411's WWE Smackdown Report 10.02.09
Posted by Joseph F. Martinez on 10.02.2009

Hey Yo! Welcome to 411mania's Friday Night Smackdown review. Tonight's Smackdown is being billed as the Decade of Smackdown Celebration so it should be a hot show. Lots of positive talk about the show is on the internet so we'll see how good it was.

> A video of the greatest Smackdown moments is shown. Lots of good stuff with everyone from Hulk Hogan to Stone Cold to Kurt Angle.

> Smackdown opening video. It's all shiny and new. Not sure if it's permanent but looks really nice. The show is live (sort of) from Boston.

> Jim Ross and Todd Grisham welcome us to the Decade of Smackdown Celebration from inside the ring. Grisham lets us know we're in Boston and says every WWE Superstar is in attendance. We're shown video from a backstage party. Heels partying with faces. What a world we live in!

> Batista's music plays and he's out for the first match of the evening. Grisham and Ross talk about Batista which leads us to a Smackdown moment. Its moment #64 from the Smackdown DVD. It's from the December 16, 2005 Smackdown where Batista and Rey Mysterio captured the WWE Tag Titles from MnM. Kane is Big Dave's opponent.

>>>MATCH ONE<<<
Batista versus Kane

The two grapple with Batista sending Kane into the corner. The referee (Charles Robinson) separates the two but Kane gets in a slap on Batista. Kane sends Batista into a corner but before he can get any offense in, Batista switches spots with him and gives him three shots to the head. He whips Kane but Kane replies with a large elbow. The Big Red Machine tries to follow that up with an elbow drop but Batista is out of the way. Batista stomps on Kane's face and then clotheslines him down. A cover gets one.

Both men are up and Batista gets Kane in a headlock. Kane gets out of this by slamming Batista down with a back body drop. Kane stomps on Batista's face, picks him up and takes him into the corner. Kane starts some corner offense as the fans chant Batista's name. Kane whips Batista into the opposite corner and boots him in the chest. A double-armed DDT from Kane gets a two count.

Kane works over the arm he DDT'd with a wristlock while Grisham reminds us it's the surgically repaired one. Batista gets some leverage and pushes Kane out of the ring Grisham sends us to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Batista is locked in an arm bar. We get footage of what happened during the break which was highlighted by a Kane big boot that sent the Animal out of the ring. Back in real time, Batista works his way to his feet and whips Kane into the ropes. Tista sets up for a backdrop but Kane surprises him with a kick to the jaw. A couple of blows is followed by Kane whipping Batista into the ropes. Batista avoids a punch and we see a double Big Boot that takes both men down.

Both men get up before Charles Robinson can count to 4 and Batista strikes first. He whips Kane into the ropes and follows that up with an elbow. A shoulderblock by Batista brings Kane to the ground. Kane gets up but Batista runs him into the corner. The Animal whips Kane into the opposite corner and rushes Kane again. Batista tries to whip Kane but Kane reverses him into the turnbuckle. A sidewalk slam brings Batista down and Kane gets a two count.

Kane goes up top and comes down with a big clothesline to Batista. Kane signals for the Chokeslam but Batista hits a Spinebuster before anything can happen. The pinfall only got a two count. After the pin, Batista got Kane into Batista Bomb position. Unfortunately for him, Kane rushes him into the corner. This doesn't faze Batista who responds with a huge clothesline. The announcers question if Batista can Powerbomb Kane while Batista climbs the turnbuckle. He flies off but is caught by Kane with a choke. Kane tries to hit a chokeslam but Batista counters it with a punch. Batista tries to rush Kane but is sent to the corner. Kane works over Batista with some corner punches but Batista turns that into a Batista Bomb. Robinson counts the three count and Batista wins the match. BATISTA DEFEATED KANE VIA BATISTA BOMB

> After some highlights of the match, we get a graphic for the Unified Tag Team Championship match at Hell in a Cell.

> We're backstage at the Smackdown Party. Teddy Long shakes hands with some Divas and Chavo. A Brooklyn Brawler sighting. Hornswoggle slaps Maria's behind and Michael Cole shouts "VINTAGE HORNSWOGGLE." Michael Cole talks Teddy Long into a drink (he chooses Diet Pepsi) and up comes Finlay. Finlay changes the order to four Irish Whiskies and Michael Cole shouts "VINTAGE FINLAY." The three go up on stage and Finlay gives a toast to a Decade of Smackdown.

