411's ECW on SyFy Report 1.19.10
Posted by Michael Bauer on 01.19.2010
Christian gears up for facing Big Zeke by going against William Regal once again.
Welcome to the ECW on SyFy! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.
We open with a highlight package for last week's ECW Homecoming Battle Royal, with all the eliminations being shown. Pretty well done.
After the opening video, we find out our main event tonight is Christian taking on William Regal… again.
We then go to Tony Atlas for the Abraham Washington… with special guest host Santino Marella?? And his guest is Vladimir Kozlov?? Oh god, this has fail written all over this. Santino tries to do his best Washington impression and gets a "Laugh" flashing on the Titantron. Santino gets Tony to speak Italian, with pretty bad results. That was painful. He then brings out Vladimir Kozlov and they firmly shakes hands. He tells Kozlov to relax on the couch, since they are in American. Santino was happy to have an immigrant on his show, but Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, and The Great Khali were busy. Kozlov agrees with Santino that he isn't that popular and he starts talking about being in biker gang for three years until someone ran over his face. Santino asks about coming to America and Kozlov says people are scared of him because they think he is Ivan Drago from Rocky IV. Santino tries to get Kozlov to do impressions of Ivan and I think he did. Santino asks what he likes about America. Kozlov like Chili Cheese Fries, Hanna Montana (seriously?), and 24 hour Walmarts. Santino says they have lots in common and wants to become a tag team, but Kozlov says no. The crowd doesn't think it is a good idea either. Santino finally ends the show and I swear, I want Abraham back.
Backstage, Yoshi and Goldust are walking to the ring.
Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust vs. Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft
The bell rings and Goldust starts with Croft and Goldust sends him off the ropes and hits a dropkick. Goldust takes him down with an arm wrench, but Croft slides off and tags in Trent. Goldust gets a tag to Yoshi and lies Trent on his back, allowing Yoshi to hit s rolling senton onto the chest. Yoshi hits a series of dropkicks and Trent bails. Yoshi fakes the dive and leaps over the leg pick, before kicking Trent. Croft with a distraction and Trent trips up Yoshi. Back inside, Croft gets a tag and locks in a headlock. Yoshi is up and uses his kicks to escape, but Croft blocks Yoshi from a tag. Trent tags in and gets a quick nearfall before going back to the headlock. Yoshi to his feet and he punches out until Trent levels him with a forearm. Yoshi whipped to the corner and rent hits a springboard back elbow. Trent stomps across the face of Yoshi and brings him to his feet. Yoshi wails away, but gets blocked from a tag. Yoshi sent off the ropes and hits a spinning heel kick. Goldust and Croft get tags and Goldust goes to town on Croft with a series of clotheslines. Croft shoves off Goldust, but Goldust comes out of the corner and leaps over. Croft walks right into a powerslam and gets a two count as Trent breaks it up. Yoshi sends Trent to the floor as the ref tries to get Yoshi out as Goldust rolls up Croft.. Trent rolls back in and nails Goldust with a clothesline, allowing Croft to rolls up Goldust and get the three count.
Winners: Trent Barretta and Caylen Croft
Match Rating: * That was pretty bad. Nothing impressive at all.
Backstage, Zack Ryder and Rosa Mendes are walking towards the ring for a huge announcement from Ryder.
Back from the break and Ryder is on his way out to the ring with Rosa Mendes. Zack has the microphone and reminds us all that ended Tommy Dreamer's career to make himself the heart and soul of ECW. Hurricane got in his way and can't keep up with him. Ryder then calls himself the new "Heart and Soul Superhero" of ECW. He then calls in Savannah to introduce him as such to the ECW crowd. He wants her to do it like she is proud to say it. After a second time, Rosa grabs a microphone and tells her how stupid and horrible she is in Spanish (which really is very close to English) until The Hurricane comes out to chase off Ryder. He goes out to give a kiss to the hand of Savannah as we cut to another commercial.
Back from the break and we get Royal Rumble hype, talking about Sheamus vs. Randy Orton, Christian vs. Big Zeke, and Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio before mentioning the Royal Rumble itself.
We then go into the new rivalry between Shelton Benjamin and Vance Archer, starting three weeks ago on Superstars, when Archer was DQed. Now, they meet again on Superstars. Ad not on ECW why?
Non Title Match: ECW Champion Christian vs. William Regal
Fast fact: This is the first match for Christian or William Regal on ECW in six weeks.
Christian's entrance happens at 10:40. That should be a good sign for what has been a pretty crappy show so far. We go to commercial as he hits the ring.
Back from the break and her comes Regal, with Big Zeke in tow. Big Zeke and Christian have a stare down until the ref gets between them. The bell rings and they lockup as Christian gets backed into the corner. Regal gives a clean break and they lockup again and Regal gets a knee to the gut and brings down Christian with an arm wrench, going after the fingers. Christian gets up and reverses, taking down Regal by the arm. Regal gets up and takes Christian down with a headlock, getting a nearfall. Christian with a monkey flip after both men go to a Greco-Roman knuckle lock. Christian gets a nearfall and both men continue to counter each other. Regal locks in Christian with a submission than made me think he would do a Russian legsweep. Christian gets to the ropes and is whipped off. Christian ducks under Regal and hits a back body drop. Regal goes to the floor and Christian hits the baseball slide. Regal rolled back into the ring and Christian gets distracted by Big Zeke and they stare down again as we go to commercial at 4:30.
Back at 8:30 and we get highlights of Christian hitting a cross body. Christian backs Regal into the corner and hits a few shoulders. Regal whipped across, but Christian delays for a second or two and Regal is able to get the boot up. Regal locks in Christian in a Full Nelson and Christian nearly low blows Regal. Christian tries a backslide, but Regal kicks the calf to escape and then follows with a shot to the back of the head. Christian gets drilled with a back elbow after coming off the ropes for a two count. Regal locks in a sleeper hold and Christian is up. Christian ducks a short arm clothesline, but runs right into a forearm and Regal gets another two count. Back to the headlock for Regal and Christian is up again. Christian punches out and tries for the Killswitch, but Regal slips out and nails an Exploder Suplex. Christian crawls to the corner and Regal goes to the floor to kicks Christian's head into the ring post. Regal slides back in and gets a nearfall before again going to the headlock. Christian someone gets an inside cradle for two. Christian throws some wild shots and nails a forearm. Regal sent to the corner and Christian hits a tornado DDT for a two count. Christian looks to shake out the cobwebs and follows with a missile dropkick from the second rope, but Regal dodges the one from the top rope. Regal misses the knee trembler and Christian rolls him up for two. Christian sends Regal to the corner and goes for the springboard sunset flip, but Regal rolls through and kicks Christian in the head. Christian sent to the corner, but he gets the boot up and hits a diving back elbow. Christian lines up the Killswitch, but Regal shoves him off and gets dumped to the outside for his troubles. Jackson runs in and nails Christian in the back of the head to draw the DQ at 16:00.
Winner: Christian by DQ
Match Rating: ***1/2 Really good match here as these two worked very well together again. The DQ made sense here and even that went off well.
Afterwards, Big Zeke keeps the pain coming and pounds away as Regal lines up and connects with the knee trembler. Big Zeke then lifts up Christian and drills him to the mat twice with the one arm slam as he stands tall to end the broadcast.
The opening was beyond brutal!! I would like to be the first to predict Kozlov being released this week.

