411's TNA Hard Justice Report 8.16.09
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 08.16.2009

Hey yo. Welcome to 411's Hard Justice Report with a very ill and very uncomfortable Chris Lansdell and the usual host of cartoon characters. Before my body shuts down on me, let us get this party on the road, huh?

Whoa, they got Stephen Hawking! Come on, you'd love to see him in a match with Eric Young. The opening video focuses on Matt Morgan in the main event.

X-Division #1 Contender's Steel Asylum Match: Suicide vs. Chris Sabin vs. Amazing Red vs. Alex Shelley vs. Jay Lethal vs. Daniels vs. Consequences Creed

Lord, have mercy on my fingers and my keyboard. The Guns are out first and together, followed by Amazing Red who still looks 12. Daniels gets a big pop. Lethal Consequences are out together as well, which leaves us Suicide and Dinero. Suicide appears from a cloud of smoke, pretty sweet. Nice continuity with Lethal and Creed still pointing at Suicide's mask. To the surprise of no-one, Dinero is Elijah Burke, and he's a street preacher from Harlem allegedly.

Everyone attacks everyone. Daniels is on Sabin and whips him into Shelley. Orlando is chanting for the Pope. The Guns suplex Daniels on top of Suicide. Creed gets a European on the Pope then chases after Suicide who's at the top. Daniels leaps off the second rope into a shot by the Guns who hit the double kick and throw him to the cage. The Pope cuts Creed off but gets crotched. Creed with jabs to Red, Red ducks the final shot but gets caught by a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Lethal. Camel Clutch/low dropkick combo by Lethal and Creed. HOLY CRAP Dinero catches Lethal mid-handspring and hits a release German. The Guns hit a double kick to his gut then hit a low dropkick to either side of his head. Nice, the Guns are getting some serious spotlight. Daniels body slams Sabin off the second rope but then gets a jawbreaker off the top by Shelley. Suplex by Suicide to Red. Shelley hangs Dinero in the tree of woe, Suicide grabs him in a waistlock but Shelley escapes just before Sabin nails suicide with a forearm. Sabin whips Suicide and Shelley hits an overhead throw INTO DINERO IN THE TREE OF WOE!!! Sweet. Hesitation dropkick to Dinero! The Guns go up, Lethal Consequences cut them off. All four men are perched on the top rope...ENZIGUIRI by Creed to Sabin! Lethal RAMS Shelley's head into the cage! Now Daniels cuts him off...ICONOCLASM! Daniels tries to escape but Dinero cuts HIM off! They exchange shots and Dinero ducks a punch! Daniels punches steel! SPEAR OFF THE ROPES BY DINERO! Both men were sitting on the top when he hit that. Dropkick by Suicide to the Pope, Red cuts Suicide off but gets hit with a Finlay Roll. Suicide uses his momentum to go up after Shelley HOLY SHIT Sabin ran up behind him and release Germaned him off the top and into Red and Dinero!!!! Creed and Lethal go after Shelley but he hits them both with a crossbody! DDT/Flatliner combo! STOs by Dinero and Daniels to Shelley and Sabin, then they go at each other. Dinero whips Daniels who just runs up the ropes, Dinero follows and tries a double superplex, Suicide runs up...TOWER OF DOOM~! Creed tries to TKO Shelley but Shelley escapes and...umm...wow. They tie up Lethal and Creed in about 5 different submission holds at once, and that'\s about all I can say about that. Simply an awesome visual. Red doesn't like the visual and kicks Shelley in the skull. Red and Suicide trading shots, they trade counters and Suicide slams him face first. Spinebuster Slam by Dinero on Daniels! Blue Thunder on Dinero by Daniels! Sliced Bread by Shelley on Daniels! Face-first powerbomb by Lethal on Shelley! Tornado DDT by Sabin on Lethal! Gorilla press gutbuster by Creed on Sabin! FUCK ME a DDT-rana by Red! Red tries to climb but Shelley stops him. Knees by Red, now Creed, Suicide and Dinero and Daniels...fuck it everyone is climbing in the same corner. 7 man tower? TOP ROPE FLATLINER by Daniels to Dinero! Looked like a sliced bread from Suicide to Creed. Power bomb/sliced bread by the Guns to Lethal! Red with a pair of flying tornado inverted DDTs to the Guns and he's got a clear run! Daniels is closest and is trying to stop him! Red and Daniels are both hanging off the roof now, and Daniels throws him off into the crowd below! Daniels is hanging by his leg from the top of the cage! Suicide is climbing and is close but Dinero catches him and uses knee strikes to take him down! This is Dinero's to lose...and he gets down??? He wanted to ram Suicide into the cage and now Daniels has righted himself! He's free!

Winner: Daniels via escape
Rating: ***½ Great showcase for the Guns and some lovely spots, plus a really strong debut showing for Dinero. However it was a spotfest, Dinero climbing down from a winning position to hurt Suicide some more made no sense, and the camerawork made it hard to follow a lot of the action. As an opener it was perfect though, as it got the crowd fired up and gave them a face win.

Daniels cuts the standard "I'm going to beat whoever wins tonight" promo, then gives a shoutout to AJ.

Lauren is with Matt Morgan. Nobody controls the Blueprint. He wants to be in the MEM, but they jerked him around. He's going to win and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Bounty Match: Abyss vs. Jethro Holiday

