411’s Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors Report 08.13.10

August 14, 2010 | Posted by Randy Harrison

The show kicks off this week with a “Previously on Lucha Libre USA” though sadly there’s no cheesy soap opera-style music accompanying the recap. We see Solid’s pity party complete with the finish of last week’s tag team tournament bout, the debut of Amazing Kong to save Mini Park from destruction and from there we go outside the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas with a POV camera knocking on the dressing room door of Treachery and handing a letter to Lizmark Jr. He reads it to himself, complete with moving lips, and laughs, slamming the door in the camera as we get to the opening of the show!

The disembodied voices of Nigel Sherrod and Lalo Gonzalez welcome us to the show and run down the card as we’ve got another bout in the Lucha Libre USA Heavyweight Championship tournament, a mixed tag rematch with Mini Park and Amazing Kong taking on Tigressa Caliente and Chi Chi, as well as BIG NEWS! First, let’s get to the ring for tonight’s opening bout!

Combate Uno: Trios match
Neutronic, Medianoche and Pequeno Halloween vs. Marco Corleone, Super Nova and Octagoncito

For those of you scoring at home, we’re back to the six-sided ring that the promotion used for the first two weeks of the show. Before the match begins, Lalo really earns his money by saying that this is a traditional trios match and that only the captain can be pinned to end the match….unless either one of the other two members are pinned because that counts too…

Halloween and Corleone start out and Halloween goes behind Corleone and tries to lock on a sleeperhold, but Corleone just dumps him on his head and the other two rudos attack Corleone from behind. All three of them work over Corleone in the corner and try a whip across the ring, but Corleone springboards to the top rope and takes out all three men with a flying crossbody!! Super Nova jumps in and sends Medianoche to the floor with a hurrancanrana while Octagoncito armdrags Halloween out to the floor as well to clear the ring of rudo. TOPE CON GIRO THROUGH THE ROPES BY OCTAGONCITO ON HALLOWEEN! TOPE CON GIRO OVER THE TOP ROPE BY NOVA ON MEDIANOCHE!! Corleone sets up for Air Corleone, but Neutronic takes him out with a huge dropkick, pushing him all the way to the floor with a few more kicks. Super Nova in the ring now and he dropkicks Halloween, but Medianoche takes him down with a dropkick of his own and it’s a three on one rudo beatdown. Double whip into the ropes on Nova and he tries the casadora on Neutronic, but Halloween catches him in it and hits an inverted lungblower before Medianoche comes off the top with a splash across Nova’s back!! Great triple-team offense from the rudos!!

Corleone sneaks in and starts cleaning house with left hands before catching Halloween as he tries a splash off the top rope. Neutronic and Medianoche take out Corleone’s legs and the rudos continue their dominance in this one, whipping Corleone into the corner with Medianoche hitting a flying clothesline. Halloween tries for one of his own off of Medianoche’s back, but Corleone catches him and deposits him on the apron before waffling him with a left hand. Neutronic cuts off the comeback with a springboard dropkick of the second rope that sends Corleone to the floor and brings Nova back into the bout. Nova and Neutronic trade chops before Nova dropkicks Neutronic to the floor and teases another dive by handspringing off the ropes into a muscle pose. Octagoncito and Halloween in now and Octagoncito slips off the top turnbuckle, allowing Halloween to take over and call in the rest of the team to try more triple-teaming. They whip Octagoncito into the corner and try to whip Halloween off the ropes for more momentum, but Corleone lowbridges him on the middle rope and Halloween is out to the floor. Nova to the top turnbuckle and he hits a huge flying bodypress on the other two rudos!! Duck under a double clothesline from Nova and he catapults Octagoncito into a hurrancanrana on Medianoche that puts him to the floor as Nova armdrags Neutronic to the outside. AIR CORLEONE TO MEDIANOCHE AND NEUTRONIC ON THE FLOOR!!

