411's WWE Extreme Rules Report 6.07.09
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 06.07.2009

Greetings humanity! Welcome to our live report of WWE's Extreme Rules PPV! I'm your host Chris Lansdell, and I have high hopes for this PPV. With Edge-Jeff, Jericho-Rey and the US title match all looking good on paper, how can we go wrong?

Oh. Right.

US Title Fatal Four Way Match:: Kofi Kingston © vs. MVP vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy

Well there goes Punk's streak of curtain-jerking PPVs. Weirdly enough they bring out the champ first. Regal is out next in his PIMP smoking jacket. Seriously, shit was so cash. Matt's out next and his isn't any less cool. MVP has taken to this face stuff like a duck to water. Hopefully they don't hotshot the title back to him here so his push can continue.

Regal feeds Hardy to the faces to start, they quickly pound him down and then take it to Regal. MVP gets tripped by Matt and pulled to the outside, KOFI over the top with a slingshot crossbody. He goes up top and hits Regal with a HIGH crossbody for 2. MVP breaks up the pin, a whip is reversed and High back elbow by Kofi to MVP, but Regal is back. He controls both faces with his trademark brutality, then perches Kofi up top. MVP comes over to try a tower of doom...Regal throws Kofi with a super double underhook, landing on MVP!!! Everyone is down, and that might have been a botch too. Regal is checking on MVP surreptitiously, so it probably was. Hardy is back in, he covers MVP for two, then Regal for 2, and finally Kofi for 2. Clothesline to MVP, Side Effect to Regal gets 2. Scoop and slam to MVP followed by a second rope leg drop gets 2 more. Hardy certainly has the points lead. He sets for the Twist on MVP but gets NAILED with a Kofi clothesline. High dropkick by Kofi! Beautiful. Leaping lariat to hardy, Kofi scoops up Regal and drops him on Hardy...Bo! Bo! Bo! Leg drop! 2 count on Hardy, Regal breaks it up. Kofi dumps Regal outside, Hardy whips Kofi to the corner but Kofi avoids the charge and kicks Hardy in the face! He fights off MVP on the outside and goes for Trouble in Paradsie on Regal...Countered! T-bone suplex NO! Kofi turns it into a clothesline on Hardy! 2 count for Kofi. MVP back in and gets the belly to belly throw on Kofi, but Hardy breaks up the pin. Hardy and MVP slug it out, MVP gets the advantage and drops Hardy with a jawjacker. BALLIN! 1 count only as Regal is in with an exploder suplex and lefts in the corner. Kofi leaps over Regal and lays in some punches but Regal throws him down. Knee to the head of MVP! Exploder for Hardy! He throws Kofi out...NO! Kofi bounces off the ropes...TROUBLE IN PARADISE! 1...2...3!

Winner: Kofi Kingston via pinfall (on Regal, Trouble in Paradise)
Rating: **3/4 Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this a lot. It just seemed a weird plce to put the ending and felt like everything was being hurried. With 5 more minutes this could have been incredible.

They interview Big Show. Standard promo.

No Holds Barred IC Title Match: Rey Mysterio © vs. Chris Jericho

Jericho's music hits, but he doesn't come out. Huh? Oh excellent. He's at the merch stand with a mic, bitching about Rey selling masks. He comes through the crowd to the ring, telling fans not to touch Jericho. Low drop kick by Rey, but Jericho comes back with an elbow and rams Rey to the barricade. Whip to the steps but Rey handsprings over them and dropkicks the steps into Jericho's knees! He takes Jericho to the steps again, then to the rail. Rana off the apron! Back in the ring and Rey drops the dime to the back of the head!! 1...2...no! Remember when that was his finisher? Jericho with a boot to the gut to regain control, then he hangs Rey out to dry on the top rope. Jericho catapults Rey's throat onto the bottom rope.Whip by Jericho, Rey avoids the charge and tries to springboard in but gets caught and crotched by Jericho. Jericho tries the springboard dropkick but Rey counters with a kick of his own. 619 around the corner post! Rey up top....crossbody to the outside! Rey throws Jericho back in and hits another springboard legdrop for 2. Whip by Rey reversed, Rey comes off the ropes and gets a headscissors! 619 position...Jericho is up and hits a shoulder block to counter. Rey fights back with kicks, Jericho tries a whip but eats boot. Wheelbarrow suplex countered to a rollup for 2. Susnset flip by Jericho, Rey rolls through but Jericho stops him for the Walls! Rey rolls through that and gets 2! WOW stiff kick to the head gets 2 more for Rey. That sounded nasty. Rey comes off the ropes and gets leveled with a clothesline for 2. Jericho launches Rey to the outside and works the crowd. Face first suplex on the outside by Jericho. He rolls Rey back in and gets 2. Half nelson chinlock by Jericho who ALMOST gets the mask, and in fact the camera gave us a full shot of Rey's face. Rey fights out with kicks to Jericho's face. Jericho charges Rey in the corner, Rey moves and Jericho's shoulder hits steel! Rey FLIES to the outside with a tope!! That looked awesome, serious hang time. Jericho is thrown back in. Springboard La Silla, headscissors and a rana by Rey gets 2. Another whip is reversed, Rey gets a drop toehold and goes for the 619....Jericho catches him! ARGENTINE BACKBREAKER AND DROP! 1...2...2.805! Jericho is awesome. Haven't seen that in a while. Rey runs the ropes and tries the rana again...countered to a powerbomb! Lionsault...misses!!! 619 TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD! Rey goes for the springboard CODEBREAKER! Both men down! Jericho gets the cover...1...2...2.857441! Jericho is shocked and gets a chair. Rey kicks it into his face! 1...2...no! MEXICAN FACEBUSTER! Rey is EL SABU! 1...2...NO! Rey sets up the chair in the corner and drop toeholds Jericho into it! Rey runs and leaps of the chair...WALLS OF JERICHO! Great counter! Rey grabs the chair, he can't get it to close...WHAM! He breaks the hold! 619 position...JERICHO UNMASKS REY MID MOVE!!!!!! Rey is covering his face, schoolboy by Jericho! 1...2...3!!! NEW CHAMPEEN!

