411's WWE Raw Report 01.09.12
Posted by Ryan Byers on 01.09.2012
Kane laid out both John Cena and Zack Ryder to end the show, Chris Jericho followed up on last week's much talked about return, and Brodus Clay actually debuted! Get all the details on the show with 411's WWE RAW Report!
Welcome to 411's LIVE WWE Raw Report 01.09.12
Championship Roll Call: WWE Champion: CM Punk World Champion: Daniel Bryan US Champion: Zack Ryder IC Champion: Cody Rhodes Unified Diva's Champion: Beth Phoenix WWE World Tag Team Champions: Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne
Kane opens the show with a promo. He tells everybody in the crowd that they hate their spouses, jobs, and children, though they don't "embrace it." He says people chant "Cena Sucks" because he embodies the success that they cannot achieve and because they're not embracing the hate. I have absolutely no idea what the point of this angle is, and Kane just confused me further. The Big Red Machine's attention to Zack Ryder, who he runs down because he is a product of the fans. Kane says that he wants consequences for failing to embrace the hate. WHY?! John Cena runs in to put this godawful promo out of its misery, and they brawl in the aisle. The fight spills backstage, with Kane dominating and also punching out a few random security guards. We go outside to a loading dock and tease going off the side of it, but Kane throws Cena into some pipes instead. Cena wacks Kane in the knee with a crowbar, but the Devil's Favorite Demon no-sells it and punches Cena to send him flying into a pile of cardboard boxes. When Cena gets up again, Kane has vanished. And we hit the commercial break. What an anti-climatic brawl.
Match Numero Uno: Sheamus & Santino Marella vs. Wade Barrett & Jinder Mahal
Michael Cole says that what Mahal wears during his ring entrance is the "Indian version" of a turban, while Lawler says "Who cares what he wraps around his head?" Somebody get these guys some sensitivity classes, STAT.
Mahal and Santino start, but it's not long before Barrett gets in, starting the process of the heels trading off and getting the heat on our favorite faux Italian. Santino escapes a Marella chinlock with a jawbreaker, and Sheamus gets the not-so-hot tag after the match has been ongoing for about ninety seconds. Sheamus runs wild on Jinder with forearms, knocks Wade Barrett off the apron, and blasts Mahal with the brogue kick. Santino wants to tag back in and Sheamus lets him do so, setting up the cobra for a three count. This was too short to be either good or bad.
Winners: Sheamus & Santino Marella
Miz and Johnny Ace are backstage, and the former is complaining about not getting any protection from R-Truth. Ace says he can't do too much because he's got a lot on his plate, including the debut of Brodus Clay this evening. I'll believe that when I see it. Ace also makes sure to mention to Miz that he's not Little Jimmy . . . he's Big Johnny.
We're back from commercial, and we're getting the announcement of the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame for 2012. (Well, aside from Mil Mascaras, who was announced in a non-televised segment when they did the TV tapings in Mexico last year.) It's Edge. He gets a pretty standard video package for a Hall of Fame inductee. He was going to go in eventually, but this seems a little too soon after his retirement . . . but, then again, this is the HOF that includes Vince McMahon's limo driver, so who am I to question anything.
Backstage, Miz is having an unheard conversation with Mason Ryan, presumably trying to recruit him as a bodyguard. Mason blows him off.
Zack Ryder is on his cell phone with his dad, threatening to beat up Kane if he finds him tonight. Eve Torres walks up, and Ryder says that the two of them should go on a date. Eve says she'll do it, but after her match tonight against Beth Phoenix. After Ryder walks off camera, Kane reveals that he's been hiding in a closet.
