Rey Mysterio calls out the Undertaker, and Big Dave does not approve! Elsewhere, CM Punk saved another soul, John Morrison continued his feud with Drew McIntyre and the build to the Royal Rumble continued and more! Check out 411’s complete WWE Smackdown report for all the details!
01.22.10
> Smackdown starts with a recap of last week's match between Rey Mysterio and Batista. Transitions into the main event of tonight: Rey Mysterio calling out the Undertaker.
> Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcome us to the show, letting us know the Royal Rumble is only nine days away. They go over some of the card which includes a handicap match where John Morrison takes on Chris Jericho and Drew McIntyre.
> Batista's music plays and he's out in wrestling attire. He points his thumbs in his direction and the lights go out, increasing the spotlight's effect. Finlay (who is still using Hornswoggle music) is Batista's opponent. It seems like the Irishman has been away for a while. I wonder where he's been.
Match One
Finlay v. Batista
They circle the ring. Finlay goes at Batista with a grapple and Dave sends him into the corner. Ref separates them. Batista poses but Finlay attacks him. Punches and headbutts for a while from Finlay. Batista interrupts him with a knee. Batista sends Finlay into the corner but he runs into Finlay's boot. Finlay climbs the turnbuckle and comes down with a double leg dropkick. Pinfall gets a two count.
Rolling fireman's carry from Finlay to Big Dave. Another two count. Finlay follows that up with his senton. He kicks Batista in the head causing the Animal to fall out of the ring. Finlay follows and Batista puts his fingers into the eyes of Finlay. Ref rings the bell for a DQ.
WINNER: Finlay
> After the match, Batista takes out Finlay. He throws him over the announce table and eventually spears him. After the spear, he guides Finlay into the security barrier. He continues the assault by sending Finlay's back into the ring post twice. Big Dave eventually sends Finlay back inside the ring. Striker goes over the disqualification and we get some highlights of the post-match beatdown.
Inside the ring, Batista takes Finlay out with a spinebuster. He grabs a mic and says what happened right now to Finlay will be multiplied by 29 at the Royal Rumble. Batista says he's going to get his title back. He'll win the Royal Rumble and go on to end the streak at Wrestlemania.
> Rey Mysterio is calling the Undertaker out tonight says a graphic and Todd Grisham.
> CM Punk is out, I'm assuming we're about to get treated to another saving session. Luke Gallows is with Punk and they have their steel chair-shaving kit combo with them. The announcers remind us that Punk and Gallows won the number one contendership for the Unified Tag Titles last week. Punk stops at the stage to speak to us. There's a reason he and Gallows became number one contenders. There is a reason the Straight Edge Society will restore the dignity of the Tag Team titles when they beat DX next week on Smackdown. Punk tells us the reason is their straight edge lifestyle. Not only will being straight edge get Punk a share of the Unified Tag Titles, it will allow Punk to win the Royal Rumble. He calls an old man a coward. The WWE Universe hides behind cans of beers and cartons of cigarettes according to CM Punk. Fans tell CM Punk he sucks. Punk says that he can save each and every last one of the WWE Universe. But only if they pledge allegiance to the Straight Edge Society. He asks the crowd who is going to be saved. Some female fan runs up to CM Punk. Gallows tells security to DO THEIR JOB and they take the fan away.
But she tells Punk she needs him. CM Punk tells security to let the young lady go and commands Luke to retrieve her. She tells Punk she needs him when she gets inside the ring. Punk says he sees a lifetime of pain and suffering in her eyes. He asks her name and she says she's Serena. Punk asks Serena if she's an addict. She says she is but she's sorry. She wants to change. Punk says it's okay. He knows that she's like the rest of the WWE Universe Losers. Waiting in line for her next pill, sitting at her mundane job waiting to get out and take a sip of alcohol. Serena goes over her dependency on pills but Punk assures he everything is okay. She's among friends. She used to be surrounded by enablers who didn't care, but CM Punk cares. Punk says it's one thing to pledge sobriety but it's another thing to draw an X on her first and pledge allegiance to one nation under Punk. Inspiring stuff. He has one more question for Serena. Is she ready? She says she's ready. Punk asks her to sit down and Gallows presents the chair for her. Punk asks Serena to raise her right hand. TO RAISE IT AND TOUCH THE SKY. Gallows does the same. He asks Serena to repeat the Straight Edge Pledge. She's pumped up, Gallows is pumped up and Punk lets Serena know that she never has to walk alone again. He asks Serena if she's ready to prove her devotion through actions. Serena says yes. Punk kisses her on the forehead and the shave is set.
But we have a commercial first. Striker welcomes us back to television that changes Friday Nights. Punk begins shaving Serena's head as Striker goes over the symbolism of the haircut. The fans seem shocked at Serena's decision but she's loving the shave. Punk eventually finishes the job and another Straight Edge soldier walks among us. Punk says what happened to Serena can happen to any of us sheep. He introduces us to another person who is better than the entire WWE Universe: Serena. CM Punk's music plays us to the end of the segment. We get highlights of the shaving. Striker says there is nothing between Serena's brain and the sky. Beautiful.
> Somebody is about to have their party ended early because Drew McIntyre is out. No clue how many times I've used that line. Grisham reminds us that McIntyre is undefeated and he will take his streak into next Friday against John Morrison in a No-DQ match. Jericho joins McIntyre after to complete their team. John Morrison and his slow-mo pyro grace us with their presence. Grisham wonders what Morrison's strategy is going to be. Striker says Morrison will have to isolate one of the guys from the other.