Enter CM Punk, who stops Teddy Long from drinking. This causes Michael Cole to shout "VINTAGE PUNK!" Punk announces a Prohibition on the Smackdown locker room much to the chagrin of the Superstars in attendance.

We hear a familiar voice shout "Excuse me," and Vickie Guerrero arrives on scene. They talk about Hell's Gate's reinstatement and out comes a new Superstar. Vickie lets us know that he's her boyfriend and his name is Eric. Eric Escobar. Apparently Vince McMahon signed him to the show and Vickie Guerrero is his manager.

The Undertaker's gong strikes and a man dressed like the Undertaker addresses Teddy. It turns out to be Santino who is under the impression that it's a costume party. Teddy takes the shot of alcohol and we transition into a graphic for "The biggest 8 man tag match in Smackdown history," and a graphic for an Eddie Guerrero celebration.

> DID YOU KNOW: WWE offers all U.S. military personnel free tickets to all its live events in the U.S.

> Grisham welcomes us back to a shot of the city of Boston. Shortly after, we're taken back to the Smackdown Party. Michael Cole and Finlay are at a table and eating shrimp. This prompts Cole to shout "Vintage Shrimp." He also throws in an "Oh My." He makes a joke about Hornswoggle being short which causes the former Little Bastard to kick Cole in the shin.

Hornswoggle travels to the other side of the room where MVP, Mark Henry and one of the Bella Twins are preventing Zack Ryder from entering the VIP Lounge. Ryder tries to pay his way in and Henry says he'll think about it.

Matt Hardy and Kelly Kelly enter and bring a bunch of Divas with them into the VIP Lounge. Charlie Haas and Sgt. Slaughter are also with them. MVP says they have room for one more and its The Iron Sheik! Sadly for Zack Ryder, there is no room. Sheik says "HO HO HO YOU KNOW IT JABRONI" which gets laughs from all sans Ryder.

> We're back with Jim Ross and Todd Grisham. They segue us into a video tribute for Eddie Guerrero. A great package that included stuff from his Championship victory over Brock Lesnar, the Raw tribute show after his death and some early Eddie Guerrero footage featuring his WCW days and earlier.

> Hey, The Rock has a special message and it's later on in the program! Grisham and Ross let us know that The All American American is on commentary with them. John Morrison enters the ring and Grisham talks about the Morrison-Ziggler match which happens on Sunday. Ross sounds like he really wants to see the match which is great. Kofi Kingston is Morrison's partner. Jack Swagger slams his headset to the ground and it appears his done with commentary although he's still sitting next to Ross and Grisham. Dolph Ziggler and The Miz are the opponents.

>>>MATCH TWO<<<
John Morrison and Kofi Kingston versus Dolph Ziggler and The Miz

The Miz and John Morrison start the match off which is the first in-ring interaction between the two, I believe. They trash talk for a few seconds and then The Miz kicks Morrison. He follows that up with some blows to a downed Morrison. Miz whips Morrison into the ropes and follows that up by attempting a punch. Morrison slides under the Miz to avoid the punch and knocks him down with a dropkick. Morrison sends Miz out of the ring and we get an in-match commercial.

We're back with Dolph Ziggler in command of Kofi Kingston. Ziggler tries to whip Kofi but Kofi reverses that. He throws Ziggler down to the mat and pins him. After a two count, Kofi gives Ziggler some punches. He tries to whip Ziggler but Ziggler reverses that. Kingston avoids a rebound by holding on to the ropes. Jack Swagger gets up and Kofi points at him. This allows Dolph Ziggler to hit Kofi with a sneak attack. Ziggler pins but only gets a one. He then tags in the Miz who starts beating the downed Kofi. Miz takes Kofi into the corner and works him over with some punches. He taunts John Morrison which gets the refs attention. Ziggler grabs the hair of Kofi and Miz attacks with a clothesline. The Miz goes upstairs and nails Kofi Kingston with a double axe hammer. The Miz pins Kofi but only gets two.

The Miz follows that up with a chinlock to Kofi. John Morrison and the fans clap some momentum into Kingston but before Kingston can tag, the Miz slams Kofi's face in his knee. Miz positions Kingston into a catapulting position while Dolph Ziggler tags himself in. They try a double team maneuver but Kingston hits Ziggler in the face. Kofi struggles to get to a tag and Ziggler prevents it. Ziggler drags Kofi to the heel side and hits an elbow drop. A cover gets two.