Abyss even comes out in a hoodie. They start off in a slugfest with Jethro getting control, although Abyss quickly regains it. Jethro dodges a charge and lays in some shoulders and chops in the corner, but Abyss has been taking selling lessons from Nash and walks straight throughh them to level Holliday with one chop. To the floor they go and Abyss take Holliday to the rail, then the steps. Abyss lines up a big right hand but gets nothing but ringpost. Ouch. To the post and the steps goes Abyss, and now they're back inside. Holliday misses a second-rope elbow and lays in some shots in the corner. Abyss goes on the hunt for PLUNDAH! He has a chair and goes back to the ring, but Dr Stevie has given something to Holliday. Please God not another taser. No, it's a nightstick, far more acceptable. He wears out Abyss with it then sends Abyss crashing from the apron to the guard rail. Back inside and Jethro gets a 2 count. He lines up a chair shot GOOZLE! Holliday elbows out but eats a big boot. Baaaaack body drop! Abyss wants a slow hand clap for some reason, then crushes Jethro in the corner. Side slam gets 2. Abyss has the chair again, lays it on Holliday's chest and goes for an ass drop...HOLLIDAY TURNS THE CHAIR ON EDGE! God damn that's gonna hurt. Holliday with another nightstick shot and he gets 2. Holliday wedges the chair in the corner, he tries to whip Abyss into it but it's reversed, he tries the float over but Abyss is coming! Jethro eats the chair! Goozle! Chokeslam! 1...2...2.9226! Abyss goes to run the ropes and catches Dr Stevie trying to trip him! He grabs Stevie but Holliday saves him with a bulldog! Stevie passes in some...well, they were silver knux. The crowd are chanting for the Black Hole Slam as Jethro measures Abyss. Yup, there it is and there's the 3. Predictable much?

Winner: Abyss via pinfall (Black Hole Slam)
Rating: **¼ It wasn't bad for what it was, everyone and his dog who's ever seen an Abyss match saw the finish coming and as nasty as the chair to the groin was it was totally telegraphed. I just hope we don't have 6 months of bounty matches.

Post match, Stevie berates Holliday who levels him.

JB is with Angle who is fresh from a Starbucks parking lot. Angle says he doesn't think it will be every man for himself tonight, because he's going to have a chat with him. Don't let him have your Blackberry Matt!

For The World Title Shot Briefcase: Hernandez vs. Big Rob Terry

Jesus Christ Rob Terry is huge. I hope he never gets pulled over in Pittsburgh. SuperMex is out on his own and means business. He gets on the mic and says he has family in Mexico and in the US, which makes him a Latino American. The Impact Zone is his house. When they took his breifcase it was like they came into his house and took it from his family. So tonight there's not going to be a match, he's giving them two choices. They can give him his briefcase and walk away, or he can take it and walk out on top of all 3 of them. Ooooh, them's fighting words. And yes, looks like they're taking option C "Try to kill you". It doesn't go so well as Hernandez disposes of Williams and Magnus and then hits a big shoulder block. Cover, 1...2...3???

Winner: Hernandez via pinfall (shoulder block)
Rating: ¼* It was supposed to show Hernandez as a dominant force. It did that. It also made the British Invasion look like bumbling idiots though.

Well that should add fuel to the "he cashes in tonight" fire.

Beer Money are with Lauren. Storm says they are beating themselves by becoming soft and showing respect to Steiner and Booker. Roode says they are sick and tired of having emotions, feeling and heart. Tonight they're coming for the British Invasion.

IWGP Tag Team Title Match: Beer Money vs. British Invasion ©

EY is out in a PIMP SUIT! He's been raiding Kurt Angle's closet. Or maybe he just took it out of the evidence locker. He's going to be on commentary it seems. Here comes the Boozer Cruiser! Williams and Magnus seem to have recovered from being beaten up by Hernandez. Can we PLEASE have a Chaos Theory tonight? Please?

The crowd are calling Magnus a wanker. Win. Storm gets control very early with a knee to the face and a running neckbreaker. A pair of clotheslines by Storm, Magnus tries to toss him over the top but he skins the cat and comes back in with a flying forearm. ARRIBA! Storm tosses Magnus out but HE skins the cat...and gets kicked in the face. Storm low-bridges Williams and storm gets an assisted crossbody to the floor on both men. Back inside, Roode gets some chops to Magnus and then an inverted atomic. Roode drops his head too early and gets kicked in the face, the tag is made to Williams who hits a SILKY flying European. Roode comes back with a back elbow and a pair of clotheslines, tag is made to Storm and they hit a series of double teams culminating in a knee drop for 2 by Storm. Williams gets some forearms to regain control, he calls for Magnus but Storm runs through the double team and clotheslines both men. All 4 men in the ring, they hang Williams in the tree of woe and whip Magnus into him! EW they crotche Magnus on the face of Williams, then Magnus falls on top of him in a...shall we say compromising position? I think we shall. Storm gets a boot up to a charging Williams, but Williams comes back with some forearms and whips Storm into Magnus' knee. Magnus is in now, back elbow by Magnus. Tag back to Williams, what the hell are they doing? They just did a tour of Storm's hands and feet...never mind it was dumb. Whip to Storm, Williams hits a knee in the corner followed by a big boot by Magnus and a knee drop by Williams. Magnus is the legal man and gets a 2 count. Magnus slaps around Storm and gets his teeth rearranged with a superkick. Tag to Roode, clothesline! A pair! A trio! Baaaaaack body drop. Inverted atomic for Magnus! He is a House~! En! FUEGO~!! Chop for Williams and a Blockbuster gets 2. Whip to Magnus and Storm kicks him in the back of the head from the apron. Double team suplex! Wait for it...wait for it.....

BEER! MONEY~!

Assisted uranage slam by Roode gets two before Magnus breaks it up. They set for the DUI, Young is up from the table and tosses in the IWGP belt. Magnus uses the distraction to hit a low blow and Williams gets the rollup for 3!

Winners: British Invasion via pinfall (nutshot and inside cradle)
Rating: *** I thought this did very well. Magnus continues to develop and the two teams played off each other's strengths brilliantly and were it not for the overbooked finish this would have been even higher. Very enjoyable.

Post match, Beer Money are pissed and beat down everyone.

Lauren is with ODB and Deaner. Deaner says sexual harassment is a daily reality for Rhaka Khan, I mean the Deaner. That. Was. Horrible.

Knockouts Title Match: ODB w/Cody Deaner vs. Angelina Love © w/Velvet Sky

I still say this ends with Deaner as champion. Oh yes, here we go. What do you see Lion-O?

I love you cameraman.