Winner: Chris Jericho via pinfall (unmasking and schoolboy)
Rating: ***¼ I might be under-rating this, since I can remember quite a few spots from the match, but that's the drawback of rating everything at the end. It was very good, probably not quite as good as last month's effort which I now know I really under-rated. The finish was unique and both men worked hard, but I think I would have liked it more if they'd made more use of the stipulation.

Big Dave gets to watch the abuse of Ric Flair, and he is OFFENDED~!

Samoan Strap Match: Umaga vs. CM Punk

I dare you to go tease Umaga about his skirt. There's my boy! Note to anyone wanting to buy me an anniversary gift, I'll take Punk's shirt in 2XL. They have a cool little graphic in the top right telling us who has touchned the corner.

Punk starts with some shots but one back elbow and Umaga has control. One buckle...2...HIGH KNEE by Punk. Umaga pushes off the bulldog but misses a splash. Kicks by Punk, he gets 2 buckles before being squashed with a Samoan Drop. Umaga decides to treat Punk like a government mule and starts whipping him. Headbutt by Umaga, followed by a jumping headbutt. Umaga goes to the floor and drags Punk, pulling his shoulder into the corner post via the strap. He slams Punk's forearm on the steps. Back inside, Umaga perches Punk over the top rope and superkicks him to the floor! He touches two buckles but the strap nis not long enough, with Punk outside, to reach the other two. Punk is on the apron and kicks Umaga, then hits the springboard clothesline. GTS try is no good as Umaga is too heavy. SPINNING HEEL KICK by Umaga. Best big man in the business right now. Umaga charges and leaps...catches the corner post! Punk crotches him with the strap! Umaga tries to go outside but gets hauled into the ring post! High knee by Punk, followed by the bulldog. One buckle...two...three...Umaga reels him in and hits the spinning slam! Now it's Umaga's turn! 1...2...3...Punk grabs on to the ropes and reels in the slack, preventing Umaga from continuing! Umaga charges and Punk low bridges him, then gets 3 buckles easily. However Umaga thinks that's enough and yanks Punk down with the strap. Umaga goes up top...Punk's up! Using the strap he slams Umaga from the top! 1....2...3...Umaga is up! He's blocking the fourth! Umaga charges...GTS!!!!! Punk gets the 4th buckle!

Winner: CM Punk via appropriate touching (GTS enables fourth touch)
Rating: **3/4 It's hard to have a good strap match. The fact that they didn't go with the stealth-touching finish is a bonus, and Umaga worked hard and bumped hard for Punk.

ECW Title Extreme Rules Match: Christian © vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer

GO! What is with bringing out the champ first tonight? And when was Dreamer's last PPV match? Anyone? How about his last PPV win? Has he ever had one in WWE?

Small EC-Dub chant. Dreamer chases Swagger to the outside, Swagger gets in first and lays in the boots. Christian takes exception and intervens but gets a belly to belly for his torubles. Dreamer intervenes and tries a DDT but gets taken over in a Northern Lights by Swagger. Dreamer has a cane! Christian has a trash canlid! PLUNDAH! They take turns annihilating Swagger. White Russian leg sweep by Dreamer gets 2, broken up by Christian. Shots with the lid by Christian, Dreamer comes back with a cane to the gut and a beautiful cane-assisted pumphandle suplex. Swagger takes over on Dreamer in the corner, tries to charge with the trash can lid but gets back body dropped over the top to the floor! MOTHER OF MERCY Dreamer just hit a somersault trash can senton off the apron to both men! He has another cane and comes off the middle rope with a cane clothesline to Swagger! He hangs Swagger on the Tree of Woe and wedges a trash can in front of his face, but gets tripped by Christian, who hits the dropkick himself! He throws Dreamer into the trash can and gets a 2 count. Christian throws Dreamer outside but gets caned by Swagger. Belly to belly uranage gets 2. Gut buster and a face-first miltary press get 2 more. For some reason, with a plethora of weapons available, Swagger wants to undo the turnbuckle. Dreamer with a cane shot to his knuckled, reverse DDT by Christian gets 2! Dreamer in and hits Christian with the lid, then slams him on it. Second rope elbow misses. New Orleans wants tables. Christian tries a crossbody to the outside on Swagger, but only connects with a trash can. Dreamer is throwing plunder in the ring, and enters with a cane. WHAM to the gut of Swagger, who manages to connect with a belly to belly! Swagger lines up three trash cans in the middle of the ring and perches Dreamer up top. Christian is in! TOWER OF DOOM! Dreamer hits the trashcan HARD. Christian gets a 2 count off Dreamer and another off Swagger. He goes outside and returns with a crutch, goes up top with it but gets Swagger's boot. Swagger misses the crutch shot, Killswitch attempt is countered into an electric chair...drops him on the exposed turnbuckle! Doctor Bomb! NO!!! Dreamer with huge shots to Swagger with the crutch!!! DDT!!! 1...2...3!!!!!!

Winner: TOMMY FUCKING DREAMER via pinfall (on Swagger, DDT)
Rating: **½ Aside from the nostalgia, very little from this match was memorable. It wasn't bad, and Swagger in particular looked good, but it was more or less one of those matches that was there. Dreamer turned back the clock which was nice to see, but where does Christian go from here?

Let's see what BlaccuWeather meteorolgist Ollie Williams thinks of that result. Ollie?

What the hell?

Thanks Ollie. Now this!

Miss WrestleMania Hog Pen Match: Santina vs. Vickie Guerrero © w/Chavo Guerrero

King tries to explain the rules to us. Then he makes some poor jokes. Get him to write this column. Is Vickie seriously going to wrestle in an evening gown? Or is that a shower curtain? Before we get started, Vickie says it's now a handicap match, and Chavo will be joining her. Oh good. That should add a couple of stars.

