WWE Drops New Smackdown Character

December 23, 2008 | Posted by Larry Csonka

After his debut video package appeared on Smackdown last week, plans have been dropped for the new character that was to be played by Hade Vansen. Vansen was going to be put into an angle with the Undertaker, but Vince McMahon made the call to drop the angle and the character. McMahon didn’t want an unproven developmental talent being put into a major angle before he had been tested.

Michael Hayes was the man behind the angle, which was to create a new nemesis for the Undertaker. Kevin Thorn and developmental talent Black Pain were to be associated with the new character, but they were told at last week’s TV that the angle and their new character had been scrapped.

Vansen was to portray a dark character that would have “cult” overtones, with Thorn and Pain being paired with him. Vansen has been with WWE since 2007, when he was signed to a developmental deal, but missed the better part of a year with a severe knee injury.