Teddy Long is out before the match can start. He asks the ref to wait before ringing the bell. He says Vickie Guerrero is Long's official consultant but didn't consult with him before making the match. Long says because of this, he's going to make it into a tag team match. John Morrison's partner is....R-Truth. Chris Jericho is not pleased with Long's decision.
Match Two
John Morrison and R-Truth v. Drew McIntyre and Chris Jericho
After the break, the ref rings the bell. John Morrison and Chris Jericho start off. They grapple with Jericho applying a chinlock. Morrison takes him into the ropes but Jericho comes back with a shoulderblock. He soaks in the crowd. He bounce s ff the ropes but falls into a Morrison hiptoss. Double legged dropkick from Morrison. Morrison tags in Truth and they double team Jericho with a hiptoss. They deliver a cheapshot to McIntyre but Jericho tries an attack. Morrison and Truth send Jericho out of the ring and the faces pose for the fans. Truth goes to the outside and slaps Jericho. He sends him back into the ring and wrenches the arm of Chris Jericho. He tags in John Morrison who climbs the turnbuckle. Morrison comes down with an ax handle to the wrenched arm. Morrison sends Jericho into the ropes but Jericho comes back with a boot to the face. Clothesline by Jericho. Jericho shoves Truth off but Morrison takes advantage with a leg lariat. Pinfall gets a two count.
Both men get up and Drew McIntyre grabs Morrison. Jericho dropkicks Morrison out of the ring. Ref checks up on Truth, who is still out of the ring. He starts counting Morrison out until Jericho takes his attention. McIntyre cheap shots Morrison. Morrison gets into the ring and Jericho takes him out with a back body drop. He slaps Morrison in the head and tags in Drew McIntyre. McIntyre kicks Morrison in the ribs and then lifts him. He sends him into the corner and works him over with a kick and multiple punches. McIntyre picks Morrison up by the hair and takes him out with a huge clothesline. He covers and gets a two. Jericho tells Matt Striker and Todd Grisham to tell us that Drew McIntyre is the definition of a champion.
The Champion has the arm of Morrison tangled in his legs. He gives up the hold and stomps on John Morrison. Morrison gets some offense in the form of punches but McIntyre boots him to the mat. McIntyre tags in Chris Jericho who comes in with a kick to Morrison's face. Morrison tries a tag but Jericho takes the arm. He transitions that into a rear chinlock Morrison gets to his knees and punches Chris Jericho. Morrison bounces off the ropes and takes Jericho out with the backbreaker-Russian Legsweep combination. Jericho tags in McIntyre who prevents Morrison from tagging in R-Truth. He stomps Morrison to send us to a commercial break.
We return to see Morrison get to his knees after a hold on the left arm. Morrison tries to elbow out of the hold with the right elbow and takes McIntyre to the mat with an arm drag. McIntyre charges Morrison into the corner but Morrison puts a boot up. Morrison charges McIntyre but that gets turned into a backbreaker. Cover gets a two count.
McIntyre mounts Morrison and throws a ton of punches. McIntyre tags in Chris Jericho who sends the back of John Morrison's head into the mat. Jericho taunts R-Truth for a while before giving his attention back to Morrison. Vertical Suplex from Jericho to Morrison. Jericho signals the end of the match is near He chokes Morrison with the ropes and McIntyre adds in a boot for more pain. Jericho kicks Morrison in the head for a bit and then taunts R-Truth. He kicks Morrison in the ribs and then takes him into the corner. He positions Morrison on top of the ropes and then punches him in the head. Jericho joins him up stairs and tries a superplex. Morrison holds on to the top rope and punches Jericho to the mat. Crossbody from Morrison to Jericho. Cover gets a two count.
Morrison tries to tag in Truth but Jericho holds the leg. Morrison continues his attempt but Jericho keeps the leg in his grasp. Jericho sends Morrison to the mat for the Walls of Jericho but Morrison shoves Jericho off. Jericho tags in McIntyre who comes in and cuts Morrison off from making the tag. McIntyre clubs Morrison across the chest. Snap Suplex by McIntyre. Pinfall and a two count.
Morrison punches McIntyre in the ribs but McIntyre takes him down. McIntyre tags in Jericho who comes in and throws an elbow pad in Morrison's face. He steps on the chest of John Morrison and tags in his tag team partner. McIntyre stomps Morrison in the ribs and sends him against the ropes. Morrison maneuvers his way into a nice DDT onto the Intercontinental Champion. Both men make the tag. Truth bounces off the ropes and nails Jericho with a clothesline. He follows that up with a sequence of punches. Jericho sends Killings into the ropes but Truth dances his way out and into a big boot on Jericho. Pinfall is broken up at two by McIntyre. Morrison takes McIntyre out of the equation and Jericho sends Morrison out of the ring. Quick rollup by R-Truth gets a two count enziguri from Jericho to R-Truth. Jericho pins but the ref is distracted Jericho gets up and runs into a Morrison boot. Ax Kick by R-Truth. Pinfall by Truth gets the match for the faces.
WINNERS: John Morrison and R-Truth
> Matt Striker expresses his disgust after the match as Morrison and Truth celebrate in the ring.
> We see a Rey Mysterio moment and then another graphic for the main event segment.
> We're back with Layla and Michelle McCool in the ring. They are in the middle of a ring filled up with a table and food. Apparently a match between Mickie James and Michelle McCool was scheduled for the Royal Rumble. Unfortunately, it got canceled. Michelle McCool says Piggy James is done with Smackdown. Apparently everything in the ring is for James' Goodbye Party. They look at the table and its contents. Two pig cakes, but before they can continue, they get interrupted by Maria.
