WWE News: New DX Book, Cena’s a Big Seller, Kizarny Heat, MVP, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.05.2009

- The company will be releasing a book entitled The History of DX sometime in 2009, which will be told by HHH and Shawn Michaels.

- John Cena's merchandise numbers for 2008 were better than anyone's in company history, except for Steve Austin's run during his peak. Cena's sales for the year were bigger than Hulk Hogan's during his peak in the 1980's.

- Kizarny is already off to a bad start with the company, and there is heat on John Laurinaitis due to him backing him. Kizarny and MVP were booked on recent house shows, with MVP dominating the matches, and then losing via a fluke to keep his "loser" gimmick alive.

- MVP has been told that his "loser" gimmick will result in a face turn for him. MVP is accepting of this, because due to the gimmick, he is taking less physical risks, and it is protecting his body.

- There has been a definite crackdown of marijuana usage within the company, which is not making many of the performers happy. The belief is that the drug testing is "serious", but the performers think management knows many people are drinking heavily and that painkiller use is high. Drinking is fine by the policy and painkillers are fine with prescriptions, and the heavy marijuana users, who have been warned to cut back, are beginning to turn to drinking and painkiller again.

- Rumors out of Mexico are that that Dos Caras Jr. will start at the Royal Rumble. Of course, there have been many rumors regarding his signing and start date over the last few months.

you have to be on drugs, weed or booze to work for vince, or to watch his crappy product

Surely this "crackdown" is setting the stage for either RVD to be re-signed, or showing up for a one-time deal.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. I mean they should provide ACTUAL NUMBERS, for goodness sake, and provide an additional source! Nobody has sold more merchandise than Hogan (Cena is a close second at least); that's why he is HULK HOGAN! What about The Rock??? I think you need to switch that around and consider it as an error.

Considering the fact that Cena's stuff costs roughly twice what Hogan's did, it's no surprise he's making more money on it.

@ Sprite

day in, day out, every time you comment, you're a loser troll... why go to 411 movies & wrestling if your so unhappy?

A DX book?

Chapter 1: In 1997 we were cutting edge.

Chapter 2: In 2007 we were a caricature of a caricature and a complete self-parody. The more reunions we have the more pathetic we look.

I like Shawn. I like Hunter. DX is a joke.

LEAVE THE MEMORIES ALOOOOOONE!

Hard to imagine Cena is selling more merch than Hogan did in the 80's. Meltz is getting this info from the WWE who is spinning it due to them being angry at Hogan.

kizarny's debut was less than stellar but its no reason to count him out just yet. i mean hell, i can think of at least 5 upper mid card/main eventers that have NEVER had a good match and they're doing just fine. plus i think kizarny's character is going to be a big merchandise seller. i hope they stick with him and see where this character takes him. btw, does anyone else think he looks like a strange mash up of jeff hardy and droz?

Posted By: hellboysetsfire (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 12:42 AM

They weren't even cutting edge in 1997, they were a generic version of the real deal over in WCW, the nWo.

A book over DX? It can't be more than 20 pages.

Kizarny could be a good mid carder, but WHY is he a face? The character is a natural heel. He'll get "Die Rocky Die" chants the way he's set up currently.

Marijuana is safer and less adictive than alchohol and painkillers. Why should people who make a choice to be safer be singled out and looked down on. If some wrestlers are going back to drinking and painpills that is bad news. Weed is smarter and safer.

its weird how most companies if they catch ya drinking too much or doing drugs they just fire you , and Vince just doesnt seem to really do anything from the looks of it. there are even some companies that look for you on myspace or facebook for incrminating pics there

uh, but i thought that Cena sucked and no one liked him...

...unless the cena haters are just full of shit.

as for the marijuana crackdown...technically, it is an illegal drug. i don't personally think it should be, but should be regulated exactly like cigarettes and alcohol.

but i am not an RVD cockswiggling fan boy, so i don't expect my opinion to go over well anyway.

All Cena haters are more than willing to admit the fact that his merchandise sells well because the kids still love the guy.

Nice try though. Gotta jump on that bandwagon, eh? First it was cool to love Cena. Then it was cool to hate Cena. Now it must be cool to hate those that hate Cena.

