WWE MAIN EVENT 1.09.13

PYRO~!

– Cole and Miz welcome us to the show and hype up Dolph Ziggler vs Sheamus.

– A video package of Sheamus airs. The music changes and it turns into a Ziggler video package. Great production as always.

– Matt Striker is backstage with Sheamus. Sheamus says that he’s not concerned with the fact that Dolph Ziggler holds the MITB briefcase. He’s going to win the Rumble again. Sheamus says that Ziggler can bring anybody he wants to the ring with him tonight and he’ll have a Brogue kick waiting for all of them.

– Josh Matthews stops Dolph Ziggler and company on the way to the ring and asks Dolph if he’s losing momentum after his match with Cena on Monday. Big E Langston answers for Dolph. Big E seems VERY comfortable on the mic. I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store for him.

Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/ AJ and Big E Langston)

The bell rings and we’re off. We get a feeling out process to start. That’s pretty fitting considering how many times these guys have wrestled each other over the past year. Sheamus takes early control, working over the left arm of Dolph Ziggler. An eye rake and a dropkick turns the tide in favor of Ziggler. Sheamus powers right back with a shoulder block and Big doesn’t look very pleased at ringside. Sheamus drops the leg for two, BROTHER. Sheamus gives Ziggler a flapjack but doesn’t get him up properly. His landing reminded me a bit of Cody’s a couple of months ago but luckily Dolph seems to be fine. Sheamus goes for a Brogue Kick but Ziggler rolls to the outside as we head to our first commercial break.

~Commercial Break!~

We’re back and Dolph is stomping a mudhole into Sheamus! He backs up and runs at Sheamus but misses! Sheamus stomps a mudhole of his own in rebuttal. That’s psychology right there. Dolph hits a nice swinging neck breaker before Sheamus can get in control too much. Ziggler lifts him back up by his hair and drops him with another neck breaker. The announcers are really putting Langston over on commentary. Miz mentions that he can dead lift 850 pounds. Impressive. Dolph locks on the sleeper and the big man begins to fade. Sheamus powers out! He runs at the Zig Zag Man but gets caught in a drop toe hold throat first on to the second rope. Ziggler’s keeping Sheamus grounded as the crowd starts to chant “Brogue”. Sheamus is fighting back! He hits the high running knee and tries to follow up with White Noise. Ziggler escapes to the apron but Sheamus catches him. 10 IRISH CHOPS TO THE CHEST~! He follows up with a shoulder tackle from the apron to the outside as we head to our second commercial break of the evening!

~Commercial Break~

Sheamus goes for a shoulder tackle from the apron but Ziggler reversed that into an X-Factor! Holy shit! TWO COUNT! That was pretty sick looking. Sheamus makes it to his knees and starts trading blows with Ziggler. He makes it to his feet and gives Ziggler the Irish Curse! Ziggler’s gets lifted up but he rolls through! Sheamus rolls through the roll through and locks in the Cloverleaf! Ziggler gets to the ropes! These two are pulling out all of the stops right now. Ziggler ends up back on the apron and Sheamus tries to suplex him in. No go! Ziggler chokes him on the top rope and hits a HUGE missile dropkick from the top rope! Sheamus makes it to his feet first and goes upstairs! Dolph catches him and hits an implant DDT directly from the top! Again, only two! Ziggler goes for a powerbomb but Sheamus reverses and hits a sloppy Alabama Slam. Sheamus hits the shoulder block from the top rope and gets two! It’s Brogue time! Ziggler ducks! Misses a kick of his own! Brogue kick! Ziggler rolls to the outside though! Sheamus goes to the outside and the ref is counting way faster than usual. Sheamus gets caught up staring Langston down and we have a double count out! Sheamus and Langston tease a fight before Langston retreats to the back. What a match! They had three segments to build this bad boy up and the last segment was just pure greatness. The non-finish worked fine in this instance.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Double Count Out @ 22:49
RATING: ***½

~Commercial Break~

RAW REBOUND: We get a recap of the CM Punk/Rock confrontation that closed out the show.

Wade Barrett vs. Zack Ryder

Lockup to start things off and Wade Barrett quickly takes control. The announcers won’t shut up about him so I think we all know what this match is here to accomplish. Ryder hits an arm drag after a few minutes of Wade dominating. Michael Cole is too busy pimping his web show with JBL to mention Ryder’s offense. I blinked and Barrett is back on offense. He hits a pump handle slam for two. Barrett gets him into a corner and throws some closed fists at the stomach. Ryder ducks a punch and whips Barrett into the ropes. A face plant gets Wade two. Ryder’s isolated in the corner again as Barrett lands some strong European upper cuts. Barrett sends him to the outside and taunts for the crowd as we head into our last commercial break of the night.

~commercial time~

We’re back with Barrett in control. Cole lets us know that Barrett has been in control for the entire commercial break. Barrett drops some elbows but only gets two. He wastes little time before dropping more elbows. He heads up to the second rope and drops one last elbow. Still, he only gets two. He locks on a headlock as Miz claims he’s going to win the Royal Rumble again. Ryder powers out of the headlock as the crowd cheers “Let’s go Ryder”. Ryder hits a missile dropkick from the top! He sets Barrett up for the Broski Boot but Wade rolls to the outside. Ryder chases him back in and gets caught with a tilt-a-whirl. Zack hits a neck breaker out of nowhere and gets a 2.99999. Barrett charges at him but finds himself in position for another Broski Boot. Ryder quickly covers but only gets two! Ryder signals for the Rough Ryder but Barrett ducks and tosses him into the top turnbuckle. Bull Hammer! That’s all.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Wade Barrett @ 11:24 via pin
RATING: **

– Michael Cole announces that we’re going to get Antonio Cesaro vs Randy Orton next week!

OVERALL: Tonight’s Main Event was a very good show. Sheamus/Ziggler was an awesome match that I’d recommend going out of your way to see. Also, the Barrett Barrage continued with Wade looking as strong as ever. Ryder was a perfect foil to make Barrett look great. I’ll see you guys on Friday for the Smackdown report!
