411's WWE Smackdown Report 11.20.09
Posted by Joseph F. Martinez on 11.20.2009

> Welcome to the Smackdown recap. Unfortunately my computer isn't cooperating this evening so there'll be no screen caps or anything. It still contains all of the action you missed in case you were out watching that Twilight movie or something. Let's get to the program.

> The show is in Philadelphia and the team of Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are our hosts. They run down the card for the evening, which includes a 2 out of 3 falls match between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler and a big tag team match involving the Brothers of Destruction and Jeri-Show.

> Batista is out to start the show. Tony Chimel refers to him as a "former World Champion," which seems out of place. Grisham and Striker discuss last week's happenings between Batista and Rey Mysterio. Matt Hardy is Big Dave's opponent. The announcers remind us viewers of the history between Hardy and Batista.

>>>MATCH ONE<<<
Matt Hardy versus Batista

Batista tries an early clothesline but Hardy ducks. Hardy goes at Batista with some punches until Big Dave fall out of the ring. Matt Hardy is pulled outside and Batista tries to slam Hardy's head against the barricade. Hardy counters and sends the Animal's head towards the rail. Hardy sends Batista back in the ring. Hardy tries to get back in but Batista kicks him. Batista whips Hardy against the ropes and sets up to flip him over. Hardy kicks Batista in the head and punches him. Batista shrugs it off, sends Hardy into the turnbuckle and power slams Hardy into a pin. Ref counts to two before Hardy can kick out.

Batista attacks the back of Matt Hardy and then latches on a rear chinlock. Grisham remarks about this and says Batista learned some new moves during his hiatus. Hardy tries to elbow his way out but Batista keeps the hold locked on. Hardy eventually gets to his feet and stuns Batista with a jawbreaker. Hardy gets to his feet and hits Batista in the head. This angers The Animal who responds with a furious knee to the gut. Batista sends Hardy into the corner and rushes towards him. Hardy puts up a boot to stop Big Dave for a second and shoves Batista back. Matt Hardy climbs the turnbuckle and comes down with an elbow to the back of the head. Hardy poses for the Twist of Fate but Batista sends him towards the ropes. Batista gets Hardy with a Big Boot on the rebound and tries the Batista Bomb. Hardy gets out of it and takes Batista out with a DDT. Pinfall gets two.

Batista gets Hardy with an arm rake and tries another clothesline. Hardy avoids and tries to take Batista down with the Side Effect. Batista elbows out of it and takes Hardy down with a chop block. Batista runs towards Hardy but Hardy quickly sends Batista into the turnbuckle with a drop toe hold. Matt Hardy climbs Batista and attacks with several punches. Batista lifts Hardy and sends his face towards the steel turnbuckle. Spinebuster from Batista to Matt Hardy and The Animal kicks the downed Hardy. Batista lifts Hardy up and takes him out with another Spinebuster. Batista then again kills Matt Hardy with a Spinebuster. Batista finally decides to end it with a Batista Bomb. Ref counts to three and Batista gets the win.

> Post match highlights are narrated by Grisham and Striker. They let us know Rey Mysterio will be in action later on in the show.

> We're backstage with Batista. He's stopped by Josh Matthews who asks him about Rey Mysterio. Batista says Mysterio made three mistakes. 1.) He cost Batista the World Title 2.) He signed the hold-harmless agreement and 3.) Rey embarrassed Batista. Big Dave says he's going to punish Rey at Survivor Series with no remorse.

> Grisham says something about Philadelphia being the City of Brotherly Love and the Brothers of Destruction. We get a video package highlighting the tag team. Lots of Chokeslams and fire.

> We see Teddy Long in the back. The lovely Vickie Guerrero and her boyfriend Eric Escobar join him. Vickie wonders why Teddy got the Brothers of Destruction back together and Teddy says it was Vince McMahon's decision. Vickie delivers the wisdom only she can provide and says Teddy needs to take control of the show. Guerrero says Long should use Eric Escobar some more. Teddy Long tells Guerrero and Escobar to get out.