Maria gets in the ring and calls Team LayCool annoying. She asks the WWE Universe if they agree. They do. Maria says the taunting of Mickie James ends tonight. She says the only people who should be leaving Smackdown are Layla and McCool. The ladies taunt Maria but still pimp the hell out of the Celebrity Apprentice. Maria calls them morons and Mickie James is out. James is tired of the petty and childish junk. She has dealt with people like Team LayCool her whole life so she has experience or something. James says she is what a real women looks like. She gives Maria as an example as well. James says she hasn't allowed the teasing to hurt her and the going away party won't make her go away. James says she will be at the Royal Rumble and says it's time she embarrasses her. She punches Layla and then McCool Maria joins in on the action and it continues for a while until Phoenix enters the scene. She struggles with her decision who to help and eventually attacks Maria. She turns her attention to Mickie James and the three women continue the beatdown. McCool grabs a mic and says it's feeding time for Piggy James. She grabs the pig from the cake and stuff it into Mickie's mouth. McCool grabs a bowl of punch and dumps the contents onto James' head. James is in the ring crying by herself and we get treated to some highlights of the segment.
> It's Cryme Tyme Time. I wonder if they're going to tie up with The Hart Dynasty again? That gets dispelled quickly as Mike Knox and Charlie Haas are in the ring waiting for them.
Match Three
Cryme Tyme v. Mike Knox and Charlie Haas
Mike Knox and JTG start the match off. They grapple. Knox gets a knee and then a club to the back of JTG. He sends JTG into the corner but JTG avoids the charge and brings Knox to the mat with a facebuster. Knox tags in Haas. Haas throws a punch but JTG blocks it. JTG punches Haas and then whips him into the ropes. He charges Haas but Haas puts up a boot.
Kane's music plays and JTG attacks him. Kane sends JTG to the outside. Haas charges Kane and Haas experiences the same result. Knox and Gaspard attack Kane and Kane sends both of them to the outer limits of the ring. Kane does his pyro pose and Striker discusses the Royal Rumble. I guess JTG and Gaspard win since Kane attacked JTG first.
WINNERS: Cryme Tyme...?
> Video of last week's steel cage match between Batista and Rey Mysterio.
> The push to the Royal Rumble continues with a run down of the card. Check out 411mania.com for all of your Royal Rumble needs and desires.
> The Great Khali is out now. He's with Matt Hardy for tag team action. Striker calls The Great Khali the odds-on favorite to win the Royal Rumble. After a commercial break, the Hart Dynasty make their entrances.
Match Four
Matt Hardy and The Great Khali v. The Hart Dynasty
Matt Hardy and Tyson Kidd start off. Kidd wrenches Hardy's arm but Hardy reverses that and takes Kidd to the mat. Kidd kips up but Hardy is there with a clothesline. Early pinfall gets a one. Kidd takes Hardy into the heel corner and tags in Smith. They do a double team spot with Kidd legdropping Hardy. Outside, Smith bangs Hardy's back against the apron. He sends Hardy back inside the ring and it's time for a stalling vertical suplex. Smith covers and it gets a one.
Smith attacks Hardy's neck and applies a chinlock. Hardy gets to his feet and punches Smith. Smith immediately knees him. He follows that up with a body slam attempt that Hardy squirms out of. Hardy goes against the ropes and comes back with the Side Effect. Kidd whispers something to Natalya and she nears The Great Khali. She touches his chest and grabs his arm and takes him away. Back inside, Kidd nails hardy in the head. They set Hardy up for the Hart Attack but Hardy pushes Smith against the ropes, causing Kidd to fall mid-springboard. Hardy rolls Smith up and gets the win for his team.
WINNERS: Matt Hardy and Kane
> Khali and Hardy celebrate after the match. We get a video footage of the finish and the two teams stare
each other down after.
> Rey Mysterio is seen walking backstage. Grisham lets us know the main event segment is next.
> Mysterio makes a long entrance. Striker and Grisham go over some of Mysterio's accolades including his World Title run. Mysterio grabs a microphone and says he's heard all day about his decision to call out the Undertaker. Mysterio says he did it because the Undertaker is the only thing standing in the way of him living his dream. He wants to call Taker out, look him in the eyes and tell him that he isn't afraid. He calls the Undertaker out.
Taker's gong strikes, the lights go out and Taker makes his grand entrance. Taker finally gets in the ring. He asks Rey if he has any second thoughts. Mysterio says he is but he's standing his own ground. Mysterio says he had him beat the last time they fought. He's willing to do what it takes to win. Batista won't be interfering in the match, neither will Shawn Michaels (?). Mysterio says he's conquered his nightmares because of his dreams and he will conquer the nightmare that is the Undertaker and become World Champion. Mysterio vows to win at the Royal Rumble.
Taker speaks. He says that those are bold words for a man of Mysterio's stature. He says Rey has made a career by doing the impossible. Rey has conquered everything in his life but there is one thing he will not conquer: The Undertaker. Taker admires Rey's gallantry but Mysterio is only digging his own grave. Rey Mysterio is going to suffer the same fate that everyone has suffered when they tried to make a name for themselves at the Undertaker's expense. At the Royal Rumble, Rey Mysterio will rest in peace. Taker's music plays and he leaves.
But as he's walking down the ramp, Mysterio calls his name. Taker no-sells him for a bit before finally stopping. Mysterio says he isn't like the rest. Out from behind is Batista. Batista nails a spinebuster and the Undertaker slowly walks to the ring. Batista nails a Batista Bomb and stares down with the Undertaker. Taker finally arrives at the ring and Batista bails. He hops the guardrail and exits the arena.