ODB starts with some stiff shots in the corner but Love gets some boots to fight back. Scoop slam by ODB, Love gets out the back but gets caught with a fallaway slam. ODB tries a charge but bounces her boobs off the turnbuckle. Bulldog by Love and the tag to Sky, who hits some shoulder charges in the corner. Sky mounts ODB with some punches and goes for...doesn't matter, ODB flattens her and tags in the Deaner. ASS SLAP! God damn that's a lucky man. He puts her over the top and smacks her ass 10 times! "Looks familiar" - West. "You and Deaner?" - Tenay. 1-0 Tenay. ODB is tagged in, Sky tags Love. Velvet's ass is scarlet. Ohhh the images. Love gets kicked in the face as she charged ODB, who ciimbs to the top. Sky and Rayne distract ODB and Love hauls her off the ropes and gets a 2. Tag to Sky who gets an elbow drop and a 2 and is still selling the ass. She stands on the chest of ODB and stamps her for 2 more. Tag again, Love hits an avalanche in the corner and then Sky hits one. Snap mare by Sky and a basement dropkick by Love gets 2. Sleeper by Love but ODB breaks it with a back suplex. Tag is made to Sky and here comes Deaner! He ducks some punches and kisses her! Love is in and she gets an uber liplock! Rayne is on the apron and she gets TONGUE! Sky charges and gets drop toeheld to the ropes...oh God he's going to hump her from behind. LOW BLOW by Sky, thank God. BOTOX INJECTION by Love! ODB is in with the Thesz press and she rolls around with Love. Rayne is on the apron again! She has the spray...Deaner ducks! Sky gets the spray. Schoolboy! 1..2...3! New champeen!

Winners: ODB and Cody Deaner via pinfall (Deaner on Sky, schoolboy)
Rating: ** Meh, They were on a hiding to nothing really with Deaner in there, and they worked pretty well with it. Unfortunately it still wasn't good. Not even seeing Velvet's red ass could save it.

As I suspected, Deaner (who was slapping Sky's ass in time with the ref's count) disappears with the belt. The ladies scream at each other in the ring about whose fault it is.

X-Division Title Match: Samoa Joe vs. Homicide ©

Taz is out with Joe. Joe stands in the corner with his arms crossed as Homicide enters, as Taz used to do. These two have had some great matches in the past in RoH, let's see what they can do in TNA.

Joe with stinging jabs to start, he tries a knee lift but Homicide catches it and rolls through for a quick 2. Joe tries a kick but Homicide gets a trip and a jacknife pin for 2. Back elbow by Homicide and Joe retreats to the floor to regroup. Back inside and Joe gets a leg kick to get control. He charges and gets the turnbuckle, Homicide tries a monkey flip but Joe catches him, they work a series of counters ending in an elbow by Homicide. He tries for a rana but Joe stops short, lets him land then hits a belly to belly. Homicide goes to the floor and ELBOW SUICIDA! Back inside Joe gets a snap powerslam for 2. Joe chokes Homicide over the ropes, he comes back with chops and tries a suplex. Joe blocks it and hits a gorbuster, then a powerbomb. 1...2...STF! Into a crossface! Into a Rings of Saturn! Homicide makes the ropes to break it, so Joe settles for stomping on him. Homicide fights back and they exchange shots, Homicide takes control with some stiff shots and a clothesline, then a double chop and a pair of dropkicks to the knee. He comes off the ropes for a crossbody, Joe tries the tilt a whirl but Homicide takes him down anyway. Missile dropkick by Homicide and Joe goes to the floor. Tope con hilo by Homicide! Taz and Homicide star each other down, Homicide thinks better of it and rolls Joe back inside. Hangman's neckbreaker by Homicide gets 2. Homicide blocks a clothesline, Ace Crusher! 1...2...2.9368! Homicide sets for the Gringo Killa, Joe pushes him off, whips him hard to the corner and locks in the Koquina Clutch! Homicide tries to fight it but Joe rolls him to the ground and gets the hooks in, and Homicide taps.

Winner: Samoa Joe via submission (Koquina Clutch)
Rating: **3/4 I've seen these two do far better. It wasn't bad, but most of Homicide's offence felt forced and Joe looked like he begrudged having to give it up.

Angle invades Morgan's dressing room to grovel. Morgan basically says "Yo fault, had yo chance, blew it". Angle says as long as one of them wins the title, he's in the Mafia. Morgan accepts those terms. He ACCEEEEEPTS THEM!

TNA Tag Team Title Match: Team 3D vs. Booker T and Scott Steiner ©

This is now falls count anywhere and no DQ, which might make it watchable. We start with a brawl, as you'd expect. Of course the two black guys have to face off, because this is pro wrestling. 3D have control early and throw the MEM to the outside. They seem displeased with the progress of the match and are heading to the back, an idea with which 3D are not enamored. Ray whips Steiner into a wall, then into a railing. He squashed Steiner under the railing while Devon and Booker brawl up the steps in the crowd. Oh good, a crowd brawl. Devon and Booker are now brawling back DOWN the stairs. Smell that workrate! Steiner jumps on Ray and that hits him in the back with a chair for 2 in the crowd. So each pairing has a ref, what happens if Ray pins Steiner and Booker pins Devon simultaneously? Devon is wearing out Booker and Steiner is taking it to Ray with the chair. Steiner hits a crossbody off the first level of seats to the arena floor for 2. No higher than the top rope really. Somehow Steiner is now on the floor and Ray gets a chairshot for 2. Booker hits a stungun to Devon. This camerawork is awful, they are missing the momentum swings. Ray chokes Steiner with a chair in the neck while Devon hits Booker with a bottle of water. Orlando thinks this is awesome. Easily pleased much? Steiner gets a clothesline in the ring for 2. Scoop slam by Ray, and WAZZUUUUUUUUUUUP? Nails it.

Devon! WE BOTH FUCKED SABLE!

We have a table in the ring. Steiner is positioned on the table but Booker takes out Ray and Steiner gets off the table to crotch Devon. Steiner is looking for the Frankensteiner off the top through the table! Ray stops him and they set for the Doomsday! They hit it, but Booker moved the table. Side slam to Booker gets 2. BOOKEND THROUGH THE TABLE!! 1...2...no! Double back elbow to Devon gets 2 for the MEM. A kick by Booker gets 2 more. Booker goes for the Harlem sidekick but misses and crotches himself! Powerslam by Devon gets 2. Devon avoids the clothesline and Steiner hits Booker, allowing Devon to get a back suplex on Steiner for 2. A whip to Steiner is reversed, Steiner follows him in with a clothesline and starts with the mounted punches in the corner...powerbomb by Devon to escape! 1...2...no! Axe kick attempt misses! 3D! Cover! Steiner schoolboys Booker and we have a double pin! 1...2...3! Oh look, it's what I said would happen.