There needs to be a cribsheet for what's in style so that you can be the one IWC guy that's cooler than all the other IWC guys.

A DX book? How full of lies is this book going to be? If the book is 100% true, it would make for an interesting book - like Bret Hart's. However, Shawn Michaels and Hunter Hearst Helmsley are two of the biggest liars and prima donnas in recent wrestling history.

Posted By: Puff (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 02:14 AM

The original title of the book was DX: We screw more people than Jenna Jameson.

haha. Yeah that would be SWEET. The crazy/druken/drugged stories from the road would be GREAT.

I hope they tell some Clique stories in the DX book. Afterall, wasn't it the Clique that partly led to DX?

Here come the HHH/Shawn haters.......

"They ripped off the NWO, they hold everyone back....blah, blah, blah.

DX was a HUGE part of the "Attitude Era's" Origins. Sure they weren't there the whole time during the glory days of it because of Shawn's back injury, but they were a HUGE part in laying the ground work for all the greatness to come. Not to mention the Triple H led version of DX was still HUGE in '98 when the WWF got GREAT.

You could argue that without DX there would have been no "Attitude Era".

MVP as a face? Actually, that could work. The crowd was starting to cheer him in that match with Kizarny. They have him losing so much lately, and people will go for the underdog. I love the work he did as a heel though, so I hope they don't make him boring.

As for DX, yeah it was sort of an NWO ripoff, but you can't blame WWF for going that route. I wonder if the book will give all the credit to HHH and Shawn though, which is total BS. HHH was NOTHING without Chyna in those days, even if he has gone on to bigger things.

The New Age Outlaws were an important part. I remember when that tag team started, and it wasn't long before they formed DX. Waltman coming over was probably the peak of the whole DX thing, and I consider HHH and Shawn a bastardized version of DX. It makes money though.

If they are honest about DX, it could be an interesting book. But, we know how Vince likes to rewrite wrestling history. If he could get people to believe he went back in time and created professional wrestling, he would do it. I bet a bunch of people around here would believe him too.

I don't doubt Cena sells a lot of merchandise. You see a lot of kids wearing the AWA ripoff Cena shirt. Yeah, I know WWE owns the logo and can do what they want, but it's still a bunch of crap.

"uh, but i thought that Cena sucked and no one liked him..."

The kids love him and the kids are WWE's main demographic now so it makes perfect sense.

I agree with the heat on Laurinaiti. Why the hell push Kizarny's crap gimmick when you can better spend the resources on the re-signing of RVD.

Posted By: Metalingus (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 04:15 AM

Yea, that's what we'll cheer for. A loveable loser who finally wins a match: MVP.

Posted By: qwerty (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 04:18 AM

Graves9, I read your comments and you couldn't be more right, buddy! WWE seems to always maneuver things, at the spur of the moment, to suit their own purpose. Hogan is no exception. Don't forget too that Hogan had almost put McMahon out of business, when Hogan was in WCW. That is why I always here in WWE that ???Steve Austin??? is the biggest name in the history of the business. Hogan, nor The Rock, can ever be equalled.

Posted By: DoubleADaGreat (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 06:23 AM

MVP could be a great babyface. There's enormous potential there. The man can talk, he can wrestle and deep down and he's entertaining. I'd like to see MVP turn face. I think it would be one of the smartest moves WWE has made all year. MVP has got the charisma to be a great babyface. He has the talent. I'm down for it.

RVD doesn't want to come back, I don't see why people don't understand this.

And good for Cena, he does a lot of great work outside of wrestling. Him selling assloads of merch is good for the business as a whole. Surprise that he's surpassed Hogan's numbers, I wonder how close he was to Austin's.

Dude, they're wrestlers. They're not good people. If every wrestler who did something illegal got arrested, we'd have to watch C.M. Punk wrestle himself for two hours every Monday.

John Cena's numbers are bigger than Hulk's? What a ridiculous statement. Hulk had one shirt HULKAMANIA, maybe two if they ever sold the yellow one and the red one at the same time. Cena has like a bazillion shirts coming out each month. How can you compare the two.

