411's WWE Raw Report 06.29.09
Posted by Rob McNew on 06.29.2009
Batista is named GM for the night, and shakes things up announcing a four man tournament for a shot at Orton's title at Night of Champions. Meanwhile a shocking face turn closes the show, as Orton gets his wig split.
-Coming off the heels of The Bash where Randy Orton retained the WWE title with a bunch of help from his Legacy buddies the feud that is setting the wrestling world on fire is sure to continue this evening. John Cena looks to have sent The Miz packing to the midcard, and might also look to get himself back into the WWE Title picture. Also the shocking new Unified Tag Team Champions Rated Y2J are now here to save Raw by defending the titles against the former champs The Colons. Also we're getting a major announcement from Mr. McMahon regarding a special guest host for the evening, and rumors abound that we could get a mini-draft of sorts. Hopefully an infusion of talent to freshen this show up.
-Live from HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA
-Hosted by Michael Cole & Jerry "The King" Lawler
-Mr. McMahon is out to start the show, and says if his friend Donald Trump was here tonight he'd be giving away the show for free and not having commercials. Vince asks the crowd if they want him to do the same thing, but he says he needs commercials to make money. He says can give them their moneyback however, but he's not going to. He says Trump even orchestrated a fifteen superstar trade between ECW, Smackdown, and Raw that he has to live with. He says Trump also came up with this guest host idea that he has to live with. So I guess all of Trump's decisions were final, and irreversible. That's some contract. Vince announces that tonight he's going to have a guest host who will shake things up, and introduces Batista as the guest host for the evening. Yes, that Batista. Batista says he's excited, and we're going to have some fun tonight. Batista announces a four man Night of Champions tournament to determine Orton's challenger for the PPV. Batista announces the matches as Miz vs. Cena and MVP vs. HHH. Batista says when Vince first asked him to do this he said no way, because he's a fighter not a guest host. Before he can finish his thought Legacy comes out, and in a stunning upset they are all wearing shirts! Orton tells him he shouldn't have come back, and asks if he's a glutton for punishment. Orton asks what he thinks is stopping them from coming down and tearing the rest of him apart. Batista says nothing is stopping them, except for that they even look at him the wrong way he'll fire all three of them. Batista says he wasn't ready to come back until he was ready to fight, but Vince promised him unlimited power. He can do anything he wants which means he can make Orton's life a living nightmare. Orton reminds him that it already is a nightmare. He barely survived three stages of hell after getting hit with a sledgehammer. Batista makes crying noises, and again gives the folks over at the Wrestlecrap forums the gift that keeps on giving with a whining face that is sure to give them lots of photoshopping fun for this week. Batista says he's not going to make Orton defend his title tonight, but he needs to worry about the trade that Trump made before he was fired. He says Raw acquired five new superstars, but Batista is only going to make him face three of them in a 3 on 1 gauntlet match. Batista says he knows how much Orton likes 3 on 1 fights so its about time he found out what its like to be on the other side of one.
Night of Champions Tournament Match One: Triple H vs. Montel Vontavious Porter
Im very intrigued at this, because one would think that either MVP is going to win here or Miz is going to beat Cena. No way in hell WWE is giving away Cena-HHH III on Raw. Poor MVP gets left to die on the entrance after Trips comes out. He basically gets a negative pop. HHH sells his knee at the outset, so MVP grabs a single leg but gets hammered down. MVP again goes for the single, and again gets a few right hands. MVP answers with a kick to the injured knee, and then wraps the leg around the ropes in the corner. MVP kicks the knee, and then drops an elbow down on it. HHH comes back firing back with right hands out of the corner, but MVP counters a spinebuster and chopblocks the knee. MVP locks in a figure four leglock. He's ballin' and proflin! MVP is able to break the figure four with a right hand, but MVP goes right back to it. This time HHH kicks off on the attempt, and then hits a knee lift. HHH goes for the pedigree out of nowhere, but again MVP clips the knee. MVP hits the ballin' elbow for a two count, and then misses a drive by kick. Another pedigree attempt is countered into a backdrop, and this time the drive by connects for two. MVP sets up for the playmaker, but HHH counters and the pedigree finishes at 4:34. Odd match as basically MVP looked good for the majority, but only because Trips was injured. Then he gets caught with the pedigree out of nowhere and loses. Meh. Winner: Triple H (Pinfall-Pedigree *1/2)
-Orton is in the back complaining to his lackeys about the unfair treatment of Batista when he wanders in and lets them know that if Rhodes or Dibiase interfere he's going to fire them on the spot.
-Recap of The Miz-Cena rivalry. Correction, an ABSURDLY LONG RECAP of the Miz-Cena rivalry
Night of Champions Tournament Match Two-John Cena vs. The Miz
So last night the IWC nearly exploded with fury after Cena defeated Miz in a glorified squash seemingly thinking he was heading back to FCW or something afterward. I thought I'd take a wait and see approach before shitting on it, and now they have a chance to redeem it a little bit. So we'll see what happens. Miz takes control right off the bat with a series of knee lifts and right hands. Cena comes back with a back elbow, and a hiptoss. Elbow drop from Cena gets a one count, but then he charges into a boot in the corner. Miz mounts Cena with a series of right hands, and delivers a kick to the head. Cena comes back with a backdrop, and a fisherman suplex for two. Cena grabs a reverse chinlock, and backs Miz into the corner with it. Miz hits a cheapshot on the break, and connects with a suplex for two. Miz turns the table grabbing a reverse chinlock, and then delivers a kneelift. Neckbreaker from Miz gets a two count, and he follows that up with an elbow to the back of the head. Miz buries a shoulder into Cena in the corner, and then measures Cena with a pair of right hands. Cena goes for a running bulldog, but Miz counters, and drops Cena on the top rope. Swinging neckbreaker by Miz gets a two count, and then he continues working Cena over in the corner as we head to break. Back from commercial and Miz is still in control with a reverse chinlock. Cena powers out of it, but misses a charge and gets hit with a clothesline for two. Miz mounts Cena again and delivers a series of right hands. Miz chokes Cena out with his boot in the corner, and then hits a running clothesline in the corner. Miz heads to the top rope, but gets caught by Cena who sets up for the Attitude Adjustment off the top. Miz is able to counter and deliver an electric chair drop for a two count. Miz drops a series of knees on the back of the neck of Cena, and then hits a legdrop. Running boot to the face by Miz gets another two count, and then he charges into a drop toehold from Cena. Cena goes for the STF, but gets kicked off by Miz who then locks in a sleeper. Cena backs Miz into the corner to break the hold, and then ducks a clothesline. Cena hits a pair of shoulderblocks and a protoplex. Five knuckle shuffle connects, and that is followed by a blockbuster from Cena. Top rope Rocker Dropper from Cena connects, and the STF finishes things at 13:51. Well that sets up a blockbuster main event on Raw next week. I'm SHOCKED they would give away Cena-Trips III on Raw. As for this match it is my feeling that this is the match they wanted to have last night, but couldn't due to time constraints. This was far better, and actually elevated Miz a bit. Good job from the ‘E righting a wrong from the night before. Winner: John Cena (Submission-STF ***1/4)