i love byron saxton constantly saying zeke will beat christian at the royal rumble because i agree with him and to keep pointing the thought out there adds more drama.

Time for Goldust to go to Smackdown and feud with Taker for the belt. That would be awesome and Goldust deserves that run after his recent 'greatness'.

Just to be picky, Regal looked rather out of shape and pretty winded by the end of the match.
Good match though. Christian needs to move onward and upward in WWE.

Wow, I thought Santino would make it a better segment, I guess I was wrong

The "Laurinitus" plug by Santino was great but that was still an epic fail.

Regal and Christian put on a clinic. Better than every match on TNA's PPV.

I just want to say the first match wasn't that bad .....at least **. Decent show overall minus the Abraham Washington show. Nice try Santino, but as always Tony Atlas was hilarious. Lol

Epic Fail

How do you say 'future endeavors' in Russian?

I agree. Not only that but The Natural Goldust should win the rumble and also end the streak

After that show, I really have high hopes for Christian/Jackson at the Rumble.

Ugh, not a good episode of ECW this week. Once Santino came out and hey annoucned Zack had to make some "announcement", it was channel-flipping time. Pretty bad when it makes you yearn for Abraham Washington himself.

I have no Idea how the hell you rated the first match a 1 star. I would say three, for its contstant action with different spots all around the entire ring. I suppose the main reason you gave it the one star was simply because croft/barreta were in it though.

Does "coming down with gastro-Laurinaitis" mean that Abe was future endeavored? That segment was brutal. I think the goal was to revamp Koslov as a comedic face and the crowd was supposed to want them to form a team. TNA's four-sided ring got a better reaction.
On the upside, it's always worth tuning in when they let Regal beat the ever-loving crap out of somebody.

I just finished watching the first segment on Youtube, and I think the problem is people still haven't gotten used to Vladimir's face turn. Hell, most of them probably didn't know he turned! It was on ECW, you know.

Thanks for the good recap--will check out the Regal-Christian match.
Now if only they could get you, a competent, interesting writer, to do the Smackdown recap...