Dolph Ziggler gets Kofi Kingston into a modified chinlock. Kingston throws some blows to the stomach but Ziggler just slams his head to the mat. Ziggler gets Kofi up and whips him into the corner. He tags in The Miz who taunts Morrison again. He charges at Kofi but Kingston moves at the last second. Both individuals tag in their tag partners. John Morrison knocks Ziggler down with a series of clotheslines and then a nice leg lariat. A standing shooting star press gets a two count from the ref.

Morrison launches Ziggler into the corner and tries to hit a springboard kick. Miz gets in the way but Kofi eliminates him from the picture. Morrison attempts the Springboard kick again but Ziggler knocks Morrison off the ropes. Dolph Ziggler gets John Morrison in the Zig Zag and pins him for the victory. DOLPH ZIGGLER AND THE MIZ DEFEATED KOFI KINGSTON AND THE MIZ VIA THE ZIG ZAG (ZIGGLER PINNED MORRISON).

> We're back at the Smackdown Party. ECW's Yoshi Tatsu and Kung Fu Naki are doing karaoke. They're singing Shawn Michaels' theme song until Jillian Hall interrupts them. Suddenly, the camera pans to a verbal exchange between Sgt. Slaughter and the Iron Sheik. They're debating whether the USA or Iran is better (although not very eloquently). Sheik tries to argue but is choking on something. In comes the Hurricane. He saves Sheik with the Heimlich Maneuver and whatever Sheik was choking on is launched into the table with Finlay, Cole and Hornswoggle.

Cole shouts "BOOMER SOONER," as the stuff lands in the table. He then eats whatever it was. Cole is hammered. The Big Show and Chris Jericho approach the table. Jericho tries to get the room quiet but it doesn't happen until Show shouts. Jericho says him and The Big Show are the real Smackdown Legends and demands respect from the locker room. Michael Cole then vomits on Chris Jericho's shoes. Teddy Atlas does his Teddy Atlas laugh and Joey Styles yells "Oh My God!"

> We get a graphic for The Rock's special message.

> Grisham pimps WWE.com and we get more shots of the city of Boston. Justin Roberts then introduces us to The Rock and we're taken to The Rock's home.

> The Rock starts off by saying "Apparently Dwayne Johnson has returned to Friday Nights." He says it wasn't right and starts again by saying The People's Champion is back. More "re-shoots" follow which include The Rock bashing Dolph Ziggler and getting some coffee. He then gets to his usual bit which is great.

The Rock talks about Smackdown's beginning and talks about his moves. He even sings his old "Smackdown Hotel" song. Some of the fans in attendance still remember that and they sing along. Johnson talks more about Smackdown and starts talking about CM Punk. He says Punk sits when he uses the toilet and we should call him BM Punk. The Rock transitions that into talking about The Undertaker. He says he has beaten the Undertaker's ass a ton of times and then backs off in fear of the Deadman. He asks for an edit but apparently some stagehand argues with him. Rocky brings him on camera and asks if he's ever been Tombstoned. He makes fun of the guy and includes his "It doesn't matter" line. He puts over the Hell in a Cell match and says there will be a new World Champion this Sunday.

After that, he says no matter what, the show will always belong to him. He even teases us with a possible guest host stint on Raw in the future. He ends it with "IF YA SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN'." He even throws in the People's Eyebrow for good measure. Good stuff. I'd definitely recommend you find it somehow if you missed tonight's show.

> Justin Roberts lets us know that the next match is a Lumber Jill match for the WWE Women's Championship. All of the Divas come out and the announcers let us know that they're smart, sexy and powerful.

>>>MATCH THREE<<<
Women‘s Title Match
Melina versus Michelle McCool ©

The two lock up, McCool takes Melina down early and gets a pinfall. After the two count, she gives Melina an uppercut and a low kick. McCool delivers some more punches and whips Melina towards the ropes. Melina responds with an elbow and tries to send McCool out with her feet. It's unsuccessful. McCool responds by throwing a punch but Melina avoids it. Melina tries a low strike but McCool hits a baseball slide that sends her out to the faces.