There may or may not have been a match between Dolph Ziggler and Jimmy Wang Yang. It made no appearance on my TV but it was in the Smackdown Spoilers.

The Truth and Morrison vs. Jericho and McIntyre match was FANTASTIC.

Holy promos night! Each one was good though so no complaints.

Very good show tonight. Punk's segment was tremendous again and the R-Truth/Morrison v. Jericho/McIntyre match was excellent.
The Rey/Taker segment wasn't bad but I just can't stand listening to Rey talk. He just sounds too much like an 8-year old when he cuts his promos, especially tonight.
I still wonder if they'll actually end up doing a triple threat after all with Batista's beat down of Rey tonight.

they seriously take advantage of jericho. one of the only "veterans" on the roster who will willingly job to anyone anytime for any reason. Somebody needs a win? Put them over Jericho. Not like he is the most valuable guy in the company or anything...

Wow...WWE is actually doing something constructive with the Divas. Pretty much blows any of the women related stuff on RAW or TNA for that matter right out of the water.
That Mickie James mock farewell thing was really well done. Michelle McCool has improved tremendously on her mic skills. Mickie seems more interesting than she has been in years. Beth's involvement is always good.
Now if only they can push Natalya. And that introduction of the new Diva Serena (who is a good worker) by CM Punk was cool.

Nice to see that angle involving the shaving of that woman bald is part of a serious angle and not turned into a joke (like what happened with Kurt Angle and Molly Holly).
Posted By: Guest#2774 (Guest) on January 22, 2010 at 10:51 PM
Michelle and Layla absolutely, completely, and utterly bombed with their heel act. They drew absolutely no heat whatsoever when they alone early in the segment, and even when Mickie was crying at the end, they barely got any heat at all before the crowd just ignored them and chanted for Mickie.
It was hilarious to see, although it if WWE was paying attention, they should be mortified that Michelle still isn't over after nearly three months of this angle.

Hard to find any serious fault in that Smackdown (unlike Martinez' worthless, zero-value-added transcripts). Good to great promos from Batista, Evil-Just-Say-No Jesus, Kane (in his own way), the Divas, and Rey-Taker. The Divas segment in particular needs some serious props, given how abysmal Diva-Knockout-land has been lately. They turned a dead crowd that could care less fully around with a compelling promo that started getting LayCool heat for the first time.
Morrison-Truth v. Jericho-McIntyre was just awesome. It was worrisome to see Truth come out to muddy the waters between three great wrestlers, but they played it out beautifully and long. This match more than made up for the general lack of wrestling time (as the show was taken up with hot promos).
It's a good thing when the only real complaints lie in a desire for more--I was sad to see those two tag team matches cut short, especially the Harts. Although the Khali-Nattie thing was enjoyable...

Awesome show.
Completely blew Impact out of the water.
WWE! WWE! WWE!

