411's WWE Smackdown Report 06.12.09
Posted by JP Truss on 06.12.2009

Welcome to 411's Weekly Smackdown! Report. I am JP Truss your play-by-play man for Smackdown! . J.R. and Todd Grisham are at ringside.

The NEW World Champion Speaks!
Justin Roberts announces the NEW World Champion: CM Punk! The crowd is clearly divide on the new champion and Punk grabs the mic. Punk says he'll cut right to the chase because he wants to clear up a few things. He's heard the grumblings from the fans and in the back that say he "stole" the World Heavyweight Championship from Jeff Hardy. Punk says he doesn't see it that way. He didn't see it that way last year when he cashed it in on Edge and, as he points out to the fans, neither did they. Punk says he wouldn't take it back because he is proud to stand in the ring YOUR World Heavyweight Champion for the second time! Punk says he earned the right to cash in Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania, and last Sunday was an opportunity to become World Heavyweight Champion staring him in the face and he took it. That doesn't make CM Punk a bad guy: it's the entire purpose of Money in the Bank.

Game. Set. Match to Mr. Punk.

Now, Punk admits it wasn't the most popular decision but Punk has never done anything just to be popular. Punk points out that he was worked hard to obtain. The World Heavyweight Championship is the entire reason he is a WWE Superstar! Punk promises to bring honor and respect back to the championship and represent Smackdown to the best of his ability but before he can finish Jeff Hardy interrupts him.

Jeff grabs a microphone and says he's not out here to complain, but he doesn't think Punk earned it. Jeff tells him that even though he had the right to do what he did he did it on the wrong guy. Punk says he understands that Jeff was upset but asks Jeff to understand where he is coming from. Punk didn't put Jeff in a Ladder Match: Jeff did. Jeff Hardy chose a Ladder Match and the minute he did Punk decided that was the night to cash it in. It didn't matter to him who won, he was going to do it anyway. It just so happened to be Jeff Hardy. Punk tells him 'Them's the breaks' but Jeff doesn't seem to be accepting of Punk's rationale. Jeff says the he 'senses' selfishness in Punk's actions. Jeff asks him if he even cares about his fans but clearly Punk doesn't seem to mind. Jeff demands a rematch tonight and you know it's only going to bring out one man.

Edge arrives and says that he is the only one that deserves a rematch for the World Championship. Jeff tells Edge that he is the one who won the Ladder Match and tells him that this wasn't about Edge. Punk agrees, telling Edge to beat it but Edge refuses to leave: reminding the both that neither of them combined haven't held the title as many times as him. FACTS!

Edge then points out that although Jeff has originally; he still can't figure Punk out. But finally he knows: CM Punk wants to be like Edge! Punk laughs as Edge points out that his "unique" lifestyle 'Straight-Edge'. HELLLO?! He also cashed in Money in the Bank successfully twice; just like Edge. But he will never be Edge. The 'Straight Edge' thing: classic Edge moment. Edge then tells Jeff that he's going to have to get behind him because Edge will get his rematch first because if anyone deserves one its him!

Edge: Get it? Got it? GOOD!

Jeff immediately retaliates, knocking Edge out of the ring and taking down Punk with a Twist of Fate! Swanton Bomb on the Champion! That look like it hurt Punk but Jeff is standing tall. Jeff celebrates as Theodore Long arrives on the scene, making a #1 Contenders Match between Jeff Hardy and Edge for later tonight!

Chris Jericho Will Be Respected!
As we return from the commercials Theodore R. Long has just made it back to his office where the new Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho is waiting. Jericho demands to know why he isn't getting a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship tonight. He says this is just another sign that he is being disrespected by Long and the WWE. Jericho runs down his accolades and says by virtue of that he should be the number one contender. Jericho demands that Long makes things 'right' and Long books him in a match against CM Punk. Jericho seems to approve of the decision and leaves.

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Great Khali w/ Runjin Singh

Apparently Dolph Ziggler requested this rematch. Well, I guess he's got a plan or knows some way to beat Khali. I would hope anyway.

