411's ECW on SyFy Report 9.22.09
Posted by Michael Bauer on 09.22.2009

Welcome to the ECW on SyFy! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. And tonight, we get Christian defending the ECW Title against Zack Ryder.

But we kick off with Tony Atlas introducing Abraham Washington Show and the very controversial Abraham Washington. Tony Atlas is charismatic? HA! The Applause picture is ignored by everyone and Tony's cheap laughing should be as well. Abraham wastes no time in bringing out his guest, the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus. And he comes out in a suit or something like it. Abraham has to put on shades to block out the whiteness of Sheamus' skin and says he makes Casper look like a brother. Sheamus says it is an honor to be on the set of Sanford and Son. HA! Abraham brings up the Shelton situation and Sheamus says that he put in the hard work and Shelton stole the victory. Tony is laughing because he sounds like a Lucky Charm commercial. Abraham mentions that he eliminated Shelton after being eliminated himself in the battle royal. Sheamus calls it an eye for an eye and Washington brings out Shelton Benjamin. Abraham doesn't want this to become the Jerry Springer show and he compliments Shelton's hair before asking for is side of things. Shelton then says he is shocked Abraham hasn't been cancelled yet. Shelton then talks about the concept of being a team and that they both won two weeks. Sheamus calls this a culture clash and that Shelton believes in stealing and taking the easy way out, without honor. Shelton says he did some research on Celtic Warriors and admits he comes from a line of legends… like Momma Wendy, Carrot Top, and Ronald McDonald. HA! Tony can't stop he corny ass laughing and Shelton dares Sheamus to take him out. Tony tries to talk him out of it and Sheamus blind sides Shelton. The "security" comes out to break them up and we break away with Washington trying to play guest control.

Backstage, Yoshi Tatsu is walking towards the ring as we go to commercial.

Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea) vs. Yoshi Tatsu

Yoshi is back out I the green and I agree, he should keep those colors. The bell rings and Burchill goes quickly to clubbing blows to the back. Yoshi flips out of a n arm wrench using the ropes and gets a headlock. Burchill whips Tatsu, but the shoulder block was ineffective. Tatsu with a leg sweep for one, gets whipped, and hits a sunset flip for two. Tatsu hits a few dropkicks and gets clotheslined to the floor. Tatsu flies with a dive to the floor. Burchill rolled back in and Katie Lea distracts Tatsu long enough for Paul to catch Yoshi on the top rope. Burchill connects with a Fisherman's Buster off the top rope! Damn! Burchill gets a near fall and goes to the chin lock. Yoshi escapes with punches and runs to the ropes, but Burchill catches him with a Samoan Drop (HE'S NOT EVEN SAMOAN!) for a two count. Burchill stops Tatsu from escaping a headlock and connects with a Full Nelson Bomb into the Full Nelson submission!! Yoshi gets to his feet and the ropes to fall back for a near fall. Yoshi now lays into Paul with the kicks and hits a huge spinning roundhouse to the gut. Burchill gets hit with the spinning snap mare and another kick to the chest. Tatsu goes up top and hits a leaping spinning wheel kicks for two. Burchill catches Tatsu with a knee to the gut and heads up top. Burchill leaps off and hits a knee drop to the chest but only gets two!! Burchill lifts up Tatsu for another huge move, but Yoshi shoves Burchill into the turnbuckle. Paul spins right into the roundhouse kick to the head for the three count at 6:25!

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu

Match Rating: **3/4 That was a really good match which saw both men play off each other's style very well.

Striker is dancing to Yoshi's music as we get a replay of Zack Ryder winning the #1 Contendership last week. We go backstage to Ryder saying that he doesn't squander opportunities, but instead he makes his opportunity. He also states that after tonight, we all know he will be the ECW Champion.

Back from the break and Katie Lea is surprised by Gregory Helms, looking for some answers. Katie Lea says that Paul won't stand for his games and Burchill comes out of nowhere to leave Gregory Helms lying.

Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov vs. Dustin Brady and Brandon Young

I hope WWE can afford two graves. The bell rings and Kozlov starts with Young and grounds him with a grapple takedown. The kid gets to the ropes and slaps Kozlov. Big mistake kid. Jackson gets tagged in and he clubs Young before sending him shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Brady gets a tag somehow and gets tossed all the way across the ring. Brady gets whipped into the corner and Kozlov is tagged in. Kozlov heads the belly to back suplex and chucks the kid into the corner. Jackson tagged back in and decapitates Brady with a short arm clothesline and ends the match with his one handed slam at 2:00. Kozlov then adds the Iron Curtain onto Young for no reason.

