411's WWE Superstars Report 06.25.09
Posted by Rob McNew on 06.25.2009

-Hosted by Michael Cole, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Jim Ross, Todd Grisham, Josh Mathews, & Matt Striker

Jack Swagger vs. Evan Bourne
Bourne comes to the ring with taped up ribs at the hands of Mark Henry, and the alternate white tights. Swagger takes control early on with a go behind takedown, and then more amateur offense with a single leg trip. Swagger locks in a hammerlock, but Bourne counters into an armdrag. Swagger is right back ramming Bourne into the top buckle, but Bourne comes out of a throw attempt and delivers a low dropkick for two. Bourne slingshots in from the apron with a sunset flip attempt which is blocked by Swagger who then throws Bourne over the top rope back to the floor as we head to commercial. Back from break with Bourne locked in a waistlock at the hands of Swagger. Bourne counters out, and then hits a low dropkick to the knees of Swagger. Bourne charges into Swagger's knees, and then Swagger misses a Vader Bomb. Bourne counters a waistlock into a bulldog, and then hits a jumping clothesline as Swagger charges. Bourne hits a kick off the second rope for two, and then kicks Swagger to the floor. Bourne goes out to the apron, and springboards off the second rope with a double knee to the face of Swagger. Bourne heads to the top rope after throwing Swagger back inside, but he gets caught and thrown off the top for a Swagger two count. Swagger goes for the gutwrench powerbomb, but Bourne counters into a hurracanrana pin for two. Bourne heads up top for the SSP, but Swagger moves and Bourne lands on his feet. Swagger is able to clothesline Bourne from behind however, and deliver the gutwrench powerbomb picking up the victory at 8:45. Nothing mind blowing, but a perfectly acceptable 9 minute TV match.
Winner: Jack Swagger (Pinfall-Gutwrench Powerbomb **1/4)

Dolph Ziggler vs. Jimmy Wang Yang
Before the match Ziggler gets on the mic, and says for the three divas that were rendered speechless by his appearance on Smackdown somehow they didn't remember his name. This Sunday at The Bash when he once again outsmarts and beats Khali we'll forget his name. So is he ripping off Goldust's gimmick now? Jimmy takes over Ziggler with a headlock, but gets hit with a forearm to allow Dolph to take control. Dolph hits a suplex for one, and then a spinning neckbreaker by Ziggler is reversed into a backslide for one. Ziggler comes right back with a powerslam for two, and he locks in a reverse chinlock. Ziggler hits a back suplex, and then heads to the second rope. Ziggler's dive is met with a dropkick by Yang, who then hits a variety of kicks for two. Jimmy fires Ziggler into the corner, and charges with a spinning heel kick in the corner. Ziggler rolls through on a top rope crossbody for two, and then crotches Yang after he again tries a high risk move off the top. Ziggler hits a jumping Russian Legsweep to finish things at 2:58. Pretty much a squash for Dolph, but it was a high energy one.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler (Pinfall-Jumping Russian Legsweep *1/2)

-Ridiculously long Raw recap. Judging by the rating you all I saw it so I'm skipping this.

-Josh Mathews talks to Kofi Kingston. Kofi says a true champion should always be tested, and tonight he'll face MVP and Matt Hardy who are two of the best in the game right now. Kofi says when it's all said and done he will still be US Champ.

