“Old School” Superstars!

The Usos vs. Team Rhodes Scholars:   They omit the top of the stage for the entrances so you miss the Raw letters. Pre-match, Sandow (with current logo microphone) says that the tag division is full of tomfoolery. Cody calls it a “reunion of sorts.” You’re welcome. I think it would have been cool if they dusted off the old Superstars ring apron. Sandow and Jey Uso open and hits a shoulderblock. Uso comes back with a Superfly double chop. A tag is made and the Usos hit tandem elbow drops. Rhodes gets a tag and Jimmy mocks the Love-stache. Cody rams Jimmy into the buckles headfirst but that fails as usual and Jimmy takes over; Cody tries to counter a boot but gets put on his ass. Jey tags in; Cody manages to avoid a double superkick by retreating to the floor. He and Sandow confer on the floor and get planted with double baseball slides. Back from commercial, the Usos are dominating Sandow with a whip into a crossbody for two. Jimmy tags in and hits a top-rope sledge. Sandow reverses a whip, Rhodes provides a distraction, and they knock Jimmy off the ropes and take over. Here’s Cody for a release gourdbuster; the Scholars continue to dominate in the corner and Sandow hits the Russian leg sweep/Cubito Aequet combo for a nearfall. Sandow applies a chinlock and we get a weird crowd shot which does not appear to jibe with the broadcast. We cut back with Jimmy making a comeback with a clothesline. Jey tags in as does Cody; he hits clotheslines and an uppercut. He sails in with a leaping punch and the Samoan Avalanche for two. Rhodes makes the comeback with a Goldust Punch. Jimmy blind tags back in and they hit the Alley-Us, but Sandow breaks up the pinfall. Jey tries to take out Sandow but gets sidestepped. Jimmy kills him with a superkick but Cody lands the Disaster Kick for the win.   5/10 The Scholars win as the reunion brings a W for them. They have challenged the New Age Outlaws for Raw this week so they are (I guess) moving forward with the team again. Well it’s better for them considering they’ve done nothing as singles competitors. Remember when the Usos were primed to be the next big part of the tag division?

The Rock/John Cena from “Old School” Raw and the Triple H challenge to Brock Lesnar from “Old School” Raw are shown. For my full “Old School” review, click here.

Layla vs. Tamina Snuka:   Layla has new blonde straight hair and I’m thinking heel turn for her soon to face Kaitlyn since there are about two “credible” heels in the diva’s division (in the WWE) as of now. Tamina pushes Layla round so she [Layla] shakes her ass. Tamina is not amused and tosses her all around. Layla sneaks in a sunset flip but Tamina blocks and drops a knee to the back of the head. She misses an elbow drops and Layla tries to whip her but it is blocked; Tamina flattens her with a clothesline. She slowly moves forward but gets momentumed to the floor. Back in the ring, Tamina hits a punch and drops more knees. Another odd fitting crowd shot is clipped in as Tamina hammer-tosses Layla in to the corner a trio of times. She slams her and then applies another chinlock; it segues briefly into a Dragon Sleeper but then shifts back to the chinlock. Layla frees herself with a kick to the head and a counter to a backdrop. She hits the Bombshell Kick but it only gets two. Tamina counters LOL in the corner via Cena Roll up into the Samoan drop. Layla reverses the Samoan drop shimming down her back and gets a crucifix-esque pinfall.   2/10 Bad match and the ending was fluke-like. They had a lot of trouble on that finish and it showed too as they almost screwed it up.

The show ends with the formation of the CM Punk/Undertaker match from Raw.

OVERALL 3.5/10   Well we got a tag team squash match and a divas match; not the best show in the world certainly. I’m surprised that they put the Rhodes Scholars on Superstars considering they have a high profile match on Raw this coming week.