That diva segment was brutal. Seriously, the only one that showed any personality at all was Layla.
McCool is just so fucking boring no matter what she does. Maria sounded like a retard when she talked.
Mickie was the worst though. If she was supposed to be a sympathetic babyface, she failed. She sounded more cocky then the heels, her line readings were terrible. And her timing was the worst part of all. She screamed "look at me" when it was obvious McCool was staring right at her. McCool's response, "how can I miss you", was the only really good line in the segment.
And what was the point of Beth coming out? They finally have a chance to have a decent face character, and they just turn her heel again for no reason.
I hope McCool retains. If Mickie gets another useless title reign, this stupid feud just continues. Maybe McCool can sucker Mickie into putting her career on the line, and finally get the overrated one off my screen for good.
Posted By: Guest#3212 (Guest) on January 22, 2010 at 11:44 PM
I kinda like the Morrison-R-Truth combo. Both have that hybrid heavyweight-lightweight moveset with unorthodox spots. Could be a good tag team if given the chance.
Posted By: Guest#1904 (Guest) on January 22, 2010 at 11:49 PM
None of the divas can cut a decent promo to save their lives. Mickie still looks like an idiot. She keeps saying she isn't bothered by the insults, but yet every segment ends with her crying.
Posted By: Guest#4338 (Guest) on January 22, 2010 at 11:53 PM
i was thinking earlier. with the whole "jericho is kicked off raw, and big show has moved on" angle. i'm wondering if Y2J is going to win the Rumble, beat the raw champ, turn face, and fued with show over the belt. its the perfect way to keep them working together. and jericho is due for a good rivalry.

"TNA Who?"
Shut up. Watch both like everybody else that cracks lame jokes. Christ.
Posted By: Waaah (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:01 AM
They should make it a triple treat at the rumble, taker vs. mysterio vs. hornswoggle. mysterio can then possibly pin hornswoggle or maybe taker will murder hornswoggle (one can always dream!)
Posted By: R (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:03 AM
Adios Piggy. I hope they like overrated horse faces down in Nashville. Otherwise your music career is pretty much DOA. Maybe you can go back to doing grade Z porno shoots if all else falls through.
Posted By: Guest#4363 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:07 AM
Mickie is focusing more and more on her music, and has talked about leaving WWE for the past year. They are now doing an angle where Michelle wants to run her out of the company.
Come on people, this isn't hard to figure out. As New Jack likes to say in his shoots: "Do the fucking math".

Did RVD sign long-term, or is it just for the Rumble?
Posted By: RVD Fan (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:31 AM
That read like a good show, too bad I don't get that channel where I live. I guess I can watch it on Hulu tomorrow. Does Punk still have that gnarly beard?
Way better than that crap TNA, I don't like saying that either, I want them to do good, but I think they are mad at me or something, that is the only way to explain the nonsense that they have been making lately (forever?).
Posted By: Squid Vicious (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:58 AM
Michelle McCool is bad. She just doesn't have the charisma to pull off the role. It seems too forced. She did look really good in those pants though.
Posted By: Guest#2640 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 01:18 AM
I think I saw Mickie eating some of the cake after McCool left the ring.
Posted By: Guest#1476 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 01:29 AM
Anyone who thinks the diva stuff tonight was worthwhile is a moron. This angle has dragged on long enough.
I cannot imagine being one of the 2 female wrestling fans in the world and watching this. The constant basing of a thin woman for being fat is ludicrous. Even if Mickie wins one match at the end of all of this, it does not offset months of two untalented women bashing her for being overweight (which she is not). So can the whole "Its okay as long as the face wins in the end" argument.
Michelle is hideous, manly, and untalented. Layla is a useless parasite. All of the women involved (sans Beth) are boooring.
This angle is sending all the wrong messages, especially since the announcers do not bash the fat jokes, bur snicker at them. Michelle should be ashamed to be a part of this storyline.
Asinine, inane, and proof that Vince and co have the since of humor of a 5 year old.

