411’s ECW on Sci-Fi Report 6.02.09

June 2, 2009 | Posted by Michael Bauer

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker at ringside as always after the opening video. You know, there is no DH Smith or Tyson Kidd in that video yet.

Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas)

Bourne got the countout victory last week… I don’t like his chances this week. The bell rings and Bourne looks a little tense. Henry throws Bourne into the corner and Bourne slips away to land some kicks, but gets thrown down with an elbow. Bourne ducks a few clotheslines, slips under the tree trunk legs and runs right into the bear splash. He got freaking engulfed. Henry now methodically stomps on Bourne and throws him head first into the second turnbuckle. Henry goes to the floor and wraps Bourne around the ring post. Henry locks in a chin lock with some huge back torque. Henry clubs the back to stop any momentum and gets a two count. Henry stands on Bourne’s back and he nearly gets DQed for it. Bourne dragged into the middle of the ring, but he avoids a running splash from Henry. Bourne hits a few kicks to the head and a dropkick gets a two count. Bourne still slow to get up, but he goes to the second rope and leaps right into Henry’s arms. Henry with a fallaway slam that send Bourne to the floor. The ref keeps Henry at bay and Tony Atlas goes to keep Bourne from getting to the top rope. The ref turns and sees it and DQs Mark Henry at 4:40. Henry charges Bourne and he gets low bridged to the floor. Henry starts screaming at Tony Atlas, saying he screws up everything and Tony just apologizes, saying he was trying to help.

Winner: Evan Bourne by DQ

Match Rating: * A lot less time and this match just wasn’t nearly as good as last week’s showing.

We get highlights from last week’s three on two handicap match and that leads to hype for Christian vs. Tyson Kidd for tonight.

Zach Ryder vs. Dustin Carwile

Oh my god, his music even more gay than he is. If there really is a god, he would strike a lightning bolt on him and end his madness. Zach starts aggressively and kicks away on the kid. Zach throws his head in the turnbuckle and hits a hard forearm. Dustin off the ropes and he gets a sunset flip, but not even for a one. Zach looks much more serious tonight as he locks in a chinlock. Dustin gets up and avoids a charge in the corner, but he can’t avoid the dropkick from the second rope. Zach hits that spinning neckbreaker into his knee and he gets the pinfall at 1:50. Not a single “Woo, woo, woo” this week.

Winner: Zach Ryder

Match Rating: ¼* Not even a good squash.

Gregory Helms is backstage with Finlay who is out of action for a little while longer, but he vows revenge on Swagger for injuring his eye further.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea)

Tommy comes out to the ring before we go to commercial. Katie has a microphone and congratulates Dreamer for having his last match on ECW against Paul Burchill. The bell rings and Dreamer gets the headlock, but is whipped off and hits a shoulderblock. Dreamer gets backed into the corner, but he whips Burchill hard and connects with a hip toss into an arm wrench. Paul escapes to the ropes, but he tricks in Dreamer and drops him onto the second rope. Burchill goes to a side grounded headlock, but Dreamer gets up and connects with a sunset flip for two after being whipped off the ropes. Burchill stomps away and hits a few knees to the back before going back to the headlock. Dreamer again goes back to his feet and gets thrown back down to the mat. Burchill slaps the head of Dreamer and Dreamer connects with a series of huge chops. Burchill clubs Dreamer and hits a huge clothesline in the corner. Burchill stomps away in the corner before applying a sleeperhold on Tommy, leaping on his back. Dreamer escapes with elbows and hits a side Russian legsweep. Dreamer punches away at the gut and throws Paul into the corner. Dreamer off the ropes with a bulldog! Dreamer gets a school boy for two. Dreamer connects with a huge slam, but Burchill’s arm was under the rope. Burchill reverses Dreamer’s momentum and hits a brain buster for two. Dreamer is in the corner, but avoids a huge charge by Burchill. Burchill walks into the DDT from Tommy Dreamer! Dreamer gets the cover and the three count at 5:50!

