Major TNA Star Likely Leaving For WWE
Posted by Ashish on 11.10.2008

The word backstage at the PPV last night is that Christian Cage will be heading back to WWE once his current TNA deal expires next month. TNA is apparently still trying to work out a deal with him, but most backstage feel he won't be staying.

WWE must be offering a bundle, because if I were him, it would take a major raise to get me to go from wrestling only in one city that's close to my house to traveling over 300 days a year while only being midcard talent.

" Christian Cage will be heading back to WWE once his current TNA deal expires next month."

I sure hope so. That stipulation last night with Booker was just retarded.
And if he comes back to WWE hopefully they will use him right.

The question remains, though...will he be of any higher profile when he returns to WWE than when he left, or will McMahon (who always takes shit like this very personally) punish him for leaving in the first place?

Ten bucks says when he returns to WWE he will lose his first match back to John Cena in less than three minutes clean. Then he will be squashed by guys like Jack Swagger or whatever on a weekly basis. Vinnie Mac already has a huge shit eating grin on his face.

Cage has already made verbal agreement with Vince to return to WWE once his TNA contract expires. Cage is furious that TNA had him job in his own hometown in Canada in the threeway PPV some months back. A WWE return is inevitable.

Thumbs up for WWE, they should make him a main eventer against Jericho instead of frickin Batista. BORING

As a fellow "Monday Morning Quaterback" of professional Wrestling this how I would play this off if I was TNA's writers and it's so obivious:

Have the "Yet to be named TNA Originals" take out cage after finding out Cage threw the match by letting himself get reversed by Booker. The beat down leads to him being "out" due to major injuries.

Nah...that makes to much sense. Bring on Russo.

Christian:"Tomko give me a beat."

Tomko: "No."

What is the price to go from main event status to being treated like MVP? I love the guy and he should do whatever is best for him, but if anyone thinks he will be treated differently than when he left, I've got a bridge to sell.

yeah christian go back to the company that said you would neveer be amain eventer and leave the compnay where nost of the shows are within driving distance and where you won 2 world titles and what happened to him having no interest in the wwe I guess he lied about taht the same way he did about TNA when he left wwe

Edge vs. Christian anyone?

YES!!!! now he gets to flounder in the mid-card on smackdown again. i wonder if wwe will remember that him and edge are kafabe brothers ? i doubt it

Posted By: shaydee (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:28 PM

They're stupid if they dont give him everything he wants.

1.He's established and a veteran.
2.He sells merchandise.
3.He's young still and works anc cuts great promos.
4.Works with young and new talent(He putter over Robert Roode,Kaz,Abyss, etc).
5.Most imoortantly he symbolises that TNA can and will push people from outside promotion with no delay.

Not to mention he's involved in their biggest storyline ever.

They need to backup the money truck for this guy and sign for a five year deal.

hopefully WWE will use him better than they did then right before he left. He was at the peak of his popularity and they just let his star dim. One thing TNA has done right is use Christian as a main eventer, hopefully he'll fit in with the new WWE uppercard of younger stars

if they treat him with the respect they've treated chris jericho with upon his return, this will be amazing.

Bout damn time. Nothing offensive about his TNA run but he was slowly getting depushed.

I wonder if this means Tomko will be joining him? Maybe a stable with those 2 and Gail Kim?

I guess a few backstage people (who could be the janitors for all we know) think he may be heading back to WWE...how is that any different than where we were at a few months ago with Christian?

I hope he does return to the major leagues, WWE...

I don't think he'll be happy. Same exact place on the roster either company...the E give more cash, but the schedule is still brutal.

Wish him the best eithe way.

I feel like the WWE missed the chance of really capitalizing on Christian last time around. He was pretty hot on RAW and seems like he was working on a good fued with Cena, all of a sudden you put Jericho in the mix and totally use Christian as the Jobber of the 3. And without getting any of his heat back after losing the fued, they put him on Smackdown and immediately job'd him to Batista on TV. If I was Christian, I would be pretty discouraged. I think he was just using TNA to show WWE that he could be a solid main eventer if given the chance. I somehow believed that he had always intended to go back once he achieved Main Event status in TNA.

