Posted by Joseph F. Martinez on 11.13.2009
Chris Jericho and the Undertaker fight for the first time ever, Batista and Rey make their Survivor Series match official, John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler go at it again and Drew McIntyre continues his path of terror. All of this and more inside this week’s Smackdown Report.
> Welcome to 411's WWE Smackdown Report. Another thanks goes out to Chris Lansdell for covering the show last Friday. Let's get to this week's installment.
>Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are the hosts. Tonight's program is semi-live from the United Kingdom.
> Grisham and Striker discuss the first time ever matchup between the Undertaker and Chris Jericho, Batista-Rey Mysterio contract signing, and an Intercontinental Title match between Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison. Looks like a stacked show.
>CM Punk is out much to the chagrin of the folks in attendance. Striker reminds us of the matchup between Scott Armstrong and CM Punk. Grisham then recalls last week's happenings in the R-Truth-CM Punk match where Punk berated Armstrong for counting slowly. THANK YOU! Sadly, it cost him the match.
> Punk gets on the microphone. He is disgusted at how much the United Kingdom has fallen. He goes into Drug Free mode and shows his distaste for the lifestyle of the British. Punk says we need someone as righteous as himself to teach us the proper way to live. Punk says he's perfect in every way and is better than everyone in attendance.
> R-Truth is CM Punk's opponent again. He asks everybody what's up. Grisham and Striker discuss the Survivor Series match between Team Orton (Orton, Legacy, Punk, Regal) and Team Kofi (Kingston, MVP, Mark Henry, R-Truth and Christian).
> R-Truth decides to address CM Punk in the ring. Punk said he filed a complaint against Scott Armstrong and R-Truth wants to file a complaint that Punk is impersonating a man. Truth says he isn't out to put down Punk (despite just doing so) and says he just wants to shut Punk up. R-Truth calls CM Punk a Punk and ends with one more "what' up."
>>>MATCH ONE<<<
R-Truth versus CM Punk
CM Punk shoves R-Truth. Truth slaps Punk and gets him into the corner. A couple of punches is followed up by Truth smashing Punk's head on a turnbuckle. Truth tries to whip Punk in the corner but Punk reverses it. Punk tries to get Truth in GTS position but Truth holds on to the ropes. Quick kick from R-Truth is followed up with a pinfall that gets a one. Punk kicks R-Truth and sends him against the ropes. Punk goes after him but Truth launches him out of the ring and into a commercial break.
Back on the program, R-Truth has CM Punk's arm locked. Punk gets to his feet and takes Truth to the corner. Punk gets Truth with a couple of shoulder blocks and sends Truth to the opposite corner. Punk rushes Truth but Truth responds with an uppercut. R-Truth climbs the turnbuckle but CM Punk kicks him down. Punk begins working on the leg of R-Truth. Punk does what looks like an Indian Death Lock and elbows Truth's leg. R-Truth works his way to his feet but Punk kicks him back down to the ground. Truth gets up again but Punk takes his legs out with a chop block. Pinfall gets a two count.
Punk lifts R-Truth to his feet but Truth stuns Punk with a jawbreaker. Truth tries to launch himself off the ropes but Punk responds with a drop toe-hold. Punk maneuvers from that into an Indian Death Lock. Punk grabs the head of Truth and bridges himself. Truth gets out of the hold and CM Punk goes for his springboard clothesline. Truth is up and takes Punk out with a double leg kick before the springboard can connect. Punk nears Truth but Truth punches him. Punk tries to attack the legs of Truth but Truth blocks that with his knees. Truth takes Punk down with a clothesline and pins him for a one count.
Back body drop from Truth to Punk. Truth tries another pin and gets a two count this time. Truth tries a scissors kick but Punk moves out of the way and kicks the back of Truth's legs. Punk signals for the Go To Sleep and gets Truth into the position. Truth squirms out of it and tries a sunset flip. Punk stops this by sitting on Truth in pinning position. Punk holds onto the ropes for extra leverage and wins the match.
> After match highlights, Grisham and Striker talk about the Batista-Mysterio conflict. Striker transitions this into a discussion regarding Mysterio's book.
> Backstage, we see Mickie James leaving her locker room. Layla El stops Mickie in the hallway and tells James to leave. James tells Layla to beat it and someone runs into Mickie's locker room. Layla lets Mickie know that she gave her fair warning and both women leave.
> Mickie James gets an entrance, Natalya doesn't.
>>>MATCH TWO<<<
Mickie James versus Natalya Neidhart.
The ladies circle the ring for a few seconds. Mickie James tries to grapple with Natalya but Neidhart goes under and takes James down from behind. Natalya taunts Mickie for a second and then wrenches the arm of Mickie. Mickie flips out of it and strikes Natalya with a few punches. Mickie sends Natalya towards the ropes but Natalya reverses. Mickie James ducks a punch from Natalya and takes her down with a snapmare takeover. Natalya leaves the ring and Mickie follows. Neidhart sends Mickie into the steel steps and then inside the ring. Pinfall from Nattie to Mickie gets a two count.