Santina throws mud at Chavo's nice shirt, so Chavo smacks her around a bit. He wipes mud in her face and tries a powerbomb...countered into a backdrop! Chavo regains control and throws slop at Santina. Chavo tries to throw Santina inside but it's reversed and Chavo is with the pigs! He gets out sharpish and drives Santina's face into the mud. Tag to Vickie and Santina is up! She has the slop hucket! Chavo interrupts and HE has the bucket...Santina ducks!! She has another bucket for Chavo, then puts it on his head and punches it! She takes down Vickie and covers her! 1...2...3!

Winner: Santina Marella via pinfall (on Vickie)
Rating: 1/8* Only because Vickie's uppance has finally come.

Chavo and Vickie roll around in the mud post-match. And I lose my dinner.

Steel Cage WWE Title Match: Randy Orton © vs. Batista

He hears voices in his head, they counsel him they understand, they talk to him. As per usual Orton comes down solo, but I would bet he doesn't leave alone. Good grief, Batista is on a roll as he times his pose AGAIN! See, even Batista reads 411mania!

Orton tries to escape right away, and almost makes it. This could be a tough match given Batista's injury. Orton is almost over!!! Batista has him by the head and that saves it. They fight on the top rope until Batista is able to throw him down. Shoulder charges in the corner by Batista, then more into the cage. Batista tries once too many and gets knees to the face. Orton tries to use that to escape but Batista catches him an levels him with a clothesline. Suplex by Batista gets 2. Whip and Batista drops his head, getting kicked in the bargain. Orton goes for the door but is stopped. Clotheslines in the corner, Batista tries a powerslam but Orton slides out the back and runs Batista into the cage then hits his modified backbreaker. Again Orton goes for the door and has his hands on the floor before batista catches him. Orton goes face-first to the cage several times, powerslam by Batista gets 2. Orton dodges the charge and starts the assault. Whip by Orton reversed, SPINEBUSTER! He sets for the Batista Bomb but Orton backdrops him into the cage!! Picture-perfect dropkick from orton, driving Batista's head into the cage. Orton starts to climb but sets for the punt instead! MISSED!!! He climbs the cage instead but Batista has him for a Batista Bomb...Orton fights out! RKO...countered!!! BATISTA BOMB!!! 1...2...3??????? Ummm...surgery?

Winner: Batista via pinfall (Batista Bomb)
Rating: There were rumours prior to the match that Batista needs surgery on a torn biceps. I guess this result kind of puts the kibosh on that, but you can never tell with Vince. This was short, slow and basically just Not Good. Batista needs refreshing, preferably with a heel turn. Orton is better against faster, more energetic guys. Formula for fail, right there.

Submission Match: The Big Show vs. John Cena

Crowd is rabid for Cena. He kicks the legs early but tries once too often. Big Show catches the foot and levels Cena with a clothesline. Show goes for the Clutch, Cena escapes and tries the STF but Show's too big. Cena's foot gets caught again but he ducks the clothesline and lays in some shots before being kicked in the face. Avalanche in the corner by Show, he tries a second but Cena moves. Cena comes off the ropes and tries a bulldog but Show counters and Cena rolls to the outside. Back inside, Cena tries to fight back and comes off the ropes with the flying tackle...only to bounce off Show. That was fun. Show tries to apply a full nelson, Cena fights it off and doesn't let Show lock his hands. Headbutt to the back of the head by Show, a whip to the corner but Show runs into Cena's foot. Sleeper by Cena! A very sloppy one, anyway. Show goes down to one knee and the hold is effecitvely a chinlock right now. Show flips Cena over and hits the alley oop! Love that move. Show goes to work on the ribs now, laying in huge rights. Suplex by Show and Cena rolls to the ropes, holding them for dear life. Show simply stands on him. He goes to the second rope and tries the Vader Splash...Cena moves! Slam by Cena!!! NO!! Show falls on him and...I think that's an Anaconda Vice variation. He has the head of Cena locked up with one shoulder. Cena uses his knees to get free...GOOZLE! Cena fights off the chokeslam but Show just throws him outside. Show follows and takes Cena up in a slam...rams his back into the post! Back inside now, Show applies a giant abdominal stretch. Cena powers out! GOOZLE reversed into a DDT! He shakes off all the punishment and tries the STF...Show simply kicks him off and to the outside. Cena gets to the apron and kicks Show, then goes up top...BEAR HUG by Show! That didn't go according to plan...Cena goes to the eyes to escape, then hits the Throwback! You cannot visually perceive him! GOOZLE again! Cena fights out, Attitude Adjustment!!! STF try again, and again Show fights it off. KO PUNCH and Cena is down! He rolls outside, Show tries to run him into the post but Cena slides out the back and runs Show into the post instead! Both men are down on the outside now. Show rolls in, Cena quickly goes up top and hits the top rope Fameasser! Cena wedges Show's foot in the ropes and applies a crossface! Ohhhhh that's WEAK. Show taps!

Winner: John Cena via submission (Crossface with rope assistance)
Rating: **¼ Not as bad as I feared, but I could have watched the match on double speed and kept up. It was painfully slow at times. The result should surprise no-one, because after all...

Cena SUPERIOR, rest of roster INFERIOR

World Title Ladder Match: Edge © vs. Jeff Hardy

Again, the champ comes out first. Hardy has no face paint. This should be special.