"WINNERS: Matt Hardy and Kane", What show were you watching?
Posted By: Vampiro56 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 01:35 AM
I thought the beggining of the divas segment wasn't bad given usually the women sound bad on the mic, Layla and Michelle did pretty well
It seems like the best thing about smackdown is the mid-card. They constantly get a good 10-15 minutes to shine week in, week out.
Posted By: Guest#9928 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 02:08 AM
does anyone else think Mickie was looking orange tonight?
Posted By: Guest#0467 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 02:13 AM
Very boring imho.
Posted By: imhoman (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 02:20 AM
I'll be damned if Maria didn't cut one of the best promo's of her career tonight. I can't believe I just said that but its true. It's damn true.
Posted By: Dwayne (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 02:40 AM
You'll never break me
(Two minutes later)
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Posted By: Mickie James (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 03:06 AM
I have to say, I don't hate the girl, but you could see how ugly Mickie James is from tonight's segment. When she had the makeup running down her face at the end, she looked homely as hell. I'm not talking about the mascara running down her eyes. The rest of the face. How anybody can find her hot is beyond me. She's one of the worst looking women on the roster, with only Melina and Jillian beating her out.
Posted By: Guest#1832 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 03:09 AM
Mickie James spent the whole promo telling everyone she won't be broken by them, and then proceeded to end it crying like a baby. A walking contradiction.
Posted By: DB (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 03:45 AM
Joseph Fucking Martinez...u unsympathetic TNA Mark. You either rate the matches or go fellate Hulk Hogan.
Csonka, is it too much to ask for a better recapper? Maybe I can do it.
Posted By: DFickens (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 04:32 AM
Punk is surely ready to move back up to mean-event level - not that he deserved to be demoted in the first place, but his mic-work is too good to ignore now.
The Morrison/Truth tag match more than made-up for what was a promo-heavy show. But it's scary how popular R-Truth was, though his ring time was minimal.
How many weeks has it been since The Undertaker actually wrestled?
Posted By: Guest#1280 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 05:38 AM
why do people always bring up TNA on a WWE show? Insecure marks...
Posted By: Guest#6980 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 06:42 AM
I don't get the bitching about the Divas segment, I thought it was one of the strongest of recent times.
Posted By: Ryushinku (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 06:51 AM
Okay three suggestions that could make your report a little bit better (though you havnt done this year so Im not expecting anything):
1) Bold the winner of every match at the end.
2) Put the times of the matches.
3) Finish each match/segement with your own little recap, and maybe some "final thoughts".
A lot of readers here like reviews more than recaps and it would help those of us who cant watch Smackdown decide if it is worth hunting down any segments or matches on something like HULU.
As it stands, I cant visualize if any of this is worth watching besides what the commentors leave.

Great show. Strong promo by Taker and Mysterio, after Taker's fantastic one with Michaels on Monday. I like that, with WrestleMania on the horizon, the World Champ is fending off multiple challengers. It's got an organic real feel that WWE so often lacks.
Mickie's promo was pretty damn good as well except for her being on the verge of laughing everytime she caught McCool's eyes.
Strong show. Thumbs up.

After what I saw on Smackdown, I predict that at the Royal Rumble, Mickey James will beat McCool for the Womens title. Mickey knows McCools two weakness, one is McCool and Layla don't like when someone gets the last laugh on them, and two is lossing the Women's title. Hope you win Mickey.

Folks have been asking for changes in the report for weeks and weeks. For whatever reason, he seems determined to not change his format.
************
Okay three suggestions that could make your report a little bit better (though you havnt done this year so Im not expecting anything):
1) Bold the winner of every match at the end.
2) Put the times of the matches.
3) Finish each match/segement with your own little recap, and maybe some "final thoughts".

I'd have been glad to watch even a pre-empted SD,instead of NOTHING!since the local(North Carolina)MY40 station went off air yesterday evening and as of tenthirty this morning was still offair.I really want SD on USA network or something.I am so mad right now.

Great Show !!!!
1- Morrison and Kilings vs Jericho and Mcintyre, awesome match. The 4 guys is material for the Intercontinental Title
2- Mccool vs Mickie for the Women Title in Rumble, BIG ADDED. FOR THE GOOD BY ALL (specially by Aj Styles) Mcclooser loses the Women Title, FOR THE GOOD BY ALL

She wrestles in FCW under the name Mia Mancini. Her real name's Serena Deeb, which she used on the indy scene.

I don't get the bitching about the Divas segment, I thought it was one of the strongest of recent times.
Posted By: Ryushinku (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 06:51 AM
They are bitching b/c they are a big bunch of childish haters. I'm the first one to say that McCools push was WAY too fast, WAY too soon. But that was then and this is now. I think all 5 divas involved in this promo did great. Yes it doesn't make much sense for Mickie to go on and on about how they won't break her and then end it with her crying...but that is hardly her fault. And these angles and feuds need to be played out over longer periods of time if we want them to be meaningful. If they are smart, Mickie will win the belt but then the attention will turn to which mega heel will face her @ Mania..Beth or Michelle...(I see a decent Women's triple thread in the near future if they do things right)
Posted By: Nicole (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Anybody that is enjoying this woman feud will stop enjoying it as soon as they actually wrestle. Mark my words.
If you think any of those chicks cut a decent promo, that just shows me how low the standards have become nowadays. Wow. I use to think Lita was the worst.
And anybody that thinks this feud will end with Mickie looking good must have ignored every news item for the last six months.

McCool is just continuing her trend of ripping off TNA by trying to steal the Beautiful People's gimmick. Replace Layla and McCool with Velvet and Angelina and you might actually have a compelling feud.

"They are bitching b/c they are a big bunch of childish haters."
No, it's because they thought the segment wasn't good, and I agree. Michelle is awkward and forced on the mic, the only heat the heels got was a "You suck" chant that died a quick death, Beth's run-in was non-sensical, and the segment could have easily been done in half the time.
Posted By: Guest#8490 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 03:02 PM
Reading Jerichos book I can see why Jericho would easily job to somebody. He knows what it takes to break out in the wrestling scene.

