Last time out, Dragon Gate put on the potential PPV of the year. Is this better?
Hey yo. Lansdell's back and ready for some more ridiculously fast and awesome Dragon Gate USA action!
Dragon Kid vs Masato Yoshino
This is of course a rematch from the last PPV. Both men exchange some quick leg sweeps and pins and then face off. Dragon Kid gets an arm drag and a head scissors, sending Yoshino to the floor. Kid fakes out a dive to the floor and poses. He catches Yoshino on the way back into the ring then drops a double knee. Dropkick in the corner, then a running basement dropkick in the corner by Kid. Yoshino catches him with a back elbow to gain control, then gets a backbreaker to slow Kid down. LOUD overhand slap by Yoshino, followed by a louder one. Single-leg crab applied by Yoshino, he stands up and cinches in deep, into a half-Liontamer. Kid makes the ropes causing the break. Snap suplex gets 2 for Yoshino. He whips Kid in and drops his head, getting a kick for his troubles. Yoshino charges and Kid moves, then connects with the Déjà Vu headscissors! Yoshino to the floor, Kid slignshots up and over and into a rana on the foor! Ypshino goes into the barricade! Kid throws him inside then connects with a springboard missile dropkick. DIAMOND DUST by Dragon Kid gets 2! Yoshino avoids Kid's charge and gets a clothesline takedown for 2! Suplex COUNTERED into a Stunner by Dragon Kid, tilt-a-whirl into an Octopus hold by Kid! Yoshino staggers to the ropes, Kid tries another springboard but Yoshino catches him and hits a face-first powerbomb. Yoshino goes up top, Kid cataches him with a strike and tries to rana him off the top but Yoshino holds the top rope! STUPIDLY HIGH MISSILE DROPKICK by Yoshino! 1...2...no! Kid is on the apron, Yoshino tries to bring him back in but Kid blocks it and snaps his neck over the top! ARABIAN PRESS by Kid! 1...2...no! Kid puts Yoshino on the top rope and goes up with him but Yoshino pushes him off to the apron. Kid fights back and goes up top again...Super Rana! 1...2...2.853! Dragon Rana is blocked, Yoshino charges into a drop toehold. 619 position! Instead Kid slignshots to the apron and kicks Yoshino on the way, then hits the Ultra Rana! 1...2...2.907! Kid goes up top looking for the Dragon Rana! YOSHINO MOVES! Kid rolls through, hits the ropes and LIGHTNING SPIRAL!!! Yoshino with the cover! 1...2...2.907!! Toshino hits the Torrelino and tries a second Lightning Spiral, Kid reverses and gets a Crucifix Bomb! 1...2...3!
Winner: Dragon Kid via pinfall (Crucifix Bomb) Rating: ***¼Not as good as their first match, but a nice energetic opener.
After Yoshino refused to shake last time, Kid looks for the handshake this time...and is again spurned.
We get a recap of Quackenbush geting punked out from the last PPV, and of Akuma turning his back on CHIKARA.
YAMATO and Gran Akuma vs QuackSaw
Akuma and YAMATO jump the faces before the bell. They waylay Jigsaw and then double team Quack in the ring with a tandem backbreaker. Jigsaw comes in with forearms for each man before a pair of kicks from Akuma and a spear by YAMATO end the rally. YAMATO pounds on Jigsaw and tags in Akuma. Suplex gets 2. Kick to the spine by Akuma, then a tag back to YAMATO. He goes to work on Jigsaw's ankle, then grapevines the leg. Akuma tags back in, whips Jigsaw in then gets a high knee and a roll-through into a round kick. 2 count for Akuma. Jigsaw reverses a whip but Akuma regains control with a well-placed kick and tags YAMATO. Scoop slam gets 2. STF applied, and Jigsaw already lasted longer than Randy Orton ever did in this hold. He's able to escape and catch YAMATO unawwares with a quick schoolboy for 2 before YAMATO regains his composure and chops Jigsaw rather hard. Jigsaw tries to fight back but YAMATO applies a sleeper. Hmmm...modified figure four is the best way I can describe that hold, but it looks like it hurts like hell. Quack comes in and stomps on YAMATO to break the hold, and YAMATO tags Akuma. They try a double whip but Jigsaw's leg is too badly damaged. They try the whip again and this time it works. Akuma charges into an elbow, YAMATO charges into a boot. Jigsaw goes to the