Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet recapped by Michael Ornelas.
Episode 79: Briscoes’ Last Chance

Hey everyone, thanks for the positive feedback last week and sorry for the tardiness this week, but I have a question to ask those of you that read this. Would you rather a move-for-move detailed report that involves me rewatching the matches several times and pausing to write, but also being late with the report? Or do you want something Monday night that skims over the program? I can do either, but churning out a report like this is a lot harder than I thought. My cable box had issues last night anyways, but I was able to view the program elsewhere. When it is working, I don’t have a DVR, and reporting accurately how the matches went is impossible with only one viewing (especially tag matches, I discovered with this week’s episode). Please leave me feedback responding to this because it could very easily affect when I put this report out from now on. I will always try to have it up by Tuesday at the latest though.

ONTO THE SHOW!

We’re live and we start with last week’s confrontation between Davey and Black before the match and highlights from the match itself.

Big main event tonight: The Briscoe Bros vs. The Kings of Wrestling for the ROH Tag Team Championship, and it’s the Briscoes last chance.

The Embassy (Erick Stevens & The Necro Butcher) make their way down to the ring.

Here comes the littlest lumberjack Grizzly Redwood and Andy Right Leg Ridge.

Match #1: The Embassy vs. Grizzly Redwood & Andy Right Leg Ridge

Embassy jumps them and Stevens dumps Ridge to the outside. Grizzly gets control of Necro and goes for corner mounted punches and then bites him in the head, but Necro pushes him out of the corner and hits a boot to the face. Necro tags in Stevens. Grizzly takes him down as he charges him and gets the tag to Andy. Right-legged kicks to the chest of Stevens followed by a big boot off the ropes followed by lots of kicks on Stevens. Andy has Erick against the ropes, but blind tag by Necro. Wheelbarrow on Ridge for Butcher to punch Ridge in the face followed by a suplex over his head. Pin attempt good for 2. Butcher picks up Andy and gouges his eyes against the ropes. Big chop from Necro and he’s back to gouging the eyes from almost a Camel Clutch position. Front facelock and a tag to Stevens who takes a shot to his ribs. Ridge is kicked down. Stevens throws his head into the top turnbuckle, followed by a big chop. Stevens walks Ridge over to the Embassy’s corner and hits shoulders on Ridge. Tag to Butcher. He lifts Ridge back to his feet and headbutts him hard in the back of the head. BIG chop and an airplane spin, but Andy drops out and goes for the big kick. Necro blocks it and hits a chokeslam. A second chokeslam, and a clothesline by Necro before he tags in Stevens. Stevens with a waistlock on the downed Andy. Chin breaker by Ridge after the fans will him to his feet! Flips out of a back suplex tries to dive between Erick’s legs to get to the corner, but Steven hangs on to the left leg of Andy (looking like a single-leg crab). Enziguiri! Lukewarm tag to Grizzly. Redwood gets an elbow to the face of a charging Stevens, and dropkicks the knee. Forearm to the Necro Butcher in the opposite corner. Stevens comes at him, bro, but he side steps causing Stevens to collide with Necro. Hurricanrana on Stevens gets 2. Ugly botched tornado DDT where Grizzly TRIED to run up the Butcher before bringing Stevens down on his head, but the climb didn’t exactly work. Another 2 count, broken up by Necro. Ridge tries to attack Necro Butcher, but he’s dumped outside and thrown into the barrier. Grizzly’s up top and gets caught trying a cross body on Stevens. He lifts him up and tosses him out of the ring into a sick uppercut by Necro Butcher! Ridge is thrown into the barrier again after Redwood’s tossed back in and Stevens hits Ghanarhea for the 3 count.

Result: The Embassy wins by pinfall @ 6:30.
Rating: *1/2

Backstage with the Kings, Durden, Hagadorn, & Del Ray. Hagadorn would rather stand with champions than chumps, regarding his standing with the Wolves. Hero doesn’t know why the Briscoes would even WANT another match with them after how they’ve beaten them in the past. Castagnoli says they will break the Briscoes and we head to commercial.