Natalya brings Mickie up by her hair and slams her down. Natalya then puts Mickie James in a surfboard stretch. Natalya's shoulders are down so the ref begins a count, prompting Neidhart to relinquish the hold. Natalya punches Mickie James and then attacks James in the corner. Natalya turns her attention to the ref for a second which allows Mickie to gain some momentum. After some Mickie punches, Natalya sends James into the corner again. Neidhart tries a shoulder attack but Mickie sends Natalya down with an elbow. Hurricanrana from Mickie to Natalya. That's followed up with several James body attacks. Natalya sends Mickie out of the ring. Natalya tries to take advantage of Mickie James but James attacks from the outside. Mickie James (who the announcers are calling MJ at this point) jumps off the turnbuckle onto Natalya. Mickie punches a downed Natalya and out come Michelle McCool and Layla El with Mickie James' clothes. Mickie sends her attention to the ladies outside which allows Nattie to clothesline Mickie James down. Natalya follows that up with the Sharpshooter for the win.
> Michelle McCool and Layla El continue the destruction of Mickie James' clothing after the match.
> Wrestlemania ticket sale promo.
> Striker talks about the scheduled Ziggler-Morrison match.
> Raw promo. Roddy Piper is guest hosting and there's a huge triple threat tag team match between Degeneration X, Jeri-Show and Taker/Cena. I really hope Cena costs his team the match and they start some sort of program for Wrestlemania. That'd be entertaining.
> We're back with Josh Matthews. He instructs us to welcome John Morrison. Morrison says there is pressure on him to retain but he can handle the pressure, unlike his opponent.
>Drew McIntyre time. Striker says this is the time the night turns "cold and gray" and we see a highlights of Drew McIntyre destroying Finlay.
> McIntyre is involved in a Survivor Series 5-on-5 matchup. He'll tag with Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger and The Miz to take on the team of Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin, Finlay and John Morrison. Looks like another decent match.
> McIntyre decides to speak to the fans. Drew McIntyre says he didn't let Finlay into the ring two weeks ago because Finlay isn't worthy of being in the same ring. McIntyre says since Finlay wants to fight, they should just fight. Which is apparently happening after a commercial break.
> Finlay comes out with his shillelagh and a bunch of cheers from the crowd.
>>>MATCH THREE<<<
Finlay versus Drew McIntyre
They grapple. Finlay goes behind and elbows McIntyre in the face. Finlay clotheslines McIntyre to the ground and follows that up with a couple of uppercuts. Finlay takes McIntyre into the corner and takes his aggression out on McIntyre's chest. Finlay tries to whip McIntyre but McIntyre reverses this. Finlay hits McIntyre with a kick but McIntyre immediately boots him out of the ring. Outside, McIntyre clotheslines Finlay down. He sends him back into the ring and kicks him down. Drew McIntyre stomps on Finlay's arm and then locks it. Finlay gets to his feet and punches his way out of McIntyre's grasp. He continues until McIntyre falls out of the ring. Finlay beats up McIntyre outside and eventually takes him back in. McIntyre is ready for Finlay inside and launches a flurry of punches. The ref eventually gets him off. Finlay and McIntyre trade vicious blows and the ref calls for the bell…?
> Finlay gets his shillelagh but McIntyre boots him in the face before Finlay can strike. McIntyre grabs the shillelagh and nails Finlay with it. McIntyre leaves the ring but not before posing for the fans.
> McIntyre decides Finlay didn't get beat up enough so he returns to the squared circle. McIntyre again grabs the shillelagh and nails Finlay in the stomach to add more pain.
> Grisham lets us know that the contract signing between Batista and Rey Mysterio is up next.
> Promo for the Undertaker focusing on his Survivor Series match against Jericho and the Big Show.
> DID YOU KNOW?: Despite the baseball playoffs and World Series, WWE.COM still delivered more page views than MLB.COM during the month of October. I always thought the World Series was a part of the baseball playoffs.
> Brief shot of the outside of the arena with Grisham talking about England.
> Matt Striker is in the ring and he's setting the table for the upcoming contract signing. Rey Mysterio is introduced first. Grisham talks about how Rey wouldn't have entered the four-way if he knew what it would do to the friendship with Batista. Speaking of which, Big Dave is out right after. We get highlights of the Mysterio Bragging Rights beat down.
> Batista tries to make small talk with Mysterio but Rey will have no part of it. He asks Batista for the contract and wants to sign it. Big Dave places his signature on the document and hands it over to Mysterio, who signs it himself. Batista grabs the mic and tells Mysterio that he has something else for Rey to sign. It's a hold harmless agreement. It says Batista can't be held legally responsible for what he does to Rey at Survivor Series. Mysterio reads it over and tells Batista the he refuses to sign it. Batista gets mad and calls Rey a coward. Batista says Rey has to sign it or he will embarrass Mysterio in front of the UK crowd. Rey stalls, grabs the pen and agrees to sign the agreement. Mysterio says that he isn't going to be embarrassed, Batista is. Mysterio flips the table over, causing Batista to fall over and leaves the ring. Batista shouts at Rey to return but Mysterio keeps on moving. In the ring, Batista wrecks the furniture.