-Cody tries to talk down Randy, but Dibiase butts in and lets them know that everything is going to be alright because he just got off the phone with his dad and next week he will be the guest host on Raw. Orton asks how that is supposed to help him tonight.
Diva's Fatal Four Way Number One Contender Match: Kelly Kelly vs. Mickie James vs. Rosa Mendes vs. Beth Phoenix
Beth attacks Rosa when she wants a piece of Mickie to show its every woman for themselves. Beth makes a cover on Rosa, but Mickie makes the save with a dropkick. The heels end up on the floor leaving Mickie and Kelly in the ring. Mickie takes her over with a headlock, but Kelly reverses into a head scissors. Its very hard to recap this because they keep cutting to Maryse talking. Not that I'm complaining. Beth comes in and gives a clothesline to the faces getting two counts on both of them. Beth starts dominating mounting Mickie and delivering a series of right hands. Rosa asks if she can help, but Beth runs her off. Mickie uses the quick distraction to lock in a dragon sleeper. Rosa hops on Mickie's back with a reverse chinlock, and then Kelly hops on board with a sleeper. Beth comes out and then drives all three women into the corner. Beth and Mickie trade blows in the ring, and Mickie gets the best of it going for a rollup. Beth elbows out, and then all the ladies roll each other up with a variety of near falls. Beth hits a powerslam on Rosa, but Kelly makes the save at two. The faces double team Beth taking her down with a series of forearms. Beth comes back to hit the glam slam on Kelly, but Mickie makes the save at two. Beth charges into an elbow from Mickie, who sends Beth to the apron with a hurracanrana. Mickie dropkicks Beth off the apron sending her into the steps. Mickie then comes back to Rosa with a few forearms, and finishes things with the jumping DDT at 6:05. It was a disjointed mess of a match, but it was slightly more entertaining then your average diva match. Which means it was a step up from watching paint dry. Mickie and Maryse exchange words afterward. Winner: Mickie James (Pins Mendes-DDT *)
The Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston
SOS…I hear dem shoutin. SOS…dey see me jobbin. This would be the very definition of a clash in styles. Kofi runs into a clothesline from Show right off the bat, and then gets an elbow to the shoulder. Show headbutts the shoulder of Kofi, and then delivers a knee to the face. Bodyslam from Show sets up an elbow drop attempt which misses. Kofi hits a series of kicks, and a European uppercut. Kofi hits the bicycle kick in the corner, and then a missile dropkick to put Show down. Kofi hits the double legdrop for two, and then hops up to the top for the punch attack to Show. He gets casually tossed to the floor by the big man who heads out after him. Show chops Kofi on the table, and then goes for a press slam. Kofi slides down the back, and sends Show into the post. Neither man is able to beat the count, and it's a double count out at 3:41. I can't remember the last time I saw a double count out. Afterward Show just stomps off mad. That was…odd? Winner: Draw (Double Count Out *1/2)
3 on 1 Gauntlet Match: Randy Orton vs. Three Mystery Opponents
Orton really sells the injuries from The Bash by slowly walking to the ring. Although its really just the same speed he always walks, but this time with a limp.
First Opponent: Evan Bourne
Orton attacks Bourne right away with a boot, but Bourne is right back with a flying forearm. Orton pulls Bourne to the apron, and then goes for a suplex back inside. Bourne counters into a rollup for one, and then hits a spinning heel kick for two. Orton hits a European uppercut, and then delivers a series of signature Orton stomps. Bourne comes back with a standing moonsault for one, and then gets a rollup for two. Drop toehold from Bourne connects, and is followed by a low dropkick for two. Orton runs into the boots of Bourne, who then dives off the top rope with a pair of knees to the face. Bourne goes back up for the Shooting Star Press, but gets crotched by Orton who delivers a bulldog off the top rope to pick up the pin at 3:25.
Second Opponent: Jack Swagger
THWAGGAH ON MONDAY'S!!! Phenomenal pick up for the Raw brand for a guy long overdue for the promotion. Swagger grabs a double leg takedown, and then goes outside to the apron. Swagger stands on the apron and allows the referee to count him out. Ahh heel solidarity, gotta love it. Count out comes at 6:00. Swagger grabs the mic, and says he's always liked Orton. He says on his first night on Raw he wanted to leave a lasting impression, and shakes hands with Orton as he leaves. Interesting.
Third Opponent: Mark Henry
And you were worried about Smackdown getting raped? Did ECW get cancelled? Henry has the mic, and tells Orton he's always liked him too. He says he also has a lot of respect for him, and just like Jack Swagger he wanted to make an impression. He says its going to be a good one. Henry shoves Orton down on a lockup, and then like Swagger before him he also takes the intentional count out. Heel solidarity ftw! Oh, but wait, Henry stops the count and tells Orton not so fast. Orton begs Henry not to kill him, but gets no mercy as Henry picks him up by the throat and biels Orton across the ring. Henry connects with a headbutt, and puts the boots to Orton. Avalanche connects for Henry, but Orton comes back with a smack to the face. Henry comes right back with a headbutt. Orton gets a little offense with a boot, and an RKO attempt but its blocked by Henry who shoves Orton into the ropes and catches him with the Worlds Strongest Slam to a thunderous pop. That finishes at 12:07, and the Henry celebrates what appears to be a face turn. This was incredibly well booked, and Henry got a bigger reaction for this then he has for anything in his career. Raw actually closes with Mark Henry in the ring celebrating. Do not adjust your sets folks. Winner: Mark Henry (Pinfall-Worlds Strongest Slam **1/2)
-Well what a difference a week makes! This was the best Raw in a long time, as we saw a fantastic Tag Title match, Miz and Cena having the match they should have had last night, and Jack Swagger and Mark Henry both making impressions in different ways in their Raw debuts. Since the draft they've had a couple rays of hope that were quickly shot down, so I'm not sure if this was just a one week thing or if it's a sign of good things to come. We shall have to see, but for one week Raw certainly got its groove back. As long as you ignore the HHH-MVP match that is.
face turn for henry??? hmmmm main event push??? at this point as long as it isnt triple h or cenuts im good