> Vince McMahon enters. He shakes hands with Escobar and tells Teddy Long that teaming up the Brothers of Destruction is idiotic. Teddy Long tries to place the blame on Vince McMahon. I completely understand why he's on probation now. Mr. McMahon names Vickie Guerrero a consultant to Teddy Long and she is ecstatic. The crowd boos for reasons I can't comprehend.

> Well, it looks like the party is over because Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring. Grisham lets us know that McIntyre will be fighting Finlay again. McIntyre gets on the stick and says Finlay loves to cry and whimper. McIntyre says Finlay is scared to death of Drew McIntyre. He demands Finlay come out and fight and Finlay does.

>>>MATCH TWO<<<
Finlay versus Drew McIntyre

Finlay takes McIntyre down and attacks him with some punches. McIntyre tries to escape outside but Finlay joins him and punishes him out there. McIntyre gets back in the ring and Finlay again joins him and takes him out with a bunch of strikes. McIntyre tries to take Finlay into the corner but Finlay reverses him and beats him in the corner. Finlay stomps on McIntyre for a few seconds and then takes McIntyre in another corner to inflict more damage. The ref has to take Finlay off of McIntyre. Drew McIntyre takes advantage of the distraction by jabbing Finlay in the eye. Double under hook DDT from Drew McIntyre to Finlay ends the match.

> Grisham and Striker discuss the match and talk about how Finlay dominated through.

> CM Punk is shown walking in the back. Someone walks by him and he shakes his head in disapproval.

> DID YOU KNOW: The WWE Superstars just completed a 22 show, 2 week tour of Europe performing in front of over 170,000 people.

> CM Punk makes his entrance. Matt Striker says we can all learn a thing from Punk. We're shown in the ring a table with 3 white canisters with red X's on them. There's a trash can in front of the table. Punk says he's going to do what someone who loves us should have done a long time ago. Punk says it's intervention time. Straight Edge intervention time! CM Punk wants everyone to start their intervention and wants the fans to make a confession. I would stand up and admit I have a problem but I need to type this out for you. The fans boo and Punk says they are in denial. He points at some fans and calls them powerless, hopeless and nothing. All is not bad because CM Punk claims he's about to teach us how to survive.

He lifts canister one and there's a carton of cigarettes under there. After a lengthy discussion of the dangers of cigarettes, Punk throws the cigarettes in the trash can. Punk lifts canister two and there's a bottle of prescription medications. Insert your own Rey Mysterio joke here. Punk goes on a rant against the pills and eventually throws them into the garbage can. Under canister three is a bottle of whiskey, which gets the loudest pop of the night so far. CM Punk berates the fans for cheering the bottle and asks how badly the fans want to see him take a drink of the bottle. Punk say it's never going to happen and attacks the fans for wishing such a thing. POISON is in the bottle according to CM Punk. He wants hazard symbols on whiskey. Punk opens the bottle of whiskey and slowly empties it in the garbage can. The fans boo the actions of CM Punk.

R-Truth has had enough of CM Punk's intervention and makes his way into the ring. Truth asks the fans what's up and then says he's going to tell us the truth. R-Truth says that, despite what Punk wants us to do, it is up to everyone to make their own decisions in life. R-Truth says he doesn't like Punk then delivers a DDT to the Straight Edge Superstar. R-Truth lifts the garbage can and showers CM Punk with the contents. Adding insult to injury, Truth hits CM Punk with the can.

> Tony Chimel announces the stipulation for the Intercontinental Title match. John Morrison is out first. Grisham reminds us that John Morrison and The Miz each captain a Survivor Series team this Sunday. The announcers recap the highlights of last week's match before the beginning of this bout.

> Chris Jericho and The Big Show make their entrance and the show goes to a commercial break. After the break, we see Jeri-Show game planning. awesome main event!!! about as awesome as a tag mainevent on smack down is gonna get

Jericho is hilarious! He is the total opposite of John Cena.