Edge with the early advantage with a kneelift, Hardy avoids a charge in the corner and hits a clothesline. Scoop slam by Jeff and a leg drop. Another kneelift by Edge, a whip and a spear in the corner and he's back on top. Still no ladders as Edge tries the Implant DDT, Hardy blocks and hits the gourdbuster. HERE COMES THE LADDER! Edge baseball slides into the ladder and goes outside, but Hardy regains control. Back inside now, Edge reverses a whip but hardy holds onto the ropes. Edge charges and gets lifted over the top to the floor and the ladder! Jeff brings the ladder inside and starts to climb! Edge back in and hauls him down. Whip by Edge and...I have no idea what that was meant to be, it looked like a botched flapjack into the ladder where Jeff has supposed to hang on and start climbing, but the ladder was too close and everything went down in a heap. Edge sets the ladder in the corner and whips Jeff HARD into it. He sets it in another corner, places Jeff on it and charges for the spear...and gets nothing but rungs as Hardy moves! Jeff dropkicks the ladder into Edge's face. Again the ladder is set up in the corner, Jeff charges but misses the kick as Edge moves, and the ladder falls on Jeff! Edge positions Jeff's legs between the two sides of the ladder and slams it shut. His body is now in the ladder...SHARPSHOOTER in the ladder! Awesome. Jeff is tapping like Michael Flatley! Edge sets up the somewhat damaged ladder and starts to climb...Jeff dropkicks the ladder off the top! Hardy has the ladder upside down...OH GOD DAMN he hits a face-first suplex INTO the middle of the ladder! Fuck me that looked nasty. He dropped him into the V formed by the upside-down ladder!!! Jeff has a second ladder that would probably allow him to retrieve the space station. Jeff climbs but he's a long way from the belt! He rides the falling ladder and grabs the clasp holding the belt! Edge jerks him down before he can inhook the belt. Jeff looks hurt. Edge is up but gets whipped into the ladder. Jeff climbs three-quarters of the way up the ladder and Whispers in the Wind!!! Jeff goes outside now and gets another ladder, this one slightly shorter. He sets it up under the belt but Edge is up. Hardy clotheslines both of them up and over the top. Edge is the first to recover and places a ladder horizontally between the ring and the railing. Shades of Money in the Bank at Mania! Edge goes to suplex Hardy into the ladder, Hardy fights it off and takes Edge to the barricade. Hardy brings more ladders into play, hitting Edge with one. Hardy whips Edge, no it's reversed and Hardy goes to the steps, then to the barricade. Edge has the steps and goes to level Jeff, who kicks them back into Edge! RUNNING RKO INTO THE RAILING!! Awesome move! Hardy puts Edge on the horizontal ladder on the outside, then sets up another MASSIVE ladder on the floor. Jeff climbs but Edge is up and climbs too! They are fighting at the top of a 15 foot ladder! OH MY FATHER IN HEAVEN they both fell!!! They both fell THROUGH the horizontal ladder on the outside!!! Both men are hurting, both men have made it back to the ring. They are fighting from their knees! Jeff gets the upper hand and starts to climb. He has the belt! He can't pull it down and now Edge has climbed another ladder!!! He leaps..SPEAR no TWIST OF FATE OFF THE LADDER!!! Jeff is climbing again! Edge is grasping desparately at Hardy, but Jeff kicks him off! Both men are within reach on the ladder! Edge knocks Hardy down! Edge has it...NO! Hardy grabs Edge's feet and pulls him THROUGH the ladder!!!!!! Edge is stuck with his legs through the ladder and his upper body is wedging him in!!! Hardy has the belt...HE GOT IT!!!!!

Winner: Jeff Hardy via retrieval (Edge Wedge)
Rating: ****¼ It's a constant source of amazement to me that these two guys always manage to find spots that we haven't seen yet. This was the best ladder match I've seen either of these guys in for a while. Taken independently of what happened next, this was a fine way to end the show.

Hardy poses with the belt on top of the ladder as Edge is trapped still and has to watch the NEW champion, completely helpless. I can honestly say I have never seen that finish for a ladder magtch before. JR is in the ring with Hardy...PUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The refs scramble to remove the ladders and Punk is cashing in! Hardy looks like he's done. GTS!!!!!!! 1...2...2.90558!!! EVERYONE thought that was it. Cradle by Hardy!!! 1...2...2.9112!!! Kick to the head by Punk,,,GTS number 2! 1...2...3!!!!!!!!!! PUNKGASM!

WINNER: CM PUNK via pinfall (GTS)
Rating: ELEVENTY BILLION STARS I can't really rate a cash-in, but HEEL PUNK will rule IF they do it right.

Heel turn, bitches!

stupid 12yrd old punk mark

Lol let the Punk hating commence. I for one am a kinda big fan of Punk, but I didn't like the ending at all. Start the awesome promos by heel Punk trashing on Hardy for him being a druggie and not deserving a title.

Weak ass bullshit of a PPV

Posted By: Guest#0913 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 11:45 PM

Soundwave needs to appear more often.

Posted By: Guest#6840 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 11:45 PM

They better not be turning Punk heel with this. In light of their Wellness Program, having the one guaranteed clean guy on the roster as the bad guy to the super druggie not only sends the wrong message to the roster, but to the children who they seem to want to market their product toward.

Posted By: WilliamMorgan (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 11:45 PM

Man, I like Punk but come on, that was such bullshit, Jeff should still be champ, as for the show, it was a'ight, Jeff vs. Edge was the best as I expected, but Jeff should still be champ right now

Posted By: Bill (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 11:45 PM

Actually sounds like it was a decent PPV. A punk heal turn could be interesting, Dreamer having the ECW strap works for me also.
But didn't they do the stealing the mask years ago in WCW? I think Jericho stole Juvi's mask, and some other guys items.

I don't know about ya'll but I like my Smackdown World Champion to be Drug Free, thank you very much

HEEL TURN PLEASE

That was an awesome PPV

Dreamer and Punk definitely take the cake. Batista and Cena stunk though

WTF Crossface? are they serious? I thought they were erasing benoit from history and only Clique members can use the move? =(

The hardy mark in me curse CM Punk but seeing as this may turn Punk heel I just may be able to get over it assuming it leads up to a Hardy/Punk storyline. If nothing more than just seeing something not played out for the 100th time. :/

Blah, blah, blah I'm an elitist and I hate on Cena just because. Now that's out of the way...