> Grisham goes over the events that just transpired and we get sent to the Smack of the Night. It's Ziggler beating up John Morrison two weeks ago.
> Tony Chimel lets us know that the next match is for the Intercontinental Championship. Dolph Ziggler is out first and John Morrison follows shortly.
>>>MATCH FOUR<<<
John Morrison versus Dolph Ziggler
The two men stare each other down before they tease a grapple. Morrison tries to take Ziggler down from behind but Ziggler punches him off. Ziggler runs away from John Morrison and eventually takes him down with a punch to the face. Ziggler attacks the downed John Morrison until Morrison surprises him by rolling himself up. Dolph Ziggler chant as Morrison delivers a punch that takes Ziggler down. Morrison flapjacks Ziggler and kips himself up. An elbow from Morrison to Ziggler is followed up with a pin that gets a two count.
Ziggler goes into the corner and Morrison follows with a knee. Morrison climbs up the turnbuckle but Ziggler takes him down with a shot to the leg. Dropkick from Ziggler takes Morrison down completely. Ziggler moves Morrison to the center of the ring and gets a two count pinfall. Ziggler kicks Morrison and then takes the champ down with a gut buster. Pinfall gets two and the show goes to a commercial.
Back with Ziggler locking on a bear hug to Morrison. John Morrison punches his way out of the hold and then sends Ziggler to the corner. Morrison flies towards Ziggler with a leg lariat but Ziggler moves out of the way. Ziggler pins Morrison and gets a two count. Ziggler lifts Morrison up and brings him down with a snap mare takeover. Pinfall from Ziggler gets another two count.
Back to his feet, Morrison gets taken down with a Dolph Ziggler boot. Ziggler works over the downed Morrison with a ton of elbow drops. He taunts to the fans and misses an elbow drop. Ziggler immediately locks his legs around John Morrison. The Intercontinental Champion tries to elbow his way out but Ziggler keeps his control and body slams Morrison down. Pinfall gets two. Ziggler kicks Morrison in the head and talks some trash. Morrison slaps Ziggler and the two trade punches until Ziggler unsuccessfully tries a kick. Morrison catches the leg, and turns Ziggler around with a punch. Ziggler tries to back body drop Morrison but Morrison flips out and attacks with a flying forearm. Morrison whips Ziggler and takes him down with a leg lariat. Pinfall gets a two count.
Morrison lifts Ziggler up and motions for the Moonlight Drive but Ziggler gets out of it and takes the champ down with a face buster. Ziggler covers Morrison but it only gets a two count. Ziggler attacks the back of Morrison's head. Ziggler lifts Morrison up but Morrison breaks out of Ziggler's grasp. Morrison takes Ziggler down with the Pele kick and pins Morrison for a two count. John Morrison positions Dolph Ziggler for Starship Pain but Ziggler moves out of the way. Dolph Ziggler tries to pin Morrison with the ropes but the ref sees it. Ziggler argues with the ref which allows John Morrison to knock Ziggler out with a springboard dropkick. Morrison pins Ziggler but only gets a two count. Ziggler slams Morrison's head against the turnbuckle and climbs on to the top rope. Morrison joins him up stairs and the two trade blows to the head. Both men fall down at the same down and take an ugly spill on the outside. The referee begins to count both men out and neither show signs of life. The ref reaches ten and the match is ruled a double count-out.
> We see a replay of the nasty bump that ended the match. It sounded ugly. Morrison's head slammed against the barrier deal .
> Graphic for the Undertaker-Chris Jericho matchup later in the evening.
> Promo for the Triple Threat match between Shawn Michaels, HHH and John Cena.
> Matt Striker sends his thanks out to Art of Dying for providing the theme song for Survivor Series.
>Beth Phoenix's music plays and it must be time for another squash match. Lisa Taylor, who is the British Commonwealth Champion according to Matt Striker, is Beth's opponent.
>>>MATCH FIVE<<<
Lisa Taylor versus Beth Phoenix
Taylor tries to roll up Beth real quick-like but Phoenix avoids it and beats the head of Lisa Taylor. Beth Phoenix slaps Taylor's head and picks her up for a slam against the turnbuckle. Phoenix wraps Taylor in tree of woe position and takes her down with a neck breaker type move. Beth Phoenix obliterates Lisa Taylor with the Glam Slam to end the match.
> Matt Striker and Todd Grisham go over the destruction of Lisa Taylor. Beth Phoenix stares at the destruction she caused and leaves the ring.
> You too can be a WWE Champion! All you have to do is go to WWEShop.com and buy stuff according to this WWEShop.com advertisement.
> Next week on Smackdown will be a 2 out or 3 Falls match for the Intercontinental Championship. It should be a fantastic bout that will probably end their feud.
> Chris Jericho is out for his match. Matt Striker calls him the Mental Mastermind. Todd Grisham chimes in and again plugs the World Heavyweight Triple Threat that takes place at Survivor Series. The Undertaker's entrance (for those of you that seem to track its time) clocked in at a little over 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
>>>MATCH FIVE<<<
Undertaker versus Chris Jericho