Jericho makes me laugh we he isn't even trying. John Cena tries so hard to make me laugh and fails.

That diva segment was really retarded. It's not going to get heat for McCool, and it's not going to get sympathy for Mickie. I'm not a hater of either one, but this is my two cents:

I really hope Mickie does leave. She is so fucking stale it's hard to watch her. She can barely do anything in the ring. I don't know if that's because of the weight gain, her injuries, or lack of motivation. But she is consistently having brutal matches. I also hate the way they book her. She does almost nothing in the match, and then just magically pins her opponent. So not only does she suck, but she basically kills the chance of anybody else getting over.

And Mickie's reaction to the segment was real. Here's what I think happened. They told her McCool was going to make fun of her after the match. But they didn't tell her what it was going to be about. Watch the segment on Youtube. As soon as you see McCool on the farm, Mickie has this look on her face like "oh shit". Then when the pig is shown, she shakes her head in a way that suggests she isn't surprised that they went there, probaly because of all the weight rumors. Then she starts crying for real, and has a hard time looking at the screen. She's a horrible actress, I seriously doubt she could cry on cue like that. The only part where she tried to play along was as she was leaving, looking at the crowd a little bit. But it was more pathetic than sympathetic.

Long story short, it was a burial, and she knew it was a burial. She's either made up her mind that she's leaving, or will in the near future. Don't be surprised if Beth makes a face turn in the next week or two as a way of phasing her out.

Here's how I know the Mickie thing was a burial. I watched it online. After the segment, when Mickie is walking out of the ring, Striker and Grisham start talking. They try and sell it like it was mean. Then they pause abruptly, and have this exchange:

Striker: It was pretty funny though, Michelle's singing.

Grisham: It was great. High humor.

I don't know if that's how they really felt, but I can't help but think of Vince McMahon backstage, screaming into their headsets "Laugh. Laugh damn it!!!!!"

OK, first thing's first, we all know the womens match sucked. Let's not lie to each other, shall we? But I DID notice one thing that would have been a Hidden Highlight, if that was still around. When Layla got her only cover in the match, she stayed on her toes, keeping her knees off the mat, which put all her weight on Mickie. As a former middle and high school wrestler, (four years, NEVER pinned in high school. EVER!) I was always told "Stay off your knees." Usually, when pro wrestlers go for a cover, they'll lay across the other guy and get a near fall, or an actual pin, but in reality very little of their weight os actually ON their opponent, which is probably a good thing in something like a Big Show vs. Rey match, considering if Show put all his weight on Rey, they'd scrape Rey up with a spatula. I was just amazed at Layla's WRESTLING knowledge of how to properly pin somebody. The after match was total shit. Really? I thought I was watching wrestling, not Hee-Haw. This was supposed to HURT Mickie? If I was her I'd be laughing my ass off at how stupid McCool looked throughout the whole thing. Really? Old Michelle had a farm? I know at it's heart, wrestling is a carny show, but shit, people. And for FUCK'S sake will they give Finlay back his old music for this feud with McIntyre? The bouncy leprechaun shit ain't gettin it done.

the mickie james segment was not a soc alled burial and mikcie is not leaving wwe for some country music venture and she is not going to stupid tna for 4 times less money.

the segment was SCRIPTED and mickie was acting because that is her job to get sympathy from the fans as the top babyface.

i am sick and tired of iwc morons trying to psychoanalyze this pro wrestling garbage. it is just MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT.

I wanted Dolph to win. He's gotten so damn good the past year. I also want him to be another Curt Henning circa AWA mid-1980's. I am too naive sometimes. =( haha.

The main event was sorta a let down to me. I think one thing Raw does better then SD is having main events that jump start the crowd. I am not saying the SD crowd is dead for the ME or anything. I just am used to Raw having endings that leave me wanting to see next week's Raw. I often don't feel that way about SD.