We're at commercial, so I feel like I should plug Part 1 of 411 Wrestling's Year End Awards. Part 2 should be up around midnight eastern.
Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan
This match was apparently set up by a video on WWE.com in which Kofi questioned how Bryan beat the Big Show this past Friday night on Smackdown. Normally I'm not a huge fan of running angle son the website, but if it's a choice between giving a little backstory for this on the web or just throwing it out there with no story at all, putting the angle up online is preferable.
Bryan gives Kofi a handshake to start the match. The World Champ misses a charge in the corner and runs into a boot, with Kofi using a high cross to follow up. It gets two. Kingston misses a leaping kick and the wrestlers exchange cradles for nearfalls. Bryan does his backflip over Kingston's head spot, but Kofi is unphased and goes for another high cross. Bryan avoids it and Kingston lands awkwardly, albeit in perfect position for the LaBell Lock. Kofi taps, and we've got another two minute match on the show.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
I find it interesting that, even though Daniel Bryan is apparently turning heel, they've still got Cole badmouthing him on commentary . . . so is Cole turning face as part of this as well? In any event, Big Show comes out after the bell. He's got a mic, but, before he can say anything, Bryan starts cutting a GREAT disingenuous heel promo about how he hated the finish, feeling it hurt the prestige of the championship. He says he'll give Show a rematch any time, and, of course, the giant tells us that Teddy Long has already signed the match for Friday on Smackdown in a no count out, no DQ match. Daniel does a good job of subtly showing us that he's scared shitless. Show offers a handshake and Bryan reluctantly accepts. CODE OF HONOR!
This was a pretty fun segment, all things considered.
They claim Brodus Clay is debuting after the commercial break. I've got $5 that says something happens that prevents his match from actually taking place.
Brodus Clay vs. Curt Hawkins
Justin Roberts refers to Brodus as the "Funkasaurus" and claims that he hails from Planet Funk. He's using Ernest "The Cat" Miller's short lived WWE entrance music, and he also appears to have stolen Flash Funk's Funkettes. Clay starts dancing around the ring in a giant track suit, and he gets some pyro from the corners when he's done. This may grow on me with time, but I was so looking forward to Clay as a serious heel that I'm not thrilled with it right now.
Clay does a bunch of gyrating and hits an exploder suplex. A King Kong Bundy Avalance and a cross body block later, and Brodus gets the three count in his relaunch. He dances with the Funkettes again post match.
Winner: Brodus Clay
Loser: Any Chance Brodus Clay Ever Had of Being a Draw
Zack Ryder is brushing his teeth backstage and congratulating himself on getting a date with Eve. He gets scared of something that I apparently completely missed and runs out of the room. Okay then.
Miz is trying to get the Colons to be his backup, but they don't take the deal. CM Punk walks by and laughs.
CM Punk vs. Jack Swagger w/ Vickie Guerrero & Dolph Ziggler
They're playing this up as Swagger, who is Dolph's stablemate, softening up Punk for Ziggler's title match at the Royal Rumble. Before Punk even finishes his entrance, Johnny Ace interrupts. He says that, in order to prove to Punk that he can be a fair man, he's adding a stipulation to tonight's match: If Punk wins tonight, Swagger and Vickie will be barred from ringside at the Rumble. Ace also books Ziggler in a match tonight against John Cena since Punk has to wrestle tonight.