The bell rings and Jericho dodges a punch from the Undertaker. Jericho attacks Taker in the corner until the ref gets him to back off. Jericho turns his attention to the Undertaker in time to see the Deadman throw Jericho into the corner. The Undertaker beats up on Jericho in the corner and glares at the ref when he asks him to stop. Taker takes Jericho into the corner and smashes his head on the turnbuckle. Jericho gets whipped by the Undertaker but kicks him on the rebound. Taker shrugs the kick off and sends Jericho to the outside. Undertaker joins Y2J outside and slams Jericho's head on the mat. Taker takes Jericho and lines him up for his apron leg drop. It's successful. Taker gets back in the ring with Jericho and lifts him up. Taker works over Jericho's arm and takes Jericho down with a shoulder block. A quick leg drop is followed up by with a pin. Taker gets up and still has hold of Jericho's arm. Taker attacks Jericho low with a kick and takes Jericho up for Old School. Jericho counters and drags the Undertaker down to the mat.
After the commercial break, we come back to see Jericho on top of the Undertaker delivering a ton of punches. The ref breaks up the attack and Jericho gets back to the Undertaker in the corner. The referee again breaks up Jericho's offense in the corner. This again allows Taker to gain some momentum with an elbow to Jericho's face. Taker sends Jericho into the corner and rushes him. Jericho replies with a kick. Y2J climbs the ropes and takes the Undertaker down with a dropkick. Jericho pins Taker and gets a two count. Jericho immediately wraps his arms around the neck and arm of the Undertaker. Taker makes his way to his feet but Jericho kicks Taker before he can do anything. Jericho sends Taker out of the ring with a kick and taunts the fans.
Jericho launches himself at the Undertaker with a forearm and sends the Deadman into the barrier that separates the crowd and the outside.Y2J sends Taker back into the ring and chokes him with the ropes. Jericho climbs the back of the Undertaker and again chokes him with the ropes and his body weight. After the hold is broken, Taker stuns Jericho with an elbow. He follows that up with a punch but Jericho immediately replies with one of his own. Jericho attacks Taker in the corner and then follows him into another corner to do more of the same. Jericho kicks Taker down to his backside. Chris Jericho applies his boot to the face of the Deadman and approaches him. Taker wraps his hand around Jericho's neck but Jericho kicks Taker before anything can happen. Jericho follows that up with a couple of punches before the Undertaker throws one of his own. The two trade strikes before the Deadman head butts Jericho for some room. Taker punches Jericho and then whips him into the corner. Taker strikes with a body blow and then tries to hit Snake Eyes. Jericho counters with a dropkick and pins the Undertaker for a two count.
With the Undertaker down, Jericho attacks his head. The ref gets Jericho off but Jericho immediately goes back for another strike. Taker doesn't let it happen by getting Jericho by the throat. Taker tries a chokeslam but Jericho elbows out of it. Taker brings Jericho down with a big boot but quickly falls to his knees. Taker tries a boot to a cornered Jericho but Y2J moves out of the way. Jericho takes advantaged of the cornered Deadman and begins his offense. Jericho climbs Taker but this allows the Undertaker to get Y2J in position for the Last Ride. Jericho squirms out of the power bomb and nails the Codebreaker out of nowhere. Jericho pins Taker but it gets a long two count.
Jericho taunts the Deadman's pose and goes for a Tombstone. Awesome. Taker counters that into a Tombstone of his own. Jericho avoids it and takes Taker down with a chop block. Lionsault from Jericho to the Undertaker but the Undertaker immediately rises up. Taker tries a chokeslam but Jericho amazingly rolls out of it and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Te Undertaker tries to roll out but Jericho tries to keep the hold on. The Undertaker somehow gets Jericho into Hell's Gate and Jericho taps after about 10 seconds. Good match.
> The celebration is short-lived as The Big Show decides to make his way out to the ring. Show taunts the Deadman but it's just a distraction. Jericho attacks Taker and then Big Show joins in the destruction. Show chokeslams Taker and follows that up with a leg drop. Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho and The Big Show locks in his Cobra Clutch submission.
>Kane has seen enough from the backstage area and he comes out to help his brother. The Big Show leaves Jericho all by himself and Kane takes Y2J out with a boot. Jericho rolls out of the ring and it appears as if we'll be seeing a Brothers of Destruction versus Jeri-show match next week.
> We're backstage with Vince McMahon watching in approval. Vince calls Theodore Long (or Teddy calls Vince) and makes a tag match between Jeri-show and the Brothers of Destruction. Long approves Vince's idea and then Vince asks what's wrong with Teddy. Vince McMahon reminds Teddy he's still on vacation and we see Kane do his fire turnbuckle pose thing. The two tag teams stare each other down as the show ends.
>>>QUICK RESULTS<<<
• CM Punk def. R-Truth via pinfall
• Natalya def. Mickie James via submission
• Finlay and Drew McIntyre: NC
• John Morrison drew Dolph Ziggler (double count-out)
• Beth Phoenix def. Lisa Taylor via pinfall
• Undertaker def. Chris Jericho via submission
Michelle McCool and Layla cutting up Mickie's clothes was hilarity. I have to admit that character-wise, Michelle is really improving. She's got a long way to go in that department, but being a heel is helping her grow. And Layla is lovely.