The bell rings and Ziggler avoids Khali by sliding out of the ring. It seems to be apart of the greater plan anyway. Ziggler slides in and ducks under Khali again and starts throwing punches, none of which actually work. Khali finally stops him and shoves him into ropes, catching him with a big right on the rebound. Ziggler spirals out of the ring, clearly upset.

Ziggler gets on the apron and starts arguing with the referee on the ropes, getting in a smack to Khali which only upsets the big man. Khali tosses Ziggler back into the ring. Ziggler gets back to his feet and walks into a big right from Khali. Khali pulls him to his feet and knocks him sideways with a knife edge chop. Khali pulls Ziggler up again and goes for a clothesline but Ziggler manages to pull himself to the apron and pulls Khali's arm hard onto the top rope. Ziggler gets back into the ring and goes after the legs of Khali, finally taking him down with a chop block. Ziggler goes for a front headlock but Khali easily gets to his feet and hauls Ziggler off. Khali whips Ziggler to the ropes and hits him with a big boot. Khali calls for the choke bomb but Ziggler rolls out of the ring to avoid it. Khali heads out of the ring after him and Ziggler takes a hostage in Runjin Singh. Ziggler uses Singh as a shield and keeps Khali moving before hurling Singh at Khali and slides back into the ring just as the referee counts to ten! Ziggler has beaten the Great Khali!

Winner:Dolph Ziggler (Victory via Countout) *3/4

Grisham and JR pimps tonight's main event before heading to commercials.

Michelle McCool and Layla w/ Alicia Fox vs. Eve Torres and Melina

Grisham is clearly distracted and says we're getting ready for a 'six Diva tag match'. You wish Grish. We start this one off with Eve and Layla. They tie up and Layla takes control with a knee and take down. Layla whips Eve to the corner and charges after her but Eve blocks with an elbow. Layla tries again but Eve dives out of the way. Eve hits a dropkick and goes for a roll up but gets a quick count. Eve gets in a few shots and goes for an Irish Whip but Layla reverses it into the corner. Eve tries to float over but Layla catches her and drives her face-first into the mat.

Layla tags in Michelle McCool who immediately goes on the attack with knee strikes to the lower back of Eve. Michelle pulls up Eve and hits a side Russian leg sweep, turning it into a rear chin lock. Eve struggles as the referee checks on her before she gets free with a sitting jawbreaker. Eve kicks out Michelle's leg and goes for the corner. Michelle tries to cut her off but she's too late and Melina gets the tag.

Melina fights Michelle out of the corner and takes her down with a clothesline. Dos clotheslines! Melina bounces off the ropes and hits a sweet Tilt-A-Whirl into a back kick that drops McCool. Melina goes for a pin and gets the one count. The ladies continue to slug it out until McCool goes for a big boot, which Melina evades. Melina goes for her back hand bridge kick (need a better name for that) but McCool catches her and flips the champion up right. The ladies charge at each other and Melina catches her with a huge swinging takedown. Melina goes for another pin and it's broken up by Layla. Eve comes in as Layla celebrates and knocks her out of the ring with a one-legged dropkick.

McCool takes advantage of the distraction with a European Uppercut. McCool whips Melina to the corner but Melina blocks with a knee. Melina sets up for the Screaming High Impact Sunset Flip (this also needs a better name) but gets distracted by A. Fox. McCool reverses Melina into the Styles Clash for the victory.

Winner: Michelle McCool and Layla (Pinfall via Styles Clash) *1/2

The heelish girls celebrate as Grisham and JR announce R-Truth and John Morrison will team up to face The Team Formerly Known as The World's Greatest Tag Team NEXT!

R-Truth and John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas

Well, this should be a good one. R-Truth gets a moment to make fun of Haas and Benjamin, telling them their teaming up was like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer doing a rap song: nobody wants to hear it or see them. Eh, I'll give it an B for effort.