Octagoncito with a hurrancanrana off the top turnbuckle on Halloween and he comes off the ropes for a tilt-a-whirl headscissors into a majistral cradle that only gets a one count. Halloween catches Octagoncito and flips him over his shoulder for the TRICK OR TREAT!! Whatever it is, it’s a big move and Halloween is in for the cover….1….2….3!!! For anyone that’s not sure, it’s almost like a package stunner in this instance. Lalo gets back into explaining the rules and does a MUCH better job of it this time by saying that either the captain can be pinned, or BOTH of the other two team members can be pinned. Well, that’s not what you said the first time. Nova comes off the top with a splash on Halloween and Medianoche sneaks in and tries a clothesline that Nova ducks under. They go into the ropes with Nova trying a roll-up, but Medianoche holds on and charges at Nova for a sunset flip..1…..2…Nova reverses into his own cradle….1….2…..Medianoche rolls the shoulder!! Nova with a hurrancanrana on Medianoche and he hooks both legs….1….2…3!! The technicos even up the score, meaning the next pinfall wins as it will either be two team members pinned or a captain getting pinned. Neutronic puts Nova to the floor with a back elbow and we’re down to Corleone and Neutronic in the middle of the ring. Corleone avoids a charge and puts Neutronic into the corner face-first before pasting him with a left hand. Corleone whips him into the ropes and tries for a back bodydrop but gets a kick in the teeth as Neutronic hits the ropes again. Clothesline attempt and a duck under and Corleone hits THE MARK OF EXCELLENCE!! 1….2……3!!! Technicos win!!

Winners: Marco Corleone, Super Nova and Octagoncito (pinfall, Corleone’s Mark of Excellence on Neutronic) ***

Great effort from all six guys here and as such it didn’t have the usual sloggy feel that a trios match with the bigger competitors tends to have. I wish Lalo would have explained the rules better at the beginning of the match as new fans might not have understood competely, but he at least salvaged that by doing a better job after the first pin. Lots of action and nothing was botched too badly meaning that this one was alright in my book. It doesn’t do much to further any storylines for anyone involved, but it doesn’t always have to be about that, especially in a trios match. Nice way to open the show.

Back from the commercial, we get highlights from the trios match before we head to the back with Rebecca Reyes and Octagoncito, who apparently knows what was in the letter for Lizmark Jr. to open the show. Octagoncito doesn’t tell her anything and walks off before she has to fend off the advances of a lecherous Pequeno Halloween. Her cell phone goes off and she sets up some plans with a friend of hers, saying that they’re going to go out and get crazy. Unfortunately for Rebecca, Halloween was eavesdropping from around the corner. My guess is that her plans end up going awry.

After seeing that Charly Malice and Marco Corleone are on opposite sides of the Lucha Libre USA Heavyweight Championship tournament, we go to the back where Marco is asking Solid where he was during the opening match and why he wasn’t watching his back. Solid says he had to talk to the commissioner and he’s going to be going up against Lizmark Jr. in the title tournament. Marco freaks out and says that it’s not going to happen, but Solid stands up for himself and says that he has to handle things like a man. Corleone tells him he’s going to get slaughtered as Solid heads out to the ring for his match. Quite the supportive friend right there.

Combate Dos: Lucha Libre USA Heavyweight Championship Tournament First Round
Lizmark Jr. vs. Solid

Lizmark looks pretty cocky as he enters the ring and we get a shot of Marco Corleone watching in the back as he looks concerned and can barely watch. Solid charges Lizmark at the bell and Solidlanches him into the corner, hitting some shoulders to the stomach before Lizmark hammers away with forearms to the back. Lizmark puts the boots to Solid and pushes him into the corner for a HUGE chop to the chest and another! Lizmark shows some AMAZING strength and suplexes Solid into a cover…1…2….Lizmark picks him up before the three to dish out more punishment! Lizmark off the ropes…….legdrop across the face of Solid!! 1…..2….another pick-up by Lizmark! Chop to the chest from Lizmark and he tries for a whip into the corner but Solid reverses it as we cut to the back and see Marco Corleone running through the halls of the Thomas and Mack on his way to the ring. Solid chargs in on Lizmark, but eats a big back elbow and Lizmark snatches him into a DDT! Cover….1…..2…..3!! Lizmark moves on to face Charly Malice in the semifinals!