I can't remember what exactly he said, and I am too lazy to dig it up, but I remember him leaving on good terms with the WWE and even said he would be happy to return one day.

As far as working more days and traveling goes, it might not have been the main reason why he switched in the first place as I mentioned above. Afterall, he is not like Nash, Sting, Booker and Angle. He is rather young and healthy, he can still work that WWE schedule, and why not take advantage of that while you still has a good amount of career left in you. Having a good run in the WWE HAS to equal more $$$ than a good run in TNA. I mean, afterall this is a career, why wouldn't you want to move up and do better and make more money while you can, right?

So good luck Christian, hopefully they will use you right this time around instead of just jobbing you to Cena and Batista...I am looking forward to a Edge/Christian program, or CM Punk/Christian, etc

WWE must be offering a bundle, because if I were him, it would take a major raise to get me to go from wrestling only in one city that's close to my house to traveling over 300 days a year while only being midcard talent.

Considering the lack of WWE stars able to generate heat AND wrestle, plus the fact that he's grown quite a bit as a performer the last few years, something tells me his days of being a mid-carder aren't coming back. The worry is will he become the main-event level jobber. Time will tell.

Posted By: Dan (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:37 PM

Gimme a break...half of you WWE marks that are welcoming Christian back with open arms are the same ones who said good riddance when he left. You didn't care about him back when Vince took a dump on his push and traded him to SmackDown. You scoffed at the idea of him making a splash in TNA. You made it seem like he was just another WWE castoff and didn't buy into him as championship material. TNA made a serious go with Christian Cage not once but twice both as a heel and a face. Sure his wave of momentum has tapered off this past year, but he was still putting on quality matches. TNA made all of you buy into him as championship material, something that WWE refused to do, and now its "fuck TNA"??? You should be thanking TNA for all they did for Christian Cage. While it may seem insignificant to the "WWE Universe" who often don't give a crap about anything else but their product, TNA lit a fire under Christian Cage and got him to level he hadn't seen in WWE. Yes it was on a smaller scale. But for once, Christian was treated like a champion, like someone who mattered. Not like a mid-carder or a joke. You should be thanking TNA. I wish Christian the best of luck in WWE, and I hope Vince realizes this time around what he has.

Posted By: bighustle (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:37 PM

like we all didnt see this coming when he left in 05..he didnt leave the WWE because he thought TNA would be better..he left because he knew he would be a big star over ther which would raise his stock and he could go back to the WWE and get a better spot and more money..Thats the best thing he could have done because now the WWE would use him in a much better way and its some much shit for him to get into either on Raw or Smackdown. I cant wait ..welcome home Christain!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: trae 316 (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:37 PM

I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand if he's actually used this time Christian will be golden for the WWE. But that's the problem I unlike the other comments here have little faith in WWE use of Captain Charisma.

The other negative is Thursday and Sunday nights are the only days I have off work (weird work schedule) so TNA is the only show I have time to see since I have no DVR. That and I have been enjoying TNA the last 2 weeks and enjoyed Turning Point. But I think the Christian Cage thing was foreseen now that I think of the crazy stipulation from last night it only makes sense for Christian to say he's rather quit then join the MEM. Anyways it goes its a big loss for TNA because Christian can work some really good matches. And to me its not a big deal for WWE because I'm concerned on how they'll use him. Wait and see progress if it happens that's all I can say

Maybe I get to see him at WM25 though that'll be nice

Posted By: Colin (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:37 PM

To all you WWE circle jerkers out there. This is not news. And five will get you ten he gets nowhere near main event status unless it's solely for reforming with Edge. Basically, there IS no tag team division in WWE right now unless you start combining all three brands together.

There wasn't really anything for Christian to do in TNA anyway,

God DAMN you WWE apologists are a fickle bunch. And if you don't know what the word 'fickle' means, google it.

If you do decide to go, good luck Christian. You did some good things while in TNA, and TNA fans will miss you.

Yeah, he'll job to Cena on 3 consecutive PPV's, then to Batista, HHH, Rey Mysterio and then to everybody - just like before.

Christian w/ Vickie Guerrero vs. Edge at Wrestlemania 25 for the WWE Championship.

