WWE MAIN EVENT 6.26.13

– Miz and Josh Matthews are on commentary tonight.

Chris Jericho vs. Cody Rhodes
We get a stare down to start things off. A couple of stalemate grapples follow suit. Cody hits a shoulder block take down and quickly eats a clothesline followed by a back body drop over the top rope. CHOPS ON THE OUTSIDE~! Cody fights back with an eye rake and begins to work over the eyes of Jericho. Aw sheesh ya’ll. Eye psychology. Jericho gets a schoolboy attempt in and Cody quickly fights back. He clotheslines Jericho and sends him to the outside as we head to break.

-Commercial Break-

Cody has Jericho in a headlock upon return. The announcers mention that Rhodes has been in control throughout the commercial break. They brawl back and forth for a bit. Cody hits a nice moonsault and covers Jericho for TWOOOOOO. That was a splendid moonsault. He should do that more often. Jerucho fights back with some shoulder tackles and an axe handle off the top! Cody makes it to his feet and hits the disaster kick out of nowhere! ONE, TWO, NAH! Jericho hits a crossbody from the top in rebuttal and only gets TWOOOOO~! ALABAMA SLAM BY RHODES! That only gets two! WHAT IS RHODES GONNA HAVE TO DO FOLKS??? Jericho fights back with a nice fisherman suplex with a bridge and only gets two. Bulldog by Jericho followed by the Lionsault. NOBODY HOME! Jericho lands on his feet but eats the Cross Rhodes! KICKOUT! Jericho hits a Codebreaker but is too tired to get an immediate cover. He finally covers him and Cody gets his foot on the bottom rope! Jericho gets rolled up for two! WALLS OF JERICHO! It’s locked in. TAPOUT! Good match. Rhodes proved that he could hang with the best. We got a very competitive back and forth match that made both men appear to be on the same level.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Chris Jericho @ 10:37 aired via submission
RATING: ***

– Ambrose vs. Christian is coming up later. Shit, stacked card!

-Commercial Break-

– Zeb Colter runs down the local sports teams on top of the ramp with Antonio Cesaro. Cesaro looks bad ass in his beret as a side note. Colter says that if you can’t speak, read, or write in English, you don’t belong in America. Cesaro says that he got into America all by himself. He did it the right way. Antonio is living the American dream. With Antonio’s help. we’ll take back America. Hey, I’ll take it. It’s some substance that Cesaro was lacking.

Christian vs. Dean Ambrose
Ambrose rolls out of the ring quickly. Christian follows outside and back into the ring. Ambrose gives him some shoulder thrusts before takes some boots to the money maker. Christian misses a sliding dropkick and Ambrose moves out of the way. Christian hits the floor. Ambrose is in control now. They go back and forth a bit. Christian is about to take control but Rollins takes him down! It’s a Shield beatdown! Here come the Usos! The three faces clear The Shield out of the ring and stand tall. This was too short to mean anything. I bet they’ll have some quality matches down the line though. The angle is fine but with the way they’ve pushed the Shield for nine months, it’s hard for me to take the Usos seriously as a threat.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Christian @ 3:56 via DQ
RATING: *

-Commercial Break-

– We get a recap of the awesome CM Punk/Paul Heyman segment on Raw. That was a good bit of television. I can’t wait to see how it plays out. The guest on Miz TV this Friday is Paul Heyman so we should get some more greatness from him.

-Commercial Break-

The Prime Time Players vs. Tons of Funk
NOOOOOOOO! Another match! This show is far better at hosting two quality matches and some recaps. JoJo accomp[anies the Funkadactyles on the way to the ring. Tensai takes out Darren young on the outside to start things off. Brodus dances. Brodus and Darren are legal but Darren tags in Titus. Big man vs big man shit ensues. SHOULDER BLOCKS APLENTY. Sweet T takes control before getting hit with a huge boot by Titus. In comes Darren. He beats on Tensai a bit before getting double teamed. Aw sheesh, ya’ll. Bad Titus? Nah, bad you. Titus has such an awkward body. He misses a splash in the corner and Tensai can fight back! But he doesn’t~! In comes Brodus. SPLASH TO TITUS IN THE CORNER. Sideslam for two. Young broke that up but Tensai sent him to the outside. Young attacks Brodus from the apron and rolls Tensai up for three. Weak ending. This was not a good match. They really need to ditch the quick and lame third match on Main Event. It does nobody any favors.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Prime Time Players @ 3:56 via pinfall
RATING: 3/4*

OVERALL: Cody and Jericho wrestled a great match, Ambrose and Christian was fine angle advancement, and the tag match was pointless filler. It was a good Main Event but the show would be FAR better if they’d cut the third match that nobody gives a shit about.
