411's WWE Superstars Report 06.11.09
Posted by Rob McNew on 06.11.2009

-Hosted by Michael Cole, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Josh Mathews, Matt Striker, Todd Grisham, & Jim Ross

Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendes vs. The Bella Twins
Well can Beth successfully carry these three to a watchable match? Rosa starts with Nikki and grabs a side headlock, but Nikki armdrags out and rolls up Nikki for two. Tag to Brie and a double armdrag gets two. Rosa gets shot to the Bella corner and monkeyflipped out. Nikki tags in with a necksnap for one, but Rosa grabs a headlock and tags in Beth. Nikki tries for a single leg, but Beth grabs an armbar to break. Nikki forearms out, and then Brie tags in with a double dropkick. Beth answers with a double clothesline to the twins for two. Brie gets fired into the corner, and Beth buries a shoulderblock into the midsection. Beth misses a corner charge allowing Nikki to tag in, and she comes in with a pair or dropkicks. High elbow from Nikki sets up a drop toehold to the bottom rope. Nikki hits an X-Factor, but Rosa distracts the official. Brie pulls her off the apron, but the time allows Beth to hit the glam slam which finishes at 3:25. The Bellas seemed on their game, and Beth was up to the task. Nothing terrible here at all.
Winners: Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendes (Phoenix pins Nikki-Glam Slam **)

-Recap of the WWE Title controversy from Monday

Evan Bourne vs. Zack Ryder
I'm telling you, Ryder will get over if they give him any type of chance. This is a great gimmick. Ryder is wearing tape over his ribs selling injuries from the SSP on Tony Atlas Tuesday. Bourne hits an armdrag at the outset, so Ryder bails to the corner. Bourne grabs a hammerlock, and then armdrags him over. Ryder reaches the rope, and then delivers a right hand . He bails to the rope, and then delivers a thumb to the eyes when Bourne goes after him. Bourne reverses a second rope snap mare into a hurracanrana, and then hits a dropkick for two. Ryder comes back with a corner shoulderblock, and then a backdrop sends Ryder to the apron. Ryder hits a kneelift to Bourne as he comes back in, and grabs a reverse chinlock. Bourne hits a backslide for two, and then a legdrop across the back of the neck. Bourne heads to the top for the SSP, but gets caught by Ryder and pushed off. Ryder covers for two and we head to break. Back from commercial Ryder hits a flapjack for two, and delivers a suplex for another two count. Ryder grabs a bodyscissor, but Bourne counters into a half crab. Ryder comes out of that, and delivers a kick to the ribs. Reverse suplex by Ryder gets two, and Ryder locks in a Dragon Sleeper!?! He lets go of that and grabs a waistlock, but Bourne elbows out. Ryder misses a dropkick, and Bourne is able to hit one putting both men down. Bourne hits a hurracanrana, and a spin kick to the head. Bourne hits a running clothesline for two, but Ryder grabs a single leg. Bourne answers with a enzaguri, but Ryder is right back with jumping pin combo of some kind for a two count. Ryder puts Bourne on the top rope for a superplex, but Bourne is able to fight him off and hit the Shooting Star Press that finishes at 11:56. Thats right Bourne and Ryder got 12 minutes on television. And people complain about this show?
Winner: Evan Bourne (Pinfall-Shooting Star Press ***)

Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison
Oh this should be good. Jim Ross calls Morrison a "main event waiting to happen." He also gets a jab in at Raw mentioning that Smackdown again gets the main event slot on Superstars. Jericho bails to the floor after Morrison gets the better or a lockup. Back inside Jericho grabs a headlock, and hits a shoulderblock. Jericho hits the ropes, and runs into an armdrag from Morrison. Jericho hits a forearm to come out of an armbar, and then rams Morrison into the top buckle. Morrison fights back with a forearm, and then hits a heel kick. Armdrag from Morrrison allows him to go right back to the armbar. Morrison grabs a double leg takedown, and then goes back to the armbar. Jericho gets a right hand off the corner break to gain control, and then hits a kneelift. Jericho rams Morrison into the buckle again, but runs into a boot in the corner. Morrison hits a clothesline sending Jericho over the top to the floor, and then hits a corkscrew splash over the top rope. Morrison tries to springboard back inside, but Jericho gets to the ropes to knock him off as we head to break. Back from commercial and Jericho slingshots Morrison under the bottom rope. Jericho sends Morrison to the floor with a springboard dropkick, and then catches him coming in with a running kick. Back suplex from Jericho sets up reverse chinlock. Morrison comes back with a backbreaker and side Russian legsweep for two. Jericho comes right back with a running enzaguri for two. Jericho chokes out Morrison on the second rope, and then delivers a headbutt. Jericho locks in a double arm chickenwing, but Morrison comes free with an elbow. Morrison charges into a boot from Jericho who heads to the second rope, but dives into a fist from Morrison. Morrison hits a dropkick, and goes for the moonlight drive which is countered by Jericho. Morrison comes right back with a tornado DDT for two, and then whips Jericho to the buckle. Charge at Jericho comes up empty, and Morrison gets hit with a running bulldog. Jericho goes for the lionsault, but comes up empty. Morrison hits the "flying Chuck" a springboard spinkick for two. Jericho comes right back with a codebreaker attempt that misses, and Morrison answers with a running knee to a seated Jericho for two. Jericho hits a heel trip and goes for the Walls, but Morrison counters. Jericho charges into the corner, but misses allowing Morrison to go up top for Starship Pain. Jericho moves out of the way of that and goes for the Walls again. Morrison counters into a rollup for two, but Jericho counters into a rollup of his own and with a handful of trunks gets the three count at 12:53. This was an amazing match, and a serious contender for WWE free TV match of the year. Morrison continues to look like the next mega star while Jericho stays the most over heel on the roster.
Winner: Chris Jericho (Pinfall-Rollup ****)