BOOK IT NOW!!!

Diceman:

"That stipulation last night with Booker was just retarded."

Obviously you have no clue what storyline progression is. Yes the MEM pretty much dominated everything last night, but that's the point. There has been a slight improvement over the general storywriting of month's past. Instead of cramming one angle into one four-week period, they've been slowly working on spreading feuds out and continuing to develop them a little more. This makes for better programming and better set-up for PPVs.

Imagine if World Class in Texas had condensed the VonErich/Freebird feud into a one month storyline, then just cut it off.

Blame TNA writing for the crash writing if you want to, but there 'has' been a little improvement over the last few months.

Posted By: Eric (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:45 PM

It's not beyond TNA to try to swerve the net (Abyss, Kevin Nash). I call the same thing here, this is going to be made into an angle with Christian swerving everyone to join MEM.

"WWE must be offering a bundle, because if I were him, it would take a major raise to get me to go from wrestling only in one city that's close to my house to traveling over 300 days a year while only being midcard talent."

Whose to say that he'll still be a midcard talent? With the kinda small number of legit main eventers WWE has currently, he could easily be higher in the card. Also, he always has that instant feud/alliance with Edge.

Posted By: Super Dragon (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:48 PM

I'll believe it when I see it, but this is probably best for all parties. TNA has struggled to fit him into storylines, often rendering him an afterthought despite his status as a former world champion; WWE needs healthy, quality wrestlers on their roster right now (particularly on Smackdown); and Christian gets a shitload of money. Where's the downside?

Posted By: JohnEDowney (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:48 PM

Who the fck cares about this washed up has been. I thought it was a major star not this prick. Captian sucks ass should stay in crappy tna and continue to be a crappy head.wwe does not need this tomko loving fruitcake. F u all who are fans of this idiot....f u all!

If you're one of those WWE bitches just getting in a jab - please remember how you practically freaked out when stars like Angle and Foley left WWE - you couldn't say they sucked fast enough...that is, until the time comes for them to return.

It's a BUSINESS...it's either financial security or JOB security. Quit acting like people bouncing from promotion to promotion never happens. You obviously were born in the 80s or 90s where things like that didn't happen.

Learn your entertainment history or shut the fuck up...

Posted By: Bernie Lomax's momma (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:49 PM

On paper, this should be huge for the E. His connections to Edge and Jericho would give him huge angles on either Raw or Smackdown. That said, Vince's pettiness knows no bounds and he'll probably be jobbed out to Orton or HHH so he can be "rebuilt". By the time he gets back on top, the novelty of his return will be over.

Posted By: Bemini (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 01:51 PM

Right he was wasted by being a world champion and being allowed to finally destroy the mic with some epic promos. He was totally wasted, because in the WWE he was given world titles and tons of time to get himself over.

The Machine Guns are wasted, Christopher Daniels is wasted, DOUG FUCKING WILLIAMS is wasted. TNA makes a lot (read four lots) of mistakes, I don't know if Cage was one of them. The only reason I could see Christian wanting to go back is he is being promised a lot. Like someone said earlier traveling pretty much everyday in a car all over the country as opposed to riding down the interstate a couple of exits, is a huge difference. I am sure TNA will wish him well in his future endeavors

Posted By: Kip (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 02:01 PM

Wow, things in TNA must be terrible if he's going to give up a sweet schedule in his home state for the rigors of the WWE. Either that, or he'll be getting a SHITLOAD of money. No more midcard for Mrs. Cage's boy.

Posted By: CharlieGoose (Registered)  on November 10, 2008 at 02:05 PM

I'm imagining the dream matches now.

Cage vs Edge. Cage vs Jericho. Cage vs HBK. Cage vs either Hardy.

EPIC WIN!

Posted By: Davis (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 02:06 PM

I figured that Christian would head back to the WWE when his contract expired.

The really good thing about this is that Christian has built-in programs with main eventers on Raw and Smackdown. If he heads to Raw, he and Jericho could battle for the title, and if he heads to SD, he's got a program with Edge. Either way, he can be in line for a main event push, at least briefly.