We see clips from Christopher Daniels vs. Roderick Strong from a few weeks back.

The Super Smash Brothers make their way to the ring first. Followed by the House of Truth (with Truth Martini).

Match #2: The Super Smash Bros. vs. The House of Truth

They shake hands and we start with Josh Raymond & Player Uno. Kick to the gut on Uno and they duel with shoulder blocks off the ropes, which Uno wins. Uno brings Raymond to his corner and tags Player Dos. Raymond’s sent into the ropes, Uno trips him and Dos hits a leg drop on the back of his head. Pin attempt is good for 2. Raymond gets a knee to the midsection of Dos, and gets a tag. Raymond gets Dos’ arms locked up and Raymond gets some punches to the gut. Strikes and chops by Abel. Irish whip gets Dos a flying head scissors followed by a hurricanrana. A disoriented Abel tags in Raymond, who misses a clothesline off the top. Rolling pin attempt by Dos for 2. Back to their feet and Dos nails Raymond with a body kick, followed by a Snapmare. Dropkick to back of head! Pin attempt for 2. Knee to the midsection, and an Irish Whip where Raymond dropkicks Dos. Tag to Abel. Punches & elbows. Big chop and then a cheap shot to Uno in the corner. Uno tries to get in the ring now but the ref holds him back while Abel and Dos exchange strikes before Abel gets an STO good for a 2-count. Christian Abel picks Player Dos up and throws his head into top turnbuckle and tags Josh Raymond. Raymond Irish Whips Abel into a shoulder on Dos in the corner, which Josh follows up with a wheel kick in the corner. Snap suplex on Dos, pin for 2. Raymond throws him into the boot of Abel. The tag is made, and Abel powerbombs a running Raymond across the back of Player Dos. Back breaker by Abel and a dropping elbow from the second rope. Tag to Raymond and a double back suplex is flipped out of by Dos! Double clothesline ducked and kipped up. DOUBLE PELE! Tag to Uno! Clotheslines to the House of Truth! Dropkick to the face of Abel and a nice big knee strike into the corner on Raymond. Big modified neck breaker off of his shoulders on Josh! Pinfall attempt but Raymond kicks out. Uno picks up Raymond for a flying fist drop from Dos off the top rope/sidewalk slam combo. Abel comes in but gets removed by Dos. Uno sets Raymond up top as Dos tries for a corkscrew plancha to the outside but misses. Abel breaks it up on top, and they hit the wheelbarrow jumping face crusher off the top rope and Raymond pins Player Uno for 3.

Result: The House of Truth wins by pinfall @ 5:30.

Recap of Kings/Briscoes feud.

Homicide introduces himself to the Ring of Homicide and HDNet. He’s back in business. He can’t wait to get his title back.

We see Steen and Corino in the ring 2 weeks ago saying they’re going elsewhere and Steen quits.

Cornette has a message for Steen & Corino. He’s got news for them—he’s got contracts. They can be tied up in lawsuits until they’re old, or they can fulfill their obligations and face Cabana & Generico in a steel cage next week.

Kings of Wrestling are on their way out accompanied by Del Ray & Hagadorn.

After a last commercial break, the Briscoes are on their way out.

Match #3: The Kings of Wrestling vs. The Briscoes (Briscoes’ last chance at the KoW’s Tag Team Championship)

