Plus the Briscoes MAN UP!, Stevens bulls over Bravado and Delirious and Sonjay settle their rivalry.
Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak welcome us to the show where we have the final Pick Six Contenders Series, this time between Jay and Mark Briscoe. Prazak chooses Briscoe as the winner. These two have had some stellar matches in the past, so let's hope this lives up to them
Submission Match: Delirious w/Daizee Haze vs. Sonjay Dutt
Delirious wastes no time taking the action to Dutt and hits a series of backhand slaps before biting him. Dutt escapes with a knee to the gut and hits an elbow in the corner, whips Deli cross-corner but runs into a clothesline. The masked man hits another clothesline, a pair of suplexes and a neckbreaker. Deli tries to go for the Cobra Strech early, while Mike says that "You just don't put your hands on another man's woman." No, you shouldn't "put your hands" on any woman. Unless she's into that sort of thing. Giggidy. He also makes the faux-pas of calling the Cobra Clutch a "headlock". I mean, yeah it is, but you don't hear Michael Cole call the West Coast Pop a headscissors. Action goes outside where Deli continues to take control, and smothers him with a fans hat. DON'T PUT IT BACK ON! You'll get backne! Or cooties according to Prazak and I swear I am not making that up.
Back inside and Deli clearly says "submission tradition" which makes me laugh. He goes to work on Dutt's arm and hits a flatliner. Prazak puts over Sonjay's Camel Clutch by saying it injured Daizee Haze. Wow, what an accomplishment. Sonjay comes back with kicks and hits the seesaw kick in the corner. He goes to the Naomichi Marufuji playbook with a dragon screw in the ropes. He ties up the legs in the ropes and hits slingshot quebrada. Shinbreaker to dragon screw to Half Bombay Crab. Deli gets the ropes and Dutt starts to play to the fans. He tries to rip the mask off with little success. He tries a backdrop suplex but Deli flips behind him, and hurts his leg! Awesome! He fights off with headbutts and tries to counter a shinbreaker with a sunset flip but can't get it on right. He counters the Asai DDT to what I'll call a fisherman faceplant and goes back to the Cobra Stretch, which Hogewood says he is known for. Then why didn't you know Hog?
Dutt escapes the hold with elbows and plays possum to make Deli try for Shadows Over Hell, and then shoves him to the floor flat on his back. Wow, a logical reason for somebody to switch from legwork to backwork? Say it ain't so. He powers Sonjay into the ring apron and then starts driving his knee into the back. Deli hits a big headbutt and charges into the corner but Dutt works in the Tarantula, which is both cool and logical. He starts choking Deli with his tassels and Daizee tries to get him to stop, so Sonjay shoves her off and she takes a man-sized bump into the rail. He hits a Jig ‘N' Tonic on Deli to set up for the camel clutch, but decides not to and sets him up top. And now we get the kneeling muscle buster. Again he decides not to go for the Camel Clutch, and he gets a steel chair. Paul Turner takes it away (which doesn't really make sense since it's a submission match), but that allows Daizee to hit a big dropkick to a huge pop! COBRA CLUTCH SUPLEX! Cobra Clutch in a Camel Clutch positon by Delirious and Dutt taps out. Great finish to a much that far exceeded my expectations. Winner: Delirious (via Cobra/Camel Clutch hybrid) ***1/4
Now we get hype for Colt Cabana & Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries & Kenny King. Wow this card is pretty stacked for a TV taping.
Austin Aries cuts a promo from Final Battle, saying that for sixty minutes Tyler was great but he wasn't the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived. He says he's proved he's a fighting champion and tells Cornette to keep sending the Pick Six guys after him.
The Briscoes say that there will be no going after the eyes, nuts, or Mark's knee, and the winner buys the beer.
Pick Six Contender's Match: Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Briscoe
The Briscoes are already in the ring so we don't have to see them without their titles. Jay gets a body drag and Mark takes him down for some awesome amateur wrestling. Jay grabs a wristlock but Mark manages to take control with various fireman's carries. They continue to jockey around with no-one getting a clear-cut advantage. They go to the Greco-Roman Knucklelock and trade monkey flips but Jay catches Mark with a guillotine choke when he floats over. Mark gets the ropes and they clap hands. They do a much more animated series of dodges than the typical leapfrog stuff before Mark hits a spinning wheel kick. Jay hits a chop and Mark hits a few forearms, but Jay connects with a hurracanrana and a back elbow for two. They start trading chops before Jay gets an elbow, and he whips Mark to the corner, hits a clothesline, snapmares him and comes back with a sliding big boot for two. They trade more strikes and Jay hits a dropkick for two. Mark avoids a vertical suplex and hits his side exploder suplex.
Mark hits a series of strikes and his own vertical suplex for two. Chops follow and Mark hits a gutwrench suplex and a senton for two. He applies the figure-four headscissors and Jay gets the ropes. Huge forearm exchange and Mark hits a knee to the gut, Jay avoids a backdrop suplex and connects with the flatliner into the turnbuckle. He kicks Mark to the floor and hits a somersault pescado. Back inside Jay tries a crossbody but takes a dropkick. Jay sends Mark to the corner and Mark rebounds off the buckle and hits a forearm. Mark connects with a belly-to-belly and applies a body scissors. Jay escapes and they trade strikes, Jay tries the death valley driver but Mark escapes, can't hit a Dragon Suplex but hits a Fisherman's Buster. Jay goes to the floor and Mark hits the Whisper in the Wind. They start trading strikes on the floor, and then on the apron, and Sinclair counts them both out. Seriously? Well, Jim Cornette comes out and says he can overrule the referee's decision, but he can restart this match so we can have a winner.
