411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 3.31.09
Posted by Michael Bauer on 03.31.2009
It's the next last stop to WrestleMania so we get... twice as many promo videos than matches?
Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.
We go straight to the opening video and then head to Todd Grisham and Matt Striker at ringside.
Christian and Finlay (with Hornswoggle) vs. Mark Henry and Kane (with Tony Atlas)
Christian gets a huge ovation from Dallas as we get another look at the briefcase hanging over the ring. And damn… Finlay gets just as big, if not a bigger, ovation. The bell rings as Christian starts with Kane. Christian punches away, but ducks under a boot. Kane though scoops up Christian for a body slam. Kane misses an elbow drop, but GOZZLES Christian and throws him into the corner. Christian dodges the charge and wrenches the arm to tag in Finlay. Finlay continues to work the arm, but Kane gains the advantage. Kane whips Finlay off the ropes, but Finlay kicks Kane in the chest. Finlay tags in Christian and he goes back to work on the arm of Kane. We go to commercial at 2:00.
Back at 5:45 as Kane nails Finlay with a clothesline in the corner and a huge uppercut. Mark Henry tagged in and he just clubs Finlay in the neck. Mark chokes Finlay with his boot and gets a two count. Kane tags in and they both stomp away. Kane with a snapmare and a dropkick for a two count. Kane locks in a chinlock, but Finlay elbows out until he is rammed into the corner. Mark Henry tagged in and he hits a huge powerslam. Finlay backed into the corner and he starts fighting back, but Henry gets a knee to the gut. Kane tagged in and he whips Finlay across, but Finlay gets the boot up and a DDT. Christian tagged in and Kane throws him off into the corner to tag Mark Henry. Henry takes a few shots from Christian, but Christian leaps right into Henry. Christian slips out of the World's Strongest Slam and goes to the knee, as Finlay hits a chop block. Kane comes in and gets dumped to the floor. Christian and Finlay turn into a double clothesline from Henry. Henry dumps Finlay to the floor and goes back to Christian, who catches mark with a boot to the face. Christian up top and he leaps off with a cross body… but Mark Henry catches him! World's Strongst Slam connects and gets the hree count at 9:50. Kane comes back into the ring and Mark Henry decks him also to accent the victory,
Winners: Mark Henry and Kane
Match Rating: ** Nice little tag match right there. Nothing horrible by any means, but it wasn't spectacular.
Back from a commercial and after more mainstream WrestleMania hype, we go into a whole look at Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels, complete with Michaels break away from JBL, to his earning a chance against the Undertaker, to all the mind games he has played these past few weeks. Plus a look at each man's WrestleMania moments. We then go to another commercial as that video was over five minutes long.
Back from the break and we once again go to a promo and WrestleMania hype, this time for Edge vs. Big Show vs. John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship. This starts at the Elimination Chamber and goes through the whole love triangle garbage. Once again, this a quite a long video that brings us to yet another commercial.
We are back again and we get to the WrestleMania rewind for WrestleMania 23, which was in Detroit. And it saw the most unreal Money in the Bank match, the Undertaker go to 15-0, and the Vince McMahon headshaving match against Donald Trump as Bob Lashley defeated Umaga.
We then go yet another promo video, this time for Randy Orton and Triple H and the whole McMhaon family saga. Like the first two, this was another long promo and brings us to another commerical. Not saying it was bad, but come on now. More than half an hour straight without without a match? It's like watching an episode of Impact.
Nikki Bella vs. Bree Bella
FINALLY A MATCH! Nikki comes out with Miz and Morrison and she looks freaking hot! Morrison is text messaging on his way to the ring. Bree comes out to the same theme music, but with the Colons. Bree looks a bit cutter in her gold. Nikki wears red here. Only way I tell them apart is like that. Nikki turns around to discuss fashion and she gets rolled up for two. Bree shoves Nikki and Nikki spears her twin to starts punching away. Bree reverses and allows her sister to get up, but Nikki hits a knee to the gut and a forearm to the face. Bree reverses and does something of a monkey flip. Bree gets a headlock takedown and Nikki is in the corner. Bree charges and leaps to the second rope, but she gets shoved off. Nikki with a nice snap suplex and gets a two count. Nikki with a hard whip to the corner and she hits a knee to the gut before throwing her out. Nikki locks in some sort of side surfboard, but she lets go and throws Bree into the corner. Bree reverses and hits a clothesline, followed by a dropkick. Bree then hits a bulldog, but Miz and Morrison get to the ring apron, allowing Nikki to roll up Bree and get a three count at 3:30.
Winner: Nikki Bella
Match Rating: ¾* For two sisters, you would think this match would have been better than what is was.