People recycle gimmicks, wrestling moves, storylines all the time. Why does Michelle McCool get constantly ripped for this when others do the same thing??
It's so sad that no matter how hard Michelle McCool works to improve (and she HAS improved on the mic and is one of the top woman wrestlers in the WWE) the IWC will never even acknowledge. You don't even have to like her, but to say she sucks is so stupid considering that she's more entertaining than most of the other Divas like Kelly Kelly or something.

Mickie James: proof that the line about putting lipstick on a pig is true. What an ugly, skanky bitch. She looks like some gutter trash you might pick up at a bar at 3 am after having way too many drinks.
Posted By: Guest#5277 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 04:04 PM
McCools real problem is she'll never get over being the slob on Takers knob. If not for the internet, no one would know that. Further more, she cant back anything up. Shes not that good of a wrestler, horrible on the mic, and really shouldnt be punkin anyone on appearance cuz she aint nothin to look at anyways, especially when it comes to weight.
I think Mickies taking it so she can feud with Beth and drop it to her at Wrestlemania, then retire.
Posted By: CL1 (Registered) on January 23, 2010 at 04:22 PM
The main issue with Michelle is, besides the fact that she isn't nearly as over as WWE thinks she is, is that she's basically 2003 HHH with boobs. What I mean by that is the fact that even though she IS a decent wrestler, she's getting by more on who's she doing backstage than anything else. And also because how many times have you seen ANYONE get the upper hand on Michelle since she turned heel? Only Beth has done it, and wouldn't you know, she's on her side now. There better be an underlying story there on Beth kissing Michelle's ass in order to lower her defenses only to steal the title from underneath her, or else this entire angle is being done for no other reason but to satiate Michelle's ego.
The heels on Raw are never allowed to look strong for any reason (sans Orton, and even then when he faces DX or Cena it comes off looking flukish). Michelle, however, never looks weak, and it totally takes the excitement out of the face chasing the heel, because everyone already knows Michelle is going to win. Just like HHH in 2003. Only far less charismatic (and HHH cut some godawful promos in 2003). And also because most people don't give two shits about women's wrestling, hence why Michelle still gets no real reaction despite being a heel champ for over 6 months now. She's not even that cute, because she would've at least gotten SOME reaction by now if that was the case. Just ask Maryse.
That makes the decision to shave Serena's head and put her with Punk bizarre. If the reports are true, both of SD's only face divas are leaving, so that means either someone's gonna have to turn, or they'll have to do the same thing they had to do to get the title off HHH in 2004: move someone from the other show. Or did I just imagine that?
Or maybe Michelle will just hold the title forever, and this is her way of saying she was better than Trish AND Moolah. Who knows. Maybe she should start sticking out her tongue and roll her eyes behind her head when she pins people with the Faithbreaker. Entertain me by making subtle references that you ride Underpenis, and that's why they push a tall skinny bitch as the unstoppable force in women's wrestling on the same show with Beth Phoenix on it. Oh, and Natalya, but I forgot, Natalya can't work. Michelle said it, so it must be true.
Aside from Michelle getting one over AGAIN and Rey's "how cute, he thinks he actually has a chance" promo, Smackdown was inoffensive this week. Oh, and get ready to see a bald CM Punk after Wrestlemania, because that's the only way THAT storyline is ending. BTW, he looks real creepy as a Jesus-esque savior. I half expect to see him doing televangelist stuff soon.

McCool cannot wrestle, sucks on the mic, and is manly.
I dont watch wrestling to see who is most improved. I watch it for people that already have it, people that entertain me.
My attitude is not parental, a la "Awww, her is doing so good this week."
Posted By: Guest#4904 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 05:07 PM
Great show? (scratching my head). I mean I like WWE (when they were good) but Finlay def. Batista c'mon. R-Truth def. Drew Mcintyre. just bc they had a good match does not make them good wrestlers. I mean listen to yourselves. R-Truth good, wtf...Jericho and maybe John Morrison make this match good. Cryme Tyme sucks. The great Khali shouldnt even be wrestling...Undertaker is great...Rey Rey was the best part of Smackdown and always is. Hey TNA sucks right now but no way is this a great show.
Posted By: ant (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 05:16 PM
at least you guys are consistent. It's rare to hear of WWE fans saying a show sucks but they will definitely say that it is better than TNA. However I have heard TNA fans say that TNA sucks.TNA has some nights that out shine WWE. but no WWE fan will admit that. You really need to step back and be a wrestling fan. WWE sucks right now and so does TNA.
Posted By: Guest#9202 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 05:27 PM
Well there was some good, some bad. I'll start with the good. The CM Punk segment is great and further getting over his Straight Edge Society and saving people. Punk is entertaining on the mic, great wrestler. He is the gel that holds Smackdown together. The tag match with Jericho/McIntyre vs Morrison/Truth was pretty good. Ok now with the bad. Wow the women's segment was horrible. Who the hell wrote that garbage? "Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum". Cmon now. Anybody over the age of 10 wasnt laughing at those lameass jokes. The whole fat thing with Mickie James is ridiculous. I dont even think shes overweight right now. Oh well. The Mysterio thing was kinda predictable that Batista would get involved since its been reported as being a 3 way at the rumble for weeks. Half of this show was really bad, half of it was pretty good.

