Jim Ross Speaks On The Rock, WrestleMania Ticket Sales, More
Posted by Ashish on 02.28.2009

Jim Ross has a new blog entry up. Highlights are below.

On The Rock: The Rock had been around the wrestling biz his entire life. From day one since he arrived on this planet, Dwayne Johnson had been surrounded by wrestling. I think his love of the business will always be with him but he had a wonderful opportunity to move into films, earn a great living, maintain his physical health, but most importantly move into a vocation that had interested him for years. Even though Dwayne Johnson has likely wrestled his last match I would not bet against seeing the "Great One" appear at a WWE function before all is said and done sometime in the future. On this one, I certainly feel that the old wrestling cliché of never say never is applicable. No fan, no one in the wrestling business, and no one but the man himself can say conclusively that wrestling fans will never see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at a wrestling event again.

On WrestleMania ticket sales: With the economy as shaky as it is these days, I have to admit that I was worried about Wrestlemania selling out Reliant Stadium in Houston especially since Houston had been hit so hard by Mother Nature and the oil and gas market's ills of which the city of Houston is so dependent. Not only is WM25 well on its way to being a sell out but less than 900 tickets remain for the WWE's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday night April 4 from the Toyota Center. I truly believe that the HOF Ceremony is the most special night of the year and I wholeheartedly encourage all that can to get their tickets and join us for this historic night that can never be replicated.

On Couture vs.Nogueira: Apparently Couture vs. Nogueira will happen in UFC likely in August, UFC 101, as both men have now verbally agreed to the fight. Couture will be making a film soon starring Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, and Jet Li and needs the time after the film to properly prepare for the anticipated heavyweight bout with the tough Brazilian. UFC has to be calculating and smart with Couture as Randy doesn't have that many fights left in him as the former Oklahoma State star is now in his mid 40's. I love Couture's fighting spirit and his amazingly sound fundamental skills and will not miss any more of his fights on pay per view which I can't see going much past 2010. One more time against Brock Lesnar in a "retirement" scenario would not surprise me and would guarantee a helluva number of pay per view buys. Bottom line is that UFC is in the process of building up their heavyweight division which should be fun to watch evolve.

Check out the full blog entry here.

WM25 on its way to being a sellout?? Im sorry but I have a really hard time believing that. It has nothing to do with the product, just that with the economy its not gonna happen.
That the Hall of Fame ceremony isnt sold out yet is a suprise though. Seems to be one of the better in recent years.

Which of your "holes" has lots of respect for The Rock?

What is selling out to you? Did The Rock ever say that he'd wrestle until he was gray? Did he ever promise not to leave wrestling? No, he didn't. He's always wanted to be in films. Are you going to begrudge a human being for following their passion in life? Do you know how many wrestlers would love to have a successful career outside of wrestling where they don't need to put their bodies on the line?

The bottom line is that The Rock went out on top. He had his cake and now he's eating it. He gave me wonderful memories for about 5-6 years and I'll always be grateful for that.

Oh, and please stop marking out about Cena. Rock has proven time and again that if he makes one appearance fans will turn against other faces in favor of The Rock. Rocky would bury Cena in one promo alone.

Besides, Cena still can't get much more than half the crowd in any given arena to cheer for him. That's hardly a People's Champion. Batista is more a People's Champion than John Cena. Heck, even RANDY ORTON is getting bigger pops right now and he's the company's top heel.

He might be able to get there but Cena has a looooong way to go before he ever challenges Rock for that title.

How did he sell out? He has nothing else to prove in the wrestling business, so why not move on to bigger and better things? I'm sure if you had a better offer you leave whatever you was doing and take it to. Cena is just a white wannabe Rock nothing more.

no all he did wasmove into an industry not dominated by HUNTARD the RETARD

Well, there's a simple solution to a crappy economy -- price the tickets lower. This also works for a bad card, but if you get both, like last year, you have to paper the house. (Wait, the card was decent, it was the *building* that sucked so badly. Or so Mayor Buddy keeps telling us.)

"cena is the new peoples champ"

Everybody cheered The Rock when he came out. Only teenage girls and boys cheer Cena. Can't call him people's champ if all the ppl don't like him. He's more like the Michael Jackson of wrestling.

Ummmm...actually the Rock did say that. I remember a promo where he said he'd come down the People's Aisle with a walker, get in the People's Ring and say "J-j-j-j-just bring it!"

Nope. That was the RAW promo prior to King of the Ring 2002. The Rock said he'd bleed WWE for all of his life. That doesn't mean he's going to continue to wrestle forever and ever.

Hell, he delivered that promo at a time when fans already knew Rock would only be around from a few dates a year if that.

That means that The Rock is never going to deny his WWE roots. Since he was at the Hall of Fame last year I'd say he's held true to his word so far.

People saying The Rock sold out is blind, deaf and dumb. Who was came back ahead of time when Austin just quit and left the company for 9 months. The Rock was there thats who. During that he became the first ever 7 time WWE Champion and still put over Brock Lesnar and Summerslam.

After Austin came back for a big send of the year there after, did people ever say he was sell out. No. They cheered him on and forgot all about how he left, but when he return he had the match with Eric Bishoff at No Way Out and with The Rock and WM XIX.

The next month The Rock put over Goldberg and The Rock should have retired after that, but when the WWE was busy pushing Orton as a top carder. The Orton vs Foley match was pushed back till Backlash, cuz of the fear Orton was still to green. Instead a tag match was put in place, who came out of retirement to battle one more match at WM XX to help put Orton on the map. The Rock thats who. The summer after that Orton won the WHC.

For all of those who say The Rock sold out, heres a line made famous by the great one himself.

KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!

For the love of all that is right WWE, do NOT put Koslov over on Raw..HBK vs. UT needs to be at a WM and there's no better stage then the 25th since neither guy will probably make it to 30