As far as the Mickie/Layla match and segment.. Layla looked amazing in her MHWC inspired attire. The match wasn't much. Same ol' Mickie doesn't do anything to help get the other chick over thing we have seen time and time again. I wonder how many people have changed their minds on if Trish was really the reason "psycho" Mickie worked.. Hmm.. haha The Michelle segment was BAD. I love that Layla is wrestling more, I really do cuz she's incredible to look at. However, why are they giving the "You need personality or you will look like the biggest idiot (and not in a 'good' way for wrestling)" to Michelle? You can fake having personality or charisma. You would think after 2 and a half years of pushing her, Michelle would learn that.

The rest of the show was good for what it was.

Mickie is not fat. Has anyone seen a real fat chick before?

Hint: She was in a segment with Teddy Long tonight

Has Mickie ever made any of her opponents look good? She just ruins any chance of anyone getting over. The funny thing is she herself is less over now because of it. It's called karma Mickie. And it's starting to catch up with you.

The pig segment was obviously part of the storyline. But Mickie is being set up to get jobbed out. They are making her look like a fool, and I wouldn't be surprised if the tears were real. I think she knows what's going on, and there's nothing she can do about it. She's gone by the end of the year.

Who cares about Mickie James at this point? She's an over the hill has been that peaked in her first six months with WWE and then immediatley went into a decline when Trish Stratus and Lita weren't around to carry her ass anymore.

The McCool segment was stupid, and probaly just encouraged Mickie to quit even more. Hello people, she's been talking about that for months now. Did you think WWE was going to give her a fairytale sendoff like they did with Trish? Hell no. And Michael Hayes, head writer of Smackdown, loves Beth Phoenix. Expect her to dominate the match on Sunday, and challenge McCool in the near future. Boom, there's your next top babyface.

I wouldn't bring up Vickie G. when your talking about Mickie. I know I'm not the only one that sees a resemblance. Mickie will look like Vickie in about three years.

If you want to see what a real fat chick looks like, here's another example.

Hint: She's the idiot that probaly wrote the pig segment.

Remember when Punk was in the world-title scene a few months back? Me neither.

Not that I object to them trying to make something out of R-Truth, but it's just kinda sad to see Punk crashing down the card so fast. And as fun as the intervention promo was, the premise for their upcoming feud sucks hardcore. Truth just comes out there and essentially goes Jeff Hardy -lite regarding his reasoning. Might as well have taken the mic and said: "I don't like you because you hang out in the heel locker room!".

Forget Mickie, what about McCool? Her acting sucks, but that was the hottest she has ever looked. Oh yeah, and she will win the payoff match. That is, if Mickie isn't gone before it can happen.

You know you're living in a superficial society and something is really wrong with it when people spend more time commenting on the "fatness" of a chick than on an amazing IC Title Match and Feud like the Jo Mo/Ziggy one.....

the mickie james segment was not a soc alled burial and mikcie is not leaving wwe for some country music venture and she is not going to stupid tna for 4 times less money.

the segment was SCRIPTED and mickie was acting because that is her job to get sympathy from the fans as the top babyface.

i am sick and tired of iwc morons trying to psychoanalyze this pro wrestling garbage. it is just MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT.

Posted By: Guest#0837 (Guest) on November 20, 2009 at 11:37 PM

THats ok tool we're sick of morons like you acting like you're smarter then everyone just because you don't write for the IWC so you acting like you would know more is sad and pathetic and sums yup why people hate tools.

iwc rassling fans should be locked up for being eternally stupid.

the mickie situation is a STORYLINE. MIKCIE IS NOT LEAVING WWE TO BE A COUNTRY SINGER. if anything, that would be a side project because she has a very slim cahnce of being successful.

wwe is pg so it is not like michelle can go on tv and call her a whore or show nude pictures of her to the tv audience.

the only thing they can make fun of her is her short height or her alleged weight.

it is just a storyline, she is the most popular female in wwe and that comes from casual fans at shows.

womens wrestling is filler and don't let the tna idiots tell you different just because idiots at the impact zone go psycho over it.