“Man up” chants from the crowd in Philly. Mark is starting for the Briscoes and Hero for the KoW. They lock up and mark pushes Hero off. Lock up again and Mark has control in the corner. Ref pulls Mark off and Hero shoves him. HARD slap to the face of Hero and Claudio tags himself in. Claudio slaps Mark in the face and Mark returns the favor. Follows it up with forearms and he has Claudio against the ropes. Irish Whip and Mark hits a wheel kick on Claudz. Tag to Jay. Mark with another Irish whip and drop down. Claudio goes straight into a shoulder block by Jay. Kings roll outside and the Briscoes are in the ring. Jay and Claudio back in the ring now. Hero shoves the back of Jay, distracting him while Claudio hits boots and uppercuts. Tag to Hero. Claudio chokes Jay in the corner while Hero charges with a boot to the gut. Elbows and knees to Jay. Hero tries to slam Jay’s head into the top turnbuckle but he gets his foot up. Jay strikes back and Castagnoli grabs the blind tag while Jay’s going for an Irish whip. Hero flips over rope and hits the charging Jay Briscoe with his boot. Mark comes over and forearms Hero to outside. Jay nails Claudio with a boot. Mark’s up top and they hit an elbow drop/sidewalk slam combo. Good for 2. Mark tagged in and they Irish Whip Claudio and both shoulder block him from a 3 point stance and he’s sent to the floor with Hero. The Kings are teasing walking out on the match while the Briscoes are in the ring.

Claudio gets back in the ring and starts attacking Mark. Kick, uppercut, and stomps in the corner. Claudio hits an uppercut in the corner, poses for the crowd, and Irish whips Mark across the ring, which he reverses when he flips over Claudio after he’s charged. He hits a flying knee, looks like he’s going for the tag, but then hits a vertical suplex and gets a 2 count. Mark tags in Jay. They put the boots on him in the corner, and then proceed to launch him by the arms. Jay nails a running clothesline on Claudio in the corner, snapmares him down, and gets a running boot in Castagnoli’s face. He goes for the pin but Claudio kicks out at 2. They exchange shots on the way to their feet and Claudio whips Jay into the corner. Claudio charges but elevated over the top rope and on to the apron, then Jay forearms him to the floor and nails him with a front-flip plancha. Hero, on the apron, walks over to check on Claudio but Mark elbows him down to the floor as well, so that HE can hit a front-flip plancha of his own. Mark snap suplexes Hero on the floor while Jay throws Castagnoli into the barricade. Briscoes punching & kicking the Kings of Wrestling before Jay throws Claudio into the ring, since I believe they’re still the legal men. Jay elevates Claudio for a vertical suplex facebuster. 1, 2, kickout by Claudio. They exchange forearms and Jay gets the advantage. Jay tries to hit a running clothesline but Claudz ducks and hits him with a flying European uppercut off the middle rope! He rolls over to his corner and gets the tag to Hero. Tag to Mark, who hits a crossbody off the top turnbuckle. Pin attempt for 2. Slaps and chops on Hero, followed by a big headbutt when Chris is backed up against the ropes. Drives his head into the top turnbuckle, and gives him a big chop to the chest. Punches him in the face in the next corner. More strikes followed by an Irish whip attempt, but Chris goes for one of his deadly elbow strikes, and Mark catches him in an exploder suplex attempt. Chris elbows out and hits a back suplex. Hero’s to his feet first as Mark crawls towards the ropes. Hero with the crossface strikes while Mark is draped over the second rope. The ref pulls Hero off, which allows Sara Del Ray slaps Mark across his face! The ref’s onto her and she gets thrown out. Hagadorn’s arguing with him but he’s still allowed at ringside.