WWE United States Championship Triple Threat Match: Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Matt Hardy vs. Kofi Kingston ©
Matt attacks Kofi right at the bell and fires him to the floor leaving him and MVP to do battle. Matt clotheslines MVP in the corner, and hits a bulldog for a one count. Matt delivers a pair of knees to the face, but MVP comes right back with a throw. Kofi comes back in and he and MVP deliver a pair of forearms. Kofi hits a dropkick on Matt, as the faces both double-team him with a double vertical suplex. Kofi goes for the cover, but MVP makes the save and covers himself allowing Kofi to make the save. They have words before Matt pushes Kofi into MVP sending MVP to the floor, and allowing Kofi to get rolled up for two. Matt hits a swinging neckbreaker, and then drops a pair of legs on Kofi. MVP slides back inside, but gets met with a dropkick from Matt. Kofi rolls up Matt from behind for two, and then takes him over with a wristlock for two. Matt clotheslines Kofi on the top rope for a two count that is broken up by MVP who comes back inside. MVP sends Matt to the ropes, and a drop toehold gets a two count for him as we head to break. Back from commercial and Matt delivers a double clothesline to both men, and a bodyslam to Kofi. Elbow drop from Matt gets a two count on Kofi as MVP has rolled to the floor. Kofi hits the ropes, and delivers a monkeyflip and dropkick for a one count as MVP makes the save. Matt goes to the floor, and MVP tells Kofi it's just them two. MVP delivers a series of knee lifts, and then a knee drop for a two count. MVP grabs a double arm chickenwing, and then hits the ropes running into a jumping back elbow from Kofi. Side Russian Legsweep by Kofi connects, and he hits the ropes only to get pulled to the floor by Hardy. Matt drops Kofi face first onto the barricade, and slides inside turning his attention to MVP. Hardy hits a reverse neckbreaker for a two count, and then heads to second rope for an elbow. Cole like an idiot keeps saying he's using the cast even though it's clearly just the elbow. MVP fires back with right hands and a facebuster to Hardy. Ballin' elbow connects for a two count, but Kofi attacks from behind with a kick sending MVP to the floor. Double legdrop for Kofi gets a two count when MVP again makes the save. MVP sends Kofi to the ropes, but Kofi comes off with a sunset flip. MVP flips out and delivers a clothesline for two. Matt comes back into the fray with a side effect on MVP for two, and then heads over to Kofi sending him to the buckle. Kofi dodges a charge and hits a bicycle kick in the corner. Top rope crossbody connects for another two count from Kofi who then mounts the second rope for a series of punches. Kofi charges at MVP, but runs into a boot putting him down. MVP goes after Hardy, but runs into a twist of fate for another two count as Kofi makes the save. Matt goes for the twist of fate this time on Kofi, but he counters and delivers the Trouble in Paradise to retain the title at 14:14 . Started out pretty pedestrian in the beginning, but picked up big time at the end. Perfectly acceptable television main event.
Winner: STILL WWE United States Champion-Kofi Kingston (Pinfall-Trouble In Paradise ***)

-Back to the normal formula, and the quality returns. Another solid outing from Superstars

Match of the night Ziggler (Nemeth) vs. Yang (yun). I would have prefered if Roma (Centopani) appeared but he was busy. Rumor is they wanted RVD(Szatkowski)to show up but he told Johnny Ace (Laurinatis) that his last appearance was a one shot deal.

They should change that heading pic of HHH/Morrison and Rey/Batista. What the heck is the point?!? Kinda creepy.

I'm lovin' watching Kofi Kingston wrestle! He's more entertaining than most of the young superstars of the past few years.

If your gonna mention Cole's stupidness, at least give him credit for his ridiculously great line responding to King's Kentucky Derby analogy to Hardy's injury.

King (paraphrasing slightly): Wouldn't you root for a horse in the Kentucky Derby if he had to run on a sprained ankle?

Cole: Not if I wasn't betting on him.

How about that Umaga-themed Superstars promo? Douche chill!

I didn't catch Matt's injury and I was really looking for it, too. Him tossing Kofi after a kick at the onset was really weak.

I'm still pulling for Ziggler's finisher to be called the Greetdown. And speaking of finisher names is Swagger's always going to just be called the gutwrench?

Good recap as usual!

Boring, boring, boring show. Impact was better even though it was horrible. Bad is okay, but boring is never acceptable.

decent show.
It provides good wrestling and allows some expansion of feuds while being cheap as f**k and opens doors in another network.
Works for me.