second, jumps on the back of YAMATO and uses him like a Goomba to...blow a spot. He was SUPPOSED to elevate into a rana on Akuma but couldn't get the height. The commentators cover it nicely by explaining that his knee was hurt too badly. YAMATO charges but Jigsaw lifts him over the top and tags in Quack! Chops for Akuma, a whip and a corner clothesline! Bulldog to the knee! Leaping clothesline by Quack! A whip is reversed but Quack blocks the kick and hits the BTS! 1...2...YAMATO breaks it up. Forearms by YAMATO but Quack blocks a whip by dropping to the mat. Akuma blindsides him and they both whip Quack in, he hits a flying back elbow on Akuma as YAMATO ducks. YAMATO kicks him and whips him in, Quack vaults over the top and catches YAMATO with a headbutt and tries to go up top. YAMATO catches him and slams him off the top. JIGSAW out of nowhere with a superkick to YAMATO! 1...2...Akuma breaks it up just in time! Akuma reverses a whip, turns Jigsaw inside out with a double pumphandle pickup into tombstone position, then DROPS HIM OVER BOTH KNEES in a modified gutbuster1 That was SWEET. 1...2...Quack breaks it! Quack tries a lariat but YAMATO blocks and kicks Quack's elbow HARD. Brainbuster! 1...2...no! Crossface applied by YAMATO, Quack makes it to the ropes. Whip in, Quack avoids the charge and gets a Thesz press for two. German suplex attempt by Quack is blocked, YAMATO rolls into a cover for 2 before applying the ankle lock! Quack fights towards the ropes so YAMATO chains into a crossface! Jigsaw saves the match then hits the Michinoku Driver! Quack goes up top...SENTON! 1...2...AKUMA with a sick kick to the back of the head! Quack gets an armdrag but Akuma locks up the arms and hits a rolling neckbreaker. He positions Quack on the top rope and looks for the top rope exploder but Jigsaw kicks him to prevent it! Jigsaw tries to go up behind Akuma but is elbowed down. MOONSAULT by Akuma misses! Jigsaw puts Akuma on his shoulders and QUACK off the top with double knees to the head! YAMATO breaks up the pin and locks in a sleeper on Jigsaw! SLEEPERPLEX! Good sweet Mother of Mercy. Quack has Akuma up in a fireman's carry but YAMATO kicks him and tries a spear...Quack moves, YAMATO takes out Akuma! Quack low-bridges YAMATO! K-DRILLER TO AKUMA! Also known as the Quackendriver II, and that is all my friends!
Winners: QuackSaw via pinfall (Quackenbush on Akuma, QDII) Rating: *** A little too chaotic, a little spotty and Jigsaw's injury hurt the match big time. Kudos to him for fighting through it but it still didn't make this as awesome as you'd expect.
Post-match, YAMATO locks in a rear naked choke and takes Quack down before Hallowicked makes the save.
Bryan Danielson vs Naruki Doi
Danielson is introduced as "a man who needs no introduction", the lights go out and he is in the ring with a hand raised. Nice. This should be epic.
They work a series of arm reversals to start. Doi goes to the leg and takes Danielson down, but Danielson manage to get an arm drag of his own. More reversals ending in a Danielson headscissor lock. They work more headlock-to-headscissor reversals and face off. Chops by Doi exchanged with overhand slaps by Doi, Danielson gets a knee strike but Doi ducks the round kick to the head and then kicks out the knee of Danielson. Doi kicks at the knee and locks in a grapevine. Danielson makes the ropesbut Doi goes right back to the knee. In the corner Doi wraps the leg around the rope, then hits the ropes and kicks the knee out. He tries it again but Danielson moves and goes for the arm of Doi. Danielson takes the shoulder of Doi to the turnbuckles a couple of times, then bends his arms in all sorts of unnatural ways. Top wristlock by Danielson brings Doi down to the mat, where Danielson stomps on the elbow. 