Jericho/Rey was match of the night by far. Edge/Jeff was very good. Don't get me wrong. But there's no way it topped the IC title match.

Giving the submission match anything more than one star is ridiculous. It was so darned slow and the exact same as the Judgment Day match. It was typical Hogan formula. Cena gets killed forever with a few tiny flurries. Finally he makes a big comeback by beating a guy far too quickly with a lame finisher.

Everything else was rated just about right. My money is on Batista dropping his title tomorrow. I think he is injured and this win is just to make him look good as he leaves. If he is injured he deserves it. He came back too early. Maybe Orton can complain about him and get Dave fired as well.

Decent PPV overall but it wasn't as good as Backlash and Judgment Day.

"ELEVENTY BILLION STARS"
Couldn't agree more

"WTF Crossface? are they serious? I thought they were erasing benoit from history and only Clique members can use the move? =(
"
Khali did it to Big Show at Backlash 2008, so it's not Kliq only.

Like every other WWE PPV, this show had a couple of bad matches, but for da most part I thought it was awesome. Jericho, Mysterio, Edge, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy all bought da goodness.

Change of the guard on every show once again... titles are becoming more and more worthless by the day. At first I was pissed Batista won but I think it makes better financial sense to run Batista/HHH, Tista/Cena over the next few months because frankly Orton was dull as champ and went back to acting like a complete pussy again.

Punk was very heelish at the end I wonder if this is going to be permanent thing? I'm pretty sure after the announcement of Edge's 'divorce' from pig I think we will see a face turn in the next month.. and a possible Edge/Christian reunion? (rare occasion type thing)

Workrate wise it was a passable PPV not brilliant or anything... you massively overrated the ladder match outside some unique spots it had no realistic flow and just didn't click... I'd go ***1/2.

I legit fell asleep twice during the Cena/Show match.

I'm okay with Hardy beating Edge, and Punk beating Hardy, but it means yet another cheapened title reign for Edge.

In the eyes of kayfabe, how do Orton/Show/Edge have any credibility?

I'd rather not see Jericho relegated to the midcard yet again, but this does do favors for the IC Title, re-emphasizing the importance of the title.

Fantastic main event match, saved the PPV.

The I.C Title match and the ladder Match were both tremendous matches. The rest of the show was pretty damn bad. These constant numerous title changes at every ppv is ridiculous imo. It really has devalued the World title belts. Keep the belt on somebody(anyone) for more than a month or two geez. Raw once again was the weak link in the ppv with a candidate for worst match of the year(Cena-Big Show) and a ridiculously short world title match.

Oh, and how could I forget? CM Punk baby! Does this mean Jeff has the shortest title reign in history? I assume his reign was shorter than Yokozuna's and Andre's is a little foggy. It's at least the shortest World title reign if not the shortest WWE title reign. Gotta love it.

Druggie boy gets killed by the straight edge superstar. Jeff's going to need extra crack to get over this one.

WOW!
3 titles changed hands again.
& this time the intercon title changed as well.

i was very very surprised at Bati winning.....yawn.
i don't hate him but he is boring right now.

when everyone was expecting punk to cash in in the last 2 ppvs where he losed his matches, wwe never pull the trigger. this time he won his match, he cashed in! that's what serve all abt!!!

good for dreamer winning. swagger is one of my favourite now. christian may just move on with the harts.

They better not be turning Punk heel with this. In light of their Wellness Program, having the one guaranteed clean guy on the roster as the bad guy to the super druggie not only sends the wrong message to the roster, but to the children who they seem to want to market their product toward.

Alright all let's make this short and pertinent.
Heel punk =/= $$$.
If they want to freshen up the main event scene this is by far the best way to do so.

I'm glad i didn't buy this crap.

Edge should of had a loooooooooong run with the belt, neither Jeff nor CM Punk deserve to even get a sniff at the belt.

SUPER CENA beats the big show for the 500th time in some bullshit way.

Batista wins the belt again whoop-dee-doo, well at least Orton isn't running around with it anymore because really he doesn't deserve to even look at it.

I'm glad to read that Tommy Dreamer won the ECW belt, I knew he was going to win after I his new music when I watched ECW on tuesday.

I also liked that the WWE actually put the US title and the IC title on the PPV. Way to go WWE.

For all those complaining about a Punk heel turn and saying that it doesn't fit in with the current image... quit your bitching.

I am by no means a ROHbot in any way, shape, or form, but lemme tell ya... when Punk was there... he was one of the best heels going. His promos were off the friggin chart. There's a reason a lot of us old Punk fans lost interest in him when he entered the WWE: he was just a bland babyface that was "addicted to competition." There's a reason we marked out when he turned on the ECW Originals and joined the New Breed. We thought it was the return of our heel Punk.

Here's hoping that THIS TIME, WWE let's him heel it up and we can show these kiddies the Punk of old.

Lets see, when Punk first came into the WWE I heard so much about how great he was and saw quite frankly a guy who was unwatchable. Through out his period in ECW, into RAW it was how good he was and yet all I saw and heard was a joke on the mike and nothing special in the ring. Now I'm supposed to believe "Oh wait Dave, as a heel he's really good". I'd buy the Brooklyn Bridge before I'd swallow that load of nonsense.

Every title except the US changed hands. I didn't see that coming. Heel Punk (if they go that route) could be the right push to keep him at the main event level.

Nah, the Freebirds had a shorter title reign than Jeff. They actually had a title reign that lasted a negative number of days. (A reign of -6 days believe it or not. That's the shortest I know of.)

Tommy Dreamer, Jeff Hardy, and CM Punk all winning titles in one night. Too bad WWE's generated too much bad will in me for me to have ordered the show tonight. I figured everything I wanted to happen wouldnt happen, like most of their shows for the past 5 years. Oh well, it'll be on netflix soon enough.

Dreamer winning=transitional champ. It's a good way to see if Tyson Kidd can draw when he takes the belt. It's mark proof they got heels and faces to take it off him, and no one loses heat.