Posted By: Michael L (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 02:08 PM

This is awesome news, since I am a huge Christian fan, but if he comes back, he needs to be on his own, and not associated with Edge or Jericho. The only exception would be in a feud, or a random Raw/SD main event Tag Team match. You cant bring him back as someone's second fiddle, otherwise he'll be a joke right off the bat.

As long as he doesn't get jobbed out!!!!

MANIA= Christian vs. CENA vs. EDGE

Book that shit!!

Love it. Everyone who's excited about Christian going back to the McMahons can only come up with scenarios that were 5 yrs too old by the time he left. Yes, let's rehash the Edge/Christian team. Let's rehash the Edge/Christian feud. Let's rehash the Jericho/Christian team. Hey, we can also rehash the Jericho/Christian feud. Blah blah blah. If Christian goes, he kisses away any chance at a world title. But if he makes more money, then more power to him, I just won't be watching him wrestle.

... I'll be watching him "entertain."

It's a shame.. I like Christian Cage as a TNA guy.. but really, where can he go in TNA? He already seems stale there.. lots of fresh feuds and teams in the WWE though.

TNA wasted Christian Cage? Ha, in WWE he was a midcarder at best. In WWE he has been solidly in the main event since day one.

If its any consolation. It isn't confirmed he is leaving yet. He likes the schedule and the push of TNA and it is likely that if TNA offered him good enough of a deal, he would stay.

you talk about TNA using him wrong in TNA he was a two time champion was undefeated for over 2 years was always in either a main event or important match on ppv
wwe he never got a chance for the main event
thats how it happens someone does good in TNA or ROH than wwe is drooling for them
time for cages moveset to be killed he was becomeing a daredevil
crossbodys off of ultimate x structures and cages
frogsplashes off of ladders and cages

Christian is back where he belongs. TNA is like WCW back in the day, they take WWE guys and don't do anything with them. I don't see Vince punishing him. They brought Jeff Hardy back and put him in a main event program and Jeff repeatedly has embarassed the company. Christian went someplace and made himself a bigger star and the WWE didn't suffer. TNA is no closer to being a competitor to WWE now than they were when Christian first went there. Christian never really bad mouthed the WWE, unlike Kurt Angle. He's still young and certainly charismatic. Vince is too smart of a businessman to let Christian just be a jobber. He can sell a ton of merchandise and fit in with guys like Jericho and Edge. I would love to see him and Edge together in some form, or book him in a fued with Orton.
Either way, this is good for Christian, TNA is where the old guys go to cash a few last checks without having to go out and do all the house shows. Christian never fit in there and was always a step above everyone else on their roster.

If Vinny Mac wanted Christian to be a main eventer he would have been.
Gimme a break, you think him coming back is going to move HHH, Taker, Cena, Batista, HBK, etc out?
If they wanted someone who could do what Christian does they would have created the guy.
I see it as a way to up his stock with TNA. If I were TNA I would sign him, BUT, let's be honest, short of Hogan no one has that kind of "star power" to make or break a promotion. NO ONE.
You may not like it, but you know I am right.
Christian in TNA = 2 Time World Champ/Serious Main Eventer
Chrisian in WWE = Just another guy.

I'll believe this when I see it. Nash was going to WWE. So was Team 3D. If he does, good for him. That's a spot at the top for somebody else, and there's plenty of potential there.

On the other hand, he would have had another TNA World Title push eventually, maybe within the next year. I don't expect MEM to last for a year, and that would be Cage's next opportunity.

If Vince is wanting him back, it's because he knows WWE needs another spark of excitement. Don't count out the possibility that Cage will get a title run either on Smackdown or ECW. After watching Christian excel on TNA, Vince knows now what he can do as a solo star.

As I said, I'll believe it when I see it, but I wish him the best regardless.

Christian will reunite with Edge for one PPV, get punked out by an Edge double-cross, then get sent down to ECW as 'enhancement talent.'

Don't do it Christian!!

Although, I can see where it was awesome in the beginning to be the first wrestler to jump, it seems like there are more WWE guys in TNA now than in WWE.

Now, if only Jim Ross would jump feds - THAT would be news.

