Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.16.2009

411's Ring of Honor on HDNet Report 5.16.09

  • As a reminder, this is the barebones report. I will do play by play and results, that is all. JD Dunn will be back with his breakdown of the show, with the wacky hi-jinks and star ratings.

-Prazak and THE HOG welcome us the show, and say that Flair and Cary Silken are meeting to decide who gets the ROH title shot.

-We get highlights of the first HDNet meeting that Albright and Castagnoli had. Albright says he will put his very American foot up Castagnoli's very European ass.

    Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright

No handshake as Albright dives into the ring, shoots and takes Castagnoli down. They beat the piss out of each other, back elbow by Castagnoli and then some very European uppercuts connect. Off the ropes and Albright gets the snap slam for 2. The action spills to the floor, chops by Albright and then slams Castagnoli into the barricade. Snap mare and kicks by Albright, followed by uppercuts. Back into the ring they go, and Albright covers for 2. Albright heads up top, and MISSES the missile dropkick. Bicycle kick by Castagnoli gets a cover for 2. Elbows by Castagnoli, and to the floor they go. Castagnoli slams Albright into the barricade. Back to the ring they go, they trade forearms and then Castagnoli pokes Albright in the eyes. Off the ropes, reversal, and Albright tosses Castagnoli over the top and to the floor. PLANCHA by Albright! Back in the ring and Albright with a top rope cross body for 2. Crow Bar by Albright! Castagnoli gets the ropes though. Stun gun by Castagnoli, boots to the gut , Ricolla Bomb try us countered and Castagnoli leaps into the Air Raid Crash by Albright for 2. Castagnoli counters a half nelson suplex into a roll up for 2 as the ref caught him with the ropes. Spinning head scissors by Albright into the crow bar! Osiris and PRINCE NANA are out! Osiris throws a shoe at Albright, which allows Castagnoli to low blow Albright and steal a win.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli @ 9:00 via pin

-Colt Cabana makes the save for Brent Albright,

-Steen and Generico are backstage and Generico is going batshit because he wants to beat down the American Wolves.

Grizzly Redwood and Alex Payne vs. The Dark City Fight Club

This will not be pretty. Chavis powers down Payne to begin. Lock up, to the ropes and rights by Payne. Off the ropes and Redwood blind tags in, tries to chop down Chavis but eats the flapjack. Double team ace crusher on Redwood gets 2 as Payne makes the save. Payne tags in, POUNCE BY DAVIS~! Tag to Chavis and The Dark City Street Cutter finishes it.

Winner: The Dark City Fight Club @ 2:00 via pin

-We get buzzwords for Necro Butcher and Delirious. "What he said!" Jacobs and Lee

    FLAIR SPEAKS!
Flair says that when he gets in the ring, someone holds the ropes, because some things never change. Flair loves controversy, and that keeps the fans excited, and keeps everyone watching. He discusses who will get the first title shot on HDNet, and someone yells out that Flair should, and he says it has crossed his mind. He and Cary Silken met, and the first ROH Title match on HDNet will be set. He calls out Jerry Lynn. Flair tells one of the staff monkeys to always open the ropes for the ROH World Champion. Tyler Black makes his way to the ring and shakes with Flair, Bryan Danielson now makes his way to the ring. He shakes with Flair and Lynn. And here comes A DOUBLE, Austin Aries! Aries makes sure to have the ropes held open for him. Aries says that there is only one guy close to having the style of Flair. He says Flair is the greatest ever, Aries is the greatest man that ever lived, so break the news to these guys. Flair then says he is impressed with everyone in the ring. Flair shakes with all of them, and says that HDNet wants cutting edge, something special, so the first ROH World Title Match will be Lynn vs. Aries vs. Black vs. Danielson! Flair has a little cheat sheet, and I am sure someone will bitch about that. Flair wishes them all luck in the match. Lynn is less than thrilled with the four-way.

-Kyle Durden talks with Titus and King. BROTHER, BROTHER, BROTHER! They plan to make an example of the champions tonight.

Jay Briscoe w/Mark Briscoe vs. Sami Callahan

Briscoe with he early advantage, chopping away and Sami. Off the ropes and a back elbow by Briscoe gets 2. Sami fights back, charges Briscoe but gets slammed to the buckle. Sami comes back with the boot and sliding clothesline, and covers for 2. Briscoe back with the boot and clothesline to get things back his way. Jay driller finishes it.

Winner: Jay Briscoe @ 2:00 via pin

-Kyle Durden enters the ring, and asks for an update. Mark says he will be back in no time. Jay then says… MAN UP! MAN UP! MAN UP! MAN UP!

Non-Title Match: Kevin Steen and El Generico © vs. Rhett Titus and Kenny King

Titus and Generico to kick things off. Lock up, head lock by Titus. Off the ropes and a shoulder block drops Generico. He comes back with arm drags, to the corner and mounted punches to Titus. A leg lariat follows and Generico covers for 2. Tag back to Steen and they pull off the double team back splash for 2. Chops by Steen, a whip and boot by Titus. Tag to King, he charges in and Steen takes him down. Tag to Generico, drop toehold and Steen gets the front flip leg drop and Generico covers for 2. Rights by Generico, Titus sneaks a knee to the back and King with the Savage like neck snap on Generico. King and Titus take control and beat down Generico. Double teams now on Generico, as Titus uses the tag rope for some choking. Sweet dropkick by Titus and he gets a 2 count. Thrusting by Titus, eats a back elbow and Generico with the big cross body and BOTH men are down! Steen tags in, powerbomb to Titus! Sharp shooter try stopped by King. YAKUZA by Generico to King. DIVE onto Titus! Steen up top…SENTON on King! 1…2…NO! Tag to Generico, Steen tossed to the floor, Generico catches Titus with the atomic drop. King with the spin kick on Generico. Sets Generico up top, King follows, knocked off and then leaps back up and kills Generico with the kick. Slams Generico down, top ropes frog splash by Titus gets 2! Steen back in, DDT to King! Goes up top, Titus stops that, goes up with him, Steen out from that and places Titus in the tree of woe! Cannonball to King! Generico then gets the Frontflip dropkick ACROSS the ring to Titus Vanterminator style! Package piledriver by Steen on King! BRAINBUSTA BY GENERICO~! 1…2…3!

Winners: Kevin Steen and El Generico @ 10:00 via pin

Prazak said he doesnt think he could make it on his own...what?

I enjoyed this show...except for that crap...

Maybe Time Warner saw this show and thought "Damn, and we thought WCW was garbage" before they decided to drop HDNet
