WWE Lays Off Approximately 10 Percent of Their Staff
Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.08.2009

World Wrestling Entertainment has reportedly laid off a number of staff from the office at Titan Tower in Stamford, CT. While the positions that were laid off are not currently known, sources say that personnel from the television department, WWE.com and office area of the company were let go. These cuts are said to reflect 10% of the staff, and more layoffs are said to take place tomorrow.

Also, WWE released ECW referee Keenan Quinn this week. When the company made the decision to go with the official working a loop on a rotation, Keenan was sent down to Florida Championship Wrestling.

"Dam.Looks like the "E" is hurtin."

WWE is very profitable and want to make sure it stays that way as many companies are losing money and are in heavy debt.

In the withering economy, who would go pay actual money to go see wwe product. ha. I went to wrestlemania in Detroit a couple years ago and realized that even though it was cool to be there, wrestling had passed me by. I was hoping for something along the lines of Wmania in 98-01, and I got WWE's new kiddy product featuring Hornswoggle and Donald Trump. Thats why the company is suffering, sometimes you need to stick with the formula working already.

"TNA's fax machine will be spitting out tons of resumes tomorrow."

Uuuuh yeah...Who says TNA can even afford a fax machine or a phone line to support it at this point???

Please, if the E is cutting 10%, TNA will be lucky to see the end of next week.

Maybe this is some kind of crazy strategy by Vince. He fires a bunch of people and then TNA goes bankrupt hiring them all... hmmm.

You do realize that most of WrestleMania XV (1999) and WrestleMania 2000 sucked and were heavily criticized?

So basically, you would have rather rolled the dice with a 50-50 shot of seeing a good WM during it's peak (1998-2001 as you claim) than attend WM in Detroit which was actually pretty decent during an alleged downturn for the business?

Laying off workers is a nice way of saying we're going to fire you soon.

WRONG.

TNA had a great year in 2008, they're currently signing new talent, not firing people.

Way to put more people in economic hardship WWE.

I agree, get rid of Styles. Send ol' Howard The Duck lips quacking, er packing. Even before he was relegated to being responsible for the updating of WWE.com, the section for WWE Classics On Demand has been somewhat neglected. He has not improved it much at all.

Get rid of Bam Neely, Kevin Thorn, Dolph Ziggler, Hardcore Holly, Paul Burchill, Katie Lee, whatshername who hangs out with Regal, Jamie Noble.

Posted By: theoncomingstorm (Guest)  on January 08, 2009 at 05:13 PM

the wwe is very priofitable but in order to stay that way they have to lay off people in bad economic times.

tna is half the size of wwe so it is a joke for the iwc "kids" to say that tna will be hiring people.

if tna was not being funded by panda energy, it would be in real jeopardy of downsizing or folding especially in this bad economy.

I think DJ Gabriel, Alicia Fox, and Charlie Haas are safe. Wow. I just said that Charlie Haas should be safe. Hot damn! Feels good to say.

Anyways, free Gregory Helms please. I know he just got back, but i'd like to see him in Ring of Honor.

"WWE wanna cut money? I suggest you get rid of that overpriced piece of shit magazine nobody reads"

I still see it in pretty much every grocery store and department store that sells magazines, so someone is obviously buying it. If its in the store, then WWE already made money by selling it to them, so they're in good shape on that front.

If you mean WWE Kids, that one has actually increased circulation from its first issue, starting at approx. 75,000 and now up around 100,000. VERY impressive considering the economy and the state of print media in this day and age.

I guess its only a matter of time before some of the talent is wished well in their future endeavors. I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say... Ricky Ortiz, Manu, Jamie Noble, D'Lo Brown, Hawkins & Ryder, Jimmy Yang, Eve, Ryan Braddock, Victoria, and Gavin Spears will be given pink slips in the coming days. And I left off Scotty Goldman because I love me some Cabanarama, but odds are he'll be right along with the rest of them. Making me a sad panda.

leave it to the iwc "kids" to blame wwe for these layoffs.

IT IS THE BAD ECONOMY. wwe wants to stay profitable so they need to layoff people just like many companies in society.

Phase 2 of this plan is to hire EVERY son of a WWF star from the 80s, so they can really get this Legacy thing rolling... By this time next month, Randy Orton will be leading an ARMY of second-generation superstars! Hey, what's Road Warrior Animal's football star kid up to? Does Ken Patera have any kids, or did the steroids wreck that for him? I know Roddy Piper has a whole bunch of kids; maybe they can be the opposing faction to the Legacy! It'll be like Braveheart!! I need to lie down for a while...

Dude when I first heard the news from one of my co-workers I thought we were all going to get laid but then I later found out it was actually laid-off. This sucks man, I was discussing with some of my other newly unemployed friends that we should like form our own wrestling promotion and put Vince out of business. I saw that Greg Valentine is available for bookings and I met Zack Gowen backstage at a Juggalo Wrestling Show (wow glad Vince didn't know I was there, or did he?) and I could find his phone number which I wrote on some chicks arm (she was passed out) I hope she hasn't showered since then or we are up $#%creek without a paddle. My cousins band plays at this bowling alley and we could probably have shows there and Zack Gowen could do this big shoot promo on Vince and we can have it on TV and stuff.

the economy will hopefully get better after obama gets into office.

on the news, he said that he wants to pass a 750 billion dollar bill in order to help get the usa out of this economic crisis.

obama has not even taken office yet but he is showing that he is a man of taking proactive action to combat a crisis.

THE MCMAHONS OWN WWE. THEY ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

BY THE WAY VINCE MCMAHON GOT 45 MILLION LAST YEAR IN DIVIDENDS.

HOW MUCH DID YOU EARN LAST YEAR AT BURGER KING?

Of course. 2 or 3 weeks ago.

It wasn't his fault.

it is amazing how the iwc know nothings blame wwe for laying off people when every company in the usa is doing the same thing due to the fact that the economy is in horrendous shape.

Posted By: ted (Guest)  on January 08, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Hahahahaha, did I strike a nerve with you, 3384?? :D

Ha.

Okay, so I make a snide little remark about your golden penised Vince McMahon. I'm not a TNA or ROH fan, but come on, with every new wrinkle in his scrotum, the E suffers. Deep down inside, my friend, you know.

Oh, and I was thinking just earlier today about how passive-aggressive the typical wrestling fan is. The arena's aren't exactly filled with Prags and Meehan, nor Smalls or Randles. Forget rednecks (many whom kept watching but stopped caring with the exodus of Sir Austin), or even the kids (who love Carlito's pubic head) - 87% of the wrestling kingdom are sociopaths. Prove me wrong, as the man used to say.

Still, I'm down the Rumble. Hell yeah. That's one PPV I never miss.

And I was joking about releasing the McMahons, retard. Sort of.

Posted By: Christopher Warrior (Guest)  on January 08, 2009 at 10:51 PM

Yeah I tend to agree Christopher Warrior there -- a lot of wrestling fans have issues. It was really bad during the WCW vs WWF years too mind you, but after that it really calmed down. It's clearly back though and I've often wondered if it's return coincided with the WWE going public. I wonder how many fans are holding WWE stock and are I would guess that they are probably among their staunchest defenders.

Posted By: nwa88 (Guest)  on January 08, 2009 at 11:12 PM

This is what happens when your business deals purely with money and money alone without offering any actual service to the people. The E and the entire country needed this. Hoping it hits Hollywood in a big way soon. People want GOOD THINGS to spend their money/attention on, not crap they're forced to buy because its the only game in town . .