2 count for Danielson. Again Danielson twists Doi's arm in obscene ways, before cracking it over his own shoulder repeatedly. Double underhook suplex into a cross-armbreaker by Danielson! Beautiful chain wrestling! Doi makes the ropes. Kicks to the arm by Danielson, he charges but Doi lifts him to the apron, then pulls Danielson's upper body through the ropes and wedges him there. Doi runs the ropes and hits an elbow, Danielson is caught in the ropes and can't go down! Again off the ropes, dropkick! That knocks Danielson loose and he slumps over the middle rope. Doi to the top, senton to the slumped Danielson! Doi suddenly remembers to sell the arm. Stun Gun bu Doi followed by a back suplex for 2. Doi's charge is avoided, a jawbreaker by Danielson is followed by a kick and a charging forearm in the corner. Danielson up top...missile dropkick! Another kick to the chest gets 2. Both men slugging it out mid-ring with forearms. Danielson wins the exchange and comes off the ropes into a back elbow for 2 by Doi. Fireman's carry by Doi, Danielson slides out and gets an ankle lock! Doi makes the ropes. Both men are selling the effects of the match now. Doi catche Danielson coming in with a kick then gets a dragon screw and locks in the figure four. Danielson fights to the ropes and Doi breaks on the 4 count. A pair of leg trips by Doi, Danielson kicks him off both times, then they work the old rollup reversal spot. Danielson catches Doi with a boot and a high knee strike, he tries the dragon suplex but Doi drops down and gets a rollup for 2. Doi up and gets a go-behind, standing switch, again Danielson tries the dragon suplex and again Doi drops down but Danielson kicks him in the back. Crucifix gets 2, CATTLE MUTILATION! Doi makes the ropes. Both men to their feet and again they exchange forearms. Doi with a serties of open-hand slaps, he comes off the ropes into a STIFF roaring forearm by Danielson. Danielson goes to the ropes but Doi catches an elbow, BAKATARI SLIDING no! Ankle lock by Danielson, great block! Doi tries to make the ropes but Danielson reels him in and hits a German! 1...2...no! Back to the ankle lock, now with added grapevine action! Doi is able to make it to his feet and roll through the lock, CANNONBALL IN THE CORNER! Doi 5s! 1...2...no! Tiger suplex by Doi gets 2. Doi goes to the top, possibly for a moonsault, but Danielson is right up here with him so we'll never know. Doi knocks him down, so maybe we will know. Nope, Danielson is up again and is knocked down AGAIN! A third time Doi sets for something and AGAIN Danielson crotches him! Danielson is up this time, BACK SUPERPLEX!!! 1...2...no! Cattle Mutilation! Centre of the ring! Doi turns into the pressure but that just puts him in position for the MMA Elbows! Repeated elbow strikes by Danielson but the ref won't stop it! Danielson with the pin! 1...2...NO!!! Kicks by Danielson but Doi will not go down. Danielson is laying in the roundhouse kicks with venom and Doi keeps firing back with forearms. Roaring elbow by Danielson! Slaps to the face and now the running kick takes Doi down! Danielson goes to the top, Doi catches him! He wants Doi 5s from the top, but Danielson has the MMA elbow position locked in!! Doi shakes it off, SUPER DOI 5S! 1...2...2.936! BAKATARIIIII!!! 1...2...NO! MUSCULAR BOMB!!!!! 1...2...3!!!!!!!!!
Winner: Naruki Doi via pinfall (Muscular Bomb) Rating: ****3/4Fuck me. Match of the year. Selling, great spots but nothing too insane. Just good, solid wrestling.
CIMA vs THE Brian Kendrick
Awww, they let the little stoner boy keep his WWE jacket.
They exchange arm drags, CIMA tries a dropkick but Kendrick avoids it. CIMA turns his back on Kendrick and pays for it as he gets clubbed in the back of the head. Enziguiri by Kendrick! 1...2...no. Kendrick to the top, CIMA intercepts him and goes up for a superplex but Kendrick pushes him down. PALM STRIKE! Iconoclasm! CIMA to the top...splash gets knees!!! Inside cradle by Kendrick gets 2. Kendrick takes CIMA to the turnbuckles and then runs into a superkick! SCHWEIN! Up top he goes...FLYING DOUBLE KNEE DROP! 1...2...3? Winner: CIMA via pinfall (top rope double kneedrop) Rating: **Well that was disappointing. They crammed a ton into that but umm...fast finish much?
Davey Richards vs Shingo
Ummm...buzzcut for Shingo? But how will we fear the mullet? "Where's your mullet?" - Chicago. Shingo looks smaller, possibly due to lack of mullet.