The two engage in some basic mat wrestling early, but then they wind up in the corner and start kicking each other. Punk wins the exchange and slams Swagger, then heading up to the top for the Randy Savage elbow. Jack runs off and rolls out of the ring before Punk leaps, taking a bit of a breather. When he reenters the ring, he gets the upper hand thanks to some forearms the to back. Punk ducks a clothesline and hits a cross body, following up with a clothesline of his own. The All American takes back over by going to the WWE Champ's leg, and then he applies a double chicken wing submission. Punk powers out of it, but Swagger quickly grabs him again and applies a waistlock. Swagger throws Punk from the ring when it looks like he's going to recover, and Johnny Ace actually prevents Ziggler from interfering. As soon as Punk gets back into the ring, he clotheslines Swagger out, setting up a tope suicida and a commercial break.
When we come back, Punk is dishing out some forearms, but Swagger cuts him off with a big blow and gets a two count. Swagger continues to dish out some fairly basic offense, but Punk responds with kneelifts and a Shake, Rattle, 'n' Roll. The big knee in the corner also hits, but Swagger throws Punk off when he tries the bulldog and immediately hits his Vader Bomb. That was a pretty good idea for a sequence. Swagger starts yelling at Punk to stay down (even though he never pins anybody with that move), and Punk catches him in the face with a boot when he tries another Vader Bomb. The champ looks for his slingshot clothesline, but Swagger catches him and hits a powerslam. Swagger and Punk both tease the finishers, culminating in Swagger hitting a belly-to-belly for two. Swags places the Chicagoan on the top rope for a suplerplex, but Punk fights him off and shoves him down to the mat. The Savage elbow connects, and the finish is royally screwed up, as Swagger kicks out before three but the ref still calls for the bell and declares Punk the winner.
On the replay, you could tell that, as soon as Swagger's shoulder popped up, Punk was grabbing at his arm to pull him into an Anaconda Vice, possibly for an improvised finish, but the ref just called for the bell anyway.
CM Punk does not look happy AT ALL. Finish aside, this was a pretty fun little TV match, albeit one that moved at a slower pace than what we're used to from Punk and Ziggler when they lock it up.
Zack Ryder and John Cena are backstage again, and Ryder says he's feeling "weirded out." Cena points out that Zack is now one of the five most-followed WWE wrestlers on Twitter. Yeehaw. Ryder acts paranoid again.
After a commercial, Ricardo Rodriguez is talking to the Bella Twins, who apparently called him here so that he could take a message back to Alberto Del Rio in Mexico. Miz interrupts and tells Ricardo that he wants him to go to the ring and call out R-Truth. Initially the young ring announcer refuses, but Miz intimidates him into doing it. "Andele," says Miz. Wow, not a good night for that sort of thing between this and the turban talk earlier.
We get another Hall of Fame inductee, and it is . . . THE FOUR HORSEMEN. Specifically, the name J.J. Dillon, Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, and Barry Windham. No mention of original member Ole Anderson, though that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Also, before the comment section says it, no Paul Roma. NO PAUL ROMA. I have no idea whether TNA and WWE will work something out that allows Flair to appear at the ceremony or whether it'll just be the crew without the Nature Boy.
Ricardo is in the ring after the video package, halfheartedly insulting R-Truth. Truth, of course, comes out, and his first line is "Lucy, I'm home!" Jesus. Truth says he doesn't understand why Ricardo would want to pick a fight with him, so apparently he wasn't watching the show five minutes ago. Truth asks Little Jimmy if he should let Rodriguez go, and the crowd responds positively. Truth calls Ricardo a cockroach and makes him sing "La Cucaracha." They better pray that whatever the Latino equivalent of GLAAD is doesn't have anybody watching the show. Eventually Ricardo just slaps Truth across the face for no reason, leading to Truth attacking Ricardo and Miz attacking Truth. However, before he can get too far, Truth thumbs him in the eyes and double legs him, causing Miz to run away. Least. Effective. Heel. Ever.
