411's ECW on SyFy Report 12.22.09

Jack Swagger comes back to the land of Extreme to battle Yoshi Tatsu as the ECW Homecoming continues.
Welcome to the ECW on SyFy! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. And the opening hype before the opening video is for the ECW Homecoming, with highlights from last week and hype for Jack Swagger tonight.
And we open up with Jack Swagger coming to the ring with a microphone in hand. Well, at least to the stage. Swagger says we finally have a show worth watching, since he has returned. He talks up the whole ECW Homecoming concept, with the winner getting a shot at Christian. He says a lot of new face are in ECW, but Christian is still a chump and Dreamer is still fat. Swagger then brings out a promo video for himself. He then calls himself the once and future ECW Champion after the video and walks off.
Zack Ryder (with Rosa Mendes) vs. Tommy Dreamer
Wow, this match wasn't listed on the spoilers, but I'm sure glad to get one last Tommy Dreamer match. It's amazing how prophetic Ryder was last week. Ryder whips Dreamer off the ropes, but gets taken down with a series of arm drags. Ryder gets up and clubs away on Dreamer. Dreamer whipped again and he connects with a knee lift. Ryder dumped to the floor and Rosa distracts Dreamer, allowing Ryder to stop the cannonball roll. Ryder rolls Dreamer in and goes to the headlock. Dreamer gets up and goes off the ropes, getting a sunset flip for two. Ryder hits a Rough Ryder Leg Lariat for two and back Dreamer into the corner, nailing the Face Wash kick in the corner. Ryder goes up top and gets caught by Dreamer. Dreamer connects with a superplex. Both men up at the same and Dreamer gets the advantage with the punches before whipping Ryder and getting a back body drop. Dreamer gets a two count after a bodyslam. Dreamer gets up Ryder in the corner and locks him in the Tree of Woe! E! C! W! Dreamer connects with the basement dropkick and lines up for the DDT, but Ryder ducks to the floor. Ryder punches Dreamer and snaps his neck on the top rope. Ryder rolls in and hits the Zack Attack for the three count at 4:15.
Winner: Zack Ryder
Match Rating: **1/4 Dreamer was extra motivated for obvious reasons here. Thank you Tommy for everything!
Back from the break and we go to Tony Atlas for the introduction of the Abraham Washington show. Washington has some mic issues, like it clashed with the music. Couldn't they just cut it off instead? Washington says he is too classy to dump on Tiger Woods, since he is one of the biggest fans of the show. He used to call him all the time before his wife knocked him upside the head with the phone. Yeah, I'm sure Washington's jokes aren't PG tonight, saying Tiger shouldn't play more than 18 holes. He stops finally and brings out an even worse joke… Trent Baretta and Caylen Croft. Washington gives them shit for jumping on the couch and says he is a part of the new superstar initiative that they are going to redefine. They wonder if he has seem them in a ring. Washington asks if they have see him in a ring. They quickly answer no and Washington admits that one. Trent and Caylen make some whack video game references in comparing them to Miz/Morrison and the Hart Dynasty. They want a drink, but Washington says this isn't Raw. Croft and Baretta say they will be Tag Team Champions by this time next year. HA! Tony says he was a former Tag team Champion and they tell him he is old and doesn't matter. Abraham comes to his defense… just to show mercy and end the show. That was horrible.
Backstage, Swagger wonders why Tiffany is still running this place. Tiffany says it is better without Swagger, but Swagger says that she wants him to win ECW Homecoming. In flies The Hurricane and Swagger wonders what his powers are. Hurricane says he can do anything… except fix that speech impediment. BURN! Swagger walks off pissed as we go to commercial.
We get some highlights from the Tribute to the Troops show that aired on Saturday Night, with John Cena's promo leading the way and 100% focusing on Cena, with pieces from every year he has shown up.
ECW Homecoming Qualifying Match – Vance Archer vs. Goldust
The bell rings and Goldust gets backed into the corner. Goldust switches out and slaps Archer. Vance gets whipped and Goldust hits the butt bump. Archer gets up and throws Goldust hard into the corner and stomps away. Archer with a chinlock, Goldust up, but Archer shoves him up and hits a forearm to the back. Archer goes back to the chinlock after dealing more punishment. Goldust escapes, but gets whipped across and hits a flying clothesline. Goldust drops down off the ropes and hits an uppercut. Goldust connects with a face smash for two. Goldust backs Archer to the corner, but Archer reverses and catches Goldust coming out of the corner and lifts up into position for the reverse DDT. Archer connects and gets the three count at 3:00.
Winner: Vance Archer
Match Rating: * This definitely felt a bit off.
Back from a break and it is the Smackdown Rebound, with Mysterio beating Batista to get a shot at the Undertaker. Shows you how much nothing happened on Raw last night.
We then see the breakdown of Regal's Roundtable and Kozlov getting destroyed last week. So on Superstars, Kozlov takes on Jackson again.
Backstage, Yoshi Tatsu is getting tips from Christian on how to face Swagger. Swagger calls Christian Mr. Miyagi with Tatsu as the Karate Kid and Christian says he is still a dork. Yoshi says something in Japanese and Swagger leaves before the mind games set in. Yoshi then speaks English… "What a jackass." I'm with Christian, because I was also thinking the same thing.
Back from a commercial, we get a trailer for the Marine 2. I still think they should have waited for Ted to turn face before this was released.
Next week, Matt Hardy and Evan Bourne return to ECW!
ECW Homecoming Qualifying Match – Jack Swagger vs. Yoshi Tatsu
Dang, the crowd loves Yoshi Tatsu. The bell rings and Swagger gets the amateur takedown on Tatsu and keeps him down with the waistlock. Yoshi gets up twice and swagger uses his power to keep him down before using the crossface punches. Yoshi whipped across, he ducks a clothesline and gets a schoolboy for two. A dropkick connects for another two, but Swagger lifts Tatsu and drives him into the corner. Yoshi whipped across and Swagger hits a huge clothesline in the corner. Swagger goes to a key lock on Yoshi and hits a knee to the face to stop him from getting up. Swagger with an arm drag takedown and goes to the arm bar. Yoshi gets up and blocks a gutwrench powerbomb. Yoshi spins out and kicks down Swagger, who bails to the corner looking shocked. We go to commercial at 3:25.
Back at 7:20 and Swagger has Tatsu in a grounded hammerlock and he drills Tatsu into the corner. Yoshi is whipped across, but gets the boots up, but that is caught by Swagger. Swagger turns him around and drills him in the back with a forearm. Swagger connects with a back suplex for a two count and follows with a belly to belly suplex, but goes for push-ups instead of a pin. Swagger drops a series of elbow drops and gets a two count. Swagger back to the key lock and he throws Yoshi to the ropes and drills him with another forearm strike. Yoshi slips out of a suplex attempt and starts kicking away, but Swagger's kicks down him. Yoshi avoids a charge in the corner and goes back to the kicks, downing Swagger with a dropkick. Swagger catches Yoshi off the ropes, but Yoshi turns the back suplex into a bulldog for a two count. Yoshi sends Swagger into the corner and hits the high knee. Rolling snapmare out of the corner, but Swagger ducks the kick and goes for a pin, but Yoshi drops down for a two count. Yoshi heads up top, Swagger leaps up and gets thrown down and Yoshi hits a huge missile dropkick for a two count. Swagger rolls up Yoshi quickly for a near fall and the drills Yoshi with a clothesline to the back of the head. Swagger lifts up Yoshi up and rams him into the corner before hitting an Oklahoma Slam. Swagger goes to the opposite corner and hits a Vader Bomb for a two count! Swagger yells at the ref and brings up Yoshi by the head, but Yoshi connects with the roundhouse kick to the head out of nowhere! Yoshi covers Swagger and gets the three count at 14:20.
Winner: Yoshi Tatsu
Match Rating: ***1/4 This was an exceptional match between these two and would love to see a rematch.

