ROH House Show Results – Edison, New Jersey: 01.17.09
Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.18.2009

Credit: The ROH Message Board

Pre-Show:

a. Alex Payne & Red Ninja defeated Ernie Osiris & "Beautiful" Bobby Shields - Seagull got there after the pre-show, so he got this result from someone near by, hence the "someone else".

b. Andy "Right Leg" Ridge vs. Brandon Day - Unsure of winner

c. Bobby Dempsey vs. Orange Cassidy - Unsure of winner, though one would think Dempsey.

MAIN SHOW:

1. Brent Albright defeated Rhett Titus - Albright wins with the half nelson suplex.

2. Delirious defeated The Necro Butcher, Damien Wayne, & Sean Denny in a Four Corner Survival - Delirious wins with the Shadows over Hell on Sean Denny

- Kyle Durden is now in the ring to interview Austin Aries. Aries says the fans owe him an apology for turning their backs on him. He had hoped he'd have some closure after making Jacobs say I Quit, but that didn't come. Says that the crowd always cheered no matter who was being hit with chairs. Says that Tyler Black is nothing more than the flavor of the month, and that the fans will turn on Black just like they turned on him. He says he's done wrestling for us, for the company, for DVD sales, for snowflakes. He's now only wrestling for himself. He says he is NOT going to cash in his title shot at a "B Show" like tonight. He then knocks out Kyle Durden. Tyler Black comes out and says if Aries doesn't want the title shot, he'll take it. Black tries to attack Aries, but Jacobs jumps Black from behind. Jay Briscoe comes out to make the save...and challenges Aries and Jacobs to a three way match, which is on now. Aries and Jacobs seem to be working together...

3. Jay Briscoe defeated Austin Aries & Jimmy Jacobs in a 3 Way Match - Jay wins with a roll up on Jacobs after he makes Jacobs accidentally hit Aries with the spear. Jacobs and Aries never really came to blows during the match, but were not "together" either. They pushed each other back and forth, but Seagull described it as similar to the Dudley's pushing each other, psyching each other up. After the match, Jacobs spits his gum at Aries, who picks it up off the ground and chews it.

- Nigel McGuinness vs. Tyler Black for the ROH World Title is official for tonight.

- Nana comes out and takes his belt off, offering to be a lumberjack! He's escorted out, the Lumberjack Strap Match is up next!

4. Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards defeated Roderick Strong & Erik Stevens in a Lumberjack Strap Match - Edwards hit Stevens with a chair behind the refs back. Lumberjacks went after everyone, no heel or face distinguished in that.

-INTERMISSION-

- Ernie Osiris is out walking through the crowd, asking for money, during intermission.

- Crowd is estimated in the 600 range. He said it isn't as packed as last time in Edison.

5. Grizzly Redwood vs. Chris Escobar went to a No Contest - Bison Smith came in and destroyed them both.

6. Jerry Lynn defeated Bryan Danielson - Lynn wins cleanly with the Cradle Piledriver! After the match Danielson teases not shaking hands, but eventually does.

- During the match, Nigel tried to walk out of the match, Danielson came out and stopped him and said he'd kill him where they stood...match continues!

- Later on...Jacobs attacked Tyler, Lynn came out and attacked Nigel, then Aries, Strong, Stevens, Albright, American Wolves, and Jay Briscoe were all out brawling. Danielson came out and ordered everyone to the back saying that the match was undecided, and for the World Title. Jacobs attacked Danielson, and the big brawl started again. Jay and Albright both did ???? off the top rope. Danielson did a dive into the crowd and the brawl moved into the crowd. Everyone brawled to the back. Sinclair and Cary conferred...and the match MUST CONTINUE!

7. Nigel McGuinness and Tyler Black go to a time limit draw! - Tyler hit the superkick while Nigel was on his knee just like last night, and as he was crawling over for the pin, the bell rang for the time limit. Seagull timed it and said it was only about 45 minutes...so could be a 45 minute time limit. Tyler asked for five more minutes, Nigel said no way, and headed to the back, ending the show!

sounds like an overbooked mess. NOT what i was expecting from ROH. i'll keep further thoughts to myself, and just close by saying this doesn't look good for the little indy that could.

We all do but ROH is no where enar as bad as people have whined about it being it still has the ebst wrestling in the world
and we got a match that went atleast 45 minutes tonight they should have just done the the hour broadway though
the only problem I ahve with this show is Aries actually calling a show a B show

I call that we'll have a rematch from Escalation with Aries vs. Black vs. Nigel, only with the ROH Title actually being on the line this time.

Funniest comment on the ROH board was from the guy who said it was too bad Cary went behind the curtains immediately after the show. If he hadn't the guy would have taken the front row tickets he'd bought for the May ROH show and told Cary to stick them up Pearce's a*s. lol

I'm torn on this one. Part of me love the ol ECW booked on the fly vibe I'm getting from this show. The other part of my sees and bait and switch overbooked main event. The only thing I can say that I like for sure is Danielson giving everyone the fucking business when they try to screw with the matches. It's good character continuity and something I'd welcome on more shows. Will have to see a full review of this show before I pass judgement as the undercard sounds pretty weak on paper.

people are saying the maine vent was aweosme the crowd was electric during it
and it was a great 60 minute match
most people that are this ahrd on ROH have never watched it to begin with
hell even the people that watch it on the boards are to hard on it we don't have 3 5 star matches on every show so it sucks
if they want bad wrestling they can turn on a tv on monday friday
hell most of the time tuesday and thursday nights to

at its worst Ring Of honor shows are still better than some of WWE and TNA's best
and if anyones seen my past comments I love TNA

"sounds like an overbooked mess. NOT what i was expecting from ROH."

