411's ECW on Sci-FI Report 03.24.09
Posted by Rob McNew on 03.24.2009
Carlito takes on John Morrison, Dreamer and Bourne take on Kidd and Swagger, and the triumphant return of the VIP Lounge...Also lots and lots of recap packages.
-Since I was unable to recap Raw last night due to be in attendance in Kansas City live I didn't want you all to go a full two weeks without me. So when Michael Bauer was unable to cover ECW tonight I jumped at the opportunity to recap a show I actually attended live. Divas night was apparently scrapped (thank god) so without further adieu…
-Taped from Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO
-Hosted by Todd Grisham & Matt Striker
John Morrison (w. Nikki Bella & The Miz) vs. Carlito (w. Brie Bella & Primo)
We get a recap package of last week's Dirt Sheet where the Bella Twins exploded, and the Tag Title Unification match for Wrestlemania was made official. Morrison opens up by whipping Carlito into the corner, and Carlito fires back with a right hand and bodyslam. Morrison crotches Carlito on the top and goes for a superplex but it is blocked. Morrison fires back with a spin kick which sends Carlito to the floor as we head to commercial. Back from break and Carlito counters out of a headlock, and delivers a backdrop. Back elbow connects for Carlito, and he follows with a springboard elbow for two. Carlito gets a whip to the corner, and Morrison hits a backbreaker and side Russian legsweep for two. Carlito hits the ropes and delivers a swinging neckbreaker for two. Morrison ducks a springboard from Carlito and goes for the moonlight drive, which is countered by Carlito into a back stabber attempt. Morrison counters of that, but Carlito connects with a spinebuster. Miz distracts the official preventing the count, and Morrison rolls to the floor. Morrison decides to bail, but that ain't gonna go down like that playa. Teddy Long comes out to let them know that the unified tag title match is now a get everyone a payday lumberjack match. Teddy brings out the lumberjacks who send Morrison back to the ring. Striker gives us a Wayne Bloom and Mike Enos reference before realizing that its actually Hawkins and Ryder. Please god get this man on Raw. Morrison comes back in and ducks a clothesline, and a springboard spin kick attempt is ducked by Carlito. Both men connect with clotheslines for a double knockout. Back to their feet Morrison goes for a back suplex, but Carlito counters into a sunset flip. Morrison flips out of that and goes for a spin kick, but Carlito counters into a roll up for two. Morrison hits the ropes and gets dropkicked to the floor where he gets fired back in by the lumberjacks. That allows Carlito to hit the back stabber which finishes at 10:16. Any combination of these guys is solid gold, and the match at Wrestlemania if given proper time should be a match of the night sleeper. I don't like the lumberjack stip, but that's the way things are these days. Everyone has to get their pay day. Winner: Carlito (Pinfall-Back Stabber ***)
-Longtime WWE Ring Announcer Howard Finkel is announced as the final inductee in the 2009 Hall of Fame class. This was long overdue.
-Recap of Orton's assault and kiss to Stephanie on Raw last night
-Rundown of the Wrestlemania Card. HHH-Orton, Jericho-Piper/Snuka/Steamboat, HBK-Taker, Hardy-Hardy, Edge-Show-Cena, Diva Battle Royal, Miz/Morrison-Colons, & Mysterio-JBL
-Recap of John Cena on the Tonight Show last night
Jack Swagger & Tyson Kidd (w. Natalya) vs. Tommy Dreamer & Evan Bourne
Bourne and Kidd start things off, and they trade go behinds with Bourne getting the takedown. Kidd reaches the ropes to break, and then hits a spin kick to the stomach. Bourne comes back with a pair of dropkicks sending Kidd to the floor. Bourne heads out after him, but Kidd uses Nattie as a sheid and attacks sending Bourne inside. Bourne catches a kick and sweeps the leg before tagging Dreamer. Dreamer charges into a back elbow, but comes back to crotch Kidd on the top row and ties him up in the "The Tree of Joey Lawrence" per Striker. Also known as The Tree of Woe. Swagger tries to sneak up on Tommy, but gets a right hand. The ref gets tied up with Swagger allowing Bourne to come in and springboard off Tommy on all fours with a bit of poetry in motion to Kidd. That sends us to break. Back from commercial with Swagger in control of Dreamer. Swagger charges into a boot from Tommy, and he comes off the second rope for two. Tommy hits the ropes, but Kidd catches him and tries to hold him in crucifix position for Swagger to deliver a boot, but can't quite get the legs. Swagger delivers the boot anyway though, and then delivers a pair of elbows and a legdrop for two. Kidd tags back in and locks in a side headlock on Dreamer, and follows up with a legdrop for one. Kidd drops a knee and tags in Swagger who locks in a front facelock. Swagger whips Tommy to the corner, and locks in a neck vice. Swagger delivers a belly-to-belly for a two count, and goes back to the neck vice. Swagger continues the assault choking Tommy on the second rope. Swagger tries a charge into the corner, but misses and that allows Tommy to hit a neckbreaker. Swagger tags Kidd, and Dreamer makes the hot tag to Bourne who comes in with a hurracanrana. Spin kick connects to Kidd, and another sends Swagger to the floor. Bourne goes to the top, and fights off Kidd before delivering the Shooting Star Press to finish at 10:13. The parts with Tommy getting beatdown were pretty boring, but everything was decent enough. Winners: Tommy Dreamer & Evan Bourne (Bourne pins Kidd-Shooting Star Press **)
-All of the competitors in The Money in the Bank match (and Hornswoggle and Tony Atlas are there too) are in the VIP lounge. MVP goes over the rules to Money in the Bank to the three people left who don't know. MVP starts off with Christian, and says he thought we could go old school with the Peep Show since Christian is the ECW guy. Christian says everyone knows this will probably turn into a huge brawl and he didn't want his furniture to get ruined. Christian says he's gonna win Money in the Bank, and shockingly people take exception to that. Shelton says he's gonna win, and then asks MVP where the cheese and crackers and wine glasses as this is supposed to be a lounge. MVP reminds him that the US title is right around his waist. Shelton gets a Mad Dog 20/20 blast, and then tells MVP that this isn't even his furniture because his furniture is still in repo. Shelton says MVP would rather run off at the mouth than fight, and MVP reminds him that he wasn't running when he won the US Title on Smackdown. MVP again predicts he's gonna win. Punk interrupts to say he's the only one who's won Money in the Bank, and he cashed it in to win the title. Kofi interrupts and says last year has nothing to do with last year. Kofi says he only needs to climb a rung or two and then jump. Mark Henry chimes in and says Kofi will be made an example of just like everyone else. Henry says he's gonna win and no one will be able to stop him. Finlay says he can stop him with his shillelagh. MVP lets Kane get the last word, and he does so by setting off his pyro. Just to recap the promo…everyone predicts they're going to win. And thats all for this week.