I am happy for Punk but I just can't help feeling sorry for Jeff. His first title reign was just awful with the attacks and everything hindering him from performing or really even enjoying his title reign with the fans. And now tonight it couldn't last for 5 minutes. He's been in so many matches for the title and always ends up short, even when he wins. I know he has a dark past, but sometimes.........I just feel sorry for him. Here's hoping to a successful title reign for Punk though. Best of luck to him

first of all i hate the way wwe is trying to make such a big deal of Mysterio losing his mask. he wrestled in wcw for a long time without his mask on. everyone who watched wcw already know mostly what he looks like.
secondly i would have liked to see hard carry the belt for a little while before punk took it, but i am satified that punk took the belt. anyone but edge at this point is great. edge is so lame. they need to just kill him and vicky for all our sakes.
third cena is getting old anyway so no one really cares anymore. and big show just needs to leave.
fourth some one please kill jericho.
fifth batista is so borring i slept through the match and orton needs to die as well.
sixth santina is so much beeter than vicky anyway. and such cute little piggies!

Show sucked.

Anything where they continue to attempt to pass off 'Santina' is complete and utter bullshit.

Tommy Dreamer actually picking up a pinfall?

We've only seen Edge/Hardy about a billion times. So no originality there at all.

Jericho/Mysterio. What is this, WCW circa 1997?

THIS is supposed to be better than TNA or ROH? Gimme a fuckin' break.

What a waste of money that I'll never get back. I actually gave this one a chance and feel completely ripped off.

Sports entertainment my eye!

Well, that's extremely narrow minded. Putting the title on Punk was the right move because Jeff Hardy NEEDED that win over Edge to remain credible. And hell, he wasn't exactly made into a bitch by Punk, either. HE KICKED OUT OF THE GTS and tried to fight back!

But the reason taking the title off Hardy was necessary was because IF (and that's a key word) Jeff decided not to re-sign, he could easily take WWE's title with him to another organiztion. Do you really think Vince is stupid enough to overlook that possibility and not take a preventative measure?

So it had nothing to do with Jeff Hardy sending the wrong message. If anything, he sent the right message by coming back from his drug suspension last year and acknowledging his mistakes and promising to make good on them.

So never jump to conclusions. I don't know whether or not you've seen CM Punk work as a heel, but he did an excellent job of it in ROH. So, they CAN pull this off right. Don't crap on it just yet.

Posted By: APrince66 (Guest) on June 07, 2009 at 11:46 PM"

It was either in 1997 or 1998. Jericho unmasked Rey in WCW...same feud...same gimmick. WWE doesn't seem content re-doing storylines now they want to do re-run whole feuds/angles it seems while acting like they're new.

The US title match sounded great on the PPV though.

Wow. Poor Jeff, two-time champion but has never successfully defended it. Third, more convincing reign coming later this year I feel.

Batista winning isn't a huge shock even providing his injury, but the consensus is that he's having surgery on Tuesday so he's almost certain to lose the belt on Raw tonight. Maybe they fear he won't be back, so they wanted to give him one last victory to ride off on. I'm sure all will become clear tonight.

As for Dreamer winning, all I can say is that I'm stunned...that nobody else saw it coming. Seriously, did anybody actually believe he was retiring after this match? Come off it. This was the most cast-iron result of the show.

Also Im really looking forward to seeing a heel Punk aswell.

Good show.

First, for anyone who doubts what Punk can do as a heel...go to YouTube and pull up some old heel Punk clips from FIP and ROH!

Second, Punk is only a heel this time becuase he cashed in on a face...when he did it last summer, Edge got what he had coming..how hard is that to understand?

Third, Edge's title reigns are short to highlight the fact that he has won ALL his titles by nefarious means, the problem is he can figure out how to screw someone out of their title, but he can't seem to keep it much longer...I think its a pretty subtle character trait..what's so hard to understand about that?

Fourth, Jericho should be booking for the entire company!

Fifth...seeing as I'm a huge Punk MARK let me just say...PUNK WINS, PUNK WINS, PUNK WINS, PUNK WINS...I'M CM PUNK, AND IM BETTER THAN YOU!

Until CM Punk develops a finisher more devastating than the weak knee graze into the chest, he's not going to be taken seriously. Amazing how the IWC will bitch nonstop about HHH's "knee-based offense" but jizz their collective Underoos when Punk tries to pass off the GTS as a legit finisher.

When the Anaconda Vice (aka "the glorified armbar") looks like the more impressive match ender, you know there's a problem.

"why is everyone complaining about short title reigns? in the 'Attitude' era they did this all the time."

It sucked then too. One of the reasons I never really cared for Russo after 1998.

I'm happy for Punk, and if we get the old school Straight Edge heel coming from it, Smackdown can pencil me in as a new viewer, but I can't help but feel this cheapens the belt. Not to mention the fact that they seem to pull this "Wrestler X steals the title" crap once a week now.

Again, happy for Punk, but the Money in the Bank concept officially jumped the shark for me with this one.

Good show. Sagged in the middle, but the opening bouts were great and Edge and Hardy was insane. That reverse suplex into the upside-down ladder looked brutal...at least until the off the ladder/onto the ladder spot. Crazy.

Best match was definitely Rey vs Jericho. Great chemistry and great old school finish. Both of 'em are awesome. Cena had his bumping shoes on against Show, but that match could have lost 7 minutes easy. I don't understand Orton losing to Batista...Orton is by far the more interesting performer. Never was a Dreamer fan, but nice to give him one last bit of glory.

Loved how they had Ross in the ring right before Punk's cash-in...little details like that sell the surprise so much better. I'm stoked for a potential Punk heel champion run. Give him the patience you showed HHH and Rock back in the day (I don't know if anyone remembers, but the fans crapped all over those two as not being top level when they were first given the belt) and Punk could be huge. Glad I ordered the PPV, got my money's worth.