The bell rings, but Lizmark continues to lay in the boots and hits another pair of legdrops. As Lizmark beats him down, the rudos are on the stage and beating Corleone down before holding him up and making him watch Lizmark destroy his friend. Super Nova and the other technicos hit the stage and free Corleone as he charges to the ring. He checks on his friend as Lizmark just cooly rolls out under the bottom rope, sending a message to Corleone as he heads back up the aisle.

Winner: Lizmark Jr. (pinfall, DDT) *

Squash all the way and the only thing that made it fairly entertaining was that angle after the match which kind of fizzled out a little with Corleone making the save without having to do anything but show up. I can appreciate that they’re trying to build up the eventual Corleone/Lizmark confrontation by keeping them away from being physical, but it still made for a bit of an anti-climax at the end of beating. Another good thing about this one is that it sets up Lizmark vs. Malice, which should be a pretty decent semifinal match. That’s about it though for the positives.

After the break we get the highlights from the beatdown by Lizmark as Solid is on a backboard and getting wheeled towards an ambulance. Nigel tells us that Charly Malice and Rellik are still brawling in the bowels of the Thomas and Mack after fighting on the stage and we cut to Rellik throwing Malice into a production trunk. Rellik tries to crush Malice by rolling another one into him, but Malice gets out of the way and scrambles to his feet. He blocks a right hand and takes over on Rellik for a minute, but Rellik fights right back and hammers away again, saying “Charly” over and over again in a creepy horror movie villain voice. Malice reverses a whip and sends Rellik into the barricade before he THROWS A TRASHCAN AT HIM!! Malice tries to powerbomb Rellik on a pallet, but Rellik reverses it into a back bodydrop. Rellik grabs a chair and starts waffling Malice with it, but the camera angle keeps us from actually seeing the chairshots connect. Great job of selling though from Malice as we keep hearing him screaming in pain with every shot. Rellik walks away laughing as Malice is laid out and injured. Going back to Corleone, Rebecca Reyes catches up with him outside and he looks distraught as the ambulance pulls away. Corleone says that Lizmark sent his best friend to the hospital and he didn’t deserve that. He says he should have never let Solid go out there and he feels like it’s his fault. He talks about fighting with Lizmark for four years now and says that what he did to Solid crossed the line and that he’s going to get his. He says that when he gets his hands on him, he’s going to put Lizmark in the hospital. Corleone really stumbled on that promo and it just wasn’t very good. Instead of believing it was someone who was upset, it felt like a guy pretending to be upset, which is exactly what you don’t want to do.

We cut to the locker room where the PR Powers are taping up when in comes Neutronic, Tinieblas Jr. and Sabercat. Neutronic talks shit on their chances of being tag team champions before Sabercat says that they’re actually cool and they want to be homies. We get handshakes before the rudos double-cross them and start laying in the boots and stomps. Trashcan shot on PR Flyer by Sabercat!! Chairshot to San Juan Kid by Tinieblas!! If I had to guess, this would be setting up a trios match for next week, but at this point who knows.

Back from the next commercial break and we get a rundown of the entire situation between Mini Park and Tigressa Caliente heading into tonight’s main event, including the tremendous debut of Amazing Kong a couple of weeks back.

Combate Tres: Mixed Tag Match
Tigressa Caliente and Chi Chi vs. Mini Park and Amazing Kong

Chi Chi is wearing a sports bra this week and trying to enter the ring like one of the Beautiful People. Unfortunately, it’s just not as fun when some guy dressed like a dude is rubbing his balls on the middle rope. After the entrances, we head to yet another commercial break as the squash match in the middle of the show is really messing with the pacing this week.