Side note: Am I the only one who thinks that Truth doing his schtick as a babyface is starting to sound like Bill Cosby?
More commercials.
Chris Jericho and his jacket are back when we come back. He does the same over-enthusiastic faux babyface routine that he did last week, though this time he goes a bit farther with being "teared up" by the crowd's reaction. Speaking of the crowd's reaction, it is almost exactly what it was last week, as they've big into the "Y2J" chants at first but eventually turn on him and start booing. Once he hears the boos, Jericho walks off again, with even more exaggerated crying, and that's it for the segment. No words, once again.
Eve Torres vs. Beth Phoenix Kane
Funny thing is that the first few notes of Beth and Kane's theme songs are similar, so, when Kane's music started to play after Eve's entrance, I just figured they'd given Beth's tune a remix. Zack Ryder immediately runs out and pulls Torres out of the arena, putting her a car. He notices that the tire is conveniently flat and starts to change it. We cut away in the middle of Ryder trying to change a tire. This made Zack look like such a geek in so many ways. First, shouldn't a top babyface be willing to stand up to Kane, even he he gets his ass kicked? Why run away like a pansy? Second, if you think you're in imminent danger and you're going to run away and you find a flat tire on your car, why would your first reaction be to change it? Come up with an alternate plan on the fly or . . . better yet . . . DRIVE AWAY ON THE FLAT TIRE. It's not good for your car and it's not something I would normally advise doing, but, if you're in mortal danger, it's possible. Is your suspension more important to you than your life?
Oh, god, it's not over. Zack is still trying to change the tire after the commercial break. And then they cut away to Dolph Ziggler in the ring. Now Ryder looks even worse than he did before because apparently, despite having his plight broadcast on national television, Zack is such a loser that nobody will do anything to help him out, even though he and his girlfriend are apparently going to be murdered. Or chokeslammed. Or something.
John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler
The wrestlers do some clothesline-related spots off the ropes early and, about thirty seconds in, Ziggler hits his Rocker Dropper out of nowhere. It only gets two, but Dolph gets to stay on top and puts the boots to Cena in the corner. Ziggler slaps on a headlock and does a headstand while he's got the hold applied, which isn't a horrible spot for a braggart character. He drops a series of elbows and stops to do sit-ups, missing an elbow after the calisthenics wrap up. Cena starts doing his normal comeback, but, after the blue thunder driver, Zack Ryder changing a tire pops up on the Titantron. Kane finally jumps the guy (couldn't have done that five minutes ago?) and chokeslams him off the loading dock that we saw at the start of the show. Cena tries to run to his aid, but Ziggler has his sleeper hold on. Eventually Cena slams him into the steps and runs off, COMPLETELY no-selling the sleeper even though it was on him for about a minute. Cena runs outside and Kane, not surprisingly, jumps him and applies the jaw claw. The sleeper didn't do anything, but that move manages to put Cena out. Kane stands over Cena and Ryder's limp bodies and grunts to end the show.
This was a really bottom of the barrel show aside form a couple of segments, i.e. Daniel Bryan's promo, Punk/Swagger, and Chris Jericho. Everything else was either pointless or awful and combined to make the show an easy thumbs down.

