Diva’s Champion: AJ Lee
WWE World Tag Team Champions: Cody Rhodes and Goldust.

WWE Smackdown Report 11.22.13

Tag Team Championship: Goldust and Cody Rhodes vs. The Real Americans (w/ Zeb Colter)
Goldust and Swagger start us off. Goldust stalls for a minute with his sexy mind games before hitting his patented uppercut off of an Irish whip. The faces quick tag and deliver some crowd pleasing manuevers on Swags. Cesaro finds himself in the ring next, on the receiving end of an ax handle from Cody. Cody Rhodes eats a big boot from the apron to the floor before commercial break.

-Commercial Break-

It doesn’t take long for the four men to exchange impact moves. All four men go at it for a moment. Cesaro counters an Alabama Slam and Cody charges. Cesaro tosses him up and hits him with the elbow.Cody goes for a desperation moonsault, no peeking HBK style, and takes out Cesaro. Double hot tag. Goldust clotheslines the hell out of Swagger before planting him with a spinebuster. Goldust makes his opponents wait bent over with his stupid breathing taunt for way too long. It totally stops the flow. Goldust hits the ten count punches and a powerslam. The heels are outside and Cody gets back dropped by Goldust onto the heels for the crossbody. Goldust climbs to the top to try the same thing but Swagger pulls him off and hits a nice facebuster into a patriot lock combo very seamlessly. Goldust crawls for the ropes as the crowd buzzes. Cody breaks it up with a disaster kick. Cesaro gets in there and gives Cody THE BIGGEST SWING!??? Holy shit, I’ve never seen anybody take it like Cody just did. Goldust clotheslines Cesaro to the outside. Swagger gets back into the mix of things and gets hit with Goldust’s finish! It’s all over.

Nonstop action from start to finish. They made the entire match seem like an extended go home sequence. It was far from a spot fest though. This was a very well worked match that was rewarding to watch and a perfect opener to any show. Legnthy, logical, and well wrestled build to Survivor Series. I’ll take it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Goldust and Cody Rhodes @ 9:00 aired pinfall
RATING: ***1/2

– Ryback is in the ring. He says that he’s been a bully all of his life. He enjoys being a bully and pushing people around. Most inconsistent character 2013. He makes an open challenge. My fears unfold and my tears pour sevenfold. The Great Khali heads down the ramp

Ryback vs. The Great Khali
Khali chops. Guess what he’s going to do next? If you guessed “chop more” you win nothing but you were right. He no sells Ryback strikes and they battle on the outside. Khali gets in the ring and guess what happens next? Ryback hyper extends his arm over the top rope. It’s literally the only transition Khali has in his arsenal. Khali fights back with a big boot and hits his overhand chop. 1… 2… Ryback gets hit hand on the bottom rope. Ryback ducks a clothesline and hits the meathook out of nowhere. He should have just done that to start the match. He goes for Shellshock. He hits it. Done.

Again, this is the same Great Khali match with a different wrestler. I don’t understand how anybody continues to defend his performances unless they’re only watching on a casual basis. “Chop, chop, no-sell, chop, outside brawl, limb hyper-extension, limb work, finish soon thereafter.” Change it up, agents

OFFICIAL RESULT: Ryback @ 3:00 via submission
RATING: 1/2*

– Vickie catches up with AJ and Tamina. Vickie plays face here and reveals that AJ is medically cleared to compete. She’s going 1v2 against the Funkadactyls.

-Commercial Break-

AJ Lee vs. The Funkadactyls
AJ runs away and the Dactyl’s trap her and spank her. AJ runs and hides behind Tamina and the Funkadactyls push her to the mat. Tamina takes out Cameron and Naomi is distracted by it. AJ hits a neckbreaker goes to work. Cameron fights of Tamina on the outside. AJ kicks Cameron off the apron. AJ gets hit with the rear view and eats the pinfall.

Why did Tamina get to physically involve herself with no ramifications? Why is the rear view an actual finishing move? This match was bad build to the divas tag at best. Nothing too sloppy in the ring but crisp wrestling can’t overcome bad booking in a short match.

OFFICIAL RESULT: The Funkadactyls @ 2:30 via pinfall
RATING: 1/4*

-Commercial Break-

The Usos and Rey Mysterio vs. The Shield
Dean Ambrose starts things off with an Uso. Uso verification in progress. Uso delivers some jabs and a clothesline and tags in JEY Uso. Making the first uso Jimmy by proxy. Seth Rollins comes in and goes down after a right hand. The Usos clean house and hit their double running planchas to The Shield on the outside. Rollins tags in and goes for Jey. He covers for two.