McCool leaves the ring to fetch Melina. After sending Melina back into the ring, McCool gets back on offense. A couple of kicks to the head is followed up with another uppercut. Michelle McCool twists the arm of Melina and tries to whip Melina to the corner. The challenger counters it and elbows McCool. Melina lands some kicks and punches and gives McCool a one-person flapjack. She pins McCool but only gets a two count.

Melina tries to pick the champion up but McCool knees her. McCool whips Melina towards the ropes and positions herself to flip the challenger. Melina avoids this by kicking Michelle McCool in the shoulder. She tries to follow up the attack but Jillian Hall grabs her foot. Melina jumps out of the ring and all of the divas begin brawling.

McCool grabs Melina back into the ring and the two continue their fight. McCool sends Melina to the corner but a Melina boot prevents any further damage. Melina climbs the turnbuckle but Beth Phoenix brings her down. McCool gets Melina into Faithbreaker position and hits it for the win. MICHELLE MCCOOL DEFEATED MELINA VIA FAITHBREAKER

> Grisham lets us know that the Undertaker has a special message for CM Punk and we get a pre-taped promo from the Deadman.

> The Undertaker says he'll reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship and will knock CM Punk off of his pedestal. He says Punk will crave the pills and stuff that he despises because he'll need them. Taker welcomes Punk to Hell in a Cell and an Undertaker gong ends the little promo.

> DID YOU KNOW: More males (under 55) watched Smackdown last Friday than every show on ABC, Fox, NBC and CBS.

> We're back to the Smackdown Party. All of the wrestlers are dancing in the back. Drew McIntyre gets on the mic and says he has something important to announce. He says he wants to make a toast to the future World Champion of Smackdown, Drew McIntyre. R-Truth interrupts and the two start brawling. All of the partying Superstars have to break up the fight.

> It must be main event time because Degeneration X is making their way to the ring. Ross and Grisham discuss the DX-Legacy match scheduled for Sunday's PPV. John Cena is the second member of the team to enter the arena. We get a video package for Smackdown Moment #100: John Cena introducing the new WWE Championship (the spinner belt). The Undertaker is the final member from the team to enter the scene. Smackdown Moment #32 is now showing. It's Vickie Guerrero banishing the Undertaker from the WWE and then getting Tombstoned.

> After a commercial, we get a graphic for next Monday's Raw Guest Host, Ben Roethlisberger. He better hope he beats the Chargers this weekend. After the heels make their entrances, we get the start.

>>>MATCH FOUR<<<
John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker versus Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk

John Cena and Cody Rhodes start the match off. Cena twists the arm of Rhodes and takes him to the corner. The refs makes Cena break the hold and Cody tries to land a punch but Cena avoids. Cena follows that with a punch and sends Rhodes back into the corner. He whips Rhodes in to the opposite turnbuckle and bulldogs Rhodes. He covers and gets a win. Cena tags in Triple H and holds Rhodes down for a Triple H punch. Cody Rhodes tags in Ted Dibiase and Triple H stares him down. The two grapple with each other until Dibiase gets H into the corner. Dibiase lands some blows but Triple H quickly reverses and lands some shots of his own. The Game tries to whip Dibiase to the opposite corner but Dibiase counters that. HHH quickly fires back with a clotheslines. He twists the arm of Dibiase and whips him back into the corner. Dibiase tries a clothesline of his own but The Game ducks and nails a Neckbreaker in the process. Triple H pins Dibiase but it only gets a two count.

Triple H wrenches the arm of Dibiase after the count and slams the head of Dibiase onto HBK's boot. Shawn Michaels is then tagged in. HHH holds down Dibiase and Michaels slaps his chest. Michaels tries to get Dibiase in the corner but Dibiase counters. Ted Dibiase slams HBK's head against the turnbuckle and follows it up with a flurry of punches. He sends Michaels to the corner but can't do anything because of a Michaels boot. He twists the arm of Dibiase and teases a tag to Triple H. He then teases a tag with the Undertaker but before that can happen, Dibiase knees Michaels. Teddy whips Michaels to the corner but Taker tags himself in. The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels stare each other down until Taker nails Dibiase with a punch. The Undertaker and HBK stare down with one another again as Ross sends us to a commercial break.

Smackdown returns with the Undertaker pinning Cody Rhodes. The fall gets a two count. Shortly after, Triple H is tagged back in. H lifts Cody up for a stalling vertical suplex. The suplex lasts for around 11 seconds before H slams Cody to the mat. He does a crotch chop and drops his knees to Rhodes' face. He twists the arm of Rhodes and tags in HBK. Michaels enters with a knife edge chop. Michaels tries some offense but Rhodes lands a ton of punches to the head of Shawn Michaels. Rhodes tags Dibiase back into the match and Dibiase lands a ton of offense on the Heartbreak Kid.