Winners: Regal's Roundtable

Match Rating: ¾* Extended Squash. Next.

Back with Matt Striker and Josh Matthews, who run down the Hell in a Cell card or at least the Raw piece of it.

Backstage, Regal says he is not looking forward to his match with Goldust, since it is a joke. Such as the ECW Title match coming up.

After the Smackdown Rebound off Teddy Long being kidnapped, we see Christian looking at his ECW Title, as the main event is next.

ECW Title Match – Christian vs. Zach Ryder

We get the super special ring announcing for this match, as this is the biggest match on ECW in forever. The bell rings and they lockup. Christian quickly with a whip, but Ryder gets a shoulder block. Ryder backs Christian into the corner and Christian nails a huge slap to the face. Christian sent off the ropes and he hits a shoulder block and gets a hear fall, showing Ryder how close he was from winning. Ryder goes to the gut and punches him into the corner, but Christian fights out. Ryder goes back to the gut and chokes Christian on the ropes. Christian counters Ryder's lift up into a head scissors. Ryder goes to the floor and Christian fakes the dive out. Christian leaps over Ryder's leg sweep twice and kicks him in the head. Christian hits a low dropkick to keep Ryder on the floor before leaping and diving off the top rope to the floor on Zack Ryder. Ryder rolled back in and Christian goes up top, but Ryder picks the ankle and gets a two count as we go to commercial at 3:30.

Back from the break at 6:40 as Ryder hits a back body drop on Christian for a two count. Christian hits an elbow and a mule kick out of the corner. Christian with the springboard sunset flip for a two count. Ryder sent off the rope and Christian hits a drop kick. Ryder rolls to the apron and Christian follows. Ryder elbows Christian and shoves him off the apron and into the ring steps. Ryder drives him into the apron and rolls him in for a two count. Ryder goes to a leg vice, but Christian rolls out and punches away on Ryder. Christian runs off the ropes and right into a knee to the gut for another near fall. Christian is hot-shotted off the top rope and Ryder gets another near fall. Ryder locks in the body scissors and uses headbutts to keep him down. Christian escapes and Ryder goes up top the second rope. Ryder leaps, but Christian catches him with a flapjack Christian with a forearm smash and then he stands on Ryder's back on the ropes. Christian to the apron, but Ryder hits a knee to the gut and flips him back in. Christian ducks under the high leg lariat and hits the inverted DDT and the Flash Point before getting a two count. Christian hits a missile dropkick for another near fall. Christian avoids the Zack Attack out nowhere and tries the sunset flip again, but Ryder drops down in shades of Wimbley Stadium for a near fall. Christian hits another missile dropkick and goes for the KillSwitch. Ryder throws Christian to the floor, but he lands on his feet. Christian heads up top, but Ryder avoids the flying body press! Ryder hits the Roughrider Leg Lariat and gets a two fall. Christian slips away from Ryder and tries the Killswitch again, but Ryder slips away. Christian catches Ryder by the ropes and snaps his neck. Christian hits the leaping spin heel kick to the face and finishes off Ryder with the KillSwitch at 13:40 to retain the ECW Title!

Winner and Still ECW Champion: Christian

Match Rating: **** That was even better than their match a few months ago. Outstanding match!

After the bell, Regal comes out and says he is coming again for the ECW Title. Christian responds by beating the tar out of Regal until Regal can escape. Christian holds the title high as the program ends.

Ryder looked a lot more confident in this match, and it seemed that he was able to go the distance this time without blowing up.

Zack Ryder may not have won his matches with Christian, but both of them went a long way towards showing that he can be ECW Champion in the future...you know it.

Seeing Christian retain his title and then dominate his main rival reminds me of Cena...

And instead of keeping this four star matches for the PPV and putting over a new young talent there, the WWE gives it away on free TV AND pushes out the has been and washed Regal instead for the title.....EPIC FAIL FOR THE E

Here is your typical poser of a wrestling fan looking desperately for something to bitch about.

I would love to see that guy call Regal washed up to his face.

I like the main event but 4 stars is a little to much

Great Ecw,a shame Shelton and Sheamus weren't in action

And another thing enough with the Samoan Drop issue, the move is called a samoan drop.He doesn't have to be Samoan to use it,same with the
Irish Whip,Boston Crab,Texas Cloverleaf,Mexican Stretchbuster,Russian Leg Sweep,and so on....

Also Ezekiel's finisher is a modified Uranage.

Regal washed up? Do you watch wrestling or just fast forward thru matches and come on here and complain?

Ryder was very good...losing doesn't hurt him and hey a Champ can actually retain a title and not flip flop.