-Commercial Break-

Rollins is in control and tearing Jimmy’s shit up as we return from break. In comes Ambrose with a headlock and some stomping. Next in is Reigns with some knee drops and elbow strikes. Rollins back in now. He talks shit in his awful grating voice and proceeds to miss a running body splash. Jey can’t make the tag and Reigns cuts him off. Reigns whips Jey into the corner and goes for a running shoulder throst. IN COMES MYSTERIO AND ROLLINS~! YAAAAAAAAAAA. Mysterio hits his shit in quick in fashion, such as a senton and a sloppy DDT. Reigns clears The Usos out by hitting them both with spears. He goes for a powerbomb on Rey, but Rey wrestles lucha and according to the rules he ranas Reigns to the mat. Everybody flies everywhere as the match breaks down. Ambrose ends up being the legal man against Mysterio. He interrupts a 619 attempt on Rollins but ends up getting hit with his own. Mysterio “drops the dime” and gets the win. Oh yeah, and Rollins dove to the outside on both of the Usos somewhere in that finishing sequence as well.

Another good tag team match! This division is on absolute fire right now. Much like the first match, it was fun from start to finish. The Shield’s closing sequences with all six men exchanging big moves until there’s two men left kind of feel a bit predictable at this point and could use a little shaking up. Also, there were a couple of slow spots in the middle that I didn’t mind but make the opener a bit better in my opinion.

OFFICIAL RESULT The Usos and Rey Mysterio @ 10:05 via pinfall
RATING: ***1/4

-Commercial Break-

– Big Show comes down to the ring and says he came back to mess with the authority, not for the money. He continues on about himself until Orton interrupts. Big Show shows him footage of Randy Orton butting heads with Triple H and taking advantage of his relationship with the McMahons on Raw a few times. Big Show says that Orton should have been the face of the WWE years ago. Orton only does what’s good for Orton however. Now Orton’s all alone. Orton throws a hissy fit and Big Show shows us a video package, that I’m sure he made in final cut and brought in to production, of him beating up Orton.

– R-Truth introduces his cousin, Delicious Pretty Ricky, who shills some WWE Shop merch. He has bad teeth and an accent. Ditch Pretty Ricky and bring back Pancake, dammit. Feud em maybe.

-Commercial Break-

Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston vs. Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow
Wow, Dolph Ziggler’s entire demeanor as Big E’s sidekick is surprising at the very least. It’s almost as if he’s being overly bubbly out of frustration. The heels quick tag and put the work in on Dolph. Hey, remember all of the people who said Sandow was still a made man after his Cena match on Raw? You guys still around? Ziggler plants Axel with a DDT to turn the tide. Chili from TLC is in the crowd. Woot. Big E comes in and cleans house. Clotheslines and huge body tackles knocks the heels down. He hits a running splash onto the back of Sandow. He lifts up Sandow for the Big Finish. Axel interrupts but eats a Fameasser. Big E delivers the Big Ending on his second attempt for the win.

This was only there to make Big E look like a star and showcase his moveset. Dolph playing happy go lucky friend standing in the shadows of Big E’s spotlight was bizarre. Besides Big E, the other three men have all been jerked around the card with little success. Here’s to hoping Big E can break the ceiling they couldn’t.

OFFICIAL RESULT Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston @ 2:30 via pinfall
RATING: N/R

-Commercial Break-

– Renee Young catches up with Alberto Del Rio backstage. She shoots us back to a few clips of their rivalry. ADR says he games are over. On Sunday, Cena’s tapping out. ADR is going to take back what is his: The World Hemmyweigh Title.

Daniel Bryan vs. Luke Harper (w/ Wyatt & Rowan)
They lockup to start and Harper comes out on top with clubbing blows. Bryan goes for the submission attempt right away and Harper rolls to the outside for greener pastures. We cut to break at fifty seconds.

Harper is pummeling Bryan as we return from break. Harper whips him into the steel steps and they find themselves back inside. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH. For being such an oddity, Harper sure does understand how to work the hard camera. YEAHHHHHHHHH. Harper beats down Bryan and Bryan gets back into it! Drop toehold on Harper! Bryan charges at him but gets caught with Emerald Fusion for two. Bryan gets going with his comeback schtik. Kick time? The last kick found Bryan in a sit out powerbomb! Harper delivers a couple of kicks to the head of D-Bry and follows up with a gator roll into the side headlock. Harper works that angle for a bit until Bryan shoves him under the bottom rope to the floor. Bryan dives to the outside and finds himself in control Bray distravts him from the ramp and Harper recovers and attacks. Punk’s music hits and he gets on top of the ramp. Bryan rolls up a distracted Harper.

OFFICIAL RESULT Daniel Bryan @ 6:30 aired via pinfall
RATING: **3/4

– The Wyatt Family beats down Daniel Bryan and CM Punk after the match.

OVERALL: The tag team matches were both very good, as was the main event. So at least they delivered on the action they hyped beforehand. The trend continues for the tag team scene to carry the show work-rate wise. Our world title matches were both inoffensively promoted with okay segments. These things happen on go home shows. Bad stuff like another Khali formula match really have no place. Seeing Sandow, Ziggler, and Axel all floundering like this as Big E gets hyped to the moon in the same maatch is somewhat bittersweet and somewhat telling of how cyclical things can be. I love Big E too, so don’t get it wrong. It’s just a little disheartening to see three pet projects doing zilch before Survivor Series like that. All in all though, It was a good go home show. Check out the tag matches!