Posted By: T-Phunk (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 10:27 AM

Hopefully with the 'E crackin' down on Mary Jane users this will end the "rumors" of RVD returning...The man should just smoke up in his Battle Creek casa with all of his crippled original ECW buds.

Posted By: Screw RVD (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 10:35 AM

I'm just going to assume the Hulk numbers aren't adjusted for inflation. There's no way in heck that Hogan is in prime didn't sell as much merchandise as Cena in 2008.

Even Austin making more money ten years ago, likely not adjusted for inflation, is pretty amazing. Gots to love the WWE spin on Cena. He's like Hogan, we swear!

1) How does a rookie jobbing to an established character, who is about to change disposition and get a push being in heat? They are testing a run between the two, that is all.

2) Marijuana is not legal, Hawkeye. Plain and simple. If we were forced to watch CM Punk wrestle himself for two hours, then maybe the "E" would be forced to hire workers that didn't involve themselves in criminal activity.

Illegal activities should be punished. That's why we have laws. That's why those laws are enforced. That's why we don't live in a temporary anarchy. (Sadly, anarchy would always be temporary. It's just human nature)

So, suck it up, put down the doobie, and watch REAL athletes.

3) The History of DX: As told the 1000th time. Watch the DVD. You people are too stupid to read, anyway. Hell, judging by these comment boards alone, I am surprised you remember to breathe. Capitalization and punctuation are actually standard when typing something.

RVD is a burnout, a waste of time and money. He was flexible, but didn't have an ounce of wrestling ability.

You should recognize this when he, himself, states "I don't know what I'm doing in there. I just do a spot and point at myself. It got me over."

Talentless hack.

I wish they would let me register so Retards would quit posing as me..

I think John Cena is oversaturated as much as the next guy, and while a flawed wrestler is certainly not as bad as he's made out to be. Lastly, his character sucks balls. He needs to turn heel, but Vince doesn't have the "grapefruits" they could AT LEAST let him rap again..

The DX Book isn't gonna be an Autobiography.. It's gonna be aimed at their fanbase.

Kids/Idiots.

Part of me doesn't want to see MVP's losing streak gimmick extend this long, but if it goes to Wrestlemania, and if there's another MITB match, I say he'd be a huge favorite to win it, and it'd be a big moment. The build writes itself. In fact, I think the only other person in a position to win it this year would be Shelton Benjamin, because he's been in so many and WWE finally seems ready to push him to the next level (and he seems ready to step up). The build for that writes itself, as well.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't one or the other.

I think i'll get it after all.

I changed my mind , ok?

Don't jump on me.

Posted By: Ron Mexico (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 12:03 PM

When Hogan was at his peak shirts cost less than $10, posters about $3 and there were less than a dozen different official Hogan items in a given year. WWE is now a major corporation with many many more merchandising outlets, bigger international sales and probably offers a minimum 50 Cena items in a given year ($20 a t-shirt).

It's easy to see how Cena could outsell Hogan as his variety of merchandise is most likely in more countries and more stores overall...plus WWE has the net to sell things which they didn't have for much of Hogan's heydey.

It doesn't mean Cena has more fans, just that his fans have an easier time finding and buying everything they have out of him.

Posted By: RDR (Guest)  on January 05, 2009 at 12:07 PM

Is there also heat on Vince McMahon for hiring Cena because Cena is boring to a lot of people here in the ICW and when he gets booed on tv and at ppvs? Is there heat on Triple H for backing Batista after all his muscle tears and taking time off?

UNLESS you live in one of the 11 states that allow the use of it for medicinal purposes.

Also, no charges can be brought against you for a dirty urine test unless you are on probation/parole of some sort. You can only be charged for being under the influence if you fail a sobriety test.

OH NO, a DX book, great! yeah right! the nWo rip off's suck. What we need is a great dvd that includes the nWo history and please no WWE footage because Vince did a great job burying them just like he did to the best wrestler ever Bret Hart. In short DX sucks and anyone who says Im a hater, I never like DX because the nWo was the real deal and way better than DX. I thought DX was stupid and boring just like their suppose new book.