Both men duck a stiff strike from the other before Davey gets a snap mare and a kick to the spine. Shingo pops right back up, chops from Shingo exchanged with leg kicks by Davey. Richards goes up to the chest and Shingo backs off as he realises that's a battle he won't win. Whip by Davey, he charges but Shingo lifts him to the apron. Shingo catches a kick from Davey and dragon screws the leg through the ropes! Davey goes to the floor and Shingo follows, whipping Davey to the barricade and following up with a couple of chops. Back inside Shingo goes to work on the leg with a stepover toehold. Leg grapevine applied now. Davey fights his way free so Shingo drops a fist on the knee. Davey tries to go to the floor but Shingo drags him back in and drops a knee to the inside of the leg. 1 count only. Shingo applies the achilles lock and Davey makes it to the ropes after some wrenching. Shingo wraps the leg arouns the ropes for a few seconds before elbowing Davey in the face. Scoop slam by Shingo and now we have a chop battle. Davey hits a couple of kicks to the chest, selling the bad leg. He charges but Shingo blocks and BACK SUPLEXES HIM OVER THE TOP! Ow. Shingo ties the leg of Davey in the barricade and hits a running knee strike into it. Shinbreaker by Shingo, he puts Davey on the apron and tries a shinbreaker off the apron but Davey blocks. Kicks by Davey and he drops the arm of Shingo over the edge of the apron! Davey whips Shingo to the rail, ties up the arm and returns the favour from earlier, kicking Shingo's arm in the railing. Back inside now and Richards hits a hammerlock slam. Whip and a clothesline by Davey, who is still limping. Arm wringer and a series of chops by Richards followed by a kick to the chest and an armlock submission. Shingo makes the ropes so Davey hits a snap mare and locks in a cloverleaf-Tequila sunrise combo! Man that looks like it hurts, he has Shingo almost vertical. Running forearm in the corner by Davey, a round kick and a snap suplex. Davey goes up top and HITS the diving headbutt for 2. Davey goes for the cross armbreaker! Shingo blocks by clasping his hands but Davey manages to lock it in! Shingo makes it to the ropes immediately. Davey hits some kicks to the chest but Shingo is hulking up! He wants more! Davey obliges but Shingo is still shaking it off! ENZIGUIRI! Davey staggers him but GETS CAUGHT with a release German! They exchange shots and Shingo wins the exchange with some stinging jabs and a Mongolian chop. He charges Davey and eats a boot but shrugs it off and clotheslines him in the corner. Whip and a pop-up Death Valley Driver! Lariat is blocked with a boot, he tries it again and hurts his arm but he hits a chop and lariats him anyway! Shingo lifts Dvaey up and GETS NAILED out of nowhere with a back suplex! Shingo retreats to the floor and DAVEY!!! Open the Twin Gate Title: The Young Bucks vs Genki Horiguchi and Ryo Saito (C)
Dennis Rodman thinks Genki looks weird. Ryo Saito is sporting a huge mohawk, and he's the normal one.
Genki and Matt to start, they exchange some mat work and come to a standstill. Another mat exchange ends in a Matt front facelock, Genki escapes and they excahnge wristlocks ending in another stalemate. Tag to Saito and to Nick. Saito takes Nick down but it doesn't last as Nick hits a rana and a dropkick sending Saito to the floor. Genki in and eats a double hip toss and double basement dropkick. Matt covers and gets 1. Tag to Nick who comes in with a corkscrew slingshot plancha for 2. Gebki pulls the hair of Nick and drags him to the Real Hazard corner and tags in Saito. Snap mare and a big elbow to the face of Nick, Saito tries a suplex but Nick blocks and drives Saito to the corner where he tags in Matt. Matt gets an arm wringer and tags in Nick who comes off the top into the arm. Nick returns the favour and then Matt again tags Nick who hits a double stomp to the arm from the top. 2 count. Saito again drives Nick back to the corner and tags Horiguchi who goes to the eyes then locks in a seated abdominal stretch. Nick squirms his way free and goes to the red ponytail of Genki, then tags in Matt who comes off the top with a double stomp to the extended ponytail of Genki! That is the first time I have ever