411's ECW on SyFy Report 11.24.09
Posted by Michael Bauer on 11.24.2009

Welcome to the ECW on SyFy! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

Zack Ryder (with Rosa Mendes) vs. Shelton Benjamin

We get highlights from Superstars with Rosa entering the ring and helping Zack defeat Shelton. Josh Matthews says that if Shelton wins this match, he will be the #1 contender to Christian's ECW Title. Hard to see him losing now. The bell rings and Zack nails to the ropes immediately. Shelton starts clubbing away and whips Ryder, but he slides under the bottom rope. Shelton chases him out and clotheslines him to the floor. Zack rolls in and he backs off, but Shelton stays on the attack with a suplex. Zack kicks out at two and backs Shelton in the corner. Shelton gets whipped across and monkey flipped, but he lands on his feet. Shelton hits a Samoan Drop and gets two. Zack backed in the corner now and he lifts Shelton off of the ten punches, but Shelton blocked the inverted atomic drop and decks Ryder. Ryder hits a knee to the gut and starts getting cocky with his punches and kicks. Ryder has the whip reverses and gets drilled with an overhead belly to belly suplex for a near fall. Shelton lifts Ryder up and put him on the apron, but Ryder snaps his neck. Ryder heads up top, but Shelton leaps up and kicks him to the floor as we go to commercial at 4:15.

Back at 7:20 with Ryder having Shelton in a grounded headlock. We see clips from the commercial with Ryder hitting a Rough Ryder leg lariat on the floor. Ryder stops Shelton from fully escaping by throwing him chest first into the turnbuckle. Ryder chokes Shelton with his boot and follows up with a back suplex. Ryder heads to the second turnbuckle and hits a splash for a two count. Ryder locks in the body scissors and lets go to go back to stomping away. Ryder goes up top again and hits a splash off the top rope for another two count. Ryder took a real long time, like no way he would hit that. Shelton eats some punches in the corner, but he fights back, begging for Ryder more shots. Shelton then fights back and gets whipped to the corner, but he leaps up top in one motion and hits a spinning forearm. Shelton picks up the momentum and hits German Suplex for two. Ryder whipped to the corner, but he gets the boot up. Ryder off the ropes and Shelton catches Ryder going for the Rough Ryder and powerbombs him into the turnbuckle. Shelton catches Ryder with the PayDirt and gets the three count at 12:00! Shelton is now the #1 contender for the ECW Title!

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Match Rating: **1/2 Pretty good match here as these two have had plenty of chemistry in the ring.

Out comes Christian after the match. He makes his way down the aisle as we go to commercial. Back from the break and Christian has the mic. Christian talks about the Pay Per View in three weeks called TLC. He says with one tables match, one chairs match, one ladder match, and one TLC match. Christian says he takes exception to the fact that the ECW Title has been left off of Pay Per View lately. Christian says he wants to do something about that and challenges Shelton Benjamin to a Ladder Match at the TLC Pay Per View! Shelton asks if Christian has lost his mind. Christian says both of them would be in just about every highlight in ladder match history. And that he wants to steal the show side by side with Shelton at the TLC Pay Per View. Shelton says he has a partner in crime and accepts the challenge, but promises to be the new ECW Champion.

Backstage, William Regal calls it an outrage that he is not defending the title. Regal says that defeating Tatsu will get him back in the title picture. Both of his roundtable agree and Regal keeps talking as we cut to commercial.

Vance Archer vs. Alex Reynolds

Alex is the hometown kid about to get killed. The bell rings as Josh says Vance can read body language well. Vance boots the kid and chokes him with his boot. Vance hits a back elbow and chokes the kid again. Vance goes to a very hard chinlock, twisting the head of the kid. Alex gets up and gets clubbed down. Vance is taking him time here as he knocks the kid's head off with a short-arm clothesline. Seriously, this is methodical as hell. Vance smiles as he slams Alex to the ground with the spinning flapjack and stomps away. Finally, Vance scoops up Alex and hits the reverse DDT to end the match at 2:30 as the boos just pour in from the crowd.

Winner: Vance Archer

Match Rating: ¾* The slow pace wasn't needed, but I actually kind of liked it.

Back from a break and the Raw Rebound hypes up Sheamus' rise to the #1 Contendership on Raw. Now, I'm sorry, but beating up Jaime Noble and pump kicking Jerry Lawler does not make you a contender. And Sheamus wasn't even that impressive on ECW, where he feuded with Goldust and Shelton. Yeah, last night was great for him, but one night does not make a viable contender.

We get the introduction for Tony Atlas, who opens up the Abraham Washington show, with Matt Hardy as tonight's guest. Out comes Abraham Washington, the most entertaining man in sports entertainment… HA! He asks who went out to see New Moon and he says it is full of werewolves. He thinks he has Twilight Fever, since he sees a bunch of dogs in the audience. But he quickly brings out Matt Hardy and this should be interesting. Abraham says he was excited to have a Hardy on the show, but he was disappointed that it was Matt. Matt says he was upset that he wasn't invited on the Conan O'Brien Show. Matt will be on Sci-Fi next week, being in an episode of Scare Tactics. And we get a clip from next week's show with Matt busting through a door and scaring the shit out of some poor soul. Washington isn't scared and is never scared, until Tony Atlas sneaks up behind him and freaks the shit out of him. Washington says Tony needs to be scared of the unemployment line. Abraham asks what Matt is scared of and Matt jokes around about being in a nightmare about being on this show. Matt says that having the last name Hardy means he has no fear, that it is just a four letter word. Abraham says that he is afraid we are out of time and walks off in disgust, leaving Matt and Tony to do the V-1 hand sign.