Awesome show!(with the exception of the Show vs. Kofi mess). The three ECW transfers are all great moves to RAW. And finally getting to see Mark Henry with what looks like a face push.

Finally Mark Henry has come back to raw....
I got to say this raw started off like shit, but Mark Henry's arrival changed all that.
Thank you Donald. Closer to my dream of Henry/Cena main event at wrestlemania. Raw is worth watching again.
I guess the kendrick got his partner in bourne, and i feel sorry for S. Benjamin.
WORLDS STRONGEST SLAM BITCHES!!!

Good show that felt 'different', which is a good thing. I like Henry playing the babyface for a change. Pleas eno bitching about MVP and The Miz losing. First, we get Cena/HHH in their rubber match for FREE. Second, if you want to honestly look me in the eye and tell me Orton vs MVP or The Miz at Night of Champions would sell, you would be lying to yourself.
Posted By: JWATIN (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:38 PM
Rob McNew, are you a complete tool? That Mark Henry "face turn" was garbage and he will be forgotten by the audience by next week.
RAW continues to rely on a combination of gimmicky, over-hyped bullshit like the donald trump angle and a main event picture that never changes from some combo of Orton, Cena and HHH. It's slow, drawn-out, and pretty boring for long periods of time. At least Edge & Jericho will be around more to entertain.

