411’s ROH on HDNet Report 03.04.10: Black & Strong vs. Aries & King (03.01.10)

March 4, 2010 | Posted by Aaron Hubbard

They show Tyler Black beating Austin Aries to become the ROH World Champion. The main event is Black teaming up with Roderick Strong to face Aries and Kenny King.

The Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis & Cory Chavis) vs. The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards)
Both teams are heels, but the Wolves rule the freaking world so they’re the de facto faces. Richards gets chants but he points to Eddie and the crowd cheers for him too. Lots of smack talk and the Wolves jump them before the match, the DCFC fight back and whip the Wolves, Eddie goes outside and Davey fights them both with kicks and hits Davis with an enzugiri, and Edwards hits Chavis with the flying codebreaker. Richards schoolboys Cory for two, and then puts him in a sloppy cloverleaf as Eddie hits a tope suicida on Jon. Chavis gets the ropes and Eddie tags in and stomps the crap out of him before choking him with his foot. Eddie chokes him again but stops so that Davey can hit a sliding kick and go Steve Holt on us. Davey tags in and hits a dropkick and knocks Davis to the floor before getting a two count. Eddie tags in and hits a clothesline for two.

Davey is in and boots Davis to the floor again, but Chavis starts fighting the Wolves off. Eddie hits a superkick and Richards hits the spin kick, but Cory fights off the superkick/German Suplex combo and sends Edwards to the floor. Richards hits a flying forearm and some kidney punches, Chavis reverses a whip and Davey tries the handspring enzugiri but Davis catches him in a torture rack and spins him into a blue thunder bomb! Chavis covers for two and tags out, the DCFC drive Richards into the corner, Jon whips Cory into a clothesline and hits a sidewalk slam for two. Davis hits several elbows and tags out to Chavis. It’s weird seeing Hagadorn trying to rally the fans behind his men. Davey fights back with chops but Chavis goes to the eyes, more clubbering and Davis tags in, Davey misses a dropkick and Jon starts stomping him. He hits a body slam and tags out, Chavis hits a catapult into a spinning uranage for two.

Cory and Davey fight over a suplex before Jon breaks it up and hits Edwards for good measure. Cool spot as the DCFC try to hit a double clothesline but Davey hits a big boot on their hands, spin kick to Davis, enzugiri to Chavis and now he hits the suplex for good measure. Eddie gets the tag and hits Davis with a shoulder to the gut, an enzugiri for Chavis and Eddie then leaps over Davis before hitting Chavis with a dropkick. Edwards sends the DCFC into each other and takes out Davis with a flying knee strike, hits a few boots on Chavis, ducks some clotheslines and finally takes him down with another boot. Big fisherman’s buster gets two for Edwards. Chavis avoids a German Suplex, Eddie escapes a waistlock but runs into a kick, Davis is in and the DCFC hit a discus clothesline variant of Total Elimination! Awesome!

Chavis catches another boot from Eddie but he slaps him before connecting with an enzugiri. Lots of complicated moving around eventually sees the Wolves hit the enzugiri/forearm attack on Chavis, and Davey hits the tornado DDT on the floor on Davis! Eddie tries a powerbomb, no good, knees to the face, still no good as Davis hits a back body drop. Edwards hits an awkward headscissors move, blocks a kick and tosses Chavis’ leg to Davey on the apron, hits an enzugiri to the back of the head and Richards hits a dragon screw in the ropes. Eddie hits a dropkick to the knee, Davey leaps in and hits the big running kick to the chest, Edwards hits a moonsault but only gets two! HALF CRAB! Davey stops Davis from breaking it up with a front facelock but Davis just lifts him and spears him into his partner!

The Wolves can’t hit a double suplex on Chavis, he fights them off and hits the ropes, the Wolves try the Alarm Clock but Davis SPEARS Richards! Eddie hits a dragon screw on Chavis but runs into a knee to the gut and Davis hits a sliding leg lariat! PROJECT MAYHEM! The DCFC win the match.
Winners: The Dark City Fight Club (via Project Mayhem) ***

Kyle Durdan is in the back with Skullkrusher Rasche Brown. He asks if he’s made a choice between Hagadorn and Prince Nana. He says we make choices, and someone chose to face Skullkrusher tonight, so pain is coming!

Bobby Dempsey vs. Steve Corino
Dempsey is wearing a vest. Bunch of forearms to start and Corino fights off a suplex with elbows, more forearms but Dempsey hits a back body drop. Corino hits a boot and slaps and pummels Bobby, then drives his forearm into his face. He rakes his eyes across the top rope and whips him cross-corner so he can hit a running chop. Dempsey reverses a whip but runs into a boot, and Corino hits a running STO for two. Steve starts slapping him but Bobby fires up, so he hits a clothesline instead. Dempsey is back up and hits an elbow, two clotheslines and the suplex he was looking for earlier. Dempsey hits the Bobby Block and goes for the Death Valley Driver but Corino counters to the Gannosuke Clutch for the win. Didn’t expect that and it wasn’t very good either.
Winner: Steve Corino (via Gannosuke Clutch) 1/2*

Bobby hits another Bobby Block after the bell and goes for the DVD but Corino fights it long enough for Kevin Steen to make the save. Alex Payne tries to help Dempsey but gets a kick to the groin for his troubles. Basic beatdown from Misters Wrestling until Alex starts bleeding. Steen puts the blood on his face and hits two Package Piledrivers.