We start it off with Benjamin and Morrison. Benjamin shoves Truth on the corner, which gets the referee distracted before he has to stop Truth from coming in the ring. Haas slips in and attacks Morrison from behind. Benjamin takes advantage with a series of stiff punches followed up with a kick to the sternum. Benjamin forces Morrison into the corner, continuing the attack with a huge haymaker. Benjamin takes a breather which allows Morrison to start fighting back. Benjamin ducks under the attack and goes for a German Suplex but Morrison flips backward onto his feet and charges, hitting a Spinning Russian Leg Sweep. Morrison hits the break dancing leg drop and goes for a pin, getting a two count.

Morrison pulls Benjamin to his corner and tags in R-Truth. Truth backs Benjamin to the ropes with a hard strikes before going for a Irish Whip. Benjamin tries to reverse but Truth blocks him with a kick to the gut. Truth goes for the Scissors Kick but Benjamin ducks out of the way and stops Truth with a knee strike. Benjamin whips Truth to the corner and charges but Truth floats over him but Benjamin catches him with a back elbow. Benjamin sets up Truth in the corner, knocking him into place with a few punches before backing up. Benjamin goes for the Stinger Splash but Truth blocks with both boots! Truth flips to the top turnbuckle and Haas tries to distract but is kicked off the apron. Benjamin leaps to the top rope, steadies and suplexes Truth back to the mat! Truth looks like he snapped his spine! Who will win this one? We'll know after the commercial break!

We are back and Benjamin has Truth in the center of the ring with a rear chin lock. Truth struggles to his feet and fights out of it. Truth backs Benjamin up with hard rights, going for a charge but Benjamin counters with a Samoan Drop! Benjamin goes for the pin attempt and gets a near fall. Benjamin tags in Haas. JR notes that the WGTT isn't 'officially' realigned as Benjamin slams Truth onto the knee of Haas. Haas goes for the pin and gets a two count. Haas pulls up Truth and whips him into the corner, hard. Truth falls to the mat and Haas goes for another pin, getting another two count. Haas hooks Truth in a rear chinlock and again Truth is slow to get to his feet, eventually fighting his way out of it. Truth goes for an Irish Whip but Haas answers back with a stiff kick to the jaw! Haas boots Truth into the ropes and catches him with a huge belly-to-belly suplex! Haas got serious hang time on that one! Haas goes for the pin and gets a near fall.

Haas quickly locks in a side headlock, switching to a front headlock as Truth gets to his feet. The crowd tries to rally Truth and he tries to force his way to his corner but Haas stops him with a takedown, more like a modified STO. Haas hooks the ankle and keeps Truth in the middle of the ring. Both struggle to tag their partners and finally Truth kicks Haas off. Truth splits out of the way of a Haas clothesline and leaps for a tag but Haas catches him. Truth again struggles in midair before reversing it into a Sunset Flip. Truth breaks before the count and tags in John Morrison!

Morrison springboards off the top rope and hits Haas with a front dropkick! Haas is on his feet and is taken back down with a clothesline! Spinning flying calf kick! Morrison's on fire! Benjamin tries to attack from the apron but Morrison knocks him off. Haas tries to attack form behind but Morrison side steps him! Morrison springboards off the middle rope and hits the Flying Chuck! Morrison goes for the pin but Benjamin it up. Benjamin stomps Morrison but Truth comes in and takes Benjamin out of the ring with a spinning head scissors take down! Haas takes out Truth! Morrison goes for a kick but Haas catches it. Haas tries to attack but Morrison counters with a Capoeira style kick! Moonlight Drive! Starship Pain! Morrison goes for the pin and this one is over!

Winner: John Morrison and R-Truth (Pinfall via Starship Pain) **3/4

Morrison and R-Truth celebrates their victory as we head to commercial break!

We return and Grisham thanks the fans for viewing Extreme Rules.

Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk

Chris Jericho comes down to the ring with the mask of Rey Mysterio. Nice touch. Jericho takes the mic and says that he believes he is a honest man, a successful man, while 99.9% of the fans are liars and failures. And by unmasking Rey Mysterio he has relieved him of the burden of deceit. Rey Mysterio can walk the streets free without paranoia. But instead of thanking him Rey Mysterio has disappeared. Jericho says that Rey is ashamed now but will one day realize that he was redeemed by his savior: Chris Jericho. And now he will prove that he is better than CM Punk tonight and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Do you understand what he is saying to you right now? Well not really but CM Punk (the official face by default) comes out to stop the speech.

