patience for wrestling games, but the gameplay on Impact was awful, and I just couldn't justify struggling to beat clown #1 to maybe get to unlock Abyss... besides which, to force you to use CAW and not give you any decent moves is ridiculous.

SvR 09 has it's flaws - but even after only playing it for an hour last night, I feel like I'm getting more enjoyment out of it

I got TNA Impact on Saturday! £15! EPIC SALE! I think it is quite good, I have completed the story mode on Indie although Jarrett of all people was just about Impossible to beat. Everything you have heard is true, not enough moves, tough A.I, not enough match modes but this is the FIRST of its kind. You are never going to get a Wrestling Game right first time! I gave up on Smackdown years ago although I continued to buy it. Last Year was the final straw, Next Gen my Ass! I have big hopes for TNA's next game, it is always a risk to start a new gaming franchise but TNA has by far the best wrestling engine (Unreal and Havok people!) give it a year or two and it is going to be BOSS!

Good move on dropping the price of the video game. As a full priced game it just wasn't worth it, at a lower price point maybe it'll be more of a draw.

Release cornette. His "shelf life" (to use one of his terms) is long expired- see 1988. He comes off as a bad used car salesmen and has been dressing like one for 20+ years

"iMPACT is way better than the first few gen Smackdown games."

I totally agree. Unfortunately, it's not facing competition from Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth, it has to compete with Smackdown vs. Raw: 2009. Really, the problem is that it was rushed. Hopefully Impact 2 actually gets the time and care it needs to produce a decent wrestling game for the average consumer.

TNA's Video Game that's the truth, indentical movesets, the CAW mode is terrible and only the mode that's fun is Ultimate X. It really doesn't deserve a 6.0 I think people are being too kind to it because it's TNA and different from Smackdown.

tna game is on a level of suckatude with wcw nitro on the 64

TNA would've been better served trying to sell that TNA mod for No Mercy than the glorified coaster that was Impact.

Jarrett is a beast in iMPACT!.. and the game is playable... but how long did we wait for it? We get the game and it's got a small roster, microscopic movesets, and just not a good depth of reply value at all for a wrestling game.

Smackdown vs. RAW 09 finally pulled the franchise out of the gutter after two or three years of struggling by. Sucks for Midway, but they should've made a better game. TNA did the promotion, TNA helped with the development.. Midway dropped the ball.

IMHO -- the best game engines for wrestling games are the THQ engine and the AKI engine.

The THQ engine has been the mainstay for many years with the WWE franchise. The movesets have have shining moments but it has floundered as of late. Instead of more moves and costume choices we get less. Why can't I fight throughout the whole arena dynamically like in earlier incarnations? It's like the disc only has room for a set amount of features and every year they try a new variation that takes away a good feature.

The AKI engine gained notoriety with Virtual Pro-Wrestling and WWE No Mercy. It has last been seen in the Def Jam series and most recently Ready 2 Rumble Boxing. The moves are fluid and responsive enough for what you want from a grappling heavy game.

I guess when they bought the Unreal Engine for TNA IMPACT, they never played WWE RAW on the original Xbox.

I bought it for my PS2 and its cool to play. Can't wait for the PSP version.

I was just thinking about this when I was at Best Buy last week. I saw the TNA game for only $40 and thought "that can't be good." It's still up in the air whether I was referring to the game or the price.

Give Cornette a Tennis Racket and bring back the Midnight Express and Rock N Roll Express.

you guys really play wrestling video games? HA! Steiner was talking about YOU in his promo on impact and the ppv! guys with their joysticks... heh.

Hogan did not do house shows during the nwo days, and that company made a lot of money before they went downhill due to the issues stated by bischoff