They're going to review the video footage? Of course everyone is ignoring the fact that Ray's arms we're both under the bottom rope. The refs award it to the MEM and nobody is happy with that. Shoddy execution of a decent idea.

Winners: The Main Event Mafia via pinfall (Steiner on Ray, pinfall)
Rating: *3/4 No. Not doing it for me. I hate crowd brawls, I hated the botched finish and it went on too long. It was better than it could have been, but that's not saying a lot.

JB is with Foley who explains the differences between him and Nash. Well apart from the fact that Foley knows how to sell?

TNA Legends Title Match: Mick Foley © vs. Kevin Nash

This match will be the oppostie of fast-paced. Foley is rocking the leopard print tonight. Orlando has a Super Shredder chant going, which warms my heart.

They lock up and Nash forces Foley into a corner then gets some kneelifts to the midsection. Big right hands by Nash but Foley ducks a short-arm clothesline and gets some rights of his own. Headbutt by Foley, more shots and a kick to the gut followed by a Mr Wrestling knee lift. Nash takes Foley to the floor, Foley tries to drag Nash out but Nash kicks him into the guardrail. Foley gets back to the apron but Nash gets some clubbing forearms and kicks Foley back to the floor. Nash goes out too and takes Foley to the rail several times. Nash has a chair and takes a Pujols-like swing, only to connect with the ring post as Foley ducks! Foley with some rights and a chairshot of his own. Another chairshot and Foley takes Nash to the rail. Now I see 3 Tvs. The match was bad enough on one. Foley goes for the elbow off the apron but Nash got the chair up! It rebounds into Foley's face and here comes the juice! Foley is busted BADLY. Nash rolls Foley in and measures some jabs to the cut eye of Foley. In an aaesome video there is blood splattered on the camera. The ref asks Foley if he wants the match stopped but Foley says no. Shock. Nash keeps after the eye, with elbows now. Nash has blood on his arm. Foley's eye is shut and covered in blood, but he calls Nash on and fights back hard. A forearm off the ropes takes Nash down. He tears out some hair and goes to the floor after Nash, taking him to the steps. Now Nash is cutt open and Foley is going after the wound. Nash caught a good one, it's dribbling pretty steady. Foley charges Nash in the corner but the ref gets in the way and gets squashed. Boot to the head of Nash as Foley fetches Barbie! Traci Brooks is out! Mick stops, turns around into a big boot and knocks Traci off the apron! Nash takes him down, we don't see how since we're watching Traci fall. Cover! 1...2...3!

Winner: Kevin Nash via pinfall (big boot)
Rating: *3/4 Better than I dared hope, but only because it got pretty brutal. It was never going to be a technical classic, and they did well with the physical limitations they both have.

Post match Nash takes the barbed wire bat to Foley, and wants more...ABYSS! He's out with a barbed wire bat of his own! Random! Hey, remember when Abyss was afraid of barbed wire?

Sting is with Lauren who says Matt is young and will learn from his mistakes, and Kurt will step on whoever he has to step on to protect Kurt. Sting says honesty, dignity and respect will come back in style, and he does mean styles. That's right, I'm pretty sure he said Styles. Hmmm.

TNA World Title Match: Kurt Angle © vs. Sting vs. Matt Morgan

Morgan is out first and is pumped. Sting of course has been here before. Angle, who by the way is clean-shaven again, is doing a remarkable job of shrugging off his troubles. So far. JB does the super-duper ring announcing. Bruce Buffer he is not. Morgan gets a "Next world champ" chant from the smarks in the front row.

Morgan goes right after Sting. We have our first "You got arrested" chant. Angle and Morgan take turns stamping on Sting. Europeans in the corner to Sting, Morgan hits an avalanche and Angle tries a huge shoulder but misses and almost goes through the corner post. Sting avoids the big boot from Morgan and sends him to the floor, then goes after them both. He whips Morgan to the railing right in front of Mrs Morgan, Sting tries to whip Angle into Morgan but Angle reverses it and Morgan levles Sting with a clothesline. Back inside, Angle drops an elbow and Morgan hits a HUGE legdrop. Doble back elbow to Sting. The crowd are split between Sting and Morgan. Angle and Morgan try a double backdrop but they drop their heads and Sting take Angle to the floor and lays the shots to Morgan in the corner. Angle tries to sneak up on Sting but gets whipped to the corner...Stinger splash! One for Morgan! One more for Angle! Another for Morgan! A clothesline to the back of the head sends Morgan to the floor. Suplex to Angle gets 2. Whip reversed, Angle ducks a Sting clothesline and hits a shot to Sting's gut. He throws Sting to the floor where Morgan is stalking him. Morgan beats on Sting outside while Angle deletes some photos and texts in the ring. Sting starts to fight back, Angle tries a slingshot crossbody to the floor but Sting ducks and Morgan catches Angle! Sting kicks them and they both go down! He throws Angle back in and follows, Angle gets a kick to the gut and tries the Angle Slam...reversed into a lucha arm drag! Scorpion Deathlock! Morgan gets on the apron, Sting breaks the hold to knock Morgan down and turns right into an Angle Slam for 2. Angle Lock! Sting kicks him off before Angle can lock it in and Angle goes to the floor. Morgan is back in and here comes the vicious back elbows! Avalanche in the corner and the standing side slam by Morgan. 1...2...no. He drapes Sting over the top and leaps on the back of his head, then drops a leg over his head as it hangs over the middle rope. Fallaway slam to Sting gets 2. Angle is still down somewhere, he needs 50ccs of HGH stat! Morgan hits the ropes but Kurt is low-bridging him! Morgan to the floor and he pushes Angle, then flicks sweat at him. Angle slaps him in the back of the head so Morgan tosses him to the floor...Carbon Footprint! Morgan goes back to the ring andcovers Sting but the ref is checking on Angle! Morgan remonstrates with Hebner! "SHUT UP! I'm with him, dammit!" SCORPION DEATHDROP! 1...2...2.9458! Hebner goes back out to check on Angle, now Sting is calling him. Morgan is measuring Sting...BAM! Carbon Footprint! Hebner is late comign in! 1...2...ANGLE pulls Hebner out of the ring! He has the chair and swings...creams Morgan like his name was Rhaka Khan! Nails Sting! Angle considers for a minute...covers Morgan! Here's Hebner...1...2...3! Screw you internet!