Even without SuperCena he was going to win this match. Show's big vulnerability has ALWAYS been submission holds, and Cena actually has a finisher-level hold (yeah, I know, but that's how it's treated).

I'm not sure why everyone thinks this will be the birth of heel punk.

Just took the opportunity when he needed to I think.

We've only seen Edge/Hardy about a billion times. So no originality there at all.

Yet you still say you ordered the ppv? either your lying or your an idiot.

edge is so lame. they need to just kill him and vicky for all our sakes.
third cena is getting old anyway so no one really cares anymore. and big show just needs to leave.
fourth some one please kill jericho.
fifth batista is so borring i slept through the match and orton needs to die as well.

So who do you LIKE?

Please forgive me if I have this all wrong...but is the bashing of Cena really necessary? I wouldn't think he has creative control over whether or not his character jobs. So, isn't he just doing what he is told? If some/a lot of people want to hate his character, I realize I'm not going to change that. But, shouldn't the hate go more towards the bookers/WWE management than to Cena? The guy is over and I am not ashamed to say that I am a fan of his and he is the #1 face of the company.

Heel Punk would actually work extremely well espacially if they bring back his catch phrase "I'm straight edge that means I'm better than you!" and then have him back in up by saying how everyone else wrestling years and years to be a 5 time champion and how he did it in two. the 5 mentioned are ECW, WWE Champ, I.C. Belt, Tag Champ, and World title, seriously just have him brag like that in a self righteous fashion instant heel gold its that simple.

By far the worst PPV offering by WWE this year. The event sucked ass.

Just out of curiosity...how many people here complaining actually SAW the show? If you did and didn't like it, fair play, but it seems kind of odd to crap over something you DIDN'T see. I thought it was an entertaining PPV (and having been a fan since the 70's, I've seen a lot of wrestling), but I came to that conclusion by...you know...actually watching it. Again, it's cool to go off if you saw it and didn't feel you got the bang for your buck, but to get all hissy from just reading the results? That's like saying a movie sucks by reading the plot outline.

I mean, I saw the last ROH show in Toronto, and it was the same thing..."I'm glad I didn't watch this garbage." Thing is, *anyone* who was there would have told you it was money well spent. The amount of pre-judging is pretty crazy.

Punk?!! Punk wins!!! When his music hit my heart sank. Some of us dont like straight edged. No drink no drugs. Now Jeff theres a drug addict you can really like. Punk?! Thats boring homes.
He's a tool.
What does he like what does he do? Then it hits me. Hey punk do you like fishticks? Do you like puting fishticks in your mouth? Then PUNK YOUR A GAY FISH!!

the way i would've ended the PPV would have been to not have played CM Punks music and just have him run in and catch Hardy as he was coming down off the ladder right into the GTS, all with edge watched while crucified on the ladder.

The rate at which Edge looses titles and then regains he might surpase Ric Flair's record b4 triple H does. Creative will never let Cena lose cleanly to any one else, he wont even suggest it himself. Thats 1 one of the biggest reasons i hate Cena. Even HHH, Austin, Rock, Angle jobbed or lost (a few times) once they were solidified main eventers. On Jeff Hardy, hopefully he will get a solid WWE Champion or WHC run for few once he truly wins a championship. Last but not least WWE do no, i beg of you, DO NOT flush Punks championship run down the drain like last time.

I dunno... to all those saying the PPV sucked... I pretty much shelled out the money just to watch what I thought would be Dreamer's last match, and I felt I got my money's worth. Every match seemed to deliver on some level, whether it be telling a story or work rate (yes... even the cage match... but it was the low point on the card for me as well).

Question: are you smarks ever happy? With anything?

Brandon, how do you know that Cena doesn't suggest it himself? Most of us don't know what goes on behind the curtains. If you don't like him, like many others, fine. But, I don't think you have made a good point here.

I'm not a CM Punk fan but I nearly fell out my seat when he cashed in as I dont think that Hardy is WHC material. Cena/Show was the worst match on the card. We've seen Cena beat the odds a GABILLION times with Show repeatedly, Khali and still we are forced to watch him have the same slow match as we all knew it would be, I would have much rather seen Miz and Cena atleast we could have gotten some fast paced action out of it. I don't get the Batista injury and still winning the title bit myself, maybe he's considering working through it. But I dont think you can compare Kennedy to Batista, Kennedy has been given chance after chance after chance and I think because of the movie and MITB match he won he thinks he's better than he actually is, despite Batista's injuries he has atleast proven himself to TPTB

I think they might HAVE to make Punk heel - the crowd was not into him cashing in at all. Most of what I heard were boos.

Although really the crowd was dead all night long anyways.

did orton really lose the belt or am I missing something? such bullshit if he did

For a bloodless night of extreme they put a on an awesome show that kept you interested all night. That is except for the boring ass submission match and the fact that DAVE is a champ again. Hopefully for only one day. I love the main event and will not hate on Punk cashing in. Thats saying alot for me being the big Edge mark that I am. But if you don't believe that Jericho vs. Mysterio wasn't the match of the night then you need the Wellness. Amazing action and an awesome close to the match. And for all the people saying we seen this before, yeah but it was over 10 years ago whereas most of the rey fans were too young to remeber or still swimming in their daddy's sack. And I'm pretty sure it was Kevin Nash not Jericho that did it the first time.

first of all i hate the way wwe is trying to make such a big deal of Mysterio losing his mask. he wrestled in wcw for a long time without his mask on. everyone who watched wcw already know mostly what he looks like.
secondly i would have liked to see hard carry the belt for a little while before punk took it, but i am satified that punk took the belt. anyone but edge at this point is great. edge is so lame. they need to just kill him and vicky for all our sakes.
third cena is getting old anyway so no one really cares anymore. and big show just needs to leave.
fourth some one please kill jericho.
fifth batista is so borring i slept through the match and orton needs to die as well.
sixth santina is so much beeter than vicky anyway. and such cute little piggies!
bye for now.