I marked out when Kane came out. there was something about Kane helping his older brother out that almost brought a tear to my eye. Plus he did the ring post pyro which I haven't seen in a while. I'm super excited for both Raw and Smackdown main events next week!

Long is on probation, not vacation.
Also, has anyone else noticed Beth's been feeling up the jobbers before she pins them?

not gonna lie not liking that Taker vs Y2J happened tonight given WWE has very few first time ever matches left.
Posted By: Guest#9126 (Guest) on November 13, 2009 at 10:58 PM
wow for a guy with a submission as one of his finishers (Walls of Jericho) Y2J sure taps like a bitch.I'm blame creative though.

If I were Mickie, I would threaten to leave WWE at this point. Their treatment of her is utterly ridiculous. She essentially lost to a jobber (Natalya was already in ring, the typical jobber treatment) and got her...clothes destroyed (the Lita treatment). She hasn't one-upped McCool yet since coming to SD and I bet she jobs to McCool at Survivor Series as well. Really pathetic booking.
Posted By: panik (Guest) on November 13, 2009 at 11:32 PM
TWO diva matches? Gotta feel for the people in attendance. I bet you could have heard a pin drop when they were wrestling. So is Mickie becoming a jobber on the way out of WWE? Sure sounds like it. The only watchable diva right now is Beth. Hope she kills McCool for the title.