This one starts off with a tie up and Punk takes control with a side headlock. Jericho struggles but Punk takes him down and maintains the hold. Jericho rolls back to his feet and reverses the headlock into an overhead wristlock. Jericho bends Punk backward, demanding the referee ask Punk to quit. Punk refuses and pushes himself back to a vertical base. Punk turns the wristlock back into a headlock and a takedown. The referee goes for the count and Punk gets two. Jericho gets back to his feet, stunning Punk with shots to the kidneys and goes for a back suplex but Punk lands on his feet. Punk kicks Jericho behind the knees and whips him to the ropes, catching him with a back elbow. Punk tries for a pin but Jericho kicks out at one. Punk hooks Jericho into a front headlock and stands him up, going for a vertical suplex but Jericho fights out of it and goes for the Walls of Jericho! Punk struggles, trying to stay on his back and finally kicks Jericho aside. Punk gets on his feet and catches Jericho, going for the GTS but Jericho escapes and slides out of the ring. Can Jericho capitalize and make his case and a World Champion contender? We'll find out after these commercials!

We are back on Smackdown and Jericho whips Punk into the corner. Jericho charges right into a modified Tarantula. The referee begins the count and Punk breaks the hold at 4. Punk steps up to the top turnbuckle and takes Jericho down with a flying cross body. Punk goes for the pin and gets a near fall. Punk pulls Jericho to his feet and goes on the attack with knees to the lower body. Punk goes for the Irish Whip but Jericho counters with a shot to the back. Jericho hangs Punk onto the top rope, stunning him long enough to deliver a springboard dropkick. Jericho taunts the crowd as Punk writhes in pain on the ground. The referee begins the count and Punk slides in at five, but Jericho catches him with a soccer kick to the chest. Jericho hits Punk with a snapmare takedown and hooks in a sleeper hold. Punk struggles, trying to stand but Jericho keeps him grounded. Punk gets back up and breaks the hold with an arm drag. Jericho lands in the corner and Punk goes after him but Jericho counters with a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle. Jericho backs up as Punk gets upright, going for a diving shoulder block but this time its Punk who sidesteps him! Punk hits Jericho with a series of kicks followed by a spinning mule kick. Punk whips Jericho to the ropes and hits a big heel kick. Punk whips Jericho to the corner and nails the running high knee! Bulldog! Punk goes for the pin and gets the near fall.

CM Punk is now in control. Punk sets up Jericho in the corner and is hurled to the ring apron. Punk knocks Jericho out of the way and goes for the springboard clothesline, missing as Jericho ducks! Jericho hits the Lionsault! That could be it! Jericho goes for the pin and gets a near fall! Jericho starts to show a little frustration, slapping Punk to his feet. Jericho goes for the Irish Whip but Punk reverses it into the corner. Punk charges into a back elbow from Jericho. Jericho goes for the charge and Punk counters with a big power slam! Punk goes for the pin and gets a near fall.

Both men are slow to their feet and Punk goes on the attack with kicks to the upper body but Jericho fires back with an enzuguri! Jericho goes for the pin now and gets a near fall. Jericho gets to his feet, measuring Punk and going for a Bulldog but Punk blocks it and tosses Jericho onto the top turnbuckle! Punk sets up for the Go To Sleep, nearly hitting it but Jericho blocks it! Jericho reverses it into the Walls of Jericho! Punk slowly but surely struggles to the bottom rope, finally making it and the referee forces Jericho to break the hold. Punk pulls himself up with the ropes and Jericho tries to attack, but Punk drops Jericho onto the apron and Jericho stuns him with a punch. Jericho goes to the top turnbuckle but Punk catches him with a running Roundhouse kick! Punk steps up to the middle rope and delivers a big superplex! That had to hurt!

