Various News: Paul Heyman on the Jeff Hardy Angle, Big Vito’s MMA Debut and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.26.2008

- The Heyman Hustle is on a hiatus after finishing the first 20-episodes. As of now this is considered their season, and they are scheduled to begin taping another set of shows next month.

- Speaking of Heyman, he is still publishing articles for the UK SUN. His latest column is on the Jeff Hardy angle from the weekend, and why is was bad for their business. You can check out the article here.

- The Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Wasterloo, Iowa is hoping to have renovations completed by early January. The Institute suffered terrible flooding that ruined much of the museum and left it with $400,000 worth of damage. For more information on the Institute, visit www.wrestlingmuseum.org.

- Former WWE and WCW wrestler Vito LoGrasso issued the following press release today.

BIG VITO'S FIRST MMA FIGHT – A LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Tampa, FL – Without the press present and no big build up or hoopla, Big Vito (Vito LoGrasso) won his first Mixed Martial Arts fight in the Dominican Republic. The fight went 3 rounds with Vito winning on a decision.

"The Wrestling Business has been on a down slide, so I finally decided to get off the couch and do it!" Said Vito, "It was a huge learning experience! MMA is no joke. It is to be taken seriously and is not something for the average person with no experience to do. It takes a lot of commitment and training."

The whole event had little glitz and glamour and not a lot of people present. Vito had been discussing doing the transition for over a year but continues to wrestle with Independents and Nu Wrestling Evolution in Europe.

"You have to have heart, determination and skills," said Vito. "I am happy to know that if I wanted to do this on a full time basis, I could be successful." It says a lot for The Toughest Man to Ever Wear a Dress.

Big Vito does not have the Amateur Wrestling status that most do who switch fields but he survived his first fight. He returned to the US with a couple black eyes and bruised ribs.

For more information or to book Big Vito please contact vitobookings@yahoo.com.

And yet none of those angles that Jamal listed involved the company making false claims of major news outlets covering it, or basically cashing in on constant drug-related deaths. Try again.

I work in the media and in my experience: WWE just posted this item on their website and whether or not the major news media covered it was entirely their call. Likewise, nowhere was there a mention of a tie-back to drugs in the wwe.com story, and if the major news media decided to assume that and make the connection then it is their own damn fault.

But at the beginning of Survivor Series, they showed JR and Taz with their serious voice reporting what happened and made it seem like a drug overdose. This was basically assumed until Matt Hardy said it was an attack.

You can thank Chris Benoit for killing that angle quickly.

It wasn't an angle unto itself, but Vince pimping out his own daughter to his business associates was sick.

Vito is still wrestling, can fans like you go back to school and learn how to read. The library isn't just for using the internet and posting comments you know.

Posted By: Guest#6927 (Guest)  on November 26, 2008 at 03:05 PM

Then maybe they goddamn editors should post news about Vito WRESTLING and not having a MMA MATCH. There is a MMA section for that Guest#6927.

@ Nic Flair (Guest):

That was Sandman's son that was brainwashed (by Raven).

Posted By: sa+an (Guest)  on November 26, 2008 at 04:05 PM

WWE doing an angle in 2008 where they report on their website that Jeff Hardy has been hospitalized is no different than angles from the 80's and early 90's when a wrestler gets "attacked on a tv show" and is hospitalized.

They just realized that the internet is a new medium for getting an angle across for new marks.

Okay Sandman's son being brainwashed was an awesome angle. Anytime you can get a crowd chanting for a father to cane his child you've completed your task.

Dammit sa+an you're right. I had it backwards.

I deserve a cane shot for that.

Benoit killing his family. Oh wait, that wasn't a work. UGhhhhh, Eddie overdosing in a bathroom. Nope. How about the tag match between Vince/shane vs Michaels and GOD? That's the one. WWE fucking sucks! I'm surprised they didn't have a jesus on a crucifix match. I guess that one might still be possible if TNA can think of a way to put jesus on a pole.

As for the stop putting wrestling news here thing, Did you ever think maybe most MMA fans don't know who Vito is, so they wouldn't care.

Posted By: Electrihotdog (Guest)  on November 26, 2008 at 08:11 PM

"And you know what happens when you ass-u-me."

Given the situation, WWE knew people would assume, or at least think of, the Eddie and Pillman cases. You can't really blame anyone for assuming what they did - WWE orchestrated the situation so that people would assume exactly that.

So the fuck what about the Hardy angle! Half the people bitching about it are the same people who joked about Hardy's house getting burned down and saying that he should've been fired after his second violation.

Plus, it's not WWE's fault that AOL.com and ABC, etc. fell for it.

Jesus Christ, a company actually does something interesting in this day and age and everybody wants to bitch. (and yes, that includes TNA as well)

Little boy, you were told not to post unless you know what the fuck you are posting about.

No false claims were made about news outlets covering it, since at least two news outlets picked to story up. As for the 'constant drug related deaths' i suggest you remove Marc Mero's balls from your chin, and stop posting when you don't know what you are talking about.

Cut the holier than thou attitude, because it's getting old and you're talking out of your ass. WWE said that CNN and TMZ covered it when they didn't. MAJOR news outlets =/= AOL and a local newspaper.

And what are you talking about with the immature-insult-laced comment about drug related deaths. Have you been paying attention for say, the last 15 or so years? Brian Pillman, Eddie Guerrero, Pitbull #2, Chris Benoit, etc.