seen that. 1...2...no. Tag back to Nick, they hit the gutbuster/neckbreaker-backbreaker combo. Another tag back to Matt but Genki hits a HUGE low blow while the referees back is turned. Genki knocks Nick to the floor and goes out with him, then suplexes Nick onto a pile of chairs on the floor. Saito has Matt in the ring, Genki joins him and hits a kick, Ryo hits a jawjacker, Genki with a facecrusher and Saito finishes the sequence with a basement dropkick. Saito hangs Matt in the tree of woe and charges...then stops and spits in his face. Nick has made it back to the apron so Genki again knocks him to the floor. Saito twists the ponytail of Matt and Genki comes off the top with a shot to the ponytail. No, seriously. Achilles lock by Genki. Matt forces him to break the hold so Genki knocks Nick off the apron again before hitting a flying back elbow to Matt. Tag to Saito who comes off the top with a double stomp. Nick tries to come to his brother's aid which allows Saito to choke Matt out with a belt. Genki hits a basement dropkick while Matt is still being choked. Saito AGAIN sends Nick off the apron. Matt avoids a double team and hits a standing sliced bread on Genki after sending Saito to the floor. Nick tags in! He hits the springboard dropkick to Saito on the apron, elbows Genki to the floor and hits a gorgeous moonsault off the apron to the floor onto Genki! Springboard facebuster on Saito brings Nick back in, BIG top rope elbow by Matt! 1...2...no! Matt elevates Nick into a dropkick on Saito, then hits a baseball slide kick on him through the ropes. Nick comes FLYING over the top of Matt who is hanging over the ropes and out onto Saito. GENKI out of nowhere with a kick to Matt who is still in the ropes! Horiguchi has a whip reversed, but catches Matt charging in tries a tornado DDT. Matt pushes him off and hits a falcon arrow for 2. Nick comes in and they hit a powerbomb into the knees of Nick who is sitting on the top, followed be a slam from Matt and a senton from Nick. That gets 2 before Saito breaks it up. They whip Saito into Horiguchi and Nick tries a corner clothesline, Genki ducks it and elevates him into a German from Sato. Matt hits a superkick on Genki but Saito connects with a release German and sends Matt into the groin of his brother. Suplex by Genki on Matt gets 2, Saito is already coming off the top with a big splash for 2 more. Nick sends Genki to the floor and hits a running high knee in the corner before flying out to the floor into Genki! Matt comes off the top with a cutter on Saito! 1...2...no! Saito is whipped in but pulls the referee in front of a superkick!!! The Bucks are not too concerned as they connect with More Bang for your Buck on Saito! Genki is back in...MIST!!!! He sends Nick to the floor and Saito hits the straitjacket faceplant! 1...2...3!
Winners: Real Hazard via pinfall (Saito on Matt, Double Cross) Rating: ***Everything I said for the QuackSaw match goes for this one, except of course the part about Jigsaw's injury. Good yes, great no. Just felt like I was watching something on fast forward and that they were hoping the sheer speed would paper over the cracks.
Awesome show, only one real disappointment in terms of match quality, but the fact that this could have been EVEN BETTER rnakles with me somewhat.
Oddly enough, this show was pure Dragon Gate style. Oudou ("King's Road" to the vapid) is an influence, but I wouldn't call anything in the Takagi-Richards match oudou. Watch All Japan from 1990-2000. That thar be oudou a-breachin'. Once again, the American internet rubes will be doing backflips over this genuinely good show while not understanding that this is pretty much what every Dragon Gate show in Japan looks like. But, as well all know, with bizarro world internet wrestling fan math, [$6 Japanese show from one of the various online dealers] > [$20 American pay per view], so its just WAY too expensive. Plus, those free youtube videos just blow up one's bankroll. Sadly, it is absolutely impossible to follow Japanese wrestling. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have two thousand Japanese wrestling shows to organise.