Punk crawls into the pin; near fall! Both men slowly get back up and Punk attacks with huge rights and lefts. Punk goes for the spinning backfist and Jericho counters with the Codebreaker! Jericho goes for the pin and Punk gets his foot in the ropes at two! Jericho thinks he's won it but the referee points out Punk's foot. Jericho loses it and goes on the attack, kicking Punk as he rises but Punk answers back with a stiff kick to the head! GO TO SLEEP! Jericho is out! Punk goes for the pin and gets the three!

Winner:CM Punk (Pinfall via GTS) ***1/2

Punk celebrates his victory and the segments of the crowd that still like him cheer him on. The main event is NEXT!

Number One Contenders Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Edge

Is it just me or does Jeff looks like he nearly forgot to put all of his gear on before coming out? He still looks a bit sore from Sunday and I'm sure that'll play into this match. Edge, however, looks pretty confident about this one. Before the bell can ring CM Punk makes an appearance and takes a seat at the broadcast position.

The bell rings and we start it off with a collar elbow tie-up but Jeff is quick to break the hold and each man heads back to opposite corners. Edge tries to go low but Jeff stops him with shots to the back. Edge goes to the corner but Jeff is right behind him, stomping a mud hole into his rival. Both JR and Punk seems to be in agreement that while others disagree, his move at Extreme Rules was the right move. JR's been doing a little tweener work tonight, which he's working pretty well ironically. Jeff takes Edge to the opposite corner face first into the top turnbuckle. Jeff whips Edge hard to the corner and Edge falls to the mat. Jeff pulls him to the center to the ring and drops him with a scoop slam and hits a knee drop to the lower back. Jeff goes for a cover and gets a quick count.

Jeff pulls up Edge and goes for the front suplex but Edge stops him with a shot to the back. Edge goes on the attack, pulling Jeff up and hitting him with shots to the leg and head. Edge chokes Jeff with the top rope which drops him. Edge tries to loosen up and whips him to the corner. Edge goes for a Spear but Jeff rolls out of the way, letting Edge crash into the middle turnbuckle! Edge crashes to the floor! Jeff is down in the ring! Can either of these men win this? We'll find out after these commercials!

We return just as Edge kicks out of a pin attempt. Jeff pulls Edge up and takes him down, hitting a leg drop on the outstretched arm. As Jeff puts in an arm lock we get a replay of Jeff attacking Edge's arm during the commercial break. Jeff hits a knee drop on the arm of Edge and pulls him, wrapping the arm in the rope and pulling back. The referee begins the count and he breaks at 3. Jeff goes for an Irish Whip but Edge reverses it and catches Jeff with a big boot!

Jeff is out of it and Edge tries to get his arm back in working order. Finally he's back on his feet and pulls Jeff up before slamming Jeff face first into the top turnbuckle which drops him. Edge goes on the attack immediately, hitting Jeff with several knees to the lower back. Edge pulls Jeff up and sets him up on the middle rope. Edge goes for a running cross body but Jeff avoids it, leaving Edge to crash and burn! Both men are down!

Edge and Jeff are slow to get up and Jeff strikes first, again going for the front suplex but he is unable to. Edge answers quickly with a chop block! Edge smells blood in the water and goes after Jeff's knee. Edge locks in a single leg death lock and begins hammering the knee. Jeff manages to fight out of it but Edge is up faster. Edge goes for a Irish Whip but Jeff reverses it into a lariat takedown! Both men rise and Jeff attacks with a clothesline. Jeff tries to follow up but Edge again attacks the leg. Jeff fight out of it and tries to go to the top but Edge shoves him down, hanging him up by the bad leg! Edge is down again! Jeff crashes to the mat! Who will survive this one? We'll find out after these commercials!