Saying Christian reminds you of CENA is the reason most of the IWC are unitelligent morons. You don't know what you want. Guys hold the title too long so they are boring. Titles change hands at 3 PPVs in a row so it means the title is devalued. What do you want!?!?!? I cannot image want would have been said about Hogan and Flair back in the day.

More Burchill and KATIE LEE please!!!!!

I'm pretty sure more people see the free TV shows than order PPV's, so putting matches for rising talent on free TV actually gives them more exposure.

Great ECW. I found myself marking out for the first time in ages for the main event.

Even in loss this elevates Ryder up the ladder. Great Stuff.

ECW continues to be better and more interesting than Raw.

This has to be the lamest argument people ever use. So what if Regal's insulted by someone face-to-face? The worse that can happen is Regal beats the guy up. What changes? If nothing else, the guy now has an even WORSE opinion. It's like calling some musclehead narcissist an asshole. OK, so he gets mad and beats you up. He's still an asshole so what does the whole 'I dare you to say that to his face' thing prove?

Are you REALLY complaining because you got to watch a 4 star match for FREE? This still elevated Ryder, quit fucking whining.

Didn't see it, but any chance Dustin Brady and Brandon Young were PWG's Dustin & Brandon Cutler?

Christian should have dropped the belt because Ryder would make a good rival. Regal had his chance already, which made me sure he's not gonna be world champ.

Right on mate. As for Paul Burchill, maybe i'm biased towards guys who throw an impressive variety of suplexes, but he's great. I really miss the days of the the WWE having a resident suplex machine, like Angle and He Who Cannot Be Named. I'm really hoping Burchill gets a push, his match against Christain last week rocked and this weeks match against Yoshi sounds okay. SUPER F'N FISHERMANS BUSTER!!!!!! MARK OUT!!!!!! Sweet.

Burchill losing again, sigh.

Posted By: Honduras (Guest)  on September 23, 2009 at 03:46 AM

I disagree. Ryder looked pretty tired by the end of the match but it wasn't as bad as what you see in Batista matches and it didn't cause any miscues.

Whiney douche moment: why the hell do they continue to push that talentless turd Yoshi Tatsu? Trying to link him to Masawa when the guy has like 3 moves in his arsenal? The green of his attire simply matches how green he is in the ring. Catchy J-Pop theme and decent booking with regards to opposition aside, the guy's got future endeavoured written all over him.

Zach Ryder's the man. It's cool to see a guy most people thought would be jobbing to Jethro Holliday in the near future go out and elevate himself to such heights. Haven't heard his commentary on Superstars yet, but the guy's creating a buzz around himself and I look forward to finally seeing a young guy with natural charisma gracing the mic on Friday Nights in the future.

"Didn't see it, but any chance Dustin Brady and Brandon Young were PWG's Dustin & Brandon Cutler? "

not sure about Dustin, but Young was Brandon Groom. He lives in the Tulsa area, and had been working under a development deal a while back.

What? I myself don't know who Masawa is so I can't say anything on that matter, but yoshi is far from talentless. There is no doubt he shouldn't have been in WWE when he was signed, but he is making leaps and strides in the ring. Not to mention he has more charisma than almost half the faces altogether.

If your going to talk about talentless, talk about tyler reks.

Yoshi seems to be getting over strictly on his ring work, just like Kofi and Bourne before him. Fun, flashy wrestling is alive and well in WWE.

Confession: my first thought on seeing this week's scrawny jobbers was, "You're one guy and three masks short of a King of Trios team."

Koslov looks really crisp these days. He got called up and pushed before he was ready, but he could end up a very good worker. Zeke looks like he's going to injure somebody.

Ryder continues to impress. This week he showed he's mastering the fine art of kicking out at the last possible second.

Is it going to far to say that Christian may be the best worker in the world right now? Seriously... he unfailingly puts on 3-4 star matches with rookies on a C-show.

Really sick of squash matches on TV. It's just boring. Those two meatheads have been doing it over 4 months now.

It saddens me that Christian has probably hit his peak in the WWE, cause he's an incredible worker. He's doing an awesome job of elevating people right now and that main event was no exception.

Posted By: Banz (Guest)  on September 24, 2009 at 02:03 PM

that match was not 4 stars. It was barley 3 stars zack ryder didn't do shit and all christain did was jump off the top ropes over and over again.

Of course it proves something. If you were to call Flair washed up to his face and he tried anything, you could fuck him up.
If you called Regal washed up to his face and he T-Boned the shit out of you and then put you in the stretch, hes proved you wrong.
It also proves that the original poster has no conviction in his argument because there is no way he ever would say it to Regals face. Therefore if he is unwilling to stand behind it, he cant really believ it.
Next.