Dibiase tags Orton in and the two work over HBK in the corner. Cody Rhodes gets a cheap shot in while the ref has his back turned. Randy Orton tags in CM Punk (who gets booed more than any of the heels) and Punk stomps on Michaels in the corner. The ref takes his attention off of Michaels and the heels beat him down. Punk lifts HBK up and slams him down with a back suplex. He pins Michaels but it only gets a two. Punk locks the right arm of HBK and tags in Randy Orton. Punk holds Michaels down and lets Orton stomp on him. CM Punk is forced out and Orton continues stomping on HBK. After the stomps, Orton locks in a headlock. Michaels reaches out to tag his partners and gets out of the headlock with a back suplex. Michaels tries a tag but Orton tags in Rhodes. Rhodes holds down the feet of HBK but Michaels escapes with an enziguri. John Cena is tagged in.

Cena nails Orton with a couple of shoulder blocks and then his power bomb. After he hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle, he sets up Rhodes for the Attitude Adjustment. Dibiase charges in so Cena tosses Rhodes to the corner. He tosses Dibiase to the same corner and attempts a double Attitude Adjustment. Rhodes and Dibiase both escape and they hit the High and Low on John Cena. With everyone down, the match heads to a commercial break.

Smackdown returns with CM Punk kicking John Cena in the back of the head. Punk gets a two count from a cover and tags in Randy Orton. Punk holds Cena down for Orton and Orton punches Cena. Orton punches Cena a ton of times in the heart area and drags him to the center of the ring. Orton slams his knee to the face of John Cena and follows it up with a pinfall. It only gets two. Randy Orton gets some kicks in on the WWE Champion. Orton is slow to make his next move which allows John Cena to position Orton for the Attitude Adjustment. Orton escapes and drives Cena down with a DDT. He turns Cena over for a pinfall and gets a two count.

Orton tags in Dibiase and lets Teddy work Cena over with some kicks. Dibiase pins Cena and gets a two count. He follows that up with a chinlock. Cena tries to power out and is successful. He tries a shoulderblock but Dibiase brings him down with a clothesline. Dibiase punches the downed WWE Champion but goes one too many times. Cena slams Dibiase to the ground. Cena tags in Triple H and Dibiase tags in CM Punk.

Triple H dominates CM Punk with a flurry of punches. Punk avoids a punch but HHH replies with a high knee to the face. Punk whips Triple H but another knee and clothesline bring the World Heavyweight Champion down. After a Spinebuster, Triple H tags in the undertaker. CM Punk dashes to his corner and tags an unexpected Orton. Taker throws Orton in to the ring and brings him down with a flurry of blows. Taker whips Orton into the corner and rushes him. He then hits Snake Eyes on Orton. Dibiase tries to get involved but Taker brings him down with a punch. Randy Orton hits his backbreaker on the Undertaker but Taker counters a pin with Hell's Gate. Cody Rhodes interrupts the submission maneuver which brings Triple H in to eliminate Rhodes. Dibiase tries to hit Dream Street on HHH but Shawn Michaels comes in with Sweet Chin Music. Triple H takes Dibiase out of the equation with the Pedigree. CM Punk takes HBK out with a leg lariat out of nowhere. John Cena gives CM Punk an Attitude Adjustment over the ring on top of Legacy. All four of the faces trap Randy Orton in the center of the ring. The Undertaker hits Randy Orton with the Tombstone and gets the pinfall victory for the faces.

> After the match, The Undertaker stares down CM Punk. The music switches from the Undertaker's theme to John Cena's theme as the faces all celebrate. Confetti rains all over the arena and the music switches to that of Degeneration X. The show ends with the whole arena in Undertaker Purple and the Deadman posing in the center of the ring.