We are back and Edge is back on the attack, targeting the knee. Edge drags Jeff's leg out of the ring and slams the knee into the ring post. Both men are outside of the ring and Edge is slow to follow up, finally putting back into the ring at five. Edge goes for the pin, hooking the leg, but only gets the near fall. Edge goes back on the attack and hooks the leg in the deathlock. Jeff struggles and hooks in a chin lock! Both me struggle for supremacy with Edge getting the upper hand and breaks the hold, attacking the leg and seeming to go for a Figure Four Leg Lock but Jeff kicks him out of the ring. Edge lands on his feet and goes to the top rope! Edge goes for the Double Axe Handle but Jeff blocks it with a kick. Snap DDT! Jeff goes for the pin but gets a two count!

Both men get up and charge at each other, taking each other down with clotheslines. The referee begins the count and both men makes it up by five. Edge goes for a pin but Jeff counters with a Russian Leg Sweep! Jeff goes the double leg drop pin but gets a near fall! Jeff is up and hits Edge with a scoop slam: there goes the shirt! He's ready to end this one! Jeff steps up to the middle rope and hits a leg drop! That could be it! Jeff goes for the pin and gets a near fall! Punk says he can't wait for Monday night as Jeff hits the inverted atomic drop. Jeff goes for the double leg but Edge blocks it! Edge locks in the Sharpshooter but doesn't have it locked in correctly! Jeff takes advantage and grabs the bottom rope quickly.

Jeff rolls out to the apron and blocks Edge with a shot to the midsection. Jeff goes for a Sunset Flip and again gets a near fall! Jeff gets up and goes for the Twist of Fate but Edge blocks it! Edge goes for the Spear but Jeff sidesteps him! Edge crashes into the corner! Jeff rolls him up and gets a two count! Edge pulls himself up and hits Edge with the Twist of Fate! Pin him you moron! No, Jeff is going for the Swanton Bomb! But Edge gets out of the ring. Jeff gets off the top and leaps off the ring apron, taking Edge down a clothesline! Both men are down!

Jeff is up and goes after Edge but Edge is up first and throws Jeff into CM Punk! Punk can't believe it! Edge gets back into the ring and Punk is right before him! Punk goes after Edge and the referee calls for the bell!

Winner:Who Knows ***

Jeff looks on in shock and slides back in, going after Punk! Edge stops the attack with a shot! Edge goes for the DDT but Jeff reverses into the Twist of Fate! GO TO SLEEP! GO TO SLEEP on Jeff Hardy by CM Punk! The crowd jeers as Punk stands tall in the ring. JR and Grisham speculate who will win it as we cut to ECW GM Tiffany and Smackdown GM Theodore Long in the back. Tiffany announce Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian for the ECW Championship and Long one ups her with CM Punk vs. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship! Tonight Punk is the champion but who will walk out of Raw with the gold? We'll find out this Monday but that's it for this week on Smackdown!

In before 300 comments complaining about the framerate of the show tonight, and in before half of those blame the digital transition or hi-def TVs (even though they had nothing to do with the framerate issue).

show was once again awsome

Thought the Diva's tag team match deserved a better rating. It wasn't perfect but man it was amazing compared to the KK vs Maryse match on RAW.

Two main event-level matches in the same night. This is why SD is THE "A" show

wtf, CMPunk beats jericho clean!?

EPIC FAIL!

Despite the awkward finish, this was one of my favorite Edge/Jeff matches yet. Both of them pulling out all of their moves and counters and all the while selling their injuries from the ladder match. It was great stuff.

Good show all around. I just wish JoMo had gotten in on that mic action a little with R-Truth.

Please, please, please give me slow burn double turn feud between Edge & Punk. The promo work alone would be amazing!

this is how u make Punk look strong beats a damn good wrestler in jericho clean and then gets his own at the end of the Show standing tall after an GTS. I assume he will be a tweener and then turn heel

That CM Punk guy sure knows how to speak on the mic.

Thank God for Smackdown. Raw is so boring and predictable, it's great to see real talent (and not just names) headline a show the way it is supposed to be.

Smackdown is now the superior brand in the WWE

Actually I thought it looked kinda cool. That said, this was my first time catching SD since the draft and I have to say without question this is the best wrestling show on TV.

Simple and effective reasons as to why each contender wanted a shot at the title.

Smackdown is killin' it.

