Various News: Foley Wrestling, WWE Loses German TV and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.01.2008

- The advertisement for TNA's Genesis PPV, which is scheduled to take place on January 9th in Charlotte, NC is teasing former WWF champion Mick Foley could be returning to the ring at the PPV. The advertisement says: "Some call him a hardcore legend, a daredevil…a risk-taker. He is Mick Foley. He crossed the line and came to TNA to challenge some of the greatest athletes and legends. Now he's ready to make history inside the six-sided ring."

- German pay-TV provider "Premiere" announced on its official website that WWE programming will no longer be showing for the first time since December 2002, starting next week. WWE and Premiere are still working on a new TV deal, but they haven't come to terms yet. Premiere wants to offer the German fans "much better WWE programming," which would include complete RAW episodes (for the last 6 years Premiere just showed the 1 hour international edition of RAW on a delay of eight days). Right now it seems as if both sides are far from making a new deal.

- WWE was the second most searched item on Yahoo in 2008. Britney Spears was number 1.

- Darren Aronofsky's film, The Wrestler will open in New York and Los Angeles on December 19th. It will then open in additional markets over the following two weeks.

You'd think WWE would be happy to give the Germans the full 2 hour show. I hate those international episodes that I have seen on occassion.

Did anyone REALLY think that all Foley was gonna do in TNA was be "Commissioner" Foley again?

"Some call him a hardcore legend, a daredevil…a risk-taker". Others like Rick Flair call him a stuntman and I call him a bitchy washed up fat ass

Here comes the torrent of abuse for Foley wrestling in TNA, but if it was WWE no-one would be bothered !

Cant wait to see The wrestler, glad I dont live in the flyover states.
Foley vs Shelley would be good or a hardcore match against sting would be interesting because of the great feud they had in WCW.

LOL Mick Foley is a loser and yes Ric Flair is right hes a glorified Stuntman. EVEN in WWE He SUCKED!! unless he was flingin himself off of cells into tables or tacks, becuase HE HAS NO TALENT IN THE RING

Dont bitch and complain Foley loves to put people over he made Randy Orton, and you can expect that hes going to make Alex Shelley

If you think Mick Foley made Randy Orton then your a retard, Ric Flair and Triple H made Orton, and not to mention hes a second generation wrestler unlike big fat usless jabroni's who whip socks out of there pants. Mick Foley has one saving grace and one saving grace only he can work the stick, and half the time thse days he gets his cheap pop and shills himself so shut the hell up you blind Foley worshipers

Actually, HHH pretty much buried Orton after kicking him out of Evolution and getting the title back. After that, Orton was pretty much ignored by the fans until he debutted his "Legend Killer" persona and it was his feud with Foley that got all the press and started to put him over with the fans as a true heel. The Orton we have now is the one the Foley feud gave us not Evolution's prettyboy/narcissist Orton.

I'm personally looking forward to Foley entering the ring again in a competitive position as opposed to just being a TNA office associate of Jeff Jarrett's. Mick's been away from full-time competition long enough that it has likely done him some good in terms of whether or not his body is physically able again - even if just for a part-time in-ring run. A few matches on house shows or episodes of Impact would be of assistance, in my opinion, in shaking off any ring rust he may have as well before the inevitable, bigtime PPV ring return. It is indeed very likely that Mick is healed up enough to give it one more solid go as an active wrestler before hanging up the boots and officially once and for all calling it a career. I'd most certainly like to see Foley tie it up with that goofy, Alex Shelley, even if just to destroy him Cactus Jack style, however in terms of serious TNA matches for Mick Foley, I'd like to see him in highly competitive one on one's with Kurt Angle, Sting (would be a great opportunity to have just one more battle between these two old rivals!), Hiroshi Tanahashi, Abyss, James Storm (Storm and Foley could have some hardcore battles that no doubt would remind some of Foley/Terry Gordy death matches) and Cute Kip (I would kill to see one more return "Dumpster Match" between these two former rivals). Bring it on, Mick! One more good 1 to 2 year run as an active TNA competitor would make 2009 extra special!

I think it's great if Mick Foley works a limited amount of dates, TNA Superstars would love to work with him, who wouldn't? Foley has proven he will do whatever it takes inside that ring, loves to help the next generation, and I don't think anyone can say it would do anything but help Shelley's career tremendously as would it any of TNA's up and comers.

The German's are smart. Just drop wrestling altogether.

Foley should have retired from wrestling right after his Wrestlemania match with Edge. It was good (not great or the best hardcore match of all time like people claim it is..)and he got his WM "moment". What else could he have asked for? By him sticking around, it just further killing his "legacy".

lol if Foley was wrestling in WWE everybody would be singing a completely different tune. The IWC loved everything Foley did until he went to TNA.

Foley is going to put Alex Shelley over and a Foley vs Shelley match will obviously better than every match that took place on Survivor Series.

We'll watch AJ, Angle and Foley, you can all watch Koslov, Batista and Cena.

unless Foley wrestles Abyss I don't care.

What a bunch of idiots you guys are. As soon as I read the topic of this news post I knew that there would be bitching about Foley being a washed up loser. Why the hell do some of you crap on everything that happens in the world of wrestling. It seems that some of you hate every thing about wrestling.

Is Foley in his prime...no, but he is still entertaining and has earned his place in wrestling. Even if you have no interest in watching Foley, you make yourself look like a jack ass when you bash him.

Can I have some of the WWE Kool Aid ya'll are drinking? Nobody on here said JACK SHIT about Flair's legacy being tarnished during that final run. Bunch of hypocrites on this site.

And I bet there are some really dumb Germans who still watch RAW intently every week thinking Brakkus might finally show up

The Orton-Foley feud was before Orton won the world title. It occurred during Orton's IC title reign. The "Legend Killer" gimmick started the previous year, when he beat Shawn Michaels at Unforgiven during HBK's never-ending feud with Evolution.

"We'll watch AJ, Angle and Foley, you can all watch Koslov, Batista and Cena."

I love lines like this, because they're so easily turned against the guy who wrote 'em. For instance:

"We'll watch Edge, Hardy and Jericho while you watch Steiner, Nash and Jarrett!"