Don't you get it? Mickie HAS talked about leaving WWE. She feels she's being mistreated, is thinking of becoming a singer, etc. Why would they make somebody look good if they are close to leaving? That makes no sense. And btw, Mickie is in no condition to make threats anyway. Did you see tonight's match? Or any match the last couple of years? The crowd doesn't care about her anymore. She is just another diva now.
If you think the WWE is going to cave in to Mickie James of all people than you are obviously a mark for her. She doesn't mean shit to WWE at this point. If she has an attitude, watch how quickly they erase her history when she's gone.

I think just confirms she's already on her way out, she's lost her passion and if they treat her like this I don't blame her.

Hopefully next week its Michelle McCool vs Mickie James Bra & Panties Match. But I doubt that

If the reports are true and Mickie is interested in leaving the company, the booking is designed to help put other people over on the way out. If Mickie is staying, the booking is designed to make Michelle look like a bitch by screwing over a popular babyface who has made it clear she wants to become champion and we're supposed to want to see her succeed in her quest. There are dozens of wrestlers who've been treated worse. This is nothing.

Jericho gets jobbed out by KANE distraction and big show abandons him? shit, Jericho isn't made of overness, he will eventually lose his main event allure if he loses all the damn time. Also, if the match is as good as the recap says, then Taker really was phoning it in against punk intentionally to derail him. Taker and Jericho was pretty much the last legitimate dream match the wwe had, and they waste it on free tv will little fanfare. at least it was pretty good.

Yeah they were pretty silent, though they did pop for a couple of Beth's spots and when Natalya locked Mickie in a Sharpshooter.

Actually, they consider them two different things. You have the Playoffs, that lead to the World Series. Kinda dumb, but that's the way they promote it.

Grisham: Remember Jericho beat both The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night.
Striker: And that was a triple threat match!

Yeah because thats how the companies make their money by putting first time matches like this on tv. You don't have the business sense there do you?
Posted By: Guest#8005 (Guest) on November 14, 2009 at 10:55 AM
Mickie might as well leave. She's not even popular anymore. You would think on Smackdown they would pipe in cheers to make her seem more over. But they are letting her sink or swim, and guess what, she sank. No reaction for her whatsoever.
They are using whatever credibility she has left to put over McCool, Layla, and Natalya. Look how quickly Mickie tapped to the Sharpshooter. It was less than five seconds. It didn't look like she was "screwed" at all.
It's pretty obvious Beth is in line for a face turn. They are building her up as a killer, and then she's going to set her sights on McCool. Listen to the way she got a reaction from the crowd with her moves. It wasn't big reactions, but it at least it wasn't dead silence. That alone makes her the most deserving.