Mike Hogewood is all pissy about it. I guess someone didn’t slap his porpoise. Dave Prazak says we need to move along.

We get a pretty cool interview with Sara Del Ray, who says she prefers working out to being in the ring. She hates all the models trying to get into the business; they don’t want to be mean and tough, but Sara wants to be respected as an athlete. She values wrestling as a sport and wants to be the female representative of that.

Skullcrusher Rasche Brown vs. The Set (Jay Sin & Lance Lewd)
The Set tries a preemptive strike with little effect, throw Brown over but he skins the cat and hits a double clothesline. Jay goes to the eyes but runs into a black hole slam. He catches Lewd going for a crossboyd and hits a huge military press as Nana and Hagadorn take notes. He whips sin into Lewd and takes out Sid with the flipping spear. He hits the Burning Hammer on Lewd, which drops him on top of sin and he covers them both. THEY SMASHED HIM OVER! HE DID NO JOBS! HE BEAT TWO AND THREE MEN AT A TIME!
Winner: Rasche Brown (via Burning Hamer) 1/2*

Rasche walks by both managers and they plug the main event again. They will also unveil the ROH TV tournament brackets.

Portia Perez vs. Sara Del Ray
Del Ray shoves her into the corner and starts hitting forearms and stomps, the ref pulls her off and Perez hits a sloppy schoolgirl for two. She runs into a forearm but gets a wheelbarrow roll-up for two. Del Ray hits a big boot and stomps Perez, set her up in the ropes and hits a few kicks from the apron. Sara hits a suplex for two and sits across Portia’s back. Del Ray hits a hip attack and a headbutt as well. Sara hits a scoop slam and a kneedrop for two. Perez avoids a Capo Kick and hits a few forearms before drilling Del Ray with a tornado DDT. Perez follows with a low dropkick for two, connects with some knees but runs into a bridging back suplex from Sara. Del Ray hits a capo kick and then a pildriver to put the Canadian Ninja away.
Winner: Sara Del Ray (via piledriver) 3/4*

The brackets for the TV Tournament are Steen vs. Rhett Titus, Edwards vs. Colt Cabana, Richards vs. Delirious, and El Generico vs. Kenny King.

Roderick Strong & Tyler Black vs. Kenny King & Austin Aries
Conveniently, there are no entrances for the main event so we don’t see Aries with the belt. King and Roddy fight over a wristlock before Strong hits a leaping heel kick and tags out. Black and King do a leapfrog sequence and Tyler hits a pair of armdrags. Aries doesn’t want to tag in and instead just gives Kenny some advice as Strong tags back in. King hits a knee to the gut and controls with strikes. He tries a corner whip but Roderick leaps over him and hits a dropkick. Black is tagged in and he hits a sledge on King’s back, stomps and snapmares him, then kicks his back. Aries pulls Kenny to the floor, Strong is back in and Kenny gets a hammerlock, and Aries tags in and hits a sledge to the arm. Aries mocks him with arm wringers and chops, ducks a chop and cartwheels past a back body drop but Roddy chops his chest. Aries scampers to the corner and tags back out to King.

King backs Strong into the corner with a test of strength, hits a knee to the gut and some forearm shots, whips him to the corner but runs into a boot. Strong hits a chop and some forearms, but Kenny drives him into his corner and Aries helps Kenny attack Roddy. Tyler comes in and knocks off Aries with punches as Kenny and Strong keep fighting. Roddy reverses a whip so Aries hits a chop to Strong’s back and King gets the capoeira kick for two. King slams Strong into the boot of Aries and Austin tags in and pummels him, then distracts the ref so Kenny can do some more damage. Roddy fights back but Aries hits a knee lift and a springboard stomp, tags out and holds him so that Kenny can punch him, and rakes the back before going outside. Kenny throws Strong to the floor and Aries hits bombs away!

Kenny covers for two and hits a backdrop suplex for two more. He tags out and catapults Roddy into a forearm from Aries, and Strong lands on the knees, and Aries hits the slingshot corkscrew splash for two. Strong chops Austin but Aries gets a drop toehold into an anklebar and tags back out. King applies a chinlock, Roddy fires him off and we get a head collision. Aries wisely distracts Tyler to keep him from making the tag and Kenny hits an elbow drop for two. King beats Strong down and tags out, the heels hit a double back elbow and Aries hits the powerdrive elbow for two. Aries tags out and the heels go for something but Strong fights them off and gets the mildly warm tag.

Black comes in with punches for everybody, whips both Aries and Kenny into the corner, dodges Aries and hits a forearm on King, moves out of the way of an Austin forearm that hits Kenny, sets for the Paroxysm but switches it to the reverse STO/DDT combination. Black hits the F-5 for two. He sets for the quebrada but misses, hits the standing shooting star press but Aries breaks up the cover. Black gets distracted by Aries and King attacks him, whips him and Black gets a blind tag and then takes out AA with a hilo. SICK KICK TO KING! 1…2…NO! PRESS GUTBUSTER! Black sets up for the Superkick but King ducks and Strong takes the kick. King covers and gets the win. That was way too freaking pedestrian considering the talent and it’s place on the card.
Winners: Kenny King & Austin Aries (via Superkick from Black on Strong) **1/2

Strong and Black get into an argument and a shoving match as the show ends.