Morrison counter of the walls was awesome and Jericho is well JERICHO! he said on twitter that he was a good match and he didnt lie. Diva stuff was decent and the Bourne/Ryder shows that if u get the time and are good than u can get over with the fans and have a good match. GREAT episode again!

Another good show, I don't get why people come on here and bash the show, they probably never seen it themselves

Great, great show.

Jericho/Morrison was fantastic, but that's nothing to be surprised about. These are two of the best WWE has to offer when it comes to in-ring skill. Morrison is starting to get super over with the fans, and hopefully his rising popularity and his in-ring work translates to some singles gold soon. Personally, I'm hoping this Shelton massacre ends soon and Morrison starts a feud with a returning Kane.

Gotta hand it to Zach Ryder too. That match with Bourne was his best piece of work yet. I was skeptical when they strutted him out there in purple and peach and gave him that pansy entrance music, but he could easily become a quality midcard guy at the very least.

...WOO WOO WOO, YOU KNOW IT!

so which is better: Superstars or Smackdown?

I don't really understand your Diva match ratings. -** on Raw, * the next Raw, DUD the next, and ** after that. Their recent TV matches have not been nearly that unique and different from one to the next.

This week Superstars showed us.....

Zack Ryder is not bad

Jericho is awesome

Morrison is without a doubt going to be a main eventer

Raw isn't the B or C show, it's the D show.

"Anyone know when/where it airs now? It was showing on WGN on Sunday mornings, but now I can't find the shizz anywhere!!!"

WGN on Thursday evenings. AKA "why there's a recap for the episode on Thursday night".

If I ever have a Thursday night off from work I know what the hell I'll be watching...

And I'm not going to be "crossing the line" to watch a bunch of geezers.

so morrison is a face now? Not even a tweener? that sucks. There is no need for fans in the palace of wisdom

Posted By: Guest#1282 (Guest)  on June 12, 2009 at 04:28 AM

Who would of ever thought Raw would be the 4th show interms of quality. Sometimes I think am I being to 'smarkish' about that but it really is the 4th best show wwe put on in a weekly basis.

It would be eating crow except for the fact I've been saying it all along.

Morrison will never be a main eventer despite his talents cause when it comes down to actually main eventing him... WWE won't do it and instead will give us Orton, HHH, Cena, Batista, or whoever else that has already main evented for years now.. the glass ceiling will always be there.

Posted By: Jerry (Guest)  on June 12, 2009 at 08:17 AM

I'm no Zack Ryder fan, but I was surprised/impressed to see them give the Bourne vs. Ryder match a good chunk of time. Solid preparation by whoever was planning it, and great booking by whoever was writing it. This is how talent gets over.

Posted By: CanadianCrippler (Guest)  on June 12, 2009 at 09:04 AM

Morrison-Jericho was very good, but nowhere near WWE Free TV MOTY. Again, good, but nothing near Bourne-Morrison from early April or Cage-TJ from ECW last week, or a # of other matches.

OK, genius. Just ignore the fact that Edge and Jeff Hardy are main eventing on Smackdown and that CM Punk is the Champ. Yeah, nobody ever breaks into the main event. Breaking into the main event SHOULD be very hard ... if people like you had their way, everyone would be main eventing and everyone would get a turn with the world title and it wouldn't mean jack anymore.

Man, Superstars sounds like a good show. I just need to remember to set my recorder for Thursday nights!

Posted By: NoirFan01 (Guest)  on June 12, 2009 at 03:03 PM

Chicago does not have Superstars on Thursday night. It has it on Sunday morning. I don't know why but it has something to do with the World's Greatest Network that was started here.

Posted By: ATTENTION CHICAGO! (Guest)  on June 12, 2009 at 05:07 PM

I am in agreement with all of those who thought Superstars was a great show. And all of you whiners who say "Cancel the show" can take that line and shove it up their ass.

Superstars: Great show
ECW: Great show
Smackdown: Great show

If the creative team of Raw wakes up, then WWE WILL be on the comeback trail and will tell Jeff Jarrett that he isn't going to shut them down.

" if people like you had their way, everyone would be main eventing and everyone would get a turn with the world title and it wouldn't mean jack anymore. "

The world title doesn't mean jack anymore and maybe I should rephrase what I sent... maybe he'll main event someday.. but there's a difference in main eventing and being taken seriously by the company.
