RING KA KING- EPISODE #2

Hello. I am Jack Stevenson. I will be keeping you up to date with the latest happenings from the TNA offshoot promotion, Ring Ka King. This episode is not the most recent, but I’m hoping to catch up from where we left off, which was episode one. So here’s episode two of three. Try to enjoy!

Last week, the roster was introduced, Sir Brutus Magnus, Scott Steiner and Sonjay Dutt formed an unlikely alliance under the orders of their mysterious boss, and Mahabali Veera and Matt Morgan advanced in the Ring Ka King championship tournament. Tonight, Scott Steiner takes on the faux-shooter Maxx B, while Chavo Guerrero takes on Sonjay Dutt to complete the quarter finals.

Jazzy Lahoria and his hulking bodyguard Deadly Danda make their way down to the ring to start off the show. Sadly, I don’t speak Hindi, and thus much of Lahoria’s speech is lost on me, but I do understand that he is introducing Chavo Guerrero! Chavo announces his own arrival, before admitting that being part of a world famous wrestling family comes with a price. He is expected to deliver excellence wherever he goes, and he does so for the fans! He thanks the Indian fans for having him here, and says he’s looking to become the first Ring Ka King champion. He’s interrupted by the appearance of the Sheiks and Raisha! One of the Sheiks is Shawn Daivari, reprising his Sheik Abdul Bashir gimmick, while Sheik Mustafa Bashir is played by Arya Daivari, who is Shawn’s real life younger brothers. Raisha is the excellent Cheerleader Melissa. Anyway, the Sheiks seem annoyed with Chavo, but I don’t understand what they’re saying, and neither does Chavo. He challenges them to a fight nonetheless, which initially seems to be a poor decision, as the Sheiks stomp him into the mat. Guerrero launches a fightback though, and clears the ring of his newfound enemies.

There is dissension in the locker room of Steiner, Magnus and Dutt, with the boss not best pleased with Magnus’ elimination, and Big Poppa Pump taking the Brit to task. Sonjay then says something in Hindi. I don’t know if Brutus understands. To the ring!

MATCH 1- RING KA KING TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL- SCOTT STEINER VS MAXX B

Now what could possibly go wrong here? As I’ve mentioned previously, Maxx B is part of the Indian contingent, and plays some sort of shoot fighter person.

Steiner attacks before the bell and pummels B in the corner. The pummeling continues, but Steiner varies things by doing it in different parts of the ring. Maxx comes back with some jabs but runs right into a belly to back suplex. Press-ups! Scott then chooses to berate the referee for whatever reason, before landing a belly to belly suplex for two. Steiner then gets a rope assisted STO, something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. A Steiner Recliner causes a quick submission. Post match, Scott locks the hold back in, forcing Sir Brutus Magnus to drag him away. The match was just a squash. It seems slightly odd that they’d go the trouble of giving Maxx B a gimmick, only to see him squashed, while Mahabali Veera won last week despite having no discernible character. These are minor details at this point I guess, though.

During the break, that sneaky Scott Steiner locked the Recliner back in. Maxx B has to be stretchered out of the arena.

The Sheiks accost Jazzy Lahoria in his office and, after an extended Hindi argument, demand they listen to their demands. Jazzy gives them a stern telling off in Hindi, and demands they do…something… else they will be fired. I think it’s to win their next match, but I’m not really sure. Anyway, Mickie James is coming to Ring Ka King soon!

MATCH 2- THE SHEIKS VS THE MUMBAI CATS

I do not know what these masked green men are meant to be, but their costumes say “Mumbai Cats” on them, so I guess that’s what they are. They don’t look much like cats though. Whatever they are, they put on a respectable, athletic tag match, although the Sheiks are always one step ahead of them. The Cats attempt to live up to their gimmick by occasionally making scratching motions. That’s pretty much the extent of their cat-ness. Arya Daivari looks crisp as he lands a spinebuster and a flying back elbow from the top rope. The Mumbai Cats make the hot tag (which the ground just don’t react to at all) and the match breaks down completely. The Sheiks soon retake control, and simultaneous frog splashes (creatively entitled ‘the Flying Sheiks’ gets the victory. The Mumbai Cats didn’t look at all bad in here. * ¼.

The Bollywood Boys cut a promo in Hindi. They promise to take the Ring Ka King tag team championship titles. As they leave, Mahabali Veera enters the picture, and I don’t understand a word he says.

MATCH 3- RING KA KING TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL- SONJAY DUTT VS CHAVO GUERRERO

Guerrero and Dutt run through some fast paced chain wrestling in the early going. Chavito misses a dropkick and takes a seated variant to the face. The Indian fans don’t seem to have taken to their countryman. Dutt drops his foe with a bodyslam and stops to taunt the crowd. He tries for a Springboard something or other, but Chavo catches him and sends him head over heels with a reverse Northern Lights suplex. The action spills to the floor, where Sonjay retakes control. He solidifies this with a draining chin lock back in the ring. Guerrero eventually powers out of it with a back suplex to bring the action to a stalemate. When both men return to their feet, Sonjay is quick to sweep the legs of Chavo away with a low dropkick. The Player from the Himalaya ascends to the top rope, but his high crossbody meets nothing but dropkick! Tilt a whirl headscissors by Chavo, and a slingshot crossbody right to the floor follows up! Guerrero then slingshots himself back in with a senton for two. SD (not Jones) fights back with a jawbreaker and springboard flying back elbow for two. And now it’s Guerrero on offence, landing two of his three suplexes before the Sheiks hit the ring to provide a distraction. Sonjay capitalizes with the Sonjay Cutter, and that’s enough for three, with his entrance music calamitously playing before the count had even finished! ** ¼. Comfortably the best match in Ring Ka King history. I’m not a huge fan of either man, but here they put on a solid, athletic, back and forth battle that was able to draw me in. This wouldn’t have looked out of place on ROH’s TV show.

So the semi-finals of the title tournament will see Matt Morgan face Sonjay Dutt, which should be pretty good, and Mahabali Veera take on Scott Steiner, which could be a disaster.

To conclude, Brutus Magnus informs the boss that both Steiner and Dutt won tonight, and assures the shadowy figure that the semi-finals will yield the same result, setting up an all “home-team” affair.