Winner: Tommy Dreamer

Match Rating: *3/4 Decent little match, but if this was Dreamer’s last ECW match, it deserved a lot more.

Back from the break and Tommy Dreamer is still in the ring. He wants to take some time to say thank you as that might have been his last match on ECW Television and he just wants to say goodbye. This brings out Jack Swagger, who mocks the last ECW Original left. Jack says that he is the only person who cares about that is Dreamer and that his quest is a joke of a way for him to be relevant. And that it is the only way that the ECW Title and Tommy Dreamer would be I the same sentence. Swagger says he will end it on Sunday as he wins the ECW Title back in Dreamer’s style of match. Dreamer says that he hopes one day Swagger would understand that this isn’t about glory, but about him putting his career on the line for something his loves so much. Dreamer says he will be here next week in the ring as ECW Champion.

Over to Josh and Matt who talk about Dreamer’s confidence and they run down whatever part of the Extreme Rules Pay Per View they feel like showing.

Tyson Kidd (with Natalya and DH Smith) vs. Christian

Kidd comes out with the rest of the Hart Trilogy before we go to commercial. Back from the break and here comes Christian. And for as smart of Striker is, he can’t do math, but it great as correcting himself. The bell rings and they eventually lock up. Kidd gets backed into the turnbuckle and we eventually get a break. Kidd gets a go behind, but Christian reverses into an arm wrench into a grounded headlock, but Kidd switches into a hammerlock. Kidd hipped off the ropes, Christian leaps, Kidd ducks, but Christian hits the spinning roundhouse for a two count. Kidd reverses an arm wrench into one of his own and pounds on the arm of Christian. Christian reverses, bringing Kidd down, but Kidd gets up and reverses and takes down Christian into an arm bar. Christian off the ropes and he hits a forearm smash for a one count. Christian gets booted in the chest and Kidd hits a dropkick to the face. Christian has his head smashed into the turnbuckle, but he catches Kidd coming off the top rope and flapjacks him for two. Kidd suckers Christian in as he rolls to the ropes with a shoulder block. Christian gets to the floor and Kidd misses a kick to the head. Christian drops Kidd on the ring apron and gets distracted by DH Smith, allowing Kidd to spear Christian into the steel steps as we go to a commercial at 4:50.

Back at 9:10 and Kidd drops a series of elbows on Christian before choking him on the bottom rope. Christian fights back, but Kidd ducks a forearm and rolls under into a single leg crab. Christian rolled out, but Tyson never let go and reapplied the hold. Kidd loses the handle and stomps on the chest, but Christian got a small package out of nowhere for two. Kidd locks in another submission, working on the arms this time and hits a knee as Christian gets up. Christian gets shoved into the turnbuckle and both men connect with a clothesline. Both men up slowly, but Christian’s punches connect, as does a huge forearm smash. Kidd dropped on the second rope and Christian stands on his back. Tyson Kidd gets his neck snapped on the ropes and Christian hits a missile dropkick for two. Kidd slips out of the Killswitch, but he walks into an elbow. Kidd then walks into a mule kick. Christian with a sunset flip, but Kidd drops down for two. Kidd hits a series of kicks, but Christian catches him with a rollup for two. Kidd catches Christian again and goes to the ring apron. Kidd springboards in and leaps right into a powerslam for two. Christian sent to the corner and Kidd misses a charge, but Christian hits a kick to the head. Christian heads up top, but Swagger is out now and Christian took his eyes away from Kidd. Kidd heads up and back body drops Christian down before connecting with a leg drop. Swagger hits the ring steps and Dreamer comes out, shoving Swagger into Smith. Dreamer then with the cannonball roll into both men. Kidd takes advantage and kicks the leg of Christian and hits another to the chest. Christian reverses momentum and throws Kidd shoulder first into the ring post. Killswitch connects and Christian gets the three count at 15:30. Dreamer comes in and shakes hands with Christian… before planting him with a DDT before giving one more primal scream as we end the show.

Winner: Christian

Match Rating: **3/4 The ending was a little screwy, but the match was quite good. Kidd looked amazing in this match.