Hey WWE and Vince why not just call Smackdown and ECW your shows to rape and use and abuse because wrestling and entertainment value surpass RAW. Vince had to use the Trump gimmick to bolster ratings while the "wrestling' value was not there. Now the 15 draft trade BS probably caused a bunch of viewers to tune out and then Batista as GM sent the remaining to turn off the tv, read a book, cook some spaghetti, punch themselves in the face, or even throw a remote in the toilet; and no I did NOT do all those things.
The next thing the wwe real fans need to have is Hulk Hogan as a weekly GM; this will definitely send myself and a few other 100,000 people off the regular monday night raw. WWE should just Fold and quit this shit. IT IS NOT ENTERTAINING when HHH and Cena ALWAYS win!! I read the line up and already knew this shit would happen.

If they book henry in a Goldberg style push, it'll work.
Posted By: xLx (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:47 PM
It was a top rope rko orton gave to bourne, the announcers were wrong.

I have not watched a complete episode of Raw for the better part of three months, though I have kept up with everything through YouTube and 411wrestling. After tonight's episode, I believe I will be taken another LONG hiatus from Raw.
First off, I was remaining optimistic for the chance that MVP could face Orton at Night Of Champions. The PPV is not that big of a deal and would be a great chance to show that Porter is ready for the main event. However, leave it to Hunter The BarBURYian to once again book himself in a win. The same can be said for SuperCena, who squashed the Miz two nights in a row. While Triple H/Cena is undoubtedly a main event matchup, its been done before (WM22, Night of Champions 2008)...It would be nice to see some fresh, NEW talent in the main event scene (MVP, Kofi, etc)
At the end of the night, Randy Orton took on three new members of the Raw roster in a gauntlet match. Just as I assumed, Raw raided the ECW roster, taking Bourne, Swagger, and Mark Henry. I knew that Bourne would not beat Orton, and I was surprised with the amount of offense he was able to get in. However, look for him to quickly get lost in the Raw shuffle and be jobbing to the Big Show in one month's time. The biggest letdown for Raw was how they made Swagger look like a chump. The guy has been built as a franchise player for ECW starting last September, only for him to say he "respects" Orton and get counted out?!?! Who the hell is writing this shit? After Swagger had that great match with Cena on Raw during the Draft, I really thought there might be potential if Swagger got drafted over to Raw in the future. With tonight's action, its clear that Swagger with not ascend higher than US Title status...Plus its only a matter of time before HHH buries him. And out of Bourne and Swagger, they job Orton, the WWE Champion, out to Mark Henry cleanly! If I could think of anything worse besides HHH/Orton, its Henry/Orton
The only bright spot for me tonight was Rated Y2J and the fact that they will now be able to appear on all shows thanks to them being the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions. Sadly, not even Edge and Jericho could save this RAW from being the same old shit...As long as people like HHH, Cena, and Batista are at the top of the card, expect no one to break through the glass ceiling...

Mark Henry came out looking GREAT. He did good in the ring, worked the crowd well...He got instant credibility.
Reminiscent of Shelton pinning Triple H in 2004

about damn time, good for mark
Posted By: cbizzle (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:55 PM
How does Mark Henry get pushed OVER and OVER and OVER again when he hasn't gotten seriously over once in over ten years? Does he have incriminating pictures of the McMahons? And Orton being fed to him? Really? Did he run over Steph's dog recently?
Posted By: CF (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:56 PM
And the burial of Randy Orton , WWE Champion, continues. Just unbelievable. Is it intentional? Did he piss someone off? Or are they so diluted they honestly think this is how you book a heel, to simply be fed to the superfaces?
Oh, and it seems both Jerry Lawler and Rob Mcnew both had something in their eyes, because the move Orton did to Bourne was very obviously a super RKO, not a bulldog.
Posted By: Zipper (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:56 PM
Was Tony Atlas with Mark Henry?
Posted By: qwerty (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:58 PM
okay, so we shit on trips despite him competing in a match that actually involved psychology against a fellow face. then rob mcnew refers to Swagger's mailing-in as 'interesting' and therefore better than hhh-mvp. can someone please explain to me the logic in all of this?
Posted By: please respond (Guest) on June 29, 2009 at 11:58 PM
But where does face Henry go? Feud with Big Show? Perhaps to be Bourne's partner in a cool black guy/high white guy team? Nowhere just like Heel Henry?
Oh well, at least we have ECW GM - Tony Atlas!