Smackdown rules!

I can watch Edge vs Jeff Hardy everyday of the week. These guys always deliver. Add new World Champ CM Punk to the mix to keep things fresh.
IC Champ Chris Jerchio, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, John Morrison, R-Truth, Rey Mysterio, hell even Dolph Zigler can go. Smackdown is awesome.

Eh, not that Khali & Ziggy were bad, especially considering Khali was in the match, but the divas were considerably better. Eve continues to impress. I liked Jericho & Punk's match a slightly better than Edge & Jeff's too, but to each their own.

great show! 1st time in forever I couldn't wait for an episode of WWE-TV to air (despite 411 ruining the outcome as a Raw Spoiler the other night... thanks guys-- see you fixed that now)

I have been very verbal about hating Punk but he now has me very invested in his character so great job all around--- loved the show.

Well, the Triple Threat will probably be the best of the Three-for-All matches, but the Four-Way is going to get the main event slot, and it will probably be the worst of the 4, but it's exciting to see who will be the champ.

Really, really wish they wouldn't pad the crowd noise. I've been skeptical for a while now, but tonight it really seemed obvious, as they kept using the same audio sample over and over. I know it must be tempting for them since it's prerecorded, but I'd prefer everything was just the real deal.

Another great show, with the lone exception of the terrible Divas match. They are sticking out like a sore thumb with the rest of the show being so good. Hopefully, their crappy matches will continue to be short.

Was a good show again , but not as good as the last few weeks .

Main event scene is very interesting right now , Hardy is a face , everything else is unclear . Maybe they will try a double turn , with Edge going face & CM Punk turning heel , that would be very very interesting .

The divas match was yet again very good , going with a slow build for the eventual title match , I think it will be @ Night of Champions , and it is about time Michelle won the belt & feuded with Gail Kim .

Y2J Should drop the IC Title soon enough , before going on to a program with Taker around about Summer Slam .

Intriguing storylines , fast paced & solid matches , great promos , and building up new stars , SD Is doing it all .

Kane will return shortly and step into Umaga's role , I Assume .

ECW Is solid , RAW is slowly improving , TNA is .. well TNA , but SD seems very fresh & it is so exciting to watch , definitely TV Show of they year so far , and it looks good till the rest of the year so far .

Looking forward to the 3 way next week , CM will retain , I think . I Wonder who

What was so wrong about the divas match Guest#7288? Please elaborate?

wtf, CMPunk beats jericho clean!?

EPIC FAIL!

Posted By: wylung (Guest) on June 13, 2009 at 12:36 AM

I know right?
A world champ getting a clean pin.
WTF!

The main event and Punk versus Jericho should be rated higher in my opinion.

AWWW. Haas eats a pin AGAIN? CM Punk is a self-righteous tweener. awesome SD once again.

Melina's sunset flip move is the Last Call. McCools move is still the Styles Clash..LOL

I think no one cares about the division on there because they know Takers chick is gonna get the belt, and once again kill the division like it did when she was divas champ.

Put the strap back on Edge.

No matter what they do, I don't think I'll EVER care about Michelle McCool.

All those exclamation points are a sign of a disturbed mind.

"wtf, CMPunk beats jericho clean!?

Yeah, it's not like he's the world champion or anything.

Wow, once you take out all the worthless bits (Raw-Rebound, X-Pac 2.0) the show was about 40 minutes long. (Oh, and Morisson is going to break his neck on that move.)

Posted By: Dave (Guest)  on June 13, 2009 at 10:03 AM

Two main event-level matches in the same night. This is why SD is THE "A" show

Too bad they rendered both unwatchable with X2.0

Watched it on Hulu and the framerate was fine. Also on there they showed a great match between finlay and mysterio, his first night back. A cool little add on.

Please, please, please give me slow burn double turn feud between Edge & Punk. The promo work alone would be amazing!

Posted By: Ronald McFondle (Registered) on June 13, 2009 at 12:51 AM

This guy knows what's up. That would be PERFECT.

So funny he had to post the "X2.0" joke, twice!! Nah...not really.....it wasn't funny...