The WWE might have a whole new undercard for Christian's return but lets not forget, their main event guys are still the same. So congrats Christian Cage, Vince kept your spot underneath the glass ceiling ready for your return. How long before Angle goes back too?

well it doesn't seem to be official yet but if it does happen, the question is how will he be used? Christian will still be the good performer that he is BUT do u guys HONESTLY think that Vince Mcmahon would give christian a respectable reign with either the wwe or whc title? I think not, but money talks and wwe has a boatload of cash plus his best buddy is there so whether he stays or goes to wwe, I hope he does well

So people actually think Vince is gonna let Christian actually do something significant in WWE? Unless he sells like Jeff Hardy I don't see that happening. Most we'll see is Christian in the MitB ladder match. Don't expect a main event push expect him to be a jobber to the stars.

At least he'll be able to defeat Shelton, Carlito and R-Truth

Chr4istian was never a main eventer in the WWE, he's been a World Champion and main eventer in TNA. Re-joining the WWE will be great for his bank balance but he will be made to look like a jobber on the WWE to discredit TNA.

Do you guys cheering this move actually think that WWE will use a smaller guy properly? We all know Vince's muscle fetish will put Christian in the same place as all the other smaller guys - solidly in the mid-card or lower. Hopefully TNA pulls out the checkbook for him, because that would be a horrible move.

I will say I never cared much for Christian when he was in WWE, but I'm actually quite thrilled to hear he's coming back. With the impact (no pun intended) he made in TNA, I'm sure WWE will give him a chance to make an even bigger impact. And I'm sure the WWE fans will welcome him home.

Territorial pissings aside (YAY WWE YAY CHRISTIAN) (YAY TNA BOO CHRISTIAN) (WAHHHHHH), this could be very interesting. The doom and gloom posters could be right, and Christian could be jobbing out in short order. But from all accounts I've read, he left in the right way, and didn't leave any hard feelings on the table. Vince is as loyal as he is grudge holding, so I could see him respecting Christian for how he handled his exit.

Time will tell how this goes. Or if it even happens.

Hey Davis,

All of your dream matches have already happened!!!

Edge vs. christian was a ladder match

christian took on jericho at wrestlemania 20

edge and christian took on the hardys numerous times over the years.

as a matter of fact, HBK and Jeff Hardy took on Christian and Chris jericho one night on RAW when it was on TNN.
and in 2005, at vengence, Christian took on jericho AND cena in a three way match.

I hope christian does go back to the WWE but I hope they don't do the same thing with him like they did last time!!!

I'm a huge Christian fan and have loved his work in TNA, I don't see why he'd want to leave TNA to back to WWE. I can't see Vince pushing him as a maineventer, I can see him being jobbed out to someone like Shelton on Smackdown.

I wonder what his motivation is here? TNA treats him like a big star, why would he want to go back to the hectic WWE schedule when he's got it so well made where he is?

This is something I won't believe until actually happens.

I hope Christian knows what he's doing. Sure, he is going to make more money than he would be in WWE, but Christian would have to wrestle a lot more and he won't be a good as a wrestler because of it. Christian has to work 300 days a year and cant keep on putting great matches because he will burn out. I only hope that Christian gets pushed.

I saw this one coming a mile away. As a TNA fan, I'm sad to see him go. As a Christian fan, I'm happy for him. There is no room for him in the current TNA storyline. He doesn't fit with the Main Event Mafia, and he's not a TNA original (He would also overshadow Joe as the top babyface). TNA is a place for older stars who don't want to hit the road, and younger stars who don't have what it takes to make it past mid-card status. Christian is neither, and for the past few months he has been spinning his wheels. His best days are ahead of him. Finally a reason to watch the E.

Not to burst anyone's bubble here or anything...but this IS pwinsider.com we're talking about. I honestly don't think that Christian's that naive that he's not going to think something like this through carefully, since he left the E in the first place to get away from the grind of constantly being on the road. Vince could possibly be waving a LOT of money at him to coerse him to come back. But with the 'E posting a huge profit loss this quarter...and the pretty steady cuts in talent over the last few months - Vince isn't having one of the more successful years in a long time.

