411’s WWF Sunday Night Heat Report 7.16.00

July 16, 2000 | Posted by Ashish

Show opens with the usual pyro. Michael Cole & Kevin
Kelly are your hosts.

The Godfather walks down the aisle with his Ho’s… A
very good assortment of Ho’s this week I might add.
Ouch, some of these girls are so freaking beautiful
that it hurts to JUST WATCH… The Godfather does his
tired mic routine…

Match 1: Godfather vs. Bull Buchanan

First of all, let me point out the irony in this
match… You have The Godfather who has lots of
charisma, yet he has almost zero physical wrestling
talent. Then you have the relatively new, Bull
Buchanan. Bull has a very gifted athletic ability
with some great spots, but the guy has absolutely no
charisma what-so-ever… That being said…

Match Starts off in the usual big man match style,
i.e. Who can knock who down first? Match goes outside
with Bull whipping the Godfather in to the ring pole.
Back inside, Bull performs a double axe-handle to the
head of the Godfather. Godfather gains control after
Bull misses in the corner and crotches himself. The
referee gets caught in the “ho train” splash in the
corner. Tazz comes down and puts the Tazzmission on
the Godfather while the ref is out and Bull follows it
up with a legdrop off the top rope.

The ref apparently saw the Tazz interference, thus
the Godfather gets the win.

The best thing about this match were the Ho’s and
Tazz… not necessarily in that order.

Winner: Godfather via DQ due to the Tazz interference

Edge & Christian decide they are going to try and
manipulate the Dudley Boyz out of using their top two
moves tonight, i.e. the 3-D and tables. I’ve gotta
say, I’m really enjoying how well Edge & Christian
have come into their own. They’re quickly becoming
comedy geniuses.

Rewind of the Week shows HHH taking a sledge hammer
to the head of Jericho… Great Stuff!!!

Out comes the beautiful Perry Saturn. Followed by
the misused Essa Rios.

Match 2: Perry Saturn vs. Essa Rios

Saturn attacks Rios before he even gets all the way
into the ring. Rios quickly reverses it with a
moonsault off the top rope taking Saturn down. Out
comes the “She-Devil” Terry for absolutely no reason
at all… Saturn takes charge once again with a fall
away slam off the second rope. A close-line by Saturn
to follow that up. Essa Rios gets whipped into the
ropes and comes off with a reverse spin kick to change
the tide. Rios then goes off in to an aerial assault
and multiple pin attempts which Saturn easily gets out
of each time. Rios gets caught with a superkick after
missing another moonsault and landing on his feet.
Saturn finishes him off with a Randy Savage like elbow
from the top rope… Decent match

Winner: Perry Saturn

We cut to footage of Mick Foley’s journey across
Asia. Mick definitely seems to be enjoying himself on
this paid vacation… I mean promotional tour. The
Commissioner is expected tomorrow night on RAW where
he has a number of issues that he plans on addressing.

They recap what has happened thus far between the
Undertaker and Kurt Angle.

Kaientai gets verbally confused backstage by some
complete moron who is working on the behalf of D’Lo
Brown & Chaz a.k.a. Black & Decker

Commercial

Plug for WWF New York.

Out comes D’Lo & Chaz in their matching attire to
almost zero response from the crowd. And their
opponents tonight are Kaientai…

Match 3: Kaientai vs. D’Lo Brown & Chaz a.k.a. “Black
& Decker”

Kaientai try to take control early, but to no avail.
Some good team work by Black & Decker. Kevin Kelly
makes a reference comparing D’Lo & Chaz to the New Age
Outlaws. He believe that these two are destined for
good things. Interesting, I’ve heard the same thing
from Jim Ross. I’ll believe it when I see it…

Kaientai briefly take control with some creative
offense maneuvers. D’Lo gets tagged in and totally
takes over. A double power-bomb …A superplex and
low-down in sequence is used as the finishing maneuver
to put Kaientai down for the 1-2-3.

Winners: Black & Decker (They looked pretty good
together, but I wouldn’t call them the next New Age
Outlaws… at least not just yet…)

Christian tries to convince Buh Buh Ray not to put
HIM through a table, to which Buh Buh agrees. It’s
obvious though that Buh Buh is just being sarcastic to
the very out there, Christian. Good comedy skit.

Match 4: Bradshaw vs. Gangrel

Bradshaw starts off with sledgehammer blows on
Gangrel. A vicious belly-to-back suplex folds up
Gangrel like an accordion, if I may steal that old
saying. Gangrel recovers and VERY briefly takes over,
but gets caught in a nice fall-away slam by Bradshaw.
A couple seconds later, Bradshaw hits the Close-line
From Hell, and that’s all she wrote.

Winner: Bradshaw in a total squash match… Whatta
waste of good talent!

Edge tells D-Von that they shouldn’t use the 3-D on
HIM, cause it would be too violent. D-Von
sarcastically agrees with him. Edge was absolutely
hilarious how he copied some of the Dudley Boyz catch
phrases… Of course, he did it with his new air-head
mentality, which made it all the better.

Commercial

We come back to Michael Cole and Kevin Kelly
discussing the situation between the Rock and Chris
Benoit. We cut to footage encapsulating the history
between these two leading up to the PPV. The WWF
production team does a good job putting this piece
together. For the first time, I kinda care about this
feud. Good stuff!

The Dudley Boyz compare notes and decide to put Edge
through the table and give Christian the 3-D… Get
it? They aren’t as dumb as they pretend to be, I
guess.

Match 5: Edge & Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz

The Duds get a very nice ovation from the capacity
crowd. The match starts off with Christian and D-Von.
Some quick feeling out and D-Von tags in Buh Buh Ray.
Buh Buh whips Christian in to the corner and rushes
him, but Christian moves and tags Edge. Some quick
offense from Buh Buh and then he sets up Christian for
D-Von’s crotch headbutt off the top rope. The Duds
bring out their table, which in-turn brings out the
“Censor” Steven Richards to a chorus of boo’s and he
takes the table away from ringside.

Some basic back and forth action takes place. Buh
Buh than hits the 3-D by himself out of nowhere on
Edge, but he kicks out. Buh Buh sets up Edge in the
old Road Warriors “Dooms Day Device” and D-Von
deliveries the close-line knocking Edge off of Buh Buh
Rays shoulders, but Christian makes the save before
the 3 count.

After some outside action, Edge and Buh Buh both go
back inside the ring and Edge clips Buh Buh in the
corner and puts his feet on the ropes for the win.
Once the match was finished Christian gets the 3-D and
Edge gets put through a table to a decent pop.

A fairly good show. Nothing special, but a strong
effort by everybody involved making this better than
anything WCW is putting out these days.