Wow, decent showing on the mic from Batista. Where's that been his whole career?
Posted By: Gambit_9166 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 12:14 AM
And Mark Henry is officially a WWE Title-contending babyface on RAW after just one match...holy shit.
Posted By: Nick M. (Registered) on June 30, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Wasn't that a top rope RKO that knocked out Bourne, and not a bulldog like Cole and Lawler called it? I understand miscalling some moves but that was Orton's f'n signature finishing move.
Posted By: Bob (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 12:17 AM
I actually was milidly entertained by the divas four way and thought it was two snowflakes material. Rosa really brought it down though.Rest of RAW was awesome except for the Trips-MVP match. My dad,who hardly ever watches wrestling, watched that match and said it was like the worst match he had ever remembered.
Posted By: jonah (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Meh...didn't watch this week and other than the trades it sounds like I didn't miss much. It could be an improvement...but I'm waiting to see the long term, aside from "HHH-Orton-Cena" with an occasional dash of the Big Show. Wash-Rinse-Repeat.
Posted By: MydniteSon (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 12:19 AM
I really can't stand the fact that MVP had to job tonight to Trips. That really irritates me to no end.

RAW 6.29.2009
Promo- VKM, ORton and Batista talk
Analysis- Nice to see Dave not a bad promo on his part and VKM saying that the fans aren’t gonna get the money back is kinda of a stupid way to get heat. Orton sold the injuries well.
Rating***
Triple H d. MVP to qualify for the finals of the NOC tourney
Analysis- Triple H sold well, MVP got some nice offense
Rating*1/4
Edge and Jericho d. Primo and Carlito to retain TAG TITLES
Analysis- Great match, Storyline proggesion as Carlito and Primo may be breaking up and they are 2nd generation… Legacy!
Rating*** (rob rated this too high because we haven’t seen a good tag team WWE match in 5 months)
Promo- Orton is in the back complaining to his lackeys about the unfair treatment of Batista when he wanders in and lets them know that if Rhodes or Dibiase interfere he's going to fire them on the spot.
Analysis- Ok so I guess maybe Orton loses
Rating**
John Cena d. The Miz with STF to qualify for the finals of the NOC Tourney
Analysis- Better than the bash but it was like Miz came up with innovative counters and moves for 10 minutes and then Cena hits 5 moves in a row anyways quite a good match
Rating***
Mickie d. Rosa, Kelly and Beth to face Marsye at NOC
Analysis- Ok, they need to move Beth to smackdown to team up with Michelle and take on Gail Kim and Melina. BTW this match was like spot, rest, spot, rest in others words there was no fluidity
Rating*1/4
Big Show and Kofi draw via double countout
Analysis- Ok what was the point of this, I guess to piss Big Show off!
Rating*1/4
Randy Orton d. Bourne via super rko, d. Swagger via countout, and Mark Henry d. Orton via Worlds Strongest Slam
Analysis- Mark Henry mega push #5, Mark Henry got the biggest pop of his career and I like Swagga helping Orton and Bourne giving it his all. Orton though in the end was to beat from a bad week and Mark Henry got the win! Great Job and nice to see orton putting Henry over because im sure if it was HHH he would’ve marched in and told steph that there would be no more sex for a year if he had to put someone over like Mark Henry after all hes one of those people I kid! But seriously steph is a freak in bed listen to her howard stern interview, she says she’ll take it up the ass
Rating**1/2
Show Rating 8/10

It was a pretty good show not blown away by henry but hey if it works like it did tonight then I'm ok with it. Cena-HHH 3 on free tv wow thats just pushing it I wouldn't be surprised by a switch somehow but I doubt it so wow hey we get to see a WM main event essentially for nothing next week. I hope Cena wins because enough is enough with HHH-Orton. Miz was made to look thats a good thing for this company because he definitly stepped up whether some of you like it or not. Crowd wasn't that great tonight but what can you do?

Posted By: Mossby (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:21 AM
Bourne is leaving ECW before he can capture ECW title? Bullshit.
BTW, a proper Orton-Bourne match would rock. Battle of St. Louis FTW!
Posted By: EddieGibson (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:26 AM
The tag match was fantastic, Edge and Jericho are clearly the best thing in all of WWE right now. The Colons looked like a million bucks.
The rest of the show was ok. Tournaments are lame unless something out of the ordinary happens. If the plan is HHH vs Orton (which I assume is the case) why not have Miz get a flukey or dirty win? When is the last time a heel got a win by an international object behind the refs back?
Sub out Mark Henry for Christian. Henry is going nowhere, he will be jobbing to the whole roster in 6 weeks.
Posted By: t-money (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:39 AM
With Mark Henry as face is he gonna be a joke like Khali? Or is he gonna be a serious big man-face lik the undertaker (I believe someone else brought this up in another article)