Chi Chi and Mini Park start things out and Chi Chi takes Park over with a hip toss for a one count before Park reverses and does the same to Chi Chi…..BITCH DONE LOST HER WIG!! FOUR SECONDS IN AND BITCH DONE LOST HER WIG!!! Park flings it into the air and charges at Chi Chi, but Chi Chi trips him and covers for a one-count. Park does the same and gets another count of one and they stare down in the middle of the ring. Tigressa sneaks in and gets Park in a full nelson as Chi Chi threatens to kiss him, but Park gets free with kick to Chi Chi and a reverse elbow to Tigressa. Chi Chi kicks park and whips him into the ropes, dropping down as Tigressa leapfrogs Park. Another leapfrog and Park comes off the ropes and does a backflip before hitting a dropkick that knocks down Tigressa. Chi Chi attacks Park from behind with forerarms and whips him into the ropes for a clothesline, but Park ducks under and hits a beautiful hurrancanrana that puts Chi Chi all the way out to the floor. Tigressa tries to attack from behind on Park, but Amazing Kong steps in and is now ready to lay down some ass-whipping. She stares down Tigressa and Tigressa comes off the ropes to try a shoulderblock. She does it again and Kong doesn’t move. Tigressa scream and she tries it again and Kong shoulders her to the floor. Chi Chi in now and Kong whips him into the ropes…KONGALANCHE!!!

HUGE SPLASH FROM KONG ON CHI CHI!! 1…..2…..Chi Chi rolls the shoulder!! Tag to Mini Park and he comes off the top with a beautiful missile dropkick. Park tries to whip Chi Chi into the ropes, but Chi Chi reverses and hits a big forearm to the head and that gets two. Chi Chi whips Park into the ropes, but Tigressa catches his ankle and drags him out to the floor. Tigressa with forearms and punches before she sends Park into the ringpost and fires him back into the ring. Chi Chi with a whip into the ropes and he hits a GLITTERBUSTAHHHH (waistlock into a facebuster). 1…2….Park just kicks out before the three! Chi Chi with a whip into the ropes and he drops down with Tigressa hitting a big bicycle kick to the face of Park. Cover from Tigressa that gets another two count and she starts working the arm-wringer, kicking Park in the face before dropping down and jacking his jaw with another kick. Tag to Chi Chi and he hits a kick to the gut of Park before taking him over with a trio of vertical suplexes that get a trio of two-counts. Northern Lights suplex from Chi Chi….1….2…Park kicks out!! Forearms from Chi Chi now and he calls in Tigressa to hold Park for another kiss. Chi Chi plays to the crowd and Park elbows Tigressa in the gut and reverses….CHI CHI KISSES TIGRESSA!!! TIGRESSA SLAPS CHI CHI!!! Tigressa eats a dropkick from Park and Chi Chi cuts that off with forerarms, whipping Park into the corner. Park with a boot to the face and he drops Chi Chi with a tornado DDT!!

Tag to Kong and she’s cleaning house, clotheslining Tigressa and Chi Chi before she sets up Tigressa for the Amazing Bomb. Chi Chi breaks that up and they double-whip Kong into the ropes, but Kong breaks through a double clothesline and drops both of them with a huge clothesline. Kong picks up Chi Chi and sets him up for the Amazing Bomb, but Chi Chi squirms free and kicks Kong in the knee before whipping her into the ropes. Kong ducks under a clothesline and sets Chi Chi up…..IMPLANT BUSTAHHHH!! Tag to Park and he comes off the top rope….MOONSAULT…..1….2….3!!! Park and Kong win again!! After the pin, Tigressa and Kong scratchfight on the outside, but nothing really comes of it. She rolls into the ring and points the finger at Chi Chi and the show ends with Kong heading up the ramp and enjoying her victory.

Winners: Mini Park and Amazing Kong (pinfall, Park’s moonsault on Chi Chi) **

Better than the last match between these two teams as they actually got time to work and did some work instead of just the usual comedy spots. There were plenty of comedy spots, don’t get me wrong, but they actually did a decent job of wrestling in there too, which made for a fun match. Not anything that’s going to change the world, but it was a fun way to finish the show. Hopefully they get some other women into the promotion soon because seeing Kong vs. Tigressa every week is going to get old pretty quickly.

Final Thoughts: Not the worst show from LLUSA this week, but it wasn’t the best either, especially with the pacing issues that they had in the middle of the show because of the Lizmark/Solid squash. If they had been able to stick another squash or even a shorter match in there somewhere, it might have been a little better, but the whole middle felt like two minutes of show for every four or five of commercials. As has seemingly been the case with every week, the trios match on the show was the best of the show, but this week there wasn’t another match that was anywhere close to it. Thumbs in the middle for this week’s show as it had its moments, but wasn’t really put together in the best way.
