Various News: Time Warner vs. Viacom, Heyman’s Year End Awards, New Jim Ross Column
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.31.2008
More Wednesday news!
- This afternoon Time Warner made an offer to Viacom, which was an increase of the original offer, and asked for an extension in negotiations. Viacom rejected this offer as they felt that it was a lowball figure, as they asked for a $39 Million Dollar increase. Viacom rejected Time Warner's request for a 15 to 30 day extension, and with just hours to go, it appears as if Viacom will be pulling nearly 20-channels from Time Warner Cable, including SPIKE TV, Comedy Central, and MTV. This would remove these channels from roughly 13% of the country. This would specifically hurt TNA and UFC, as they have exclusive deals with SPIKE TV, and wouldn't be able to seek another outlet until their deals are fulfilled. [Credit: Wrestlingobserver.com]
- The UK SUN has posted Paul Heyman's latest column, which is his take on the "Year End Awards," called "The Paulie Awards." You can read the full column here.
- Jim Ross' latest edition of Smackdown This! has been posted. In the column he discusses Friday's edition of Smackdown in detail. The full column is available here.
So TNN/Spike fucks over another wrestling company? Shocking.

We know Netflix killed Blockbuster, so we decided what little our company has left to offer we'd eliminiate ourselves

Hmm... Question...
How many of you would switch Cable Companies just to watch TNA on Spike?

In all reality, both TNA and UFC would be able to renegotiate their deals because more than likely, Spike/Viacom promised a certain amount of clearance to each. It could very well be that CBS picks up the slack for them.

Boycott Viacom/CBS! I've always hated that company! Mismanagement for YEARS!! They don't give a damn about the consumer! They'll end up losing more than they would gain from the extra they're asking for. I hope they get bought out by Time Warner in the end.. Talk about turn-about being fair play.. hehe :D

Uh, no. This isn't the fault of Spike. Rather, they are a victim of this bickering between Viacom and Time Warner Cable. It's sad really.

Its not TNA itself its that people are about to lose 20 channels while paying a bill for those channels every month. I'm probably gonna lose two channels I watch almost daily Spike TV and Comedy Central and my kids are going to lose Nikelodeon and they watch shows like Tmmy Turner alot.

more correctly Viacom + Time Warner = fucked up wrestling company.
That's an even bigger shock.

to Jay... Spike/TNN is Viacom.. they own them... i could care less about losing SPIKE but i dont want to loose Nick or TV Land (though it sucks i watched a great lucy marathon today)

i would and will switch cable companies to watch spike and comedy central

Yeah I could really care less. I've watched a grand total of 4 Impact episodes over the last year. Lance Storm commented on his site that a recent Impact had a little under 18 minutes of actual wrestling. Pretty pathetic for a 2 hour show. Even Raw features more than that on a weekly basis.

People who time "actual wrestling" minutes on WWE or TNA shows are pathetic. Promos and backstage segments are as much a part of pro wrestling as what happens to go in in the ring. If you care about how much time you get to watch "actual wrestling", go see an amateur college match or something.