Yeah because thats how the companies make their money by putting first time matches like this on tv. You don't have the business sense there do you?

Stop it. Stop acting like you know anything on the "business" side. Stop acting like not putting this match on PPV is going to lead to the end of WWE. Just stop it. You got a good match, for free, on TV. Just enjoy it.

We'll see if this is the start of an R-Truth vs CM Punk angle. It could work. Is it just me or are Beth's squashes even more violent to watch than ones involving guys? And hey, the phone Box on top of the stage gave me an idea about what they can do about the Undertaker getting older. Just like Dr. Who, they can switch whos playing him! What could go wrong with that idea. I did like how in the Taker Vs Jericho match Jericho either reversed or escaped the Takers finishers, and Taker took and got back up from Jericho's.

I believe that Drew McIntyre's hair will be main eventing inside of two years.

Their PPV numbers are in serious decline because most people aren't stupid enough to shell out $45 for 3 hours of fake violence anymore. People have been talking about boxing dying for years too, and they are in a similar boat, popping big numbers maybe once or twice a year and getting nothing the rest of the time.
I mean if you're going to essentially concede that the weekly shows are just going to have garbage matches and nothing important in them, why should people tune in? But if the weekly shows don't interest people, it's probably harder to just put on the PPVs, otherwise they'd just put on PPVs and then use a clip show or something else weekly, like UFC generally does.
I'm still of the opinion that wrestling seriously needs an offseason, probably shouldn't tour, and should give up on the PPV model. WWE has been pushing that they are an entertainment industry, and most entertainment industries are not run like a boxing org, which is a sport. Wrestling is a hybrid but wants to have revenue streams from both sports and entertainment while not really running like either one of those runs. Additionally, all sports are entertainment anyway, and most of the sports are not on PPV (again, really only combat sports).
I don't really know that wrestling will be viable in the future, I would never hold WWE stock, although you would have done really well getting the IPO all those years ago and selling within the day like most people did.

Why do you care? I'm sure Vince knows a lot more about what's good for his business than you do. As stated before, stop it.
Posted By: Foolio (Guest) on November 14, 2009 at 06:11 PM
Wrestling as a whole might be on the decline, but WWE isn't going anywhere. They have too many revenue streams to keep them afloat. While the product might continue to get worse, and popular performers continue to leave, we are a long ways away from seeing them fold.

Putting Taker vs. Jericho on Smackdown annoyed me more then anything. This is one match I would have loved to see on PPV. It was one of the last big matches never done as a matter of fact.
Posted By: Likesomepeople (Guest) on November 14, 2009 at 08:10 PM
I was hopeing for a Jericho vs. Undertaker wrestlemania match. Or at least a PPV match with a storyline leading in. Why make Undertaker vs. Jericho a good throwaway TV match when it could have been match of the year?

All this talk of the Jericho/Taker dream match and where it should take place is ridiculous. What does it matter? We all knew it would culminate with Taker winning clean. Foregone conclusion, like every Taker match. Yes, I know about Kozlov but if you think UT would ever job to Jericho, you are dreaming. I hope Jericho is in a WM match that he can win, and one that will be good, not Taker vanity crap.
Posted By: Guest#6017 (Guest) on November 15, 2009 at 01:36 AM
UT v. anybody is not a dream match. Know why? Because he will win, always.
Posted By: Guest#0817 (Guest) on November 15, 2009 at 01:37 AM
Grisham: Remember Jericho beat both The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night.
Striker: And that was a triple threat match!
*silence*