I'm a Zack Ryder fan, but even I will say the Kane/Zack Ryder "horror movie" segments make those of Ultimate Warrior/Papa Shango look like freakin' "Gone With The Wind".

Chris Jericho hates the U.S. military! Did anyone else notice that he was giving everyone high fives at ringside and then stopped immediately when he reached the three military members?

Ryan Byers extended comments makes it worth reading. You should recap TNA the same way. IWC, remember its a boring recap unless you spice it up mmmmk?

only person that trolls 411mania or any wrestling site are wes kirk supporters/TNA marks.. tho chris jericho trolled better than wes kirk trolls. once jericho starts talking, he will be calling people hypocrites left and right. soon RVD will leave TNA for WWE. that could be the trend for this year in pro wrestling. major stars leaving TNA for WWE... i think that alone will help WWE network get noticed. with more star power. a lot of returns in WWE as of late.

Those security guards that Kane punched should hold a vote of no confidence and walk out next week. Sounds like RAW has become a dangerous work environment.

Dude, I respect that you have opinions you want to share and you have an outlet to do so, but please keep the Raw Report objective as possible. Thank you.
Posted By: Greg T. (Guest) on January 09, 2012 at 11:40 PM
One of the worst Raw's I've seen. Just horrendous. Zack Ryder took many step backwards tonight with some horrible acting. Jericho wasting another 5 minutes of Raw where if it was any other wrestler the majority of the Internet would be bitching and moaning about how that time would be better used for matches. R-truth getting very little reaction due to a not well-developed face turn. All the Kane segments bad. The outdoor stuff with Cena/Kane Ryder/Kane all horrible. I don't normally complain about Raw and have enjoyed shows alot of people hated but tonight was just bad.
Posted By: Jimjoebob (Guest) on January 09, 2012 at 11:54 PM
Go away Chris Jericho. You will not be missed.
Posted By: Guest#1891 (Guest) on January 09, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Can someone please explain the Kane-Cena feud to me? Here's what I got so far:
Mark Henry broke Kane's leg so Kane went home to play with matches and break some mirrors until he felt like wearing his mask again. Then he came back and decided to attack Cena because some fans don't like Cena and Cena doesn't care but he should or something like that, which is apparently a better reason to be mad than someone breaking your leg.
Now Kane hangs out in hell, which is apparently under the ring, and wants to drag Cena and all his friends down with him. Oh and he hates the fans for hating everyone while not admitting it, and Zack Ryder because the fans like him. So now he's going to keep cartoonishly fighting Cena and stare at people brushing their teeth until they embrace hate!
Does this make sense to anyone or am I missing something here? And I don't buy the whole "Kane's a monster" argument, because this whole thing has just been goofy to me. It's not intimidating or scary, it just makes me want to change the channel.
Posted By: Confused (Guest) on January 09, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Where's the star ratings, broski? And jeez, you seemed to be grumpy tonight reviewing the show. You crapped all over *everything*.
Posted By: Jonbear (Guest) on January 09, 2012 at 11:56 PM
You're comments on Zach Ryder show how you absolutely and completely do not get his character at all. Zach Ryder IS A GEEK! HE SAYS SO HIMSELF! His freaking "girlfriend" was PRINCESS LEIA! If he stood up to Kane he'd be just like every other tough guy musclehead on the roster. What he does is what sets him apart. Damn man! REALLY?
Posted By: Guest#5355 (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 12:01 AM
"Truth calls Ricardo a cockroach and makes him sing "La Cucaracha." They better pray that whatever the Latino equivalent of GLAAD is doesn't have anybody watching the show."
I get what you're saying but... um... that's not exactly a match. If this was a game of Memory you'd have to flip the squares back over and try again.
Posted By: Guest#6328 (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Jericho should have stayed away. I have zero interest in this nonsense. Just like the Rock - the material is dated.

...and Byers wonders why his columns get next to zero comments, with only a handful of hits?
This is why.

So much hope for a Brodus Clay as Bundy redux, they could so use the 5 count with the guy and make him a monster but alas not to be. And does this explain all of Kane's anger is he's been in the closet all this time?
Posted By: guest666 (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 01:05 AM
"...this is the HOF that includes Vince McMahon's limo driver..."
And who the hell is this limo driver you are referring to?
Posted By: Kristian (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 01:09 AM
So I'm supposed to believe that this is Jericho's all-time great brilliance again huh? I'll only believe that it's going somewhere. Other than that, all it makes me do is turn the channel. I'm sure the feud he gets into will be great but I'm just not buying into the so-called brilliance, the mystique, the intrigue, of THESE PAST TWO WEEKS as others are. As for Brodus Clay, anybody can come back from anything, but that was just horrible. I do wanna mention some good though.....The Four horseman are being inducted! Best stable ever and best moment of the whole show. Too bad Ole won't be inducted, if I'm not mistaken he's not in good standing with Vince, I forgot over what though.

