- The documentary, Operation Filmmaker, which features an Iraqi film student who finds an ally in Dwayne Johnson as he films Doom, was released this week. Here is the synopsis:
In the wake of "Operation Iraqi Freedom," American actor Liev Schreiber had an idealistic notion: to rescue an Iraqi film student from the rubble of his country and bring him to the West to intern on a Hollywood movie (Everything Is Illuminated). It promised to be a heartwarming tale, a small victory out of the troubled mission of the U.S. war in Iraq. But as in the war itself, "good" intentions yielded unintended consequences, and even this operation doesn't go according to plan. Director Nina Davenport becomes personally involved in Schreiber's charitable effort, and soon finds herself embroiled in a complex moral quagmire and all-consuming power struggle between filmmaker and subject. Operation Filmmaker is an engaging, sometimes comical political parable, taking the viewer on a riveting ride from Baghdad to Hollywood."
- The Mainichi Daily News had the following on the end of Japanese wrestling on the Nippon Television Network:
Bell rings on long-running pro wrestling TV show
A long-running professional wrestling TV show that started in 1954 will end, its broadcaster said.
Nippon Television Network (NTV) announced that it will stop broadcasting "Pro Wrestling Noah" at the end of March.
The wrestling program started in February 1954, the year after the network started broadcasting, and played an important role in the spread of television in Japan. Viewer ratings peaked at 64 percent in 1963 for a match between famous local wrestler Rikidozan and the Destroyer from America, according to Video Research.
However, the show's viewer ratings dropped to around 2 percent after its airtime was moved to late at night in the spring of 1990 due to its declining popularity.
NTV plans to continue to broadcast the show on its cable television channel "Nittele G+.