They start trading forearms and Jay tries to hit the flatliner into the turnbuckle again but Mark avoids it, Jay hits an elbow and goes to the second rope, and Mark hits a palm strike. Mark goes up top but JAY HITS THE ACE CRUSHER! Didn't see that one coming. It only gets two and Jay tries the Jay Driller, but Mark counters to a backslide for two. A schoolboy gets two more and Jay hits a superkick. Jay hits a corner clothesline and Mark hits a big dropkick. DRAGON SUPLEX! 1…2…NO! Cutthroat Driver? No, Jay escapes, counters a side-exploder and gets a bizarre roll-up for three! Winner: Jay Briscoe (via outside cradle) ***1/2
We get a recap of Erick Stevens joining The Embassy, and Prince Nana introduces him next.
Erick Stevens w/The Embassey vs. Harlem Bravado
Handshake, belly-to-belly suplex, Choo-Choo, Lariat, Doctor Bomb, Slap the Porpoise. He adds another lariat after the match for good measure. Winner: Erick Steves (via Doctor Bomb) DUD
Now we get a promo from Black, who is still trying to put himself over after the Final Battle fiasco. He's young, he wants the title, yadda yadda.
Colt Cabana & Tyler Black vs. ROH World Champion Austin Aries & Kenny King
Aries tights are sponsored by Halls Fruit Breezers tonight. He controls early with a headlock but gets thrown off and reverse monkey flipped by Cabana. The faces play pin-pong but Aries rakes Colt's eyes and tags in King. Kenny runs into an armdrag and Tyler is tagged in, hitting a double axe handle to the arm. He tags back out to Cabana, who controls Kenny with a wristlock. He keeps spinning Kenny away from Aries and then lets him tag in and they have a collision. Tyler really wants a piece of Aries. Aries hits a few blows and tags back out, but Cabana hits both guys with hip block takeovers and we get a complicated sequence that ends with Colt clotheslining Kenny to the floor and then helping Tyler clothesline Aries to the floor. Tyler tags in and hits a stomp on Kenny, slams him and teases the stalled stomp but just knocks Aries off the apron instead. He grabs a side headlock and Kenny knocks him off, Aries drags Tyler to the floor but Black reverses and sends him into the barricade. Tyler hits the springboard clothesline for two on Kenny.
He drives Kenny into a bionic elbow from Colt and Cabana tags in. Tyler whips Kenny into a kick to the top of the hand from Cabana and Colt starts dodging punches and hitting his own jabs. He ducks a clothesline but Aries trips him up when he goes for the Asai moonsault. Kenny tags out and Aries hits a double axe handle on Colt. He rakes his boots across Cabana's face and his fingers across Cabana's chest, and then rakes Colt's eyes across the rope before tagging back out. Hogewood talks about Aries slithering around the ring and Prazak mockingly asks if he thinks the Champion is a "Viper". Vintage. Kenny and Aries hit the leapfrog body splash that the World's Greatest Tag Team used to do. Now it's Aries turn and he changes it to a double axe-handle. He applies an armbar and then pulls Colt's singlet to bring him down to the mat when he tries to tag out. Kenny hits the slingshot legdrop for two.
Kenny hits a few strikes and a flying back elbow in the corner on Colt. He dances and hits a clothesline, dances some more and eats a lariat from Cabana. Aries tags in and prevents the tag by knocking Tyler to the floor, but Colt hits an inverted atomic drop, ducks a clothesline and tags out to Black. Black whales on Aries, lands on his feet when he tries a dropkick and Aries avoids it, hits a backdrop on Aries and one on Kenny. He tries the F-5 but Aries avoids it, Aries tries to send him to the floor but Tyler lands on the apron, tries the springboard lariat but Aries ducks and Kenny catches him, but Black hits a DDT when King tries the Royal Flush. Great sequence there and Cabana takes out the heels with the Asai Moonsault!
Tyler follows with a somersault plancha and gets two on Aries in the ring. Aries prevents the Buckle Bomb with a rana but YOU CAN'T KICK OUT OF A BLACK SCHOOLBOY! No, it doesn't have the same ring to it, but it always works. Cabana tags in and hits Aries with the Flying Asshole, Tyler knocks King to the floor and hits a forearm, and sends him into another butt-butt from Cabana that gets two. Kenny saves Aries from the Colt .45 and hits the Capoeira Kick and a spinebuster, ROCKET LAUNCHER! Colt kicks out of Aries pin! Aries whips Kenny into the double knees on Colt and follows with the Impact Explosion Dropkick. Colt kicks out of the coital pin, LAST CHANCERY! Black emphatically makes the save and trades punches with King, Kenny hits another Capoeira Kick but Black hits the spinning enzugiri. He avoids the kick to the head from Aries and BUCKLE BOMB! Kenny prevents the Superkick and tags in, and he and Aries try the Spike Piledriver but Cabana backdrops Kenny onto the ropes and trips up Aries! INVERTED COLT .45 ON KING and Cabana gets the win! Winner: Colt Cabana & Tyler Black (via Inverted Colt .45 on King) ***3/4
This was really good. No insanely good matches but three very good matches made this a terrific show.