I thought the weird framerate was kinda cool too. It looked kinda cinematic.

and yeah. LOL my friend SWORE it was because of the digital transfer.

I thought the main event for Raw was spoiled when they listed it as Edge vs. Punk. I'm actually glad that was wrong.

The triple threat forumla actually works best when the matchup is face/heel/tweener...everyone has the same motivation, but fights/wins through different means. I'm sure if CM Punk doesn't turn heel soon, a lot of people will probably say that it was a wasted opportunity, but really, without even turning him yet, he's already been booked much stronger before and after becoming World Champ than he was last year. He truly looked like a champion against Chris Jericho, and he's getting more mic time. If he makes the most of it, he'll have a good run.

I was also skeptical about Morrison using Starship Pain as a finisher, mainly because he put the person too close to the corner and most of the force when he comes down is in his shins and knees. This week he put Charlie Haas farther away, and hit it perfectly. If he keeps doing it like that, it'll get over as a legit finishing move.

I like the move and all but man, did his head come dangerously close to the ground. (I mean his hair hit the mat, his head was literally only a few inches away from the mat.) He really needs to make that move safer for himself, I can't see him doing it like that very long without a possibly career ending injury. (Oh, and fine I'll refer to that other guy as Mr. Unwatchable from now on.)

Part of me wanted to see CM Punk turn heel right off the bat.

Now I'm actually kinda glad they're going to build to what seems to be a double turn for Punk/Edge.

Hot damn Smackdown pwns Raw.

So we have all the titles being defended on a 3 hour Raw less than two weeks before a PPV.

The Raw the week after is advert free and is in effect a lame ass albeit free PPV

May I make a bold prediction that "The Bash" will have one of the lowest buyrates of all WWE PPVs, as who in their right mind will shell out for this event with NO build and matches that will either be exact repeats of the next two weeks of television.

And people think TNA does retarded things.

Good luck ringing that fifty dollars out of people Mr McRainman.

Thank God for Smackdown. Raw is so boring and predictable, it's great to see real talent (and not just names) headline a show the way it is supposed to be.

Smackdown is now the superior brand in the WWE

It's amazing who moving HHH, Big Show and Kozlov off your roster and adding Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk in can improve your roster so well....

"I thought the weird framerate was kinda cool too. It looked kinda cinematic."

I swear, John Morrison is getting so damn popular they might not have turned his entrance cinematics off. I guess they'd cool up there show by doing this.

"So funny he had to post the "X2.0" joke, twice!! Nah...not really.....it wasn't funny..."

yeah he keeps trying to get that little phrase over but doesn't realise that people can like a wrestler that is hyped and well liked by the IWC.

I don't get the appeal of Jeff Hardy.

main even was week in my opinion and an overkill..i cant stand seeing these guys in a match again, just end this already..find fresh encounters, bring christian and the dynasty to smackdown, then the show would be even better.

I don't get the appeal of Jeff Hardy.

I'm guessing alot of it is really NASCAR in nature. I mean I have to think alot of people watch him because they want to see some sick, horrific crash and it's just a matter of time before he has another one.

NEWSFLASH - There is no way in hell that they will turn Edge face.

SD is like a free PPV every week. Man, these are some seriously good shows. I wish it wasn't on Friday, I'm usually busy, but if they keep this up I might have to start being home.

A Great Smackdown show this week. Because of the 3hr show this Monday, is there a ECW or Smackdown taping this week?

I always chuckle when the Intrawebz folks like to tell the wrasslers how to perform their finishing moves.

I grew up loving wrestling, but grew apart from it when I went to college. Then, a friend of mine invited me to his Wrestlemania party and the HBK V. Undertaker match reminded me of why I once loved wrestling.

Unfortunately, I started watching Raw and that show is so terrible that I became ashamed of being a wrestling fan. I tried watching TNA and that didn't help at all. Thank god for Smackdown and its great matches and athletes. I can now watch wrestling for entertainment and not out of loyalty and obligation. I can watch wrestling and feel good about it afterwards.