Jericho said he'd never wrestle for the WWE. So far he's been on RAW but hasn't wrestled or talked. I however think that he's doing some kinda break-down gimmick. The fans cheer him but because he doesn't promo when they want him or like he use to they turn on him and start booing. So instead of saying anything he's just leaves. This week in tears. I think this is going to go on for awhile until he finally snaps and takes out whoever the fans cheer for the most. Since Cena is busy at Mania, I'm gathering it'll be Ryder vs Kane too. So that leaves Punk. I bet he still doesn't talk during that feud but let's he's actions do the talking for him. When has a wrestlers gimmick been one who doesn't talk and not been to cover up the fact that the wrestler can't talk? I can't think of one. Pure genius if ya ask me.

Few notes: Loved the Brodus Clay Funkasaurus! wasn't looking forward to his debut, but that was entertaining.
Jericho again doesn't speak and I really enjoyed it. Much like the audience, I'm really wanting to hear him speak and see where this goes, but they're making us wait, and I like it.
Really liked the Swagger/Punk match. Reminded me why I like Jack Swagger. Not sure about that ending it looked like Punk was gonna transfer into the Anaconda Vice.

I predict Jericho won't talk until the Raw after the Rumble. He'll cost Punk the title, and talk the following night. Just a guess.
Posted By: Guest#3223 (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 01:59 AM
This was a really horrible episode of RAW. Is it really surprising that the recap is crap too?
The future of the WWE isn't looking too hot. TNA on the other hand is getting better and better. TNA is the future people, the WWE is dying a slow, painful death that will be accelerated by the launch of their ill-fated network.
RIP WWE.

No one is seeing the bigger picture of this John Cena/Zack Ryder/Kane situation...Cena is gonna turn heel on Zack Ryder who is the most over guys on the roster right now. Fan favorite. Instant Heat on Cena going into WM.
Posted By: Guest#4733 (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 02:22 AM
I think the kick-out into the Vice is the actual finish for Swagger-Punk. Swagger doesn't want to look even MORE jobber by losing to a transitional spot and Punk is happy to oblige by putting Swagger into his submission finisher to end things.
Danielson as a heel is awesome, but i hate to think this will only result in more non-clean finishes for him. He should out wrestle Big Show, and then do eye pokes and back rakes just because he feels like it.

Last nights Raw was a big steaming turd with the exception of the HOF announcements.

guys, stop complaining about how long jericho is riding this out. its been a while since the wwe has had something slowly build, so it could be interesting. complainers - take a time out

Jericho's "doing nothing" segment was still the best thing of the night. Cannot wait until he starts tearing everyone apart on the mic and schools(hopefully) CM Punk at Mania(and I love Punk). Seriously, you have to be retarded to not understand the heel burn he's making here!!! This is way better than his return as his Codebreaker!!!

Chris Jericho hates the U.S. military! Did anyone else notice that he was giving everyone high fives at ringside and then stopped immediately when he reached the three military members?