Morrison and Punk don't need it but I would think that Chavo, Matt Hardy and Mark Henry will get involved in this tournament.
Maybe even RVD for a one shot deal

Maybe looking awesome in defeat will give Swagger a well deserved re-push.

Oh Noes! WWE is sour on Swagger cuz he done lost two nights in a row. It don't matter that they were both fantastic matches, the IWC said they wuz sour on Swagger so it MUST be true!!!

Swagger should have stayed in ECW anyway. There's no way he'll be able to elevate on Raw (Smackdown, possibly) until WWE either loses faith in their current main eventers or if someone decides to retire. This applies to MVP as well.

Good show, impressed me.
Am I the only person in the world who likes Croft and Barretta? People shit all over them, and I'll admit they're alittle annoying, but they arent as bad as everyone makes out.

The video for Swagger was great. They need to find some way to use that on Raw. He really looked like the competitor he can be. Hopefully they decide to do something with him.

Naw, in-ring skill is near the bottom of the list of reasons for the WWE to push a guy. Ass-kissing and merchandise sales are at the top though.

That main event was sweet, great show this week.

Was it just me or did Swagger give tribute to Dreamer on his last charge at Yoshi in the corner?
Posted By: Doc (Guest) on December 23, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Please take this show off the air.

Main event was good, but made me wonder they can't have Swagger like this on RAW where he gets to show off his skills?
And poor Tommy doesn't even get a sendoff, just jobs to Ryder.

Well, TV time doesn't equate to a push up the ladder. If that were true, Santino and Chavo would be main eventing for the WWE title right now.
Swagger did have two good matches this week, but it remains to be seen if it leads to anywhere. The guy has potential, but that really means nothing in WWE right now.
They could have a different looking Main Event that would be more entertaining, but they keep killing pushes for guys right when they get interesting, like Pink, Matt Mardy, MVP, Swagger.
Hey. Cena and DX sell shirts. That's all that matters. Little People's Court segments mean more to WWE than actual wrestling, and that's just the way it is. It still get's ratings in the 3's.
As for ECW, good show last night. I never thought Swagger should have been moved from ECW, because there's nothing for him on RAW. Yet Sheamus gets moved over in a quick mega push and is champ. Go figure.
Not saying he's bad, but damm. It seems like this is WWE's pathetic attempt to shut up the critics by making a new champion, when there are so many more deserving than him.
I know some are saying drop ECW, but I'm for keeping it around.

Crazy to think how a year ago Swagger was the bomb on ECW, just tearing it up.
After Monday and Tuesday, I really do think WWE has some faith in him. Afterall, why would they let him take Cena to the limit when the week before Cena dominated Randy Orton & CM Punk, if they had no plans.
Even Sheamus at TLC didn't have that much offense. I am holding out hope Swagger gets a nice push during 2010.. I like the guy

Like every ECW mainstay, Tommy left ECW in March 2001 when it went bankrupt. All ECW fans thank him for his efforts in this promotion.
After this show, he just left a promotion that happens to share the same name as ECW. I guess after the original ECW had folded, he had to make a living, so he went with a promotion based in Connecticut. Don't blame him, but I guess he's had enough.
All the best for the future Tommy!

Swagger's matches always have some nice counter and reversal sequences. He could turn into a great worker. He already has good matches with anybody he faces. Now he needs some decent storylines, instead of just showing up and giving the same generic promo about how great he is.
I wonder if Archer injured something. The finish came out of nowhere and it looked like his hand or arm was bothering him afterwards.
Trent Baretta is growing on me. He's been carrying the team in the ring and seemed pretty comfortable on the mic.