Was HHH hurt from last night or something. It would have been nice if MVP vs. HHH got the 14 minutes cena/Miz got. I was actually excited for that match until it ended. HHH winning doesn't bother me but a month or so ago I thought MVP was ready he calls out Orton and was about to be elevated. What the hell happened? He does have charisma he's just lost in the fold I guess with Show, Orton, HHH, Cena ahead of him and HBK and Batista whenever they return I guess (btw 4 of 6 of them are faces) I really want to see MVP become a main event wrestler I guess that's my biggest problem.
Cena vs. HHH should be a good match their WM22 match was ALL crowd their second match was much better I'm pulling for Cena, haven't been a fan of HHH since 01

Wow, I swear the Raw Creative team are fucking idiots. Who the hell had a match to see who'd be the number 1 contender for the title a month ago hmm this is tuff as if it hasn't happened for the last year im going to go out on a limb and say John Seenya and Triple Hell no! And if I am correct duh! Triple Hell no won the match... yet Cena who lost still get's entered into this little fucking tournament pitted against The miz, now I have nothing against the Miz and he's AWESOME but come on when it comes to the title you know Seenya isn't going to lose the match. Since his loss to Hell No a month ago he should be at the bottom of the chain and work his way up for a chance at a title shot but no the gay ass fucking Raw Creative team have nothing better to do. I say, Orton on Thursday grabs a bat "Breaks" Hell no's Knee, and Seenya's neck that way Next week we get Big Show vs Henry or some shit for the #1 contender match. God damn im not even paid for this shit and I could sell raw better then those homo's.

So last night the IWC nearly exploded
I couldnt give a shit what the asshole IWC thinks. So what if Miz goes to midcard hes shit anyway. IWC needs to realise Cena will be in WWE for ever!

MVP is the worst wrestler on the wwe roster how do u people like him?
Posted By: Guest#5403 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 03:02 AM
I echo the comments of others that Orton clearly did the RKO from the top rope, and not a bulldog, as called first by Cole, then repeated later by Lawler. The moves really look nothing alike, the RKO is Orton's finisher, I can't recall ever seeing Orton do a bulldog, I can't recall ever seeing a bulldog from the top rope in WWE. (Trish's Stratusfaction comes close, but that involves jumping off the ropes, not bringing your opponent off the ropes.) To bulldog your opponent off the top rope, you would have to be on the top rope with them, standing behind them, with both of you facing the ring. That would require quite the contrived setup and I don't recall ever seeing it before, with the possible exception of WCW's cruiserweight division circa 1996-98.
One more note of announcer incompetence, although this one more humorous than like the first one. When Jerry Lawler was listing celebrities who appeared at the BET awards along with MVP, one of the ones he named was Kane West. That's right, not Kanye West, but Kane West. Makes it pretty clear he was reading the names off a list and had no clue who many of the people were. How dare a 60-year old, white former wrestler from Memphis not be familiar all of the celebrities appearing at the Black Entertainment Television awards!
I kid, I kid, harmless mistake, still funny though.

Batista was great in this role (hint hint, writers!) and Henry did really well too! Both great surprises!
Also surprising, and hugely disappointing, is seeing Benjamin shipped back to ECW. But it WOULD be cool if he got Atlas as a manager!

triple h will beat cena next week on raw and we'll get the SAME OLD SHIT b/w randy and hhh
Posted By: Guest#4309 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 03:27 AM
so if DiBiase Sr. is on next week are there chances he could be made Gm for the night and book Jr. against Orton?
Any chance to see DiBiase Sr.is always epic win in my book
Posted By: guest666 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 03:58 AM
The fans speak the truth. MVP and The Miz are ready to start testing the waters. They don't have to main event PPVs yet, but give them a break now and again! The Miz has been absolute gold since coming to Raw, and MVP is a future World Champ, period.
On a happier note, ignore any hater who says babyface Mark Henry wasn't a great sight. The fans ate it up just like he would a Dagwood. Or a small village.

I swear I really hope there is an MVP/Thwagger feud
Posted By: shockmaster (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 05:45 AM
Swaggers' face as he was getting counted out made the show.
Posted By: Chungles (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 05:49 AM
Why didn't DiBiase interfere? If he was fired, his father is the host next week and could have reinstated him. Tag match was great but rewound finishing sequence and rope trip was way off. Wasn't even close but solid Raw.