One of the worst episodes of any wrestling show I've seen in a long time. You know we'll have to sit through all of those recaps again during Smackdown and Wrestlemania

Normaally I'm a proper McMahon Sheep and don't ask questions. but this was just plain disappointing!
No ECW build and minimum use of some of the awesome young talent. I turn in to see Bourne, Ortiz, Swagger, Gabriel, and Tyson Kidd, along with Miz and Morrison and Christian.
We didn't get to see any of that.

Cheap shot.

I want my hour back after watching that. And what was the point of the recap package of the Trump match? I especially like how they made it look like Lashley was just there to help shave Vince bald.

Holy shit. I love ECW, but that was the worst hour of "wrestling" I've ever had the displeasure of wasting my time on.
Posted By: August (Guest) on March 31, 2009 at 11:52 PM
I feel bad for the people who decided to watch this.

"Vintage WCW Worldwide!"
Uh, did you ever WATCH Worldwide? It was the best wrestling show going for a while back in the day.

Where is Jack Swagger, the ECW champion? WTF?
Posted By: Guest#0517 (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 10:14 AM
I understand why they did it but I still didn't like the TNA-esque 30 minutes + between matches.
Posted By: Palmdale (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 10:56 AM
WH..WH..WHAT? I'm glad I didn't watch that shit. How do they have what I figured would be the MITB winner getting pinned again by sweaty ass Mark Henry? Why do they keep putting over 2 of the guys that have no chance of winning that match? I figured when there would be no Swager/Christian at WM that Christian was a lock for MITB, but they don't give CPT Charisma any mic time or a win in the last month heading in.
Here's how I see it Christian or Shelton win the MiTB even though they have overshadowed them. Punk won it last year, and they've made him look like a duechbag the last couple weeks. Henry/Kane have no chance. Kofi is there for high flying fun, but has little Main Event draw. And MVP is horrible as a Face, fans aren't buying into it.
Go Shelton!!!
Posted By: Kevin (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Sorry where's Bourne vs Swagger at WM?
Fuck you WWE. You had a potential classic there and you've WASTED it.
Posted By: Parxy (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 02:30 PM
Thank god I slept thru this.. is WWE or Vince FUCKIN stupid?
only 1/3 watch this show.. dont they think that most of them that watched raw.. saw those goddamn replays???
I turn in to see the fuckin wrestling not the replays that ive seen 20 times already!
Posted By: guesthehe (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 04:23 PM
Seriously WWE, shouldnt it be the other way around? NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE SEE ECW AS MUCH AS RAW so why don't you all go ahead and put replays in RAW or something instead of the other way around?
Posted By: guesthehe (Guest) on April 01, 2009 at 04:26 PM
What did you expect??
The ECW Championship isn't up for grabs at 'Mania and ECW is ALWAYS just a recap show for RAW and a set up show for Smackdown.
Hell, the entire ECW Roster wrestles on RAW/Smackdown every week anyhow.
Plus, you gotta remember that this weeks ECW was filmed at the Supershow along w/ RAW and Smackdown. They had to give the people at the event some kind of intermission to buy their Jeff Hardy Armbands.
I'll admit this weeks ECW was shitty, but once again, it was pretty much what I expected it to be.

"Why do they keep putting over 2 of the guys that have no chance of winning that match?"
You just answered your own question....

Bellas main event???? What the fuck is this world coming too?
Posted By: ftw924 (Guest) on April 02, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Thank the lord I was watching women's college basketball instead. Yeah, I said women's college basketball. ECW made me get a look at a sport I've never watched women play in my life. It was pretty cool, I may watch the rest of their tournament as well as the men's. You have broadened my horizons ECW!!