WWE has got the WCW virus, this is WCW 2000-2001 right here. There's no direct competition and the production values are high so it's not that noticeable. But this is obviously not good TV. People exaggerate every little bit of a promo or a match that's any good, but overall, it's pretty lame. Good thing you can always skim through the reports and avoid bad programming.
Posted By: L. (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 06:07 AM
Man I haven't been here in ages. Haven't watched any wrestling in a few months. Haven't even been keeping up very well even. But even though Raw was overall fairly uneventful, I am so glad I came back tonight. The Funkasaurus was so worth it. I warmed up to him like the crowd as the match played out & I am now totally on board! The playful smacktalk/crowd interaction was a brilliant little touch that really sold me. It's little things like that that tell me a performer is all in on what they are doing out there. Brodus Clay, regardless of the character we were given, was so very very worth the wait.
Rest of the show:
Kane/Cena/Ryder- I dunno if it's poor execution or if Kane is too rehashed for me to get into it, but it didn't do anything for me. Maybe it's just too high concept for everyone involved to fully pull off, but I LOVE the Jedi/Sith embrace the hate thing, and Kane and Cena are the exact right characters to tell the story. And Ryder making dippy decisions seems to be perfectly in character. It just... didn't... work. It's worth holding out hope for it to get better though, because it is pretty heady and ambitious material.
Jericho Returns- Another thing that seems better in concept than execution to me. It feels like there's something intelligent at play, but it just comes off kinda grating to me. Jericho's lack of subtlety may have hurt it.
Daniel Bryan heel turn- LOVED how that went. His charisma is so underrated/overshadowed by his in-ring talent, but damn he is great when he gets the chance to use it. There was some subtlety here, and it was fantastic.
I'm not sure if he's maybe had to grow into the role from the little scuttlebutt I've caught, but John Laurinaitis' weird combination of smug corporate weasel and douchebag jock was a definitely highlight.
Ziggler/Swagger/Vickie never did anything for me in the past, but the former two can hold my attention in the ring. CM Punk is a few notches higher, but I'm not die-hard fanboy, so it was all reasonably enjoyable except for the finish. Although the finish can be used to explain why ol' Ace has to ref the title match himself. Cuz he TOTALLY won't screw it up.
Big Finish: Sheamus is an amazing all-around talent, indifferent towards Mahal and Barrett, 3 minutes of Santino in the ring is enough. Sad Kofi/DBryan was so short. Two of my faves. Cannot love putting the Horseman in as a group hard enough. I think Tully is my favorite Horseman of all time. Preferred his cool & smooth high class character to Flair's over-the-top one. And the Slingshot Suplex is still probably my favorite move of all time.
Ha, almost out of room. Was nice to be back, and fun to watch wrestling again. Keep up the good work, Mr. Byers.
~Mr. GE!

So, am I the only one that thinks that the whole "Funkasaurus" Brodus Clay is going to end up something like the Se7en gimmick in WCW, where the guy just shits all over it at some point. While he was doing the dancing and whatnot, he had this look on his face like he knew that crap was not for him.
Posted By: Exodus (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 08:28 AM
That was godawful. The 2000 WCW comparison is incredibly accurate. Looking forward to Thunder on Thursday.

"I have no idea whether TNA and WWE will work something out that allows Flair to appear at the ceremony or whether it'll just be the crew without the Nature Boy."
There is NO WAY they haven't got an agreement for Flair to be there. HOF crowds are usually older and smarter, and they'll shit all over it if the Nature Boy isn't on stage.
As for Brodus, this odd Flash Funk/Rikishi gimmick will get over. And fast. Dude is taking the ball he's been handed and is running with it.

The IWC is dated. Now keep proving how hypocritical and cowardly you are, because you're supposed to boo heels, Jericho is playing the joke that is the IWC like a fiddle.

The whole point of Brodus Clay's character is that no matter what gimmick he has he can kick your arse. My first thought as he came out was this is going to be horrible, once he started wrestling though it was awesome, his dancing sucks but nontheless still awesome. This actually makes me want to watch next week just to see what he does next!

It's been an interesting run, WWE Raw. It's over. If there was such thing as the Cancellation Bear, I think it would be lurking right now. What an awful, awful show.
Posted By: Bleh (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 01:48 PM
Should someone get fired for this mess?
Magic 8-Ball- All signs point to yes.
Also, Cena-Kane feud should be an instant contender for #1 spot on the worst, most pointless feud of all time. Could be worse than the Kane-Jericho feud over spilt coffee. The feud could be done so simply, with Kane being upset with Cena for not embracing the hate of the crowd, which he feels could be used to bring out the "darkness" in Cena. Simple message. It's easy to book to with Kane setting up situations to bring out Cena's darkside ie requesting hardcore matches, etc. But it's so convoluted now, adding Zach Ryder and Eve.
Posted By: Bleh (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 01:52 PM
RAW was bad this week. The Clay stuff was awful Wrestlecrap, Jericho is still interesting but now it's dragging on, and Cena's feud with Kane is becoming silly and thus damaging Ryder's heat in the process. On the bright side, Bryan had a good match, if quick, and I like his building to becoming heel.