>>>QUICK RESULTS<<<

• Batista def. Kane via pinfall
• Dolph Ziggler and The Miz def. John Morrison and Kofi Kingston via pinfall
• Michelle McCool def. Melina via pinfall
• The Undertaker, Degeneration X and John Cena def. CM Punk, Legacy and Randy Orton via pinfall

So that happened. There weren‘t as many matches as one would expect but the matches that did happen were lengthy. The Rock's appearance on the program had to be the highlight of the evening and I would recommend you check that up on Youtube if you missed it. I wouldn't go as far as Meltzer did and claim it was one of the best promos of the year but it was still great. The show needed more JBL. The Hell in a Cell PPV is just a few days away so next week's Smackdown will probably be the fallout edition. Enjoy your week.

I agree... the show did need some JBL goodness. That end of the show was pretty awkward with the music and all that going on. Orton looked hilarious when he got trapped by the faces. Nice to see the matches get decent amount of time.

Gotta say though, R Truth... interrupts a party and starts a fight? For shame!

My new hope for Raw is Michael Cole being drunk and commentating for two hours, at least it would be entertaining.

Out of the four guys on the heel side you book the guy to lose who has not won since 'beating' Mark Henry and losing to Cena and Batista in two nights, he also is the top heel on the 'A' Show.... Why? Least it was an entertaining match.

Wish Undertaker would've joined DX and Cena and did the DX pose. That would've been awesome.

Good show. Seeing Rock again was great.

I wonder why Mickie James wasn't at the show? She wasn't at ringside for the Divas match. It's too bad because Michelle and Alicia Fox reuniting to face Melina and Mickie would have been fun.

Only Jericho's face could actually make me laugh out loud at a vomit gag (no pun intended). Michael Cole getting drunk and abusing his vintage catch phrase was pretty funny too (although it will make the phrase less funny in the future because we know he's aware of his over use of the term).

It was cool to get a teaser of the eventual Miz/Morrison feud. They handled it pretty well by not letting them get too much one on one time in so it will mean more when they are one day booked against each other. That showed an unusual amount of restraint for WWE booking.

I was a little annoyed that J.R and Todd no-sold the Undertaker/Shawn Michaels stare down. It seemed like a nice attempt at continuity but the commentators didn't really acknowledge that it was happening let alone why. I give them credit for handling Miz/Morrison well, but they really dropped the ball on this one.

Saw this air in the UK a few hours ago. Rock's promo was fucking awesome, for a pre-recorded interview he still managed to work the crowd and look more natural on the mic then all of the current top stars. Calling it "the best wrestling promo this year" like Meltzer did seems a bit over the top, it was still just one pre-recorded segment, but it was still great nonetheless.

I'm sure all of the butthurt crybabies on the internet like Brad B will still be talking shit on the Brahma Bull though. Do you still think he "hates wrestling"? The guy's father and grandfather were pro-wrestlers for fucks sake, he has forgotten more about wrestling than any of you will ever know!

The reality is The Rock had the foresight to leave on top before he picked up a serious injury (and it would have happened, all wrestlers end up shelfed eventually - just look at Edge right now, he is 35 years old and his career could be over!) and move into Hollywood films - you know, that dream job where you make millions and millions of dollars to bang hot women, star in hit films and NOT end up crippled and on the scrapheap by the time you're 40!

The bitter truth is that Rock couldn't have made it big in films like he has done without distancing himself from wrestling and establishing himself in the general public's eyes as "Dwayne Johnson, movie star" rather than "The Rock, pretend fighter". That's just the way it is! Don't hate the man because he has made a success of himself, you should appreciate him for being the only pro-wrestler in history to truly go out on TOP and become a legitimate mainstream star!

Just wait for Rocky to guest host RAW, that shit should fucking rock... Jericho/Rock interacting again after all these years is gonna be gold. I just hope McMahon doesn't turn it into some lame shit where he has Rock buddy up to Cena and HHH or some gay shit. The audience wants to see Cena/Rock but unfortunately the WWE can't risk having their golden boy be made to look like a chump by a top star from 10 years ago. C'est la vie.

Saw this week's show on You tube and yes this was an excellent Smackdown. Only disappointment is now Vickie is back. So I guess hogging the spotlight just to get a paycheck is more important than staying at home with your children. What creative sees in this useless sow I will never know. Pathetic.

Regardless of what you think, she gets more heat than 95% of the heels on the roster right now and she is a pretty good character. I have no problem with them bringing her back.

don't listen to the spazoids on here - if you want to not put up star ratings then keep it that way. i find that the people that look for star ratings normally gloss over the the written part. why do people want ratings anyway?! it's a report, not a review.

(great report by the way. good structure and balance).