Holy fuck, why do people keep trying to see more than what is really going on when it comes to the Mickie James situation? The whole thing is fucking scripted. Mickie knows the deal. McCool knows the deal. The writers know the deal. The STORYLINE that they've been trying to get across is that the SmackDown! chicks didn't want Mickie around so they offered her a chance to get the hell off their show. Mickie refused because she wants to challenge McCool for the title because she's the babyface and is supposed to look strong in the face of adversity. McCool threatened to make her life a living hell because of her refusal because she's the heel and is supposed to come across as a mean person. They've followed up on that STORYLINE by having McCool come up with ways to get under Mickie's skin and the idea is to rally behind Mickie in her quest to kick McCool's ass. Oh, and hey, wouldn't you know it? There's a PPV this Sunday where they're going to be fighting! You're seriously lost in the fog if you think this is the company taking liberties with Mickie. This isn't Montreal or Wendi Richter or even Lita. I don't see how she's not making other women look good. She jobbed to Natalya via submission last week and she's helping make Layla and McCool look like total bitches. Stop reading into this.

As usual SmackDown delivers. I just really didn't like the Michelle McCool's Farm segment though. Scripted or not it was really mean and I can't help but feel that Mickie's crying was mostly real. At least some of the members in the crowd tried to cheer her up by yelling out "We love you Mickie!"

I agree with you 100%. But I think it happens because it's an easy way to piss off alot of people online. See, most of Mickie's fanbase is online. They try and make her sound much more popular than she really is. If she was half as over as the IWC would have you believe, she'd be one of the most popular people in the company.

So I think the anti-Mickie group(which is growing all the time) is loving this segment because they know how all the Mickie marks are going to run to their computer and cry over it. And they are right. Just type in "Mickie James Pig" or "Piggy James" on Google. Just prepare to read alot of whiny bitches that sound like their about to commit suicide because WWE thinks she's fat.

You know you're living in a superficial society and something is really wrong with it when people spend more time commenting on the "fatness" of a chick than on an amazing IC Title Match and Feud like the Jo Mo/Ziggy one.....

No really keep talking about dumb thing like "Mickie is too fat" (since when people DO CARE More about a meaningless diva division than the male one ?).

Posted By: Epic Fail For 411 Smarks (Guest) on November 21, 2009 at 12:57 AM

Guess the WWE did something right if people are talking about. But the reason that this is getting so much more attention is simply because it is something out of the ordinary. We've seen Ziggler and Dolph fight a few times before. Besides while Dolph's match was good I don't think it qualifies as amazing. They didn't really have quite enough time to use the stipulation to its fullest. Definitely very good but not "amazing".

As for the Mickie James thing it was in very poor taste whether Mickie knew it or not. Having a normal weight women berated as a pig is really not good TV and not good for PR. I wasn't ok with it when they did it to Vickie and its much worse with Mickie.

Also it drags the whole division down. How exactly are you going to make male fans care about the division when the storylines revolve around torn clothes and one woman calling another fat.

Treat the women as athletes and maybe we'll care enough to take interest in their wrestling. If you want to treat them like this then just put them in bikini contests and mud matches.

Didn't Lillian Garcia put out an album independent of WWE with no problems?

Everyone is saying Mickie can't act, but she took off initially BECAUSE of her ability to act. I think, based on her commentary spots, it's safer to say "Mickie can't talk extemporaneously".

I think the real problem is MICHELLE can't act AND apparently has no rhythm, because SHE was the one that ruined the segment.

Layla is getting better in the ring though.

"I really hope Mickie does leave. So not only does she suck, but she basically kills the chance of anybody else getting over."

I'm sorry ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Name one diva thats lighting shit on fire right now? Newsflash, NONE OF THEM ARE because the E' never takes the division seriously. They need to get rid of people like Kelly Kelly, Layla, Eve, Tiffany, etc. all the chicks who CAN'T wrestle, because T & A at this point in the E' is worthless in the WWE PG era.