You know, I've been watching wrestling (and that's what it is no matter what form of highbrow entertainment Vince thinks it is) for over 25 years, various organizations, and I never, NEVER recall a time when THE FACES ALWAYS WIN. ALL the FUCKING TIME.
The only way anyone new is going to get put over, and the only way this stupidity can save itself, is for HHH, Cena, Undertaker et all to retire or die. But it'll be too late for them by then. Audience of kids will have moved on to UFC, and it'll serve them right for insulting the audience.
Posted By: Brigadier General Major (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 06:07 AM
they DEMOTED Shelton Benjamin for an injured matt hardy and a boring Finlay. That sucks. guess that thought smackdown was doing just so well that they felt they needed to ruin a formula that was working. thus ends TWGTT reunion. FUCK tag teams eh?
also having swagger and bourne on raw ensures they get lost in the shuffle and permanently stamped with mid-carder status.
Posted By: Guest#6357 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 06:15 AM
Its funny how everyone says a loss will not hurt Cena or HHH, but a loss by Orton after fighting 4 matches in 2 days is a burial. You all play favorites much?
Posted By: cbizzle (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 06:47 AM
Looking at the complete draft ECW just got raped.
Raw was ok at best.. I just can't bear the watch anything Orton, Cena, HHH related anymore all 3 characters are completely played out now.
Jericho/Edge were awesome though as ever.
Posted By: Andrew Barbarash (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 07:15 AM
Not drafting Christian to Raw was very stupid indeed.
Posted By: jbardo (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 07:38 AM
Does anyone remember the fact that Jack Swagger is the A SECOND GENERATION SUPERSTAR!?!?!!? Ted Dibiase will turn face (since his movie will be coming out soon) and Swagger will join Legacy.
For being smart, some of you guys are really, really stupid.

Mark Henry is Bad News Brown circa '09.
Posted By: Elliot (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 08:13 AM
I know I should know better, but having MVP lose to HHH really bugs me. HHH could have sold his injury and lost to MVP, thus helping his "push". Then MVP could have lost to Cena. But no, they have to have HHH be this super human who gets the crap beat out of him but can finish off MVP with only one move. Total BS!
Posted By: mogamer (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 08:17 AM
I have a lot of time for Henry, and he's easily carried to good matches as well as capable of holding his own, so I have no problem with him getting pushed on Raw. Anything that breaks the monopoly and monotony of Orton/HHH/Cena is a good thing.
Posted By: Bimmy (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 08:40 AM
Amazing show except for the Miz burying 2 nights in a row.
I marked for Mark & thought they did an excellent job with him last night. He's been portrayed as a mega bad ass for awhile & I was so afraid that the 3rd opponent was going to be Khali!
I also loved they let Henry get the win & stand tall to close out the show. They could've easily done their typical shit & had Triple H run in at the end to cost Orton the win & further attack him.
Great job, once again

A) Son of a BITCH. They ripped out five of the six best workers on ECW and replaced them with Regal, Benjamin, and Goldust? Poor Christian.
B) I'm pretty pissed that we passed up the chance to put MVP over Trips, Miz over Cena, Bourne over Orton, AND Swagger over Orton to end up with Big Drippy going over Orton. Yes, it's still something. But it feels more like the WWE flipping us off than making progress towards a better show.
Posted By: The Glide (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 08:53 AM
Did Michael Hayes make another racist comment?
Mark Henry sucks.
Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 08:57 AM
Who seriously thinks that Evan Bourne should be beating the world champ? Anyone? Bourne got some decent offence on him and lost to Orton getting lucky and crotching him on the ropes...be satisfied with that.
Also, they're trying something different with Henry and people are still bitching. Unbelievable. The whining was that Raw had become stale, they start doing something about it, and the whining still happens.
Cena, HHH, Orton, Batista etc. are going nowhere, they are the top draws, accept that or stop watching.

A summary of this comment section: "WAHHHHHHHHHHH"
Seriously, is there EVER a time when you people aren't crying about something? MVP cleanly pinning Triple H? SERIOUSLY? MVP and Miz will have their time eventually.

What? You'd have The Miz who's career highlight is either a smarky promo about Cena or being the shadown of MNM2.0 go over Cena AND MVP over HHH in the same night?
Then you'd book Orton the WWE Champ if I may add and have him lose 3 times in a row? One of which is a 5'7 dude who flips?
Posted By: Guest#9973 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 11:04 AM
I didn't hear Michael Cole say "vintage". Actually, he hasn't said it in a long time, otherwise I would've noticed.
Cool.