No one said she doesn't try. WWE overpushes her badly, she rarely loses, and she lacks natural charisma. A secondary role would be a better position for her.
Posted By: Guest#8621 (Guest) on January 23, 2010 at 05:59 PM
I hope Mickie loses at the Rumble. Badly. I mean she jobs relatively clean, and gets the crap beat out of her afterwards. She's one of the most overrated performers ever, and the only way she can quiet down some of her haters(and more and more people are hating her as time goes on), is if she finally puts over another diva convincingly. The only reason Mickie has a damn career is because two women that are far more popular and memorable than she ever will be put her over huge in 2006. Now it's time for her to do the same for the "next generation" of divas.

Why are people still assuming that the only reason Michelle McCool is getting pushed is because of being Taker's girlfriend? Perhaps Vince and Stephanie like her for being a really talented woman wrestler that she is! Not to mention that she's gorgeous. Undertaker is reportedly not into playing politics so it makes NO sense that Michelle is getting a push on account of him. What she does in her personal life is no one else's business.
And look at the big picture: except for Mickie James there isn't a single other current Diva in the WWE who can work AND is over. With such little reactions for Diva matches, I'd rather they pushed someone who could work over someone who sucks in the ring and isn't over. I like Maryse for her persona (and looking good) but let's be real, only about 10 pops on RAW each week so over she ain't.
And another thing, everyone's complaining that McCool is getting clean win after clean win and is looking over-dominant. What about Chyna? Beth Phoenix in 2008? Heck even Awesome Kong in TNA was the dominant force for a long time. Yet when it's Michelle people have a problem with it.

1. She can wrestle.
2. She's getting better on the mic. I'd like to see try to cut a promo in front of several thousand people!
3. Then you clearly don't know what a woman looks like. She's one of the hottest Divas right now.

People don't mind Awesome Kong and Beth doing that because they should be doing that because of their size. And, in Kong's case, she got over doing it.
None of that is the case with Michelle. She's skinny and the crowd leaves for the bathroom or are silent during her matches, even though she's been pushed for a couple of years now. A lot of the other Divas recieve apathy from the crowd, but they don't get mic time, angles, and tons of clean wins like Michelle, either.

As a curvy woman, I don't have any problem seeing Mickie James or Maria Kannelis as the new Women's Champion! To Hell with Layla El because she bottoms for Michelle McFool and Beth Phoenix and Natalya Neidhart aren't even in the title picture!

There are about 10,000 instances of Taker doing just that...even if only ten percent are legit, he plays politics.
LOL at thinking a blond skinny model like McCool should be a dominant force lie Beth, Chyna, or Kong.

Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson did the exact same stuff, so if Lay-Cool is copying anyone its them.

Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Layla, Maria, and Beth Phoenix have more personality than any of those boring TNA Knockouts. Angelina Love, Velvet Sky (who can't wrestle) and Tara are the only ones they have.
The rest all seem the same....BORING!
Posted By: Boom (Guest) on January 24, 2010 at 01:56 PM
Michelle McCool can wrestle, she hasnt over the past few weeks since she is suffering a knee injury.
She is one of the best talents in women's wrestling. Can she wrestle against the dumb models they put her in the ring with, Bellas, Maryse (who I love anyway!), Maria, Eve, Layla, Kelly Kelly-- no. but watch her against actual women's wrestlers. Beth Phoneix, Gail Kim, Jillian Hall, Katie Lee and Mickie James then you actually see good matches. Those models in the ring hurt what they can and cannot do.

"I cannot imagine being one of the 2 female wrestling fans in the world and watching this. The constant basing of a thin woman for being fat is ludicrous. Even if Mickie wins one match at the end of all of this, it does not offset months of two untalented women bashing her for being overweight (which she is not). So can the whole "Its okay as long as the face wins in the end" argument."
I agree with every word. I hate this gimmick cause of the signals it's sending out to those young female fans. Image is becoming more of an issue in society today than ever before and there is more and more pressure to fit in. What are they supposed to think when they hear someone of James' stature is fat? I know there's not much to do with the Divas anymore, but weight issues is not the way to go. But that's just my opinion

You want me to get into McCool? Her next promo should be against none other than Fatt Hardy. It would have made alot more sense for her to insult him for his weight. The ironic thing is that Mickie appears to have lost weight since the feud started, while somehow getting even uglier. Her horse face was very prominent this week.
And before you say that Hardy would never let a woman own him, go back and watch how he reacted to Lita when she dumped him. He's an emo bitch. When McCool makes fun of his weight and receding hairline, he will respond by going online and writing a ten thousand word response on his website. He learned this tactic from Mick Foley.