If I'd never seen ECW and only read results/recaps/reviews etc. I'd probably think ALL of their run ins were overbooked messes, too. But if you're seen ECW, you'd know that's not true.

So maybe it sounds like an overbooked mess but you could be missing something entirely. Something that you could pick up while watching it on DVD that would change your view of it all.

I like how the show was really fun live and every comment is from people who weren't actually there.

Glad I stayed home. I'm mailing my unused front row ticket for tonights show back to Cary Silken. I expect more from ROH. The time and money spent on ROH can't describe my dedication. THAT is why fans are pissed. We've had and seen the GREAT ROH. This is not it. Unless they are purposely pissing fans off to lead to the Code of Honor returning or a Commissioner, I smell WCW 2001. If ROH thinks casual fans will like the new version and support they are wrong. Casual fans don't buy every DVD released every month. The current ROH fanbase does. The HONOR in ROH needs to comeback. It's been missing for awhile, and it's more noticable then ever.

STILL not a house show. Please, Larry, don't do it just to spite us. "ROH Results"... that's all. Please.

Oh, this is the promotion that doesn't have a television contract right? This is the promotion that used to have several great wrestlers until they decided to go to TNA for some actual money?

Wow, if this is an example of what ROH's doing right now, I feel sorry for them.

600 fanboys huh? Any other promotion that would be a bigass ol' EPIC FAIL.

So what's the big deal about these guys again?

To clear up the results of the first few curtain jerk matches (as if anyone cares) It was Alex "sugarfoot" Payne and PINK Ninja. And the winners of the other 2 matches were "right leg" Ridge, and yes, Bobby Dempsey.

Great time last night...Crowd was hot and Nigel/Black ruled.

I watch ROH and do support good wrestling, but from what I gathered is that they try to hard to be the old ECW.

I hope they can get their own identity this year and succeed.

My uncle was at the show and he said it was actually a very good show, he said the three-way, Danielson/Lynn, and Black/McGuinness were allll very good matches - AND thats coming from someone who WAS THERE and knows wtf they're talking about mmmmmmkay?

One thing is certain, ROH fans can't spell!

stupid ass comments, why does every hater sound like an idiot when they criticize roh? There is an intelligent way to go about it but on 411 it does not happen.

Posted By: Guest#6817 (Guest)  on January 18, 2009 at 12:17 PM

ROH sucks worse than TNA. And that's saying something.

No better than your local indy promotion performing for burgers from the concession stand. It'll be only a matter of time before the best (if you could call them that) go knocking on TNA's or Japan's door looking for an actual paycheck.

Sooner or later it'll be that way.

Haha, I love people complaining about HONOR, like this promotion was real or something. It's sports entertainment at the end of the day, get the fuck over yourselves, it's a GIMMICK. IT'S ALL A DAMN GIMMICK. If you don't like it, then go watch something else. Oh wait, what else is there? TNA? WWE? Watch those shows and then you'll see even if ROH has changed over the last month or so, it's still giving us better shows than those two companies (for the most part). Jesus Christ, sometimes I hate wrestling fans. I actually commend Pearce for trying to go old school, it's just too bad the fans can't get back into "Lets go to a wrestling show to cheer and boo people" instead of getting your pen and paper ready to take a 1/4* off every time someone does a run in or interference. Get-the-fuck-over-yourselves.

7. Nigel McGuinness and Tyler Black go to a time limit draw!

=O Epic! The rest of the show sounds ok I guess. Personally I think PWG's The Gentle Art of Making Enemies was a better card, but then again they didn't have an epic main event. *shrugs*

Also, it's NOT A DAMN HOUSE SHOW! Would it seriously kill you to head over to ROHWrestling.com and find out the shows name? Jesus.

Posted By: Whoblehwah (Guest)  on January 18, 2009 at 02:04 PM

Again, I'll reserve judgment until I see the DVD. Seriously, Tyler and Nigel go to a time-limit draw?? What's to complain about?? I don't see anything but awesome there, even WITH the run-ins.

Posted By: KX (Guest)  on January 18, 2009 at 03:58 PM

Oh, and about the run-ins, even though they were during a match, it doesn't sound like anything different from when Gabe was going crazy with booking the clusterfuck dive-fests there for a while.

the 46 people in attendence were really into it ..... until they figured out mickey rourke wasnt there

Time for CHIKARA and PWG to move up 1 spot in the "Top independent companies" list.

Bison Smith in ROH!? Thats going to be interesting..

I just hate how ROH changes the card..... while they're AT THE SHOW! This is a bad way to pull swerves on people!
