411's ROH on HDNet Report 10.29.09: King vs. Kingston (10.26.09)
Posted by Aaron Hubbard on 10.29.2009
Eddie Kingston has a match. A REAL one. I'm not kidding!
Last week we see the piledriver from last week that injured Jerry LynnMike Hogewood and Dave Prazak welcome us to the show. We start out with Austin Aries and Kenny King coming out. To the ring. Aries talks about the "main event of epic proportions" between him and Bryan Danielson. It was pretty great. Some fans start the "Shut the fuck up!" chant and Aries replies by saying they need to wash their mouth out with soap. He proved that last week he proved he was far superior to "The Best in the World". Aries says that doesn't make him the "new" Best in the World, it just reaffirms that he is "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived". Speaking of greatness, Kenny King did something so great that Aries has to applaud him. He took a man who said he was un-retire-able and retired him.
Kenny cuts a cocky promo that doesn't really have a lot of flow to it. The jist is that he put Jerry out to pasture and he's the greatest thing ever, besides Aries. He says everyone looks at him and wants to be the King. Tyler Black comes out and says the entire locker-room does look at him…in disgust. There's a lot of guys that want to kick his ass, so Black steals from Aries' playbook and has a lottery of his own…and draws "The Last of a Dying Breed" Eddie Kingston. Wait, you mean Kingston is going to be in a real match? An honest to goodness actual MATCH? Holy crap!
We have BIG NEWS: The new executive producer for ROH on HDNet is Jim Cornette!
Sonjay Dutt vs. Delirious vs. Joey Ryan w/Prince Nana vs. Necro Butcher
Ryan goes after Necro right off the bat since he's feuding with the Embassy. He then runs outside the ring. The bell goes off and Delirious loses his mind. Sonjay goes after him and we get a split screen showing the action. Ryan hits a superkick on Butcher. Hey, remember when that move actually meant something? Nana trips up Delirious from the outside and Ryan holds him, but Sonjay misses a forearm and takes out Joey. BAM! Lariat from Delirious. He heads up top and hits a hilo to both guys. Delirious throws Sonjay in the ring but Ryan pulls him down to drop his head off the apron. Necro pulls the mat out from under him and trips him. That's a new one. Dutt leans outside and PUNCH by Butcher. Sonjay is dead. Apparently not, as Ryan holds Necro on the apron and Dutt hits a sunset flip powerbomb on the floor.
Back inside, Delirious hits Sonjay with an inverted atomic drop and hits some chops, but Ryan attacks him from behind. I mean, um…Anyway, Ryan mounts him. This isn't getting any better. Punches from Joey and he feels himself up.
FRATZ!
Sonjay slams Delirious' head on the apron and the heels double team Delirious…
DOUBLE FRATZ! Maybe there is more truth to the Village Voice's bizarre award then ROH fans would to admit.
Ryan hits a dropkick and Sonjay almost wins the match while Joey is feeling himself up. Sonjay gets Ryan to hit a forearm in the corner on Delirious and schoolboys Joey for two. He tries to make nice but Joey schoolboys him for two. They go back to teaming up on Delirious but Butcher is back and hits a double noggin' knocker. He throws punches at both guys and blocks Ryan's superkick (okay, now it makes sense) and hits the Tiger Driver, but Sonjay breaks up the pin. Dutt hits the seesaw kick out of the corner, Butcher lands in the 619 position and Sonjay hits a leapfrog legdrop to snap his throat off the ropes. He follows with a missile dropkick on Ryan but eats knees off of a splash to Necro. He goes to the corner and Delirious comes back in and nails him with the Panic Attack. Butcher takes out Ryan with a hilo off the apron, and Delirious hits Shadows Over Hell on Dutt and gets the win. Winner: Delirious (via Shadows Over Hell on Sonjay Dutt) **
Skull Krusher Rasche Brown cuts an insane promo where he says he hates everything and there's nothing better than hurting a man and watching him squeal. I'm going to have nightmares about that voice.
Kyle Durdan is in the back with Eddie Kingston. Five bucks says he mentions Chris Hero. Any takers? Eddie says he's in the main event of ROH on HDNet, and he should be amped up, but he's not. He still wants Chris Hero. Hey look, I was right! He says he will take out his hatred for Hero out on him. As if that wasn't bad enough, King disrespected a man Eddie looked up too, and he's gonna have to pay for that as well.
Bryan Danielson is on his final countdown tour, and in two weeks, he will team up with Roderick Strong to take on The American Wolves. We ask Bryan for what his top five moments in ROH are, and number 5 is his "Testing the Limit" match with Austin Aries, where they wrestled for over seventy minutes. Odds of him ever going that long in WWE?
They wanted to know D-Lo Brown's thoughts on the Jerry Lynn situations. He acts like he's going to cut a promo, but instead plugs his Twitter account. Okay, that's pretty funny.
Hogewood tops it, because he plugs his Twitter Account: Twitter.com/slaptheporpoise. God bless you Hog.
D-Lo Brown vs. Brent Albright
Albright offers a handshake and D-Lo takes it, and then goes for a punch but Albright ducks and gets a backslide for two. A small package gets another two, and a schoolboy gets one. Brown has had enough and heads to the back, but Brent gets him and slams him into the barricades. Albright does some posing which is way more charisma than he's ever shown. D-Lo responds in kind and then hits a suplex on the floor. Back inside, they start trading big punches until Brown goes to the eyes. D-Lo hits a slam and a kneedrop for two. D-Lo goes for his sliding lariat but Albright gets an awesome counter into a crucifix for two, but Brown gets a leaping knee strike. He throws Brent outside but misses a splash that hits the barricade. EXPLODER ON THE FLOOR!
Albright goes inside and hits a tope suicida. D-Lo hits a snapmare on the floor and then goes up top for a clothesline to the floor. They tease a double count-out but get back inside. Brown takes off his elbow pad and goes for a clothesline, but Brent counters with a uranage. Albright fires up and hits a series of punches and a clothesline. Brent hits a snap powerslam for two. He whips D-Lo to the corner but Brown gets a knee-up, and then hits a moonsault off the second rope. Dang. He only gets two, but that was impressive. They throw punches and Albright connects with a DDT for two more. He heads up top and hits a crossbody, but Brown rolls through, and only gets two. Huge lariat by Brown gets the 360° Flip-Sell from Brent. D-Lo hits a huge powerbomb, 1…2…Brent kicks out and grabs the Crowbar! Brown tries to maneuver out of it but Albright gets that sucker back on, and D-Lo taps! Great finish. Winner: Brent Albright (via Crowbar) ***
Next week, Colt Cabana faces Nigel McGuinness. Colt says he always watches the show, but know he's a main eventer. "With great responsibility comes great actions…a wise man once said that." He promises to make a stance, a stand, a stain, a little bit of everything. Spider-Man out. Colt is so weird.
Kenny King vs. Eddie Kingston
They slap hands, which I guess is Kenny's attempt to try to get a little on Eddie's good side. Good luck with that. Kenny leapfrogs over Eddie and bails outside. Back inside, Kingston pushes King to the ropes and gives him a clean break and claps for him. He dodges a takedown attempt and gets Eddie more frustrated. Eddie pushes him to the corner again and looks to give a clean break, but Kenny takes a cheap shot and then bails again. Eddie follows him out and starts throwing King into the barricades and punching him.
Back inside, Eddie hits a release northern lights suplex and slaps Kenny. Eddie's hard chops follow. King gets one chop in, so Eddie hits him even harder and hits a fisherman's suplex for two. He keeps beating down on Kenny until Kenny pulls the ropes down to drop Kingston to the floor. King goes out and beats on Eddie, slamming the back of his head into the barricade repeatedly. Back inside, he hits a float over suplex and hits a series of mounted elbows. He only gets a one count and applies a chinlock. Eddie escapes and hits the ropes but gets caught with a spinebuster that gets two for King. Kenny slaps Eddie and that fires Kingston up, but King hits a back elbow and a clothesline to knock him back down. Eddie connects with a Sambo Suplex to get the momentum back.
Kingston fires off with chops and an exploder suplex. He follows up with a clothesline for two. He wants the spinning backfist but Kenny pulls the referee in front. Eddie doesn't hit the referee but King hits his fireman's carry into a uranage, called the Royal Flush, and I'm very grateful it has a name. It only gets two. Eddie blocks a kick, but Kenny spins out and hits the capoiera kick and the Macho Throat Snap. Kenny goes for a springboard but Kingston catches him and hits an exploder suplex, and follow with a sliding forearm for two. BACKDROP DRIVER, but here comes Chris Hero. He distracts Eddie long enough for King to hit the double knees, and he follows up with the Coronation for the win. Winner: Kenny King (via Coronation) **3/4
Remember, next week is Cabana vs. McGuinness and two weeks from now is Danielson & Strong vs. The Wolves.