Winner: Kurt Angle via pinfall (on Morgan, chairshot)
Rating: **3/4 Angle looked really out of it tonight, which I suppose is not surprising. Unfortunately the quality of the match was always going to hinge on him, and it suffered as a result. Sting and Morgan weren't bad, but neither of them is Kurt Angle.

TNA is dead to me...Not even ROMAnia running wild could help them now

Angle Retained? No surprise.

Okay, this is an epic fail if I ever saw one.

Why in the hell wouldn't they hotshot it back to Sting or over to Morgan in this case? RVD was caught for possession and he got jobbed out TWICE (of course he had two belts) and then taken off the air for 90 days, because to have the champ, the face of your company, be someone facing criminal charges, is ... STUPID!

What about doom metal?

So......

2nd Worst PPV of the year?

TNA is a despicable company! If they had any shred of decency they would have taken the title off Angle and fired his ass and told him he isnt allowed back until he goes to rehab. What it is going to take for him to get help? Death?

Everyone Expected for angle to drop the title tonight.............

Thats why TNA is so terrible

Posted By: Marco (Guest)  on August 16, 2009 at 11:30 PM

As a non-follower of TNA, this is the most interesting thing they've done in a while. It took a pair of grapefruits to keep the title on Angle and WWE wishes they were edgy enough (still) to try something like that.

Posted By: eh (Guest)  on August 16, 2009 at 11:31 PM

So Kurt loses the title on Thursday? It was better than Victory Road anyway.

Posted By: Bill (Guest)  on August 16, 2009 at 11:33 PM

Doesn't sound like much fun.
Hurry up, Elijah.

Maybe Angle's keeping the title so he can be on Dancing With the Stars.

Posted By: dwts (Guest)  on August 16, 2009 at 11:35 PM

eh, umm yea WWE won't try something "edgy" like this because their champions have to actually defend their titles.

And they can't do that if they're in, you know, JAIL!!!

You do know Jeff Hardy is one strike away from getting publicly fired, is currently working on a contract that expires in a week and is their World Heavyweight Champion right? Just Checking.

Oh and having the face of your company go to court is BAD publicity.

Holy shit, Angle still wins even though he's a she-beast stalking psycho???

TNA is truly scum central.

"TNA is a despicable company! If they had any shred of decency they would have taken the title off Angle and fired his ass and told him he isnt allowed back until he goes to rehab. What it is going to take for him to get help? Death?"

without a conviction, Angle would own them in a breach of contract/wrongful dismissal case.

Does anyone else think that after yesterday's events, it would have been funnier if this was the "Lockdown" ppv.

Screw TNA..this is yet another reason why they're a second rate company and will never get passed that. Angle spends the day in jail then retains the title the next night.

BTW...for all of you who are going to give 400 reasons why they're not "second rate"...it's 2009 and they have a championship that a gray-haired Kevin Nash just won by beating Mick Foley...

I wonder if they're hoping the WWE will release Sgt Slaughter and Hacksaw..so they can bring them in for a run at the tag titles?

To all the TNA fanboys, the reason people with logic think Angle should have lost the title wasn't because he is guilty, but because he has shown himself to be unstable. A brake might actually be good for him and let the whole Jarret-Angle thing blow over.

I'm disgusted that TNA would continue to keep Angle in the top spot in the company. They had bloody well better move the belt off of him at the tapings. I don't care how hot Dixie is on him, he's going to bring a huge cloud over the company if they continue to treat him like a god after all the shit that's gone down this weekend.

TNA is dead to me too. I always had a little hope that it could still survive but after tonight, that hope is gone. Angle needs help and TNA is being an enabler. I hope I am wrong but Kurt will be dead within two years of an OD. An OD that TNA did nothing to stop.

For everyone crying about 'guilty until proven innocent'...

TNA isn't a court of law. They are an entertainment company trying desperatley to be viewed as a national promotion and a legitimate alternative to the WWE.

They have to know that 99% of the audience who bought that PPV know Angle was arrested because they follow wrestling news sites

And for those that don't the story was covered by major news sites like ESPN and TMZ

Keeping the belt on Kurt, even with the tapings coming up, makes TNA look stupidly shortsighted and innefectual

They just lived up tp every negative stereotype the mainstream media has about the wrestling business.

Congrats TNA

Ok let me get this straight, TNA wants to oust Jeff Jerret because he is living with Karen Angle. They let Kurt keep the title after being arested for stalking, driving with a suspended license and having syringes with HGH in them. I am sorry for a while there I started to like TNA but now I lost respect for them. I hope the board really gets their stuff together and decide that some of their decisions are bad. If you want to get rid of Jeff for living with Karen, then you need to get rid of Kurt. I like Kurt but enough is enough!!

"You do know Jeff Hardy is one strike away from getting publicly fired, is currently working on a contract that expires in a week and is their World Heavyweight Champion right? Just Checking."

So?? Hardy is dull as dishwater. Drugged out HBK circa '97 = edgy, multi-hair colored emo-punk that regrets bad choices in life =/= edgy. And a contract expiring soon means nothing ... now if Hardy wins at SS and still hasnt resigned, then E would be taking a chance. And main events often dont face wellness violations, otherwise HHH and Batista would have some explaining to do.

I so sick of this "WWE is the end-all, be-all" mentality of some so-called wrestling fans and writers on this site. I keep hearing how horrible TNA ppv's are(which besides Victory Road, isnt true) but these same people fail to realize that WWE ppvs have really blown lately. Angle keeping the title is something unexpected, but it shows that TNA is 100% behind Kurt Angle, and they should be. The law is innocent until proven guilty and I think the IWC has forgotten that.