I don't watch WWE TV so I was pretty dissapointed I missed Jericho vs. Undertaker, I didn't even know it was on. It would be a instant PPV seller for me.
Posted By: DonyS (Guest) on November 15, 2009 at 05:08 AM
It is the WWE. Vince is willing to put a wrench into anything and that includes The Streak. and Jericho vs. Taker didn't have to be a Wrestlemaia. But a proper build to a 1 on 1 Pay per view match, with no commercials, that would have been nice.
Posted By: Udidn't (Guest) on November 15, 2009 at 05:13 AM
Hmm a no contest, a double count out, CM punk needing to use the ropes to beat some hack, and 2 divas matches(one of those a complete squash). No wonder the crowd was dead.
2 decent matches and even the Taker/Jericho one which was hyped as a first time meeting wasn't as good as it was written.
So SD definately took a step back. Lack of wrestling to build up something down the road I guess.
So even though it was 'free' it surely won't be the last. Besides how many 'legendary' tag teams are jeroshow going ot have to be fueding with for people to take them seriously? There aren't enough tagteams left. But that's what happens when you refuse to promote young talent.
Who is in their late 20s and early thirties in WWE that is home grown with a big following? Cena maybe I guess. Orton and his crew job too much and even having him do all the craziness he does isn't enough. Because he will get a push for 3 months, maybe 4 and then disappear again. Edge, not home grown but he is crippled. WWE simpley doesnt push peopel that are young and keep them there. They just recycle these guys over and over again every few months. So people get used to seeing them but don't really reward them with anything long term.
Punk is a perfect example. The champ, had a semi long push and some decent success. UT decides to come back he loses the belt and is now in matches with R Truth. Seriously? R Truth should be wrestling the Miz or some other project. Punk surely doesnt have the long term credibility to get him over and you can't push both if one keeps beating the other. And Punk shouldn't be beating him to get a push either. So it is the ant push that WWE is so famous for. Similar with Ziggler and Morison. You can't build up both guys off each other. How about taking some of these has beens that permeate the roster and use them and their long standing to get all these guys over? That's WWE's problem, they don't do it. So what hapens is these guys get hurt, have an operation or two and just disappear or go to TNA. And peopel wonder why some guys skip WWE and go straight to TNA now, and I expect more of it in the future if Hogan and Bischoff can work some magic.
Big name stars tht can afford to lose without dinging their rep too bad SHOULD be losing to some of these guys. Not a dirty controversial loss and then immediately come back and bury them, but a legit clean win and some more future success. They actually started to do it with Legacy, but what happened? at the PPV they got buried and have been wrestling mark henry and MVP or whatever two guys WWE wanted on TV that week. So buried mid card again.
That's why WWE has had its raring drop in half the past couple years. I guess most peopel here forgot they used to do 6's every week, even agaisnt MNF.

"If I were Mickie, I would threaten to leave WWE at this point.
Posted By: panik (Guest) on November 13, 2009 at 11:32 PM"
OMG are you people stupid or what? Mickie is probably happy because she has finally been given something none of the Divas have in a long, LONG time. It's called "A STORY LINE". Michelle and Layla are going to continue the whole "bully" thing. Mickie will face Layla and beat the crap out of her and this will all build up to a PPV meeting between Mickie and Michelle..Good treatment doesn't have to meen a win. As long as she isn't made to look bad (A-la Lita) and she is getting a story..she's being treated better than any other diva in the company right now.

i only read 10% of your recap. why? because if i read the match reports it might give me an impression that the match is good...and why get that impression if i don't know whether the match was good or not?
screw you for not rating.

I miss the star ratings. I watch as much as i can and like to compare what i think of the matches with that of the reviewer. plus if i missed the match it can gie me more incentive to take the time to find look up the match.
also the jericho/undertaker match was really good and i hope o see them have a good long fued

The only way to legit get Kane over as a heel (since even when they push him as one, the crowd still cheers him) is to have him set someone on fire a la JR a few years back.
Actually, setting JR on fire would be the best way to go, especially since his bells palsy relapse.

Kane vs. UT at Wrasslemania and Kane ends to Undertakers streak it would finally get Kane over without a mask.

What the fuck do you call what Mickie was doing on Raw every week with Maryse from May through July? Or what Michelle was doing on Smackdown from the day Melins showed up?

Matt Striker refered Michelle McCool as M C Cool.
Hmmmm....reminds of A J Styles!
First she steals the Styles Clash.
Then his hooded attire, on Bragging Rights.
Now, his name!