I really enjoyed RAW last night.
Two things had me laughing out loud. 1) when Brodus Clay suplexed Hawkins and got up and said "My bad!" and 2) When Ricardo put the little remix spin on La Cucaracha.
Yes Jericho is brilliant, this will all be worth it. When he started fake crying I just started laughing (OK that's 3 things)
I think the Punk/Swagger match was suppose to end that way so that "Big Johhny" (OK that's 4 things) can play up the fact that he needs to be the ref. I think they'll have a rematch next week and Ickky and Swagger will be aloud back at ringside for the Rumble.
"This made Zack look like such a geek in so many ways. Is your suspension more important to you than your life?"-Ryan Byers
These are the reasons you sited for Ryder looking like a geek? How about the fact that he tried to change a tire without jacking the car up first!!! This had me on the floor laughing(OK that was 5 things) Can't belive no one commented on that.
I hate to be all "I'm sure no one in the IWC ever had to change a tire in there mom's basement." but I can't be the only one who caught that.

It's great to see Byers is doing this, as he is a good writer and always has an interesting and pretty unique critique.
That said, these opinions are wrong:
1. The wacky "you didn't see this coming" funkasaurus gimmick is going to get wildly over. Not because it's necessarily a good gimmick to give anyone, but because it stands out enough to let Brodus get himself over (Creative would forget about him if he was just a big angry guy). He's very charismatic and witty, and fun to watch in the ring even when not gyrating.
2. Any segment featuring Ryder should make him look like a geek. Because he *is* a geek! That's his gimmick, and people love it. Being a goofy geek is not a great way to build to a world title, but that's not what he's doing.
3. The bits about Jinder's turban and RR singing "La cucaracha" really weren't offensive. The first bit was boring, mildly informative, and irrelevant. The latter fun and harmless. The stuff to which GLAAD objected was genuinely irresponsible and hateful.

It doesn't makes sense for Kane to tell the fans that they chant Cena sucks, and then say that they don't embrace the hate. Um, what? They are embracing the hate, by,.....um,.....chanting.........Cena sucks. Did the writers actually write this promo on paper for Kane to memorize, or are they just giving him bullet points and letting in fill in the blanks? It makes no sense, either way.

Exactly what I was thinking. If your tire is flat, the least you could do is RUN AWAY. Or flag down a cop in the building who has a gun on his side or find the crowbar that Cena hit Kane with and use it on Kane again. I mean, yeah, there are faster and easier things to do than change a tire. Really?

Nobody wants your fucking opinion or your terrible jokes Byers, just a recap. You're not funny and you never have been.
Posted By: Byers is the Worst (Guest) on January 10, 2012 at 12:39 AM
Actually, Byers *IS* funny and his opinions make sense. Why didn't Ryder and Eve just run away or drive on the flat tire? He is just pointing out some of the sillyness of it all. If Byers didn't add some color or give opinions or say what EVERYONE is thinking when the watch the show, he'd be accused of being dull or flat in his recaps. If you think can do a better job at Raw recaps or anything else, then apply for the one of those jobs the next time Csonka runs an ad for 411 writers.
Posted By: Chico (Guest) on January 11, 2012 at 12:57 PM
This was a really horrible episode of RAW. Is it really surprising that the recap is crap too?
The future of the WWE isn't looking too hot. TNA on the other hand is getting better and better. TNA is the future people, the WWE is dying a slow, painful death that will be accelerated by the launch of their ill-fated network.
RIP WWE.

You're supposed to LOOSEN the lug nuts before you jack up the car, then REMOVE the lugs nut and the tire AFTER you jack the car up. The reason for that is to give yourself leverage against the lug nuts. If you jack the car up before you try to loosen the lug nuts, the tire will just spin around and the lug nuts will not come loose. After they cut away to the Cena/Ziggler match and then cut back to Ryder at the car again, the car was jacked up at that point.