Kurt has been driving with a suspended license for months now. And he did steal Rhaka Khan's Cellphone and did temper with it's memory. Has for the HGH it is possible that they were prescribed, however to have the used syringes so close on him in his car may suggest he was on HGH while driving (with a suspended license) and could be impaired while driving. As for him assaulting Rhaka Khan, what real reason does she have for lying? She may lose her job with TNA if she gets their top draw in Jail time.

Yes innocent before proven guilty, but he's sadly already guilty on a number of these things.

Fuck you, Dixie... if and when Angle is found dead in his hotel room (god forbid), you can look back on decisions like this one, look yourself in the mirror, and realize YOU did this. For what? An extra .2 in the ratings?
Angle is gone. He can't be trusted to make rational decisions anymore, because he is CLEARLY unable to do what is best for his long-term health. He never should have signed with TNA when he did, because he was a wreck when he left Vince in 2006. Does anyone here really think a talent like Angle would have been let go if he didn't have SERIOUS issues? Dixie took a big risk signing him, which I understand. It's a business, Angle is money, I get it. But for Christ's sake, enough is enough. Is it really worth a man's life, Dixie? Have him drop the title to Hernandez on Impact, send him home, and don't bring him back until he has completed a rehab program.

I like and respect Landsell, but he was a little generous with those ratings - no way that main event was 2 3/4 out of 5, and the knockouts match was a mess.

Most of all, the booking for the finishes of these matches were all horrid - cheap replay ending for MEM vs. Team 3D was dumb, the Nash/Foley match was decent but the cheap ending and title change was silly; and Angle retaining when Hernandez or even Styles getting the belt somehow would have been more satisfying (and right)...

Ugh, not their worst show of the year, but that's actually saying something pretty bad when you think about it.

Completely agree.

Guilty or not, Angle has issues that need to be sorted out before he can focus on his wrestling career.

That TNA has simply brushed this under the rug, while removing Jeff Jarrett from the company for things far less serious than this, shows just how bush league and incompetent TNA management is.

I'm not saying WWE would handle the situation better or differently, but for once we have a wrestling black eye that the vultures cannot possibly connect to Vince McMahon.

Innocent until proven guilty applies only to the justice system. The public, IWC, or your employer does not have to wait until you are proven guilty to take some sort of action. If a teacher is accused of molesting a child should the school wait until the trial is over until action is taken?

Nope, not at all, but they should certainly take more than TWO F'N DAYS to make a decision.

Now, though I agree TNA should have pulled the belt off of Angle, I think their idiotic decision had more to do with lack of booking strength than Dixie being some sort of horrible person (remember, TNA just got rid of 2/3rds of their bookers).

They've been building the MEM for a Bound for Glory loss, and spent the past couple of days booking for if Angle DIDN'T show up. I don't think they put a whole lot of thought into what to do if he DID show up.

I'm not excusing them, but I don't think it's an evil decision on their part as much as a horrible position they've been put in.

Now for all of you saying how wonderful and thoughtful WWE is about getting rid of RVD and all, you don't REALLY think this has anything to do with Vince being a good person, do you? Vince spent several years milking Eddie Guerrero's death for ratings. He spent YEARS and YEARS hiring and pushing every roided-up meathead on the planet, and only "cares" now because of the shareholders.

Panda Energy is not a publicly-traded company. So they only need to worry about themselves. Add that to the fact that most people outside of smarks don't tie TNA to Panda, and it's unlikely to cause any impact on Panda's business (but trust me, if it does, TNA will be in deep s***).

The only people that TNA answers to are the fans. The government has no recourse against them, because they've done nothing illegal (there's nothing illegal about hiring a moron). So, unless the fans leave (which they won't), TNA doesn't have to worry about much.

Is it a smart decision by TNA? No. But is it an evil, soulless one? No.

It's a sucky situation that they need to find a way out of. However, a knee-jerk reaction probably isn't their best decision.

They'll be filming shows starting Tuesday, which gives them time to plan their next steps. If they don't pull the belt from Angle on the next show, I'll be more critical. But right now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe they are still dropping the title but they didn't think Morgan or Sting we're the correct choice so they decided to have Angle hold on to the title and drop it at the next impact taping?

So much for Kurt ever re-signing with the E again. But in all seriousness this guy needs a break and Dixie should seriously grow the pair and tell him to do so. It would be a good long term investment for the growth of this otherwise rudderless company.

Yea okay, "I hate Rob Terry he cant wrestle but he should of still wrestled so I can continue my whining" "Gosh why Did Nash win that damn legends belt even though I don't consider it as a legit belt but either way this is why TNA is the stupidz" "Angle should of lost that belt even though I don't know all the facts but DAMNIT it's Damn Real Damn Real to me he's guilty."OWNED.

Now I too am surprised Angle keep the belt, but here's a thought, since TNA isn't getting very high buy rates for thier PPV's and it's just a system of extra cash for them, why not wait a day, see how much trouble Angle is really in, personal and legal, then JOB him on TV in front of a much larger audience. If you give big Hernandez his title shot and he wins you've got a new star. do that on PPV and nobody has seen it.

Why in the hell wouldn't they hotshot it back to Sting or over to Morgan in this case? Victory Road is still the worst wrestling PPV of the year, but this was a close second, TNA needs to make some big changes.

And is anyone else sick of reviews which say things like "it was decent considering the guys age" or "it was what it was", why not just tell the truth, virtually everything on this show was not PPV quality.

Wrestling always has heen a sleezy business, it may have physically moved from the carnival grounds but the mentality is still there. Does TNA even have a public image to uphold? When people hear the word wrestling, they think WWE. So the IWC is pissed, oh well we really don't matter and we are already going to watch. Is it a stupid idea to keep the belt on him, yeah but it wouldn't be the first stupid idea and it won't be the last.
I'm guessing Hernandez cashes in this week and wins the belt.