Dammit, I missed another DGUSA show? I don't know when these damn things air. Is there any way to see them now?
Posted By: ARGH (Guest) on November 07, 2009 at 01:30 PM
Im happy that WWE get Brian Danielson if he can put up matches like these for the new company.

what's the difference between King's Road (old AJPW/NOAH style) and Strong Style (NJPW style)? aren't they practically the same?
Posted By: Shio (Guest) on November 07, 2009 at 08:52 PM
Just a jaw-droppingly amazing show. It's a shame that most mainstream wrestling fans will never see it, not because it's 'better' but because it's such a different style.

The only reason I'm not watching these PPV's is because DirecTV doesn't carry them.
I'll definitely get these shows on DVD though.
Posted By: Vince (Guest) on November 07, 2009 at 11:44 PM
The CIMA/Kendrick match was clipped. The full match will be on the DVD. It was said to be underwhelming.
Such a great company with such stupid shipping costs. How it costs $8 to ship ONE DVD or a FAN, I have no clue.

"The only reason I'm not watching these PPV's is because DirecTV doesn't carry them."
Same here. I will pirate it, but that could take days.
They get my money eventually, so I have no problem admitting this.

One thing:
"HOLY SHIT he flew between the ropes with a tope con hilo but WAY overshot it and only cuaght Shingo a glancing blow on the shoulder before flying into the crowd!!! "
He's done that in every big match this year.
SURVIVOR SERIES ANTHOLOGY VOL 1 FTW

"what's the difference between King's Road (old AJPW/NOAH style) and Strong Style (NJPW style)? aren't they practically the same?"
Strong-style is based on making it look more like a legitimate fight with submissions and strikes.
King's Road is based more on holds, psychology, and storytelling.

In my opinion, at its crux, New Japan's Strong Style presents wrestling in the form of a legit sport, focusing on strikes, grappling/judo, submission wrestling and "fighting spirit", while "King's Road", at its finest, presents wrestling in a way that's very similar to the 1970's era of NWA wrestling, focusing on building wrestling holds and counterholds, along with strikes, into a general story arc, which builds upon the arcs of all other matches.
It's a bit confusing to deduce.

Not big difference.
Just like Defensive or Offencive.
King's Road is Conservative.

They call this wrestling? Should be called angry gymnastics choreography or something along those lines. Wrestling this was not.
Posted By: wrestlingfan (Guest) on November 09, 2009 at 06:52 PM
I watched this show, and it it was decent, but the 5 dollar production value shone through. Most of the action was too inconsequential, spot after spot, as is par for the course with this style. To say that there are 2 "Match of the Years!" on this show is overstating things by a landslide.
The esoteric title of the pay per view probably as some deep spiritual meaning, or Gabe might have pulled it out of his ass, but it doesn't matter - Japanese = better!
Just because ol' Gabe is catering to the internet doesn't mean I am going to eat what he's serving.
"King's Road" or "oudou"? What? Man, quasi-Japanese wrestling fans even sound like nerds in comparison to the rest of us nerds. Otaku!!

Davey Richards vs Shingo = Match of the fucking year hands down
Posted By: Ramirez (Guest) on November 10, 2009 at 09:15 PM
Troof, I understand your accusation of Dragon Gate style being nothing but spot after spot, because a lot of the time, they are. But the two major matches on this show had EXCELLENT stories with good limbwork that was sold throughout. Not to mention the thought put into the reversals of the major moves.
Honestly, if Shingo/Richards and Doi/Danielson aren't MOTYC, I'd love for you to name five matches better that happened this year.
Posted By: Guest (Guest) on November 11, 2009 at 09:38 PM
What I love most about DragonGate USA is that ever PPV has at least one match of the year candidate. I am always glad to give this great company $20 anytime they want to give me 2 hours of wrestling, with VERY good matches being the minimum. No Great Khali matches, No Divas Matches, No Kevin Nash matches, just excellent, excellent wrestling. Those Young Bucks have a great future ahead of them. They remind me of when the Hardys broke out in WWE, and these guys don't need TLCs to do it.

This was the best darn wrestling ppv I've seen in a long time! AWESOME WRESTLING, and a consistently hot, HOT crowd from opener to main event. That's something you hardly see at wrestling ppvs anymore.
Posted By: nomark (Guest) on November 15, 2009 at 04:19 PM
The Young Bucks haven't got any future beyond the indies. Regardless of their entertaining style, looks mean something to the companies that matter; these two would be lucky to get a no-intro jobber match on Superstars.

sweet jesus I love DGUSA - richards vs shingo was soooooo fn sick
I missed me some BxB Hulk though....next ppv