Not a big Joey Ryan fan, are ya?
Speaking of which, screw this show, I'm getting drunk and watching Threemendous II tomorrow night. I've heard "Show of the Year" rumblings. CAN'T WAIT.
Did you ever get that Best of Danielson DVD? I picked it up at their St. Louis show a few weeks back. The time just flies by when you're watching it. The first match with Spanky is pretty awesome, I think most of the rest I had seen before. Except the Gibson title match, which is a perfect jumping-off point for a WWE fan to get into his stuff.

To MP:
He's okay. I just realized that virtually everything I was typing sounded bad, and given Ryan's character, I just had to run with it. Plus, it gave me a chance to use "FRATZ!"

I've been watching ROH on HDNet and was very psyched that they got the deal but to tell the truth it's been getting a bit disappointing.
The matches in the main event have been solid generally and there has been some gems, but the quality overall has not been a patch on the events of the past and the angles have not been brilliantly executed with their booking.
It sounds weird to say, but I've been enjoying Christian's run of main events and how ECW is booked to elevate talent in an hour more than ROH on HDNet recently.
Hopefully they get back on form, because they have the talent, but at the moment PWG is doing a far better job with their events, the Dragon Gate ppv blew anything they've done this year out the water, and they are behind the quality of show I'm getting elsewhere and like most people I've only got so much cash to spread and time to follow.
It's really hard to build an audience, rather than keep one, and Cornette knows his shit, so hopefully this "blip" with the adjustment to tv tapings, how to present it,organise it and book it will be over soon.