Saw this week's show on You tube and yes this was an excellent Smackdown. Only disappointment is now Vickie is back. So I guess hogging the spotlight just to get a paycheck is more important than staying at home with your children. What creative sees in this useless sow I will never know. Pathetic.
____________________________

Well she garners more heat with one phrase than 90% of the current roster. And she's now in a role as a manager where she can actually use that heat to elevate someone. And she's actually pretty decent on the mic. Not a bad choice if you ask me.

And hogging the spotlight for a paycheck? She's managing a midcarder. Talk about hogging the spotlight! But more importantly...she's a widow who is taking care of three (I believe) children. She has the unenviable task of not only raising these kids alone, but financially supporting them as well. I don't think any of us, especially some anonymous commenter, is in a position to judge what she does for income. Judge her for her mic skills. Judge her for the quality of her work. But to question how the woman earns a paycheck is low even for our beloved IWC standards. Your logic is the only thing that is pathetic.

Why they promote the shit out of that stupid green midget I won't even bother saying the name because he is cancer to smackdown and unecessary to be there

The Undertaker promo was awesome. I hope he never leaves the WWE.

Missed the show but watched The Rock segment on Youtube. Damn that gave me shivers and brought a smile to my face! The guy can still cut an awesome promo.

If you didn't already hate Michael Cole and you don't hate him now for the hacky, unfunny, forced performance on this anniversary show, just go get castrated now. There's no hope for you. Period.

I only saw Rock's promo, on WWE.com. His timing was off, but that can be forgiven as he hasn't really done this since 2004. Even a talker as good as him will be off with that much time in between promo practice.

That being said, the way people have creamed themselves over his appearance proves how low the standards have become. Rock was about 50% of what he normally is, and yet that was enough to earn "best promo of the year" from Meltzer and Ross. It probaly WAS the best promo of the year, probaly even the last few years. And that is why I couldn't be bothered to watch the rest of the show, because everybody else must have looked like amateurs.

Two fourty year olds saying "suck it", Cena sounding constipated, Jericho boring everybody, Orton....talking.....like.....this, Batista using every lame tough guy line in the book, and Undertaker cutting the same promo he's been doing since 1994. Yep, real stiff competition. Rock could have just read from a phone book and it would still be better than those losers.

I just want to say that I have not marked out in YEARS like I did when we got the first shot of The Rock, laughing at the script in front of him, making fun of it, and tossing that piece of shit. There is nothing else I can say about it, other than if you're a fan of pro wrestling you HAVE to see this promo somehow. I actually prefer Danielson/London doing the infamous "Hybrid Dolphin" PWG promo as the best of the year, but I don't actually expect anyone to agree with me on that (although I'm sure lots of people do).

The Eddie Guerrero tribute was great too, best video package I've seen since "Cult of Personality" for Austin's HOF induction. Great stuff. And the whole backstage bit with CM Punk and culminating with Teddy (FINALLY) taking the shot of whiskey was great.

Great, must-see show, but light on the wrestling, which is not how Smackdown usually is.

Another thing I forgot...Vickie Guerrero making that ridiculous face behind Teddy's back just about made me lose my shit. Hilarious, and you know what, fuck anyone who disagrees. I'm glad she's back.

If I were RD Reynolds and Blade Braxton, I'd be seriously considering legal action against WWE. This is not the first time they've ripped the guys off, but is IS the most blatant. RD was FAR too kind in his comments on the show.

While the Rock's promo was ok, I was a bit let down. With all the hype it got, I guess I was expecting it to even top the classic Billy Gunn and God promo, but it was more of a mishmash of old catch phrases and Hollywood Rock smiling.

He even put over the Undertaker! Old Rock rarely put over anyone in his promos. I was hoping he'd bring back the classic 33 pound head promo he'd used to do for Taker. I think Rock has beaten Taker a few more times than once, too.

Michelle McCool was once again the MVP of this episode of SmackDown. She has really come into her own this year. She could be the next Trish Stratus in my eyes. She has the skills, the beautiful look, good attitude to the business, and is improving a lot on the mic.

Posted By: Guest#2107 (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 06:03 AM

Entertaining show, the Eddie tribute was a nice touch & "The great one" was awesome but the crowd reaction was kinda weak, fuckin kids would rather cheer a wannabe like Cena.