Boring show, the commercials and endless recaps and 12 rounds trailers killed it for me

Bourne is just unreal, he deserves a title match at WrestleMania

two recaps packages are concidered "lots and lots of recap packages" nowadays Scott? Oh sorry I mean Rob, oh and for the record, in your raw reports, Mike Knox's finisher "Knox's Out" is NOT the roll of the damn dice, its basicly Alexy Shelly's shell shock, but you look like even more of a moron when theres another guy who does use the roll of the dice ON THE SAME SHOW in Cody Rhodes. trying to help, i guess.

It's a crime Bourne isn't wrestling at Mania 25...

This was an okay ECW show,it wasn't the best but it was better than last nights RAW. The recaps that show on ECW aren't played after each match over and over again like they do on RAW which really kills each one every time it is played again. ECW RULEZ!!!!!!!!

It used to be Brie who likes Miz & Morrison and Nikki who likes the Colons. Now they're reversing it? This isn't as bad as when they couldn't make up their minds about which leg Shawn Michales was hurt at Backlash 2008, but still.

"the tree of Joey Lawrence! The tree of woe!"
Matt Striker is the greatest announcer of all time.

Mark Henry is a waste of space. Evan Bourne NEEDS to be in the MITB match. SSP off the ladder to take out all the guys, leaving Christian or Punk to climb it would be amazing.

One of the Bellas has a tattoo. It's just under the waist line of the pants they wear. It's hot.