Posted By: DC (Guest)  on August 17, 2009 at 10:52 AM

I do have a question for my fellow posters, I am really curious what the public opinion would be. I agree that Angle as champ is ricockulous as Jericho would say. But would you rather see Hernandez cash in at the PPV or perhaps on Impact? Which would be a better decision by TNA? Neither would be advertised, so I don't know that it would be about PPV buys.
Maybe that's why Angle kept the belt. Maybe they wanted to pull the shocker on Impact, then put another contender vs Hernandez at the next PPV if they suspend Kurt (Joe maybe?)
But then again, this is TNA, and they are retarded.

Posted By: Brian (Guest)  on August 17, 2009 at 11:09 AM

Of course Angle retained right here. no has thought that the important "decision" AJ Styles has on impact will have to do with the title? I expect AJ to defeat Angle in one of the tapings i agree the belt should be off Angle and Kurt should be taken off TV for a while .. on a side note people talk shit about Mick Foley and Nash match true it wasnt a technical clinic or nothing but u brather watching a stupid leprechaun go over on half the roster ?

Posted By: Guest#0028 (Guest)  on August 17, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Wrestling has a poor public image as it is and like it or not, this type of shit does nothing but harm.
If TNA had the slightest bit of integrity they would not allow Angle to remain the champion of the company while the allegations are floating around. Even something as small as having him lose the title for a while would have shown they'd done something, anything, to address the situation.
Doing nothing puts forth the perception that TNA doesn't care about what's happened. Their top champion has a car full of syringes and HGH and is reportedly behaving in a far from stable manner. Taking the title from him last night would have deflected much of the flack, they could even have left him on TV until the case is over. Just because they're not publicly traded doesn't mean their image does not suffer.
Stupid and gutless decision by TNA.

Yeah the Angle situation is a tricky one, but look at it this way.. TNA pulled a surprise by having Angle retain since they really couldn't put the belt on Morgan or Sting and Hernandez is not ready yet. But With Daniels winning, Daniels could be the guy to upset Angle for the belt.

That would make the IWC explode since Daniels is a favorite. So in reality, TNA might have done the right thing..we'll see what happens at the Impact tapings. If all of this leads to Daniels vs AJ for a World Title then I'm all for seeing the next step.

reguardless of his actions kurt angle is still one of the best wrestlers on the planet............and heres why they didnt strip angle.........you can tell they planned for all mem to walk out champion.........they have a huge story around mem.........so would it really make since to stop what had be a pretty long storyline over something that obviously wasnt even bad enough to keep him in jail???????I believe they plan to end it at bound 4 glory...........with the originals in control..........anyway it would really make mem look bad if he loses the title 1 month after winning it........plus who would you have win???? morgan??? which is not ready......I like him but i still think hes not ready.....i mean could he main event bound 4 glory???? hell no!!!! and sting ....legend....icon.....yes hes good....but he has main evented 3 of the last 4 bound 4 glorys.......should we make it 4 out if 5........i think not........if every years main event has the same guy it can get old.....so what they did was right........the showed balls........unlike wwe who completely screws rvd just for weed........i mean look at jeff hardy......many drug problems....which he had one this year if im not mistaking.......has been in the main event picture for a long time.......and has held the title twice.......i mean hes champ right now.......why hasent he been dropped??? they were just out to screw rvd........the didnt like that he was better and more popular than most of their talent......my bad for rambling on.....im done.......

Ok, I'm a HUGE TNA mark, but seriously, fuck them straight to hell.

What the hell? Do they have no sense of decency whatsoever?

At least WWE tries to do damage control and disciplines their performers.

Kurt Angle vs. Sting vs. Matt Morgan: This was the best TNA main event in recent memory. The story of Angle and Morgan working together early on worked nicely, and having three men in the ring led to better action than Angle could have had in singles matches with either man.

Kevin Nash vs. Mick Foley: A lot of blood goes a long way. Both veterans gave it everything they had and the match was much better than anyone expected it would be. The blood enhanced the match in a big way. Unfortunately, I still don't give a damn about the TNA Legends Title.

Asylum match: A fun opening match. D'Angelo Dinero looked major league for his debut. I still question whether it was a wise decision to have him make an unadvertised in-ring appearance and lose in his debut. Yes, they teased he would be at the pay-per-view, but none of the advertising on the TNA website listed him as being part of the actual match. That said, the match provided some really fun moments and got the crowd going to open the show.

Scott Steiner and Booker T vs. Team 3D: A fun brawl. Steiner went above and beyond in this match by taking some big bumps (by his standards) and by diving off the guardrail. The finish came off poorly because no one had a good explanation for why Steiner and Booker retained. Why not just say the champion retains in the event of a tie?

Hernandez vs. Rob Terry: Hernandez went over strong in 30 seconds. Nothing wrong with that. He also delivered a nice promo. Of the three guys they're pushing aggressively, I have the most confidence in Hernandez getting over.

British Invasion vs. Beer Money: The Hit goes to Beer Money. The team is getting over in a big way. I could have done without Eric Young on commentary. They're trying hard to get him over, but it's just not clicking with this viewer. If nothing else, I give TNA credit for trying to elevate mid-card talent.

Abyss vs. Jethro Holiday: Fine for what it was. It's just too bad they haven't done anything to establish Holiday's character. He just seems lost in the shuffle at this point. By the way, my guess is that Mick Foley attempts to cash in on the bounty that Dr. Stevie has placed on Abyss's head. Abyss and Foley will probably team once on pay-per-view and then move into a feud. Just a guess, though.

TNA ignores the Kurt Angle story and keeps the title on him: TNA was in a tough spot here because Angle and Rhaka Khan are both under contract. I'm not sure what they could have said, but some acknowledgement of the situation would have been nice. I have more of a problem with them keeping the title on Angle. I didn't expect TNA to keep him off the pay-per-view. After all, Ben Roethlisberger is still playing football despite being accused of rape in a civil lawsuit. However, I would have had Angle drop the title and head home to clear his name. The most embarrassing aspect of this for TNA is that they wouldn't comment on their own drug testing policy.

Samoa Joe vs. Homicide: I expected so much more from this match. The ring work was strong for as long as the match lasted, but they really needed another five minutes.