Backstage, Yoshi gets ready for his match.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. William Regal (with Big Zeke and Kozlov)

Yoshi is already in battle stance as Regal makes his entrance and is not dropping his guard. The bell rings and Regal gets a quick arm wrench, but Yoshi reverses and flips Regal over. Regal goes but to the wrench, but Yoshi uses the ropes to flip around and he drags down Regal. The two exchange uppercuts and Yoshi just kicks away. Yoshi whipped to the corner and he runs into a shoulder from Regal. Regal with knees to the face before locking in a chinlock. Regal with a forearm to the back of the head and he drives Yoshi on the second rope. Kozlov pie faces Yoshi and shoves him off. Yoshi turns and delivers the roundhouse kicks to Regal and gets the three count at 2:30. That's it?

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu

Match Rating: * That was… well… kinda weird.

Regal gets in the face of both Jackson and Kozlov and looks to blame Jackson for the loss. Especially after Kozlov points the finger at Jackson, saying it is his fault. Jackson lowers Kozlov's hand and drills him to the mat with the modified Urinage. Regal tries to calm down Jackson, but Big Zeke gets right in Regal's face and eventually drills him down as well! Well, that was way too drawn out. Jackson then walks out of the ring and just marches to the back. Both men are slow to get up as we end the broadcast for this week.

Jackson babyface?

I just can't put that word and that name in the same sentence.

What can the negative IWC'ers bitch about for the TLC PPV with Christian vs. Shelton added in a ladder match?

pushing new faces is brilliant at this time. if it all fails in the next month, then okay, restart it at the royal rumble, if it is all positive, then perfect-new stars are made.

Christian vs. Shelton, there's your match of the night at TLC right there, no matter what the other matches will be

Throw your opponent outside of the ring so we can cut to commercial.

Too bad Burchill is gone from ECW. He'd fill that spot in Regal's stable quite nicely.

But seriously, this match should be MOTN.

My kind of episode..Chris Jericho is the best in the business but Christian and Shelton are right behind him in the WWE and they get to face off in a Ladder Match for the ECW title? Great news.

Another Archer squash, huh? I guess they need more highlights for his Titantron video.

The DDT finisher still seems generic. A guy named Archer should use some sort of Bow and Arrow hold or maybe the Falcon Arrow.

I say Ezekial turning face has more to do with allowing Regal and Kozlov to be a heel tag team.

Isn't the concept of the breakthrough battle royal meant to negate the idea of working for the shot at the title? Come a couple months time, sheamus will be over, all because of this bold move. But you got to bitch, I guess.

I also hate this, it makes the matches seem even more phoney.... isn't the aim of wrestling to suspend our disbelief??

Maybe Ezekiel just said "fuck it, I'm done with ECW"

Put him on Smackdown, pair him up with Batista!

Yeah IWC can shut up about Shelton bot being pushed. I personally find him very overrated in the ring and hasn't shown anything fresh in the ring for about 4 years. His only interesting phase was when his Mama was there.

A ladder match for the ECW title? brilliant! Christian is awesome at the moment & we know what Shelton can do in a ladder match, think im gonna buy this show.

Still having multiple orgasms over a Christian/Shelton ladder match.

PLEASE put the belt on Shelton...guy deserves a push. Again.

The possible entertainment value of tis PPV just skyrocketed. I can't wait to see Chrisitan/Shelton ladder match, and I have a feeling it's Shelton's time to wear the belt.

Shelton Who?

They should've kept the old ECW title this new one that is all Silver looks like it was custom made for Disney.

If Shelton wins maybe they'll make him a gold belt.

Ezekial Jackson is being set up much the same way Batista was, just note on as large a scale..

Think about it, Batista was a lackey for Devon at the outset, then moved on to join a stable (Revolution) before turning and going face and onto superstardom. Now Jackson's road is similiar without the fanfare.. Lackey to Kendrick, paired up in a stable (Roundtable), and now breaks out as a face. We'll see what happens..he has the strength and size, just a few more pieces to fit in the puzzle and Jackson could be another one of Vince's big guy pushes

Christain versus Shelton in a ladder match? Please god do not them go no less than 15 minutes for fame. This could very well steal the show.

Posted By: Guest#7088 (Guest)  on November 25, 2009 at 12:49 PM

Man, I'm excited for the Ladder match and all, but that exchange between them sounded so goofy. It's like WWE has to preserve that they are both babyfaces and can't let either one of them really insult the other. Too sportsmanlike.

Posted By: observationalist (Guest)  on November 25, 2009 at 01:40 PM

I like Big Zeke, and thought from the beginning this whole thing could be like Batista with Evolution OR Big Show with the NWO.

However, I don't think they built to this at all. Part of it is Regal wasn't champ, so Zeke had no real reason to turn except he didn't wanna get blamed for something that wasn't his fault..

Posted By: Bill (Guest) on November 24, 2009 at 11:16 PM

I wouldn't be too sure; the ECW Title gets shafted a lot on PPV and there's DX Vs Jeri-Show in TLC;

Let me rephrase that, SHAWN MICHAELS and hhh Vs CHRIS JERICHO and big show in a TLC Match. If hhh and big show eliminate themselves for a majority then we'll get SHAWN MICHAELS VS CHRIS JERICHO in a TLC for most of it.

But TLC looks really strong.

Heh - good point, I hadn't really thought about the "Michaels/Jericho in another ladder match" angle there. In addition, it's not like HHH hasn't been decent in ladder matches either in the past, and with WWE trying to put over a new PPV angle here with TLC, I expect him to be good here too. Show is the only guy I worry about, actually, but if he and Jericho can come up with some unique team up to get the belts-type moves, could be a really good match.

Liking the card so far, just wonder what the plans for the World title match are...