Cena has jobbed clean to Triple H, Batista, Edge in the Elimination Chamber, Big Show on Smackdown, and Shawn Michaels on Raw in the last 12 months...

Thats more clean jobs than Hogan did from 1984-1993. Get over yourselves.

"kennedy is injury prone = gets fired

Of course, the difference is...

Batista = still over with fans

Kennedy = still over only with 5 IWC smarks

FUCK!!! the whole point of THIS show was to bring Manu back into the fold. I guess I will have to try harder to bring back each and every single former fan one pay per view at a time.

Don't forget, the aim of this year's Survivor Series is to bring Scrotum Pole back by actually having JR have a stroke and try to survive for real.

I love you, little whiny fans. It is the sand in your collective vaginas that makes me want to hire you all so that you can remake the Attitude era and kill the industry in the process.

I cant see Punk staying face if hes gonna fued with Jeff a while, no way will he get cheered over him, plus Punk needs a change i think.

I can also see Edge turning face soon aswell, hes fueded with Jeff, Taker & Rey many times & i think it will open up new matches if he goes face.

Posted By: jbardo (Guest)  on June 08, 2009 at 01:57 PM

Oh, and how could I forget? CM Punk baby! Does this mean Jeff has the shortest title reign in history? I assume his reign was shorter than Yokozuna's and Andre's is a little foggy. It's at least the shortest World title reign if not the shortest WWE title reign. Gotta love it.

Druggie boy gets killed by the straight edge superstar. Jeff's going to need extra crack to get over this one.

Posted By: Ron Mexico (Guest) on June 08, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Jeff World Title Reign is 2 minutes, Shortest reign in the World Heavyweight Title and it's origin WCW Title. Andre's title reign is reportedly 10 seconds long (how that number came up I have no idea) but it should be discounted cause it led to the title being vacated immediately. So yes Jeff Hardy has the shortest WWE World title.

Anyone comparing Kennedy to Batista is a fool. If Kennedy got half the reaction Dave gets when his music hits, he might still have a job. But being over with the few thousand people on the internet doesn't equal a Big Money Draw - so Dave will keep his job since he sells 30-times as much merchandise and PPV buys to all the marks out there than Kennedy has or ever will in his life.

FUCK YES PUNK WINS. Main event and ending saved the match. Beating the top face and acting a bit cocky afterwards HAS to be enough for a heel turn. For you ignorant Meth Hardy marks, please google CM Punk's promos in Ring of Honour. HE'S COMING BACK BITCHES. STRAIGHT EDGE AND BETTER THAN YOU.

Could be a REAL good natural feud... the former drug addled guy vs the angry straight edge guy? Could be money.

CM Punk winning the Title like this doesn't give him credibility as a champion. He won the Title the last time by cashing in the MITB after a match. It sounds smart and logical to do that but it doesn't give him the credibility until he wins the Title straight up.

Posted By: Slave1 (Guest)  on June 08, 2009 at 06:37 PM

They have to have a vacant title, Batista relinquishes it due to injury like he did LAST time, that way they can start the whole cena, Orton, HHH, love triangle all over again once HHH comes back. They run the same plots over and over again. it is actually pretty sad.

I just watch now for Santino becaue he is pretty funny, and has been for a ong time, just under used. But now that they realize their product is failing on its "legit" level they are mucking up the comedy routines. Hornswoggle, Khali kiss cam, Santino, so they are basically throwing funny stuff at the wall to see what sticks. The wrestling product is washed up, as is their scenarios for trying to promote it.

But they are also stuck with not being able to attract a new audience. That's why they need to recylce these has beens. How long have they been trying to push Shelton Benjamin over? Seems like a decade, but people can't get with him, good, bad, when his mom is in his corner. So he has now come full circle and back with Charlie Haas. Oh yea, the Haas stuff was pretty funny too when he dressed like other guys and used his name with theirs, but that didn't last long. But better than some of the actual wrestling they have.

Its a good gimmick show now, but not much of anything else.

Last time Punk had the title, Orton punted him in the head before his 4th title match and never even came close to getting the title back. Punk has no good promos his first time around, maybe this time they will be ''forreal'' when they do it. He has the potential to be great but lack of storylines makes the current-day WWE dull and vague. Edge and Christian Reunion would be nice though. However, title changes are too common these days. Ray Y2J Match was best of the night followed closely by the Main event with Edge and Jeff. Punk heel turn would be new, but im sure it will end like crap. The WWE aint what it used to be. There used to be key names in each division in wrestling, and each having their own storyline. I mean what ever happaned to a good promo? I cant remember a good build-up to a ppv in YEARS. Triple H retains gold at main event at Wrestlemania, I mean cmon. Extreme-Rules ppv was good. The 3 main titles have changed hands and the title that represents raw looks to change again soon, as Batista the Animal, will be having another operation soon. It will be intresting to say the least, to see where the WWE goes. To me, the last names anyone remembers are getting old and tired. If Cena is around in 5 years, you have my permission to shoot me. Chris Benoit really hurt the WWE and it doesnt look like its getting any better. Not quality wise and not business wise.

To the surprise of no one, every match RAW had was terrible, apart from the opener which was criminally short :(

Smackdown is the king of everything.

ECW has Tommy Dreamer as champion, and I think that's a nice way to put over everything Dreamer has done. Will be interesting to see the direction they now take.

In response to the Dreamer questions, his last PPV match was at last year's Great American Bash when he lost a ECW Title match to Mark Henry when Colin Delaney turned on him.

His last PPV win was at the 07 One Night Stand when he teamed with CM Punk and Sandman to beat Elijah Burke/Matt Striker/Marcus Cor Von in a Table match

Hey Ron Mexico, just thought I'd answer your question. I actually timed Hardy's title reign and it beat Yokozuna's two minute reign. Not by much though. Funny as hell thing is Jeffykins has won the WWE and World Title belts and Matt has only won the ECW Midcard/World/Shit belt. Oh, and fuck Batista. Piece of shit didn't deserve a title win.