Let's just see where this goes. And another poster was right: there were rumblings that Nash and Team 3D were going to jump ship and run back to McMahonland...and they didn't.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't understand the logic behined the face just because someone is happy about Christian going back to the WWE, thus instantly making him anti-TNA and pro-WWE.

I am a fan of wrestling, and the wrestlers. I am excited about Christian going back to the WWE, but doesn't mean I am a TNA hater. For the record, I was upset the first time around when the WWE totally misused Christian, in what seems like at the blink of him finally getting into the spotlight. And I was upset that he left. And I was also very happy when he showed up on TNA and got the recognition that he deserved, and I too was happy when he won the NWA-TNA title. But my point is that, there's always room, and there's certainly always time for one person to like a little bit of both sides. I have to say I wasn't a big fan of the better part of the TNA product this year, but the MEM vs TNA original stuff has been pretty good so far. And I don't know about most of you guys here, but I was really entertained by the Jericho/HBK fued, and I enjoyed Jericho's title reign, as well as the build up to Orton's return, most of the ECW matches, Santino's mic time, but at the same time I agree the WWE dishes out some dumb shit at us all the time.

I honestly don't think there's one company that's supremely better its competitor at this point. You know what that means to me? It means that I get to pick, I get to pick to watch some of the TNA stuff and some of the WWE stuff. I am a fan of Christian, and I think going back to the WWE will be beneficial to this career, and also the fueds, if booked right, but be interesting. As others had pointed out, his role in TNA is awkward, and it seems he doesn't quite fit in with what's going on right now. I'd hate to see them book him to do what Rhino is doing right now. And honestly, it seems like the WWE has been pretty good with booking his talents in terms of the main event scene. They are not afraid to give guys like Evan Bourne, Miz, Morrison, Cryme Tyme their much needed exposure to the fans. I think Christian's possible return to the big league seems like a good move on his part.

With that said, I am sad for TNA in losing a main eventer, but just like when Gail Kim left, someone young and driven will step up and take that spot.

We, as wrestling fans, will almost always win when there's competition between the two companies.

Again, we don't have to (unless you choose to) be diehard fan for a specific program. Let's just enjoy and hope for another boom period

Did everyone forget he didn't leave WWE on bad terms!? His contract ran out, he didn't piss away his money, and he wanted a lesser schedule close to home. TNA provided this for him, and he ran with it. I bet if you asked, most would say he should have been pushed higher(like TNA rightfully did) in WWE, but they clearly had other ideas in mind, hence John Cena era whether we liked it or not. If anything a lot of idiots out there forget that certain guys do not need titles or main-events to get over. Christian deserves more top spots, but he's talented enough not to need them. Like The Rock had said many times, it doesn't matter how many times you win or lose, it's about entertaining the people. Christian, even if in the mid card, will matter big time, and will have a successfull run once again.

As happy as I am, I'm just worried how they going to use him. I wished he could have stayed in TNA. I know they where depushing him, but at least they treated him like he mattered.

If he ends up on SmackDown!, he'll end up jobbing to that egotastical-maniac HHH, Jeff Hardy, ANd Undertaker. If he ends on RAW, he'' end up joobing to John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and boring ass Batista. I Really hope that none of this happens to him.

Posted By: Pecker (Guest)  on November 10, 2008 at 08:20 PM

I'm torn by this. I'm much more of a TNA fan than a WWE fan. So I would rather see him stay there. Eitherway, I'm a big Christian fan. If he does leave, I just hope WWE doesn't fuck up his return.

Say what you will about TNA (And you guys never pass up the oppertunity), but one thing they did was make Christian much more revelant to the promotion than WWE ever did! Before people argue that WWE is more revelant therefor anything he does there would be more revelant than anything he does in TNA...I'm refering to the promotion itself. TNA made the man a TWO time World champion, and he was a major player IN TNA. WWE never gave him the oppertunity to be what he could be.

So if he returns and is put the main event/upper midcard region and made to be an important member of the roster, good for him. But I can't help but feel as though he'll recieve an initial push, then find himself stuck in the midcard/lower midcard ranks for the rest of his contract.

I just want to see a talented performer given the position/status he's earned.