ODB and Cody Deaner vs. Angelina Love and Velvet Sky: I had no idea whether this was supposed to be a singles match or a tag match until they got started. Did Don West really say there should be sexual assault charges filed against Deaner? Given the allegations against Angle (which are not sexual), it might not be good to mention any type of assault charges. The match was a mess and the post-match bit with Deaner walking out with the TNA Knockouts Title was embarrassing. There are so many good things happening in the Knockouts Division, so why in the world would they use the title as a prop in a comedy storyline?

Hard Justice name: Fans have been mocking the gay porn sounding name since TNA introduced it, yet the company refuses to change it. It's not like there's any emotional attachment to the name or the concept. I'm not sure whether Hard Justice or Bound For Glory sounds more homoerotic.

"I'm not sure whether Hard Justice or Bound For Glory sounds more homoerotic."

This is hardly the most homoerotism you'll find in an entertainment venue designed around two buff guys in spandex underwear grappling, trying to top the other guy for 3 seconds.

I LOVE how every WWE mark is coming out of the woodwork saying how horrible TNA is.

I find it even funnier that they are praising McMahon, Vince "I'd like to have an incest angle with my daughter and I thought it would be a great idea to have a wrestler perform necrophilia and I'll ride the corpse of Eddie Guerrero nonstop as long as it provides me funds and I'll push Jeff Hardy even though he's on two and a half 'strikes' of our fake-ass drug policy as long as he sells t-shirts" McMahon as the bastion of morality.

Trust me, kiddies -- the ONLY reason McMahon took the belt off of RVD is because ONE OF HIS FUCKING WRESTLERS KILLED HIS FUCKING FAMILY AND MCMAHON HAS STOCKHOLDERS TO LISTEN TO.

Otherwise, McMahon would have turned RVD's drug bust into an angle and given him a finishing maneuver called the "4:20". And he would still have the belt until he lost it to HHH months later.

But, yeah, TNA is EVIIILLL because they don't make a knee-jerk booking decision on a PPV that's already been planned for months on their biggest angle ever.

What the WWEunuchs don't realize is that TNA is actually the victim here. Angle is the one that screwed up. They're stuck with a major angle whose lynch-pin just screwed up in a major way. Cut them a bit of slack just because they didn't hot-shot the title off of him.

If they still have the belt on him in a couple of weeks (and the charges haven't been dropped or altered drastically), THEN you can bitch.

And, no, driving without a license is not enough to drop someone as a champion. Otherwise, it puts Flair's major end-game push into question, since the dumb-fuck choked someone out in 2005 because of road rage (And Flair was intercontinental champion at the time and DIDN'T lose the belt. And it was turned into an angle on TV. Of course, if TNA kept pushing him after that, they would be called EVIIIILLL, but since it's WWE, all is forgiven).

If Angle was "just" champion, and not involved in the MEM angle, I might agree with you about him dropping the belt. But right now, TNA made the right decision.

Lest we forget Angle has issued a statement through his lawyer denying all the claims made by Khan.

It could be Kurt finished with Rhaka and she is trying to get back at him.

Two sides to every story.

Bitches do lie, it's not unheard of.

Umm...is your hatred for the WWE so deep that you're forgetting that the belts were taken off RVD a full year BEFORE the Benoit incident?

With the kind of history revisionism you've displayed here, you should write for the WWE. Seriously. Your pen name can be Vince Russo II.

What will please the smart marks won't please the general public, and vise versa. So why not please (roughly) 90% of you're fan base, instead of 10? Why not push Bobby Lashley if it will get you national exposure? Why not push an old geezer if he sells merchandise? Wrestling is a business. Businesses make money. If they don't make money, they will die.

I love how you bring up this point (my chronology was off -- who gives a fuck?), but fail to mention the very valid points about Flair that are pretty much the EXACT SAME THING all of you WWEunuchs are complaining about TNA for.

Flair had the belt. He got arrested for choking someone out for road rage. He didn't drop the belt, and the saintly McMahon not only didn't make him drop the belt, but also turned it into part of the angle with Edge.

So tell me how that's any different.

Or should I start calling you "Stephanie McMahon II", since you like to forget history when it's convenient to a point you want to make, even if you're slapped in the face with it?

BTW, I don't hate WWE. I nothing them. I don't watch the product, don't care if they succeed or if they fail. It's the sad little WWE Marks that have to bash every decision that TNA makes (even when they make smart ones) because the pathetic WWE trolls can't handle anyone that isn't WWE.

TNA made the smart decision -- for now. If you can provide a better alternative for the sake of the MEM dominance storyline, I'd love to hear it. They need time to think, and to find out about the full charges (and how many of them will stick) before they make a rash decision.

Yanking the belt and putting it back on Sting or putting it on Morgan would have both been huge mistakes. At very least, they'd need to put it on another MEM member.

Give the belt to Hernandez. Easy solution, Jimbo.

"Give the belt to Hernandez."

To what end? How does that make sense in the MEM storyline? You could replace "Give the Belt to Hernandez" with "Give the belt to any wrestler not in the MEM"

It doesn't. Giving the belt to someone that doesn't further the MEM storyline is idiotic when they're this close to the conclusion.

The only thing they could have done that would make any sense would be to have Joe lose to Homicide, and then enter the title match in Angle's stead and win the belt. (And even THAT is stupid).

I'm willing to give them a few days to figure it out. It sounds like they didn't have Angle drop it the first taping (though, honestly, things change a lot between their tapings and the actual broadcast). If they don't remedy the situation in the next taping or two, I'll be bitching right along with you.

Angle royally screwed TNA (maybe he's working for WWE already). However, that doesn't mean that they're wrong for getting all of their ducks in a row before making a snap decision on the eve of the resolution of their biggest angle ever.

(BTW, I'm guessing you meant "Shown Jones" as your name. It would help if you learned how to spell simple words when you're trying to prove a point.)

"Of course everyone is ignoring the fact that Ray's arms we're both under the bottom rope."

Do you know what falls count anywhere means? Let me explain; falls count anywhere (even under the ropes).

I like how Abyss got involved after the Foley/Nash match (which was amazingly bloody. Win.) which gives him some time to hang with Foley and Nash has reason to feud with Abyss ($50k bounty). That could be interesting.