Back in the ring, Hero gives the distracted Mark Briscoe a big boot and locks him in a headlock. Claudio tags in while Mark pushes Chris off and Mark slides underneath the running Hero. Castagnoli grabs Hero and Irish whips him into Mark and Hero connects with an elbow to the head! Claudio delivers rapid-fire forearms on a downed Mark Briscoe. The ref pulls him off. Mark gets an elbow to Claudio’s midsection but Castagnoli fires back with a European uppercut. Tag to Hero. They fake Irish whip Mark but send him back-first into their corner. Hero hits a crossface forearm from behind, knocking Mark down only for Chris to follow up with a senton and get a 2 count from it. They exchange strikes and Mark runs the ropes and runs into a back toss by Hero, but holds on and goes for a Sunset flip, but Hero makes the tag before Mark gets him down. Claudio jumps in and hits a diving European uppercut to the back of Briscoe’s neck. Goes for a pin but only gets the 2 count. Claudio gets the leg of Mark and puts him in a horse-collar stretch. Mark kicks Claudz in the face to get out of that, but CC lays the boots on him and hits another uppercut. Irish whip to the corner and CC charges but Briscoe gets the boot up. Running neckbreaker and they’re both down! Briscoe needs to tag and he jumps for it, but Claudio intercepts and picks Mark up on to his shoulder and drives him into the King’s corner. Tag to Hero. Nice kick to the face of Mark in the corner! Claudio poses on the outside. Hero chokes Mark with his boot. Exchange of punches and Hero hits an elbow that sends Briscoe into the corner. Claudio grabs him and is choking him so Chris can kick him in the midsection. Tag to Claudio. Double Irish whip and they go for a double big boot, but Mark stuffs the kicks down and unleashes forearms on them, but they’re too much for him and Claudz catches him and holds him for Hero to hit a Hart Attack-style elbow! Claudio bridges over him but only gets a 2 count. Claudio drops the knee and tries for another pin but only gets 1. Mark is thrown to the outside for Hero to take care of while the ref yells at Claudio.

Hero throws Briscoe hard into the barricade. More strikes and Hero rolls Mark into Claudio. Pin attempt for 2 and Claudio goes for another horse collar but Mark gets to the bottom rope. Tag to Hero. Claudio holds Mark for Hero to chop him. Knee strikes and Mark is thrown to the floor again. Now Claudio hits a snap suplex on Mark outside the ring. The ref gets on Hero. Hagadorn does something to Mark’s face (bad camera angle). Mark’s back in the ring and the Kings split his legs apart. Claudio’s the legal man now. Claudio poses on Mark but he starts to fight back, so Claudz uppercuts him. Unidentified Flying Opponent on Mark. No hands! 1…2…kickout. Claudio tags in Christopher Hero. Double Irish whip into a Royal Bomb by the Kings! Hero goes for a pin but Mark kicks out at 2! Tag to Claudio and he runs over and cheap shots Jay. Jay tries to get in but the ref holds him back. Claudio has Mark’s arms tied up for Hero. Hero goes for a big elbow but nails Claudio in the head! Mark gets a back suplex on Hero and all 3 are down. Mark rolls under a double clothesline attempt from the Kings and he GETS THE HOT TAG TO JAY (FINALLY a hot tag that the audience reacts to tonight!)!

Flying crossbody takes out both Kings! Clotheslines for the Kings and a superkick for Claudio followed by an Irish Whip/Dropkick combo on Hero! And a clothesline sends Hero over the top rope to the floor! Boot to Claudio and Jay picks him up for a DVD but CC wiggles out and hits a European uppercut. He runs to the ropes and comes back to a kick to the midsection. Jay’s going for the Jay-Driller and he HITS IT! 1….2…HERO breaks it up! But Mark’s here with some redneck Kung-fu on Hero and tosses him to the outside. Jay elevates CC on his shoulders and they go for the Doomsday Device but Hero gets an elbow to the back of Mark before he can jump, giving Claudio the opening to drop down and drill Jay with a German suplex. Mark’s leg is hooked on the ropes and Hero is choking the hanging Briscoe on the outside! The ref’s distracted by this and Hagadorn makes his way into the ring! He tries for a piledriver on Jay but gets flipped over. Jay backs Shane up but he gets kicked in the balls! Claudio makes his way over for the pin. 1….2……3 and that’s all!

Result: The Kings of Wrestling win by pinfall @ 19:00.
Rating: ***3/4

Papa Briscoe storms the ring and is attacking Shane Hagadorn, but the Kings manage to drag him out of there.

Mike Briscoe has a microphone: Don’t interfere in the boys’ business. I’ll be damned if I let a crackerhead like you kick my boy in the balls.

The Briscoe family stands tall in the ring and they raise their arms as the show closes.

Final Thoughts: A pretty good main event this week but the ending was a little deflating. It did a great job building up tension for Mark’s hot tag to Jay though, and it was a lot better than the other two meaningless tag matches on the show.