Posted By: Guest#6928 (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 06:08 AM

The Rock promo was the promo of the year because no one in the history of the business can pull off precorded promo, predict how the crowd will react, and still have them in the palm of his hand. There is no one like that. Name your favorite mic worker...they just can't pull that off.

EVER, and the dick eating fuckwads managed to not have the fucking channel working. In case any body's wondering IT'S STILL DOWN!!! Not that I give a shit about anything else on that shit-box channel, but that's not the point. The point is, I MISSED SMACKDOWN!, DAMMIT!!!! I need to find this show somewhere. I must find and watch this show. Help me guys. I know it's online somewhere, I need to find it. The whole show. Yes, even the Kane/Batista match. All of it. I must find this show. The only bad thing about the Rock's bit was he once again he shows what a promo should be like and after a long absense he once again steals the show. There have been better wrestlers I am sure but on the microphone the Rock is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there will ever be.

Eddy tribute made me sad... not because of Eddie's death, but because we'll never get that kind of thing for Benoit (and they'll never have the hug from WM in those things)

How did Haas get in the VIP Lounge?

And really, can they not send a cameraman to live with the Rock, have him cut a promo every couple weeks or something? Even if it's just the Rock ripping people a new one and promoting the Dwayne's new movie, I don't care.

First off Thumbs up from me. Great SmackDown. Would have loved a battle royal featuring Superstars of the past 10 years. Mean Street Posse, Headbangers, Steve Blackman, Sylvain Grenier (Quebec Ambassador Gimmick), Al Snow, The Gymini, Stuff like that. Rock Ruled. Vicki sucks she always has she has the so called X-Pac heat. Were people dont hate the character they just hate her. I really dont like when people say fake history. Yes the outcomes are predetermined. The stuff happened though. Just like history of any shows on TV you watch. If you use that Ric Flairs title reigns are nothing and same with Undertakers streak oh and then who would the Rock be cause he is part of the history but then again that is all fake, so? Stop calling it fake. Also I miss JBL he and Saturn plus X-Pac could have been in the battle royal.

Glad to see speaking the truth and actually backing up what I say has gotten me a fanbase in the 411 comments. It's akin to the "winning gold at the Special Olympics" analogy, but it's recognition nonetheless.

As far as Rock's promo, I had no issues with it. His constant smiling is a bit douchey and I was happy he said "ass" liberally in spite of the WWE PG FOR KIDZ nonsense.

Only thing that annoyed me was Michael Cole. Bad enough I have to deal with his awful commentary every Monday night. But I watch my first Smackdown in 7 years and have to witness his awful acting and lack of humor in half the segments?

Worse, I know there are tools that think it was hilarious that he was overusing his "vintage" nonsense and puking on Jericho. Creative comedy at its finest featuring WWE's brightest personality.

Brad B, you do NOT have a "fanbase", you do NOT "speak the truth", and you do NOT "back up what you say"... you are a pedantic, sad, pathetic little douche and (for once) the whole 411 comment section knows it and agrees it.

Your opinions are absolutely worthless (you don't like michael cole? wow. how original.) and you constantly have some lame bullshit quest to prove (remember when you were obsessed with how Lillian Garcia announces Beth Pheonix's name? How sad are you?)

Of course what you constantly fail to realise is that nobody actually agrees or disagrees with you, we just don't care about you or your douchebag opinions. at all. ever.

I'll bet you're one of the hypocrites who "miss Eddie so much" and then turn around and complain about Vickie and Chavo's current roles in WWE... proving that you, and the other heartless evil fucks like you, never gave a shit about Eddie Guerrero as a human being.

Oooh, big words! That'll show me! And way to take my "fanbase" comments as anything other than a snide remark.

I have backed up everything I ever said. I don't care that people think I'm a douche - that happens a lot when people can't respond to the facts someone presents.

I'm not trying to be original by hating Michael Cole. I started that bandwagon during his first appearance in 1997. I just never thought I'd still have to deal with him in late 2009!!! It's the people who try to defend him as anything more than the worst fucking announcer to ever hold a job for 12 years that disgust me.

And I'm sorry: "Beth Phoenix(AWKWARD TRANSITION)...The Glamazon" is retarded. You wouldn't say "Rock The" or "Steve Austin Stone Cold". Whether or not she was forced to say it, she sounded ridiculous each and every week (in addition to her other blunders).

Anything else? When you can actually dispute anything I say with facts, I'm more than willing to listen and make you look stupid again. Good day!