Mickie is not fat!! She is hot!! She is a real freakin woman!! Half the ppl making those "fat" comments are probably obese themselves.

Jericho is GOLD every night, I hope he wins the World Title.
CM Punk segment was great too, that's how u have someone who cannot get mixed into the World Title picture at the moment actually have a feud. Can't go wrong with Jericho or Punk as World Champ. What's wrong with elevating R-Truth? He is a former TNA WORLD Champion, Punk will beat him in the end, like he would any of those other TNAFlunkys.

Morrison, Ziggler was great, guess Ziggler can go to the back of the line now.

McIntrye is GREAT, love this guy! Future World Champ. Maybe have him and Sheamus, Burchill join forces somehow and just kick ass.

Remember in 2005 when the IWC pundits were kissing Mickie's ass, calling her great?

No wonder most wrestlers hate the IWC. They'll turn on performers in a heartbeat and blame them because they're "mailing it in" or "the product" is stale.

Find a vagina, folks.

Punk cut one of the best promos of 2009 tonight.

And how can you argue with his message??

Posted By: Bonerfied (Guest)  on November 21, 2009 at 09:18 AM

All the online sites are pretty much confirming that the Piggy James thing was punishment. WWE is upset by her weight gain and the fact that she is thinking about stuff outside of wrestling. That segment made her look more stupid than sympathetic. If she was supposed to cry because of a pig cartoon, than her character is an insecure moron. And she has never, ever shown herself to be a good actress before. Those tears were real, deal with it Mickie fans. If she is gone in the near future, let's hope she takes her ugly buddy Melina with her.

Posted By: Guest#4695 (Guest)  on November 21, 2009 at 12:07 PM

The problem with the pig segment is that, if anything, people in the crowd probaly would have laughed. It was not offensive, it was funny in a really immature way(like most wrestling is).

And let's face it, all they had to do was slap a nose on Mickie's face, and she made a very convincing pig. She is not that pretty, and this segment exposed that fact. I fully expect to see "Piggy James" signs in the crowd next week. I'm thinking "Mickie James has quit/been released" will be a headline in the very near future.

I think the problem is Mickie can't do anything but "psycho" convincingly. That's why people say she can't act. She's one dimensional. The reason I got sick of her was because she makes a bland babyface that makes her opponents look worthless, and she's been pushed that way for about three years now. She's beyond stale.

Being overhyped by the IWC is the worst thing that can happen to a wrestler. Because once they fail to live up to it, everything turns south for them. The best thing that ever happened to Trish was that she didn't get that type of support. If anything, she got the opposite. But now, ever since she retired, people tend to treat her like a goddess, because they realise what a great all around performer she was. So what's the lesson:

Internet Darling(Mickie James, CM Punk) = Crash and burn, people turn on your viciously. Vince McMahon treats you like a joke.

Internet Scorns You(Trish Stratus, The Rock) = You go out as a legend, and then everybody kisses your ass until the end of time. Vince McMahon lets you shill whatever you want just to get you to appear on his shows.

John Cena, the future is looking very bright for you.

With Taker and Batista back the product has got stale fast!

Punk was so much better for the company when he was champ. It's a disgrace how he's being used. As for the overrated comments - please. He is fresh and interesting and very comfortable at main event level. Much more upside in him than Orton who they've backed to the hilt!!!

Yawn.....................

As for the Mickie/McCool segment.. and any other diva segment in WWE.. does anyone else just wish that Kong will come in and kill all 'em bitches dead? TNA knockouts will always be > WWE divas as long as looks > ability when it comes to the 'E. Also did anyone else notice Grisam's error? "of the 6 people fighting for World titles at Suvivor Series.. 4 have Had the intercontental title" I only counted 3.. unless Cena, Show, or Taker had an IC title run I forgot.

First off, Mickie is not fat. She's hotter than most women. Secondly, the E doesn't take the Divas division seriously because the general public doesn't. Noone cares about women's wrestling. Eye candy brings ratings.