Best Raw in a long time? Got their groove back? Mark Henry?! Dude! You don't know anything about good wrestling! I'm just shocked! Who in their right mind would call this a good show?! It closed with fucking Mark Henry! Please, stop writing about wrestling! Argh!
Posted By: What?! (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:14 PM
Uh, doesn't RAW already have a big, immobile lump that doesn't do anything...I believe he answers to the name The Big Show. They don't need Mark Henry too.
Posted By: flexkavana79 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:14 PM
Miz looked strong, but he has no business beating Cena yet...I like the progression with him getting better and better.
Edge and Jericho are GOLD and face it the Colons are awesome. Hope they dont get spilt up.
Bourne had some decent offense..he's not ready to World Title yet anyway..of course he lost. Swagger is awesome...bet he beats Kofi for U.S. title at Night of Champions.
Hey they tried something different with Henry..why not..I'm willing to see him eat up some heels.
Only disappointment was HHH vs MVP, but HHH is light years better.
Let's hope this trade brings us a ECW champion of Shelton Benjamin and many matches vs Christian..They could be great.
Smackdown other than losing Benjamin got better..M.Hardy, the Harts! (maybe Natalya will wrestle)
Posted By: DCFlash (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:34 PM
Fuck HHH for burying MVP.
Kinda sucks that Miz got jobbed out again.
Interesting trades. Even though they bitched out Swagger, curious to see where that leads (like if they let him join Legacy). Cool face turn for henry, and suprised they let him pick up the win.
Posted By: lilwayne1 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:39 PM
Matt is off of Raw already? WHAT THE FUCK? Stephanie Macmahon is officially REATARDED. They need a number 2 face and Batista,Mark Henry and MVp are not it. They suck in the ring and on the mic. They are lame, stupid and pathetic. They should be sent to OVW berfore they really start to stink up the whole show. But COODOOS the the Hart Dynasty, they are getting a good push which is great,, but once again Shelton Benjamin is getting a serious Raw deal. Give the guy a decent push already would ya? Or maybe someone (HHH) is afraid of him stealing the spotlight. Shame of WWE, bravo to TNA for putting together a wrestling show that is better is every way. Although Smakdown is coming together nicely
Posted By: awsome69 (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 01:54 PM
Didn't even need to peep the spoilers for next week to see that the finish between HHH and Cena would be up in the air, and we'd get a three way dance with orton at NOC. Neither HHH nor Cena can be pinned, so what'd you expect? Ugh. And when forced to watch lame ass Mark Henry pin WWE champ Randy Orton, as if that wasn't bad enough, Michael Cole just had to say, "Mark Henry just pinned the WWE Champion!" Seriously, am I the only one who notices that they say this every time the champ loses a non-title match?! The exact same line!
Posted By: Cliched. (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 02:38 PM
How in the blue hell do the announcers confuse a bulldog with a top rope RKO? He didn't even grab Bourne's head the same way you would do a bulldog. I understand messing up some move names but you don't do that for a finishing move...especially one from your WWE Champ. That's like calling the Pedigree the mighty piledriver!
Posted By: Steve (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 02:57 PM
Folks, Miz sucks. Yes, he says things that the IWC will bust their nuts over, but it's not like he's shooting on the company and he's not exactly Bret Hart in the ring. Cena kicking Miz's ass is Vince living through Cena vicariously kicking the IWC's ass. Simple enough.
And I still don't give a shit about Mark Henry. Face or heel he will still be boring.
Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 03:59 PM
that wasnt jack swaggers debut on raw..
Posted By: propagandhi (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 07:01 PM
I liked Mark Henry turning face and how they did it. Jury is still out on Jack Swagger and Evan Bourne is in trouble on Raw. Jericho and Edge will shine every week they appear...the HHH burial of MVP and Cena winning yet again brought down a pretty good show.
Posted By: Magnus (Guest) on June 30, 2009 at 11:30 PM
LOL at all the dweebs in the comment section. On one hand we have the deluded smarks who cry their eyes out because HHH & Cena did not job out to MVP and Miz, or (even worse) that Orton did not job to Bourne or Swagger... err, what?? How stupid are you? Cena and HHH are the top stars and the top draws, they will never job clean to Miz or MVP, especially in a random match on Raw with no build-up. You should be thankful that they got some decent offence in and weren't totally jobbed out. And no, I'm not a fan of Cena, HHH etc, but I am a realist who knows how things work. And to suggest Orton should be putting over Swagger and Bourne is absolutely ridiculous.
Also, when it comes to some of the IWC favorites like MVP, are we even watching the same program? Because when I watch MVP now all I see is a fan-pandering generic babyface with no real audience connection. His promising heel character was completely neutered by his "losing streak" gimmick and subsequent face turn. If he didn't have the "ballin'" thing he'd be nothing. Yet idiots on here continually praise him and call for a main event push and title run? Are you all blind?
Then in the other corner we have the mark fools who love to swallow all the shit WWE spoon-feeds them. Idiots like the writer of this report, Rob McNew, who come out with bullshit like "This was the best Raw in a long time" and "Raw certainly got its groove back". What the fuck are you talking about? Raw just closed out with Mark Henry, that heatless, charisma-free, slow lumbering stiff who has spent the last few years drifting between Smackdown and ECW without anybody caring, standing tall over the fallen WWE champion, and you praise this trash?
Any real wrestling fan who has watched for more than a few years understands that Raw, and WWE in general, is creatively in the toilet right now. They have the vast global expansion and raw merchandising power to see them through and continue to make big profits, but the product as a whole is stale, slow, and boring. However, it is also a LOT better than some of the bullshit that wrestling fans have been subjected to in the past, and it's YOUR CHOICE whether to watch it or not. I take it for what it is, enjoy the good matches, skip the bad ones, enjoy the entertainment value of performers like Edge and Jericho, and fast forward the endless McMahon and HHH/Orton segments. DVR is the way forward.